I'm looking for a 7" tablet I can house in a custom box which will control some hardware over bluetooth/WiFi. I hear about Chinese supplies and if I can find one which meets these needs I will be interested. Ideally, I'd like on which
- Is reliable
- Is Flashable with AOSP Android 5+
- Boots up when power is applied
- Allows the boot up logo to be customised
Generally, if I got one of the many I see on eBay/Alibaba as a test, is it easy to install a custom ROM from a general process or are they all different? Does anyone have experience of using a specific model I can try please?

Hello,
I hope I am in good part of the forum - I have a question to Android geeks -> I have an idea on the project (which in case of WinCE based navi units is explored - but not in Android based ones) - to put an Android based tabled with GPS or GPS navigation unit as a navi unit in my VW RCD510 device... My first question is -> is there a possibility to connect external screen with touch-screen which will be different resolution than the native one on the Android based unit... In particular - the RCD510 unit has a screen resolution (with touch) of: 400x240 pix (6,5") screen...
Is there a possibility to connect that to the tablet or navi unit with Android and to use that screen to controll (completely) the unit??
The main screen of the unit may be not used - it does not make me difference - I only ask about such thing, as I am not really good in Android...
Just one more thing - I do not think about "on-the-go" - it may be some dismounting etc stuff - just to make it work (if possible at all)...
I will appreciate your help...

Your asking a question, so use the damn Q&A forum. Or read this
I am trying to learn from Android source on Data-Wifi automatic switch, and I am kind of stuck in the source. (And too bad new user cannot post in development forum..)
The closest I can get is DataCommand and WifiCommand, they seem to switch network preference (through ConnectivityManager), by which I suppose can switch active interface. But I cannot find where these commands are actually used.

Can any one has experience in Android framework point for me where to look at?
Hi,
I have this tablet laying around, and was planning to build a head unit with it.
Few questions I have:
- 4 channel audio (I know I can use usb audio card... but that does not really mirror 2 channels to other 2 channels - suppose a 5.1 card) control pan/balance
- create custom task bar to switch between apps and do AC control etc... with fixed task bar
I have done some Android programming, but I think these 2 requests can't be done with app only...and probably need core change, right?
I know lot of Chinese ROM for Headunits have it... so not sure the complexity of building a custom ROM
Thanks
Nuno
I would love to see a wiring diagram and features list for this. It does not even sound like you need android. Wouldn't Linux be a better choice?
Well, I want to run some apps existing in Android format only, like maps, torque pro, waze, or even do a android auto.
Hello everyone, first of all the reason why I opened this thread is because I want to know what preparations need to be made before the firmware upgrade/flashing of the android head unit?
Based on my understanding, generally you must first understand the relative brand and relative modal before flashing the Android phone, and find the appropriate firmware for the corresponding hardware to flash the machine. But unlike Android phones, there are many brands of car radio players and the system information displayed in System> About is not detailed.
I changed my car's car player from accessories shop half a year ago, but the functions inside are slightly simpler and have some bugs (you can't play Messanger's voice message while playing YouTube after connecting to Bluetooth). I thought that maybe I could flash this into a new android version.
Therefore, I list the following questions and hope that everyone can answer my questions:
1. Can most car players flash? (For example, the ADAMS I am using)
2. How can I get more information about my Car player? Hardware information and more.
3. How to find suitable firnware? Based on MCU version?
4. How to check if your device is 1 + 16gb / 2 + 32gb? There is no information displayed in System> About.
5. Different brands have different ways to enter recovery. How do I start?
The following is the information of my ADAMS car player, I hope you guys can give me some opinions. Thanks in advance for your help
Hello,
I am developing a Kiosk App for a client.
I need devices with the following requirements:
is currently being produced (because I need to buy up to 500 devices)
low price (under 200€ would be great)
camera should work decently under dark conditions
bootloader should be unlockable
screen size minimum 6’’
My dream device would have a custom ROM, just running my kiosk app, maybe some essential system apps. I would tweak the bootscreen and the power-button menu. In the end, the device should feel less “mobile phone-ish”.
I tested the Umidigi A9, which works, but is quite slow.
Maybe there are other possibilities. What would be your device recommendations?
Thanks in advance
