Hi,
I have this tablet laying around, and was planning to build a head unit with it.
Few questions I have:
- 4 channel audio (I know I can use usb audio card... but that does not really mirror 2 channels to other 2 channels - suppose a 5.1 card) control pan/balance
- create custom task bar to switch between apps and do AC control etc... with fixed task bar
I have done some Android programming, but I think these 2 requests can't be done with app only...and probably need core change, right?
I know lot of Chinese ROM for Headunits have it... so not sure the complexity of building a custom ROM
Thanks
Nuno
I would love to see a wiring diagram and features list for this. It does not even sound like you need android. Wouldn't Linux be a better choice?
Well, I want to run some apps existing in Android format only, like maps, torque pro, waze, or even do a android auto.

So a gripe I've been having with stock android and AOSP based roms such as CM is that when I use my bluetooth to play music through an external device, that I could never get the device to display track names etc. This has always worked on bloated firmwares, i.e. touchwiz, sense etc.
I've done some research into this, and it turns out the problem is that stock android does not support the AVRCP bluetooth profile past version 1, which is YEARS out of date, the current version is 1.4 and supports display of album art on external bluetooth devices, as well as track and playlist information. This being left out is just lazy on google's part, especially considering google now operates a music store.
A fix for this was merged in CM10, but other AOSP bluetooth updates break that fix, so requires a huge amount of work for CM dev's to keep up with bluetooth profile patches. I do not think this is up to the CM devs to include.
So why am I writing this here?
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5450
this is the issue raised, with 1111 stars next to it so far. I think this should be closer to the #1 issue, this should be highlighted to google to show that people actually want this. If you agree, please, add a star to the issue tracker, and share to others that you might think would care.
Hi,
Do you have any news about this?
Im trying to display the cover art on my car by AVRCP but isn't possible.
Many thanks
Android 4.4.2 Kitkat has support for AVRCP 1.3 but still its old. We need AVRCP 1.4 or 1.5 support so that we can browse the music collection over bluetooth. Please star the issue (link provided in the first post) so that android team would prioritize this requirement.
In looking at all these AndroidTV devices I noticed that they all are missing key features that I am looking for...
Maybe if they are seeking info for future devices they may look here for what I would consider theoretical perfection:
Buildprop that allows almost all apps to be installed from the market (maybe some Samsung device as a "buildprop" I think I have heard it referenced as...) This shouldn't be an issue as they don't care about counterfeiting, nor copywrites?
Netflix installable and functioning, without a garbled stream
Camera 2.0MP MINIMUM
Dual to Quad Core
1GB RAM and 8GB flash minimum
IR remote that functions well, and the OS keeps up with every controller button press (unlike FiosDVR or DirecTV's Genie, and MiniClients that LAG BAD)
RJ45 10/100/10000 AND 802.11N [MiMo also?] (not just 10/100 or not just A/B/G WiFi)
Top of TV mountable, or TV stand/desktop-ish sitting with rubber feet to prevent sliding
Pre-rooted, just install "*su" from market?
Just trying to get the word out, if they in fact paroose this forum.
If anyone knows of a device that is up to MY specs above, let me know, I can't find one on eBay (but before posting one check the specs again, as most do not have 90% of what I listed above)...
I've been waiting for a year too, now the cpu speed and memory look promising..
Top of my list is this combo (device+hub/stand), no gigabit tho.

need reviews and developer support
edit:
I just bought the cx-919 ($80/geekbuying.com) for a few reasons
1) good wifi reception
2) 4.2 ROM coming soon
3) Finless, an admin at Freaklabs bought one
4) its very similiar to the MK908

Hello, I have had a look around and so far no real clear answer but a about 6 months ago I had installed in my car a Yessun brand (chinese) 7" headunit. All works reasonably well however it lags so much I will select a song and it will take sometimes about 5 or 6 seconds to select and play. Additionally when playing music from my phone (spotify or the device itself) the metadata doesn't show on the head unit. My question is, is there a way the software (and/or firmware if it meant I can have the bluetooth metadata shared on the head unit) can be updated? Not necessarily by me as I am useless at that stuff but I'd be happy to approach a professional if there was a way this could be done. I just wouldn't even know where to begin to ask or look for someone so the online community is my only choice - thanks in advance
Some info from the website about the head unit:
Operating system - WINCE6.0
Frequency - Cortex-A7
Main chip model - MSB2531
Memory - DDR3-128MHZ
Storage Space - NAND FLASH SLC 256MHZ
SD interface support protocol - SD Memory Card Spec(ver2.0)/MMC Memory card Spec(4.3) Compatible
Navigation software storage - SD card (it has iGO instsalled)
Type of software compilation - ARMV4I / Interface parameter
Communication interface - I2C/SPI/UART/SD
Audio interface - Analog stereo input \ output
Other interface - Common IO/AD/PWM
Do you mean that you wanna to update the WinCE 6.0 or something else?
As far as I know, the latest version for WinCE is Ver. 6.1, which I don't think will lead to a performance improvement for your device.
So, maybe we should seek some approach else.
Hello everyone, first of all the reason why I opened this thread is because I want to know what preparations need to be made before the firmware upgrade/flashing of the android head unit?
Based on my understanding, generally you must first understand the relative brand and relative modal before flashing the Android phone, and find the appropriate firmware for the corresponding hardware to flash the machine. But unlike Android phones, there are many brands of car radio players and the system information displayed in System> About is not detailed.
I changed my car's car player from accessories shop half a year ago, but the functions inside are slightly simpler and have some bugs (you can't play Messanger's voice message while playing YouTube after connecting to Bluetooth). I thought that maybe I could flash this into a new android version.
Therefore, I list the following questions and hope that everyone can answer my questions:
1. Can most car players flash? (For example, the ADAMS I am using)
2. How can I get more information about my Car player? Hardware information and more.
3. How to find suitable firnware? Based on MCU version?
4. How to check if your device is 1 + 16gb / 2 + 32gb? There is no information displayed in System> About.
5. Different brands have different ways to enter recovery. How do I start?
The following is the information of my ADAMS car player, I hope you guys can give me some opinions. Thanks in advance for your help
