Question Android auto looks different. Is it normal? - FYT Android Head Units

The android auto is different. I cant use maps and music at the same window. I attached a video to show you how it looks. No Split-Screen design for some reason. Maybe its related to android 10?
my questions are:
1. How can I make android auto to work regular? As I see in the pictures in the play store?
2. How can I force android auto to work on full screen mode?
3. Is there an update to android 11/12/13 for my machine? Im running android 10. Moreover, I can not find the check for updates options
any ideas? also attached the version of the machine
thanks

1) Android Auto currently does not support split-screen, only at very few top-market builtin AA screens. So certainly not on these units using a reverse-engineered CarLink apk. Android Auto is kept simple to keep it as safe as possible.
2) You can't. Android auto copies your screen to the head unit (or car builtin in screen). It will be more or less your phone screen. That works nicely on a normal 8" - 13.3" landscape unit, but not on a Tesla style vertical screen. (And why use AA??? You have such a nice screen on a fully functional Android unit)
3) There is no Android 11/12/13 for your unit. If you see Android 11/12/13 units for the FYT7862, then they are fakes.
Please first read post # of this thread. Based on your question 3) you did not much reading yet. That is what this forum is for. Learning, not only asking.
Last summer Google announced that they are working on a new AA, together with Google Assistant, for many type of screens (as more cars get Tesla style screens) and for split-screen. I have no idea when that gets released and whether the FYT CarLink.apk will support it.

As far as I know: not yet.
As far as I know that is currently only available on a very selected set of built-in car units that support AA.
For my work I also regularly drive rental cars and all cars do have AA builtin (as they are never older than 1 year), but none so far with split-screen.
And please don't use webp images. The forum can't show them so I first need to download them. I don't want that.

When I hear music via Bluetooth, it works when I only enter a specific screen . Is there a way to make it work when I leave the specific screen or application?

Via AA, or directly and only connected via Bluetooth?
If you simply have your phone connected and play music on your unit in the Music Player via BT, it should simply work.
For AA via CarLink I don't know. On my unit I never, ever use AA: what a waste of such an expensive unit with such great funtionality to use it as an AA unit. There are special AA /CarPlay Android units below 100 euros for sale on Amazon and AliExpress, and these do it wirelessly as well.
I only use AA in rental cars.

UP

The App on the head unit is a hacked app written by the Chinese so they do not have to pay any royalties/licencing fees. Android Auto is written only for supported Head Units using unhacked software where the maker pays the correct fee.
So every change on the Official Android Auto app does not consider what effect it has on a hacked app, so if it stops working you are reliant on the Chinese hackers fixing the hacked app. Hence no reply to your request and why I do not use Android Auto on these units.

[developer needed] Android device as bluetooth headset for phone

Well here is what’s needed by me and by general demand that I noticed:
We need an application that will enable an android device (a tablet for instance) to act as a Bluetooth headset and dialer for another phone
I have searched through the forums but with no luck, all that I found where similar questions but unanswered!

So to sum it up I think we need a developer that can help us out also am willing to pay for it or buy it of the market if that’s what it takes
Cheers & thanks in advance
(PS: if this is not the proper place for something like this, please excuse the noob and redirect me to the proper thread)
Please guys. I'am looking to and is also willing to pay for it.
I'm also willing to pay for the application. Please someone help us?

this should be a default feature for android...
I have been asking for the same thing, Moscow Desire is looking into it with LeeDroid to try and implement something by porting it from a phone I think...I'm waiting on pins and needles.
The thread on it is here, the last couple pages:

It's not what we're looking for.
In the thread they are trying to get bluetooth headsets to work on a tablet.
We are looking for an app that can get a tablet to connect to a phone and make calls.
For example, I have my tablet built into my car and connectet to my car radio via cable. It would be nice if it could make and receive calls.

Hi! I have been searching for the same solution from months but the onle thing i have found is,
"dealextreme.com/p/minipad-a9-1-lcd-bluetooth-dialer-headset-white-94840"
so untill any developer work on true bluetooth applitacation which can fulfill our needs this is the only thing we can use.
I started a thread on this then discovered that it's been asked plenty of times before. After doing research I have discovered the following things:
1) It is possible to replace the Bluetooth stack on Android
2) We would have to make Android play the role of the hands free and not an audio gateway
3) This has been implemented - http://www.parrot.com/usa/products/bluetooth-hands-free-car-kits/parrot-asteroid
4) The stack on Android is BlueZ
5) The devs at Cyanogen mod have been working with the Android Bluetooth stack
From what I can see, we would have to modify the Hands-Free Profile in the Bluez stack to play the hands-free role. If we could somehow load in another profile or edit the existing one, that might do the trick. I'm not too familiar with Bluetooth, but I will be going over code tonight to see if I can come up with an idea.
touchpad webos has this capibility
I have a hp touchpad with cynogenmod 9 that dual boots to webos. In webos, i can link via bluetooth to my blackberry phone. I can call and receive via a dialer app in webos. I have not been able to figure out how to do this on the android boot. I can pair the device but haven't figured out how to do in android. Hoping since wedos went open there might be an app for android to mirror the webos capibility.
I've posted support for this development in a number of forums and in other threads here at XDA. This would be a huge deal for the 'android-as-car-stereo' idea. There are a number of suppliers that make USB-->DAC-->RCA(composite) converters, and that takes the shoddy internal DAC out of the equation for most tablets. All that is left is the need for bluetooth call transfers to the tablet.

its to connect between tablet and android phone hopefully this might lead somewhere!!
I have a Bluetooth transmitter (B-Speech RTX1) attached to my AV-receiver and want to use my phone with headphones as a speaker system. There has to be an app that plays the stream once we can connect a transmitter via HFP profile with the phone I guess...
I don't know if my wish is related to this thread, but there is a thread explaining how to enable HFP in Android by editing the "audio.conf".
I get the new options but am not able to connect the transmitter to my phone. I guess I will have to buy BT-headphones...
I too am looking for this service to be done (using my tablet in my dash of my car connected to my amp's/speakers). Another post for this can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844605
I just tried the method posted in the link above by hudl.. but it didn't work. My tablet still pairs with my phone like before, no way to connect them, nor the "use for phone audio" option from my phone to the tablet. :-( Still no solution as of yet.
I think this might work for ya
I haven't tried it yet, but am downloading it now. After much searching I think this is what we've been looking for.

???
I'd love to see this and would happily pay towards development of this. Parrot Asteroid seems to handle incoming HFP, HSP and A2DP profiles very well. I too have modified the audio.conf file and can also see the additional options.. My phone just doesn't know what to do with it!
Is there anyone who can point this thread in the right direction? It's the only piece of the puzzle left for android carpc tablet goodness.
Thanks,
MrNorm
Just reviving interest in this thread again as tablets in cars are becoming more and more common.
Checking if any developer is still willing to help out, I am sure there are plenty of willing users waiting with their wallets ready
Cheers
Mario
Parrot did it for sure. It would be an awesome feature. I wish things just worked like that by default... someone needs to re-invent a BT-like connection where everything on a device is exposed... a phone should be a BT keyboard/mouse/airmouse/headset/speaker/monitor/camera/drive/sdreader/modem/gps/serial-console/etc as well as being on the opposite end of each of those things. And without needing a separate app for each of those things that is even possible/created.

If we could use Samsungs work in this player we could easily implement it.

[Q] Custom IR - Infrared apps (Similar to PEEL Remote Control)

Hello,
Just bough myself the amazing Galaxy Note 10, and it has "Peel Smart Remote" built-in app.
This app works fine with a lot of TV brands, but I believe it could be even better.
Are there any other apps that can control that IR emitter as well?
I want to be able to control my cable TV decoder, as well as other devices in my house, that are NOT available on peel.
As I'm trying to learn android dev (very beginning yet), I would love to know how to write my own app, so I could try to write something useful.
However, there are NO DOCS AT ALL about it! Not on Android SDK, not on Samsung SDK. No API related, absolutely nothing.
Looking at Samsung developer forums, their oficial position about the subject is that "there is no information about it, that's all we known".
Well, if "Peel Smart Remote" app is able to control that infrared chip, it MUST have a way for us (developers) to do the same!
Can anyone tell me/us how to start?
I don't know, maybe a little reverse engineering in peel's source code to find out how peel works, and reproduce it!
I believe I'm not the only one that is looking for some different uses for the IR Led Emitter on the Galaxy Note 10, so let's try to figure out something!
Thanks!

Hummmm now that was weird...
I just downloaded that touchsquid demo, and they have A LOT of limitation on the demo version: "you cannot try the samsung TV in this demo version". Also, you can't download it from market/play, you download the INSTALLER from play, and have to allow "allow other source" to install it.
I mean, if peel is obscure, touchsquid is even more!
What are they afraid of?
nope!
Demo mode has limited function because of license...send me a pm arr arr!
You install the .apk from market, And then You install the help And settings apk. These two are separat. No Idea why.
The developers of touchsquid are extremely responsive, I paid the £11 for the Samsung tablet version, it nicely controls my UK sky+, Samsung tv and hdmi switcher "straight out of the box" and after a couple of email exchanges my Phillips DVD system, they responded to emails the same day and in both cases updated their device database with correct ir codes within 1 to 2 days. Bearing in mind how poor Peel its for non American users, this it's the only alternative at present, it's a bit of a niche due to the general lack of devices with an ir emitter so any attempts of the developer community to make one would be keenly anticipated

I wish Logitech would get in on this. I LOVE my harmony one remote, and would happily pay for an app that would let me do the same with my tab, even if it is a spendy app.

That's strange - stupid Logitech! I found that the best IR software for Android is the one that comes with the Sony Tablets. It has a great database of existing devices, but it also allows the IR blaster to learn commands from existing controls (ie I have an infra-red controlled light switch which it works with).
I imagine if there is an API for the IR Blaster someone could program such features in.....it's frustrating that Peel doesn't work with Sky though. I might try the suggestion above myself.

Just sent. License from who? Samsung? I mean.. Do we need to have a licensed remote control to work with Samsung (or other) devices?
Or is the license about using their trademark?
I mean, (if we got that API), can't we develop apps to control Samsung (and other) devices?
Can't we share them for free on Google Play? I can't think a way that this would cause financial losses for them!

Actually, Galaxy Tab/Note only have IR Emitter.
It doesn't have a receiver, that's why we can't have a "IR Code Learning" with our Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note.
Are there any developers here who can help me disassembly existing APKs, and try to find out how to control that IR chip?
I never worked with Java before, only learned to disassembly compiled C/C++ applications...

As said before it's merely a blaster - not a receiver. Touchsquid is great but sadly the ui is seriously lacking polish!!
Yeah, yeah, I get that the Note 10.1 does not have a IR receiver. If you read the quote I list, a poster claims to have a switch that allows the sony app to learn. Hence, I asked for a link to the app and the switch.

No he doesn't - because that was me who said that. In fact, what I said was there is on the Sony S Tablet, the program is capable of learning commands BECAUSE the Sony has an IR receiver built in. Which doesn't help us because the Note 10.1 doesn't (which I have found out since making that post). I never said it would work on the 10.1!

Well the Note hasnt a dedicated IR receiver, but maybe the camera could just do the same job. You can see the IR diode of any remote flashing if you point at the camera whilst using the cam app. Anyway there are already tons of IR codes available on the web, all we need is an app which is way more customable than the Peel app.

What is really a "IR Code"?
Is that about the frequency of IR Led Blinking?
For example, on PEEL you have to choose your device, than you can customize key codes.
Example: My LG TV: Vol-up=326, Vol-down=327.
Peel doesn't support it, but let's say it DOES, and I choose "Samsung TV", but customize the Vol-Down code to "326".
Will it work on my LG TV? Or are there any other variables that intereferes on it?
I mean, if the only variable is that "code", than we could make a "Brute force" trying codes from 1 to 6556, and pause it when something happens to our TV or any other device, is that right?
About the camera working as a IR Receptor, that really would makes sense IF camera could take enough fps to decode the frequency.
That's something to investigate.
Are the programmers in "Android Development" aware of this thread? Someone with a little more technical information could add more to this thread (I can't post there, unfortunally).
Here's a good explaination of codes: ww w. hifi-remote.c om/infrared/IR-PWM.shtm l.
Some raw LG codes are here: files.remotecentral.c om/library/3-1/lg/2008_television/index.ht ml.
For the moment i have no idea how the 'code' number in the Peel remote is linked to the raw code. Illhave a look there tomorrow
Does anyboda have new informations regarding a infrared remote APP?
It would be great if I could remote control my LED Stripes with the Galaxy Note 10.1. There are some similar apps like IRDroid but all are using an external device.
Would it be possible to use the integrated infrared interface in android APP?
I copied the following response from Samsung's developer forum. Samsung will not release the API for the IR blaster on Galaxy Tab 2 series.

Here is another forum post, I noticed that the username of the last response is "TouchSquid". They must have either talked to someone higher up at Samsung or figured it out on their own since they now offer an app.

This lack of an SDK is both bizarre and confusing. Both of the available apps - Peel and Touchsquid - are useless for different reasons. If you could combine them both then they might add up to a useful app but separately they're useless. I've tried and uninstalled both.
The thing that's really needed is someting I've been after for a long time and I'm surprised no-one has yet thought of it - a combined IP Remote. All the Hifi and electronics manaufacturers have their own apps and SDKs to control their equipment over wifi and each one needs to be installed separately. Imagine a single interface that could talk to all of the various IP controls. You wouldn't need an IR port then, just a set of IP controllable equipment.
It could be extended to incorporate things like Mediaportal or XBMC, WDTV live, AppleTV? - basically anything with a web based interface and an SDK. Build it so that each remote is added as a plugin and it can be expanded as each new device comes along. It would be the ultimate Home Cinema remote!
Someone get on it!

Android Custom/Bigger Mouse Cursor - no root required

I made some research on how to display a cursor on Android. As a result of that, and thanks for popular request, I finally developed a freeware Android app, for Android OS 4.0 or newer that lets you choose a customized, bigger size cursor. It can be used both with OTG Cable/USB Mouses and with Bluetooth mouses. Those interested can find it on Google play, search for BigMouse. The good news is it doesn't need root! So it's just a user-level app that does all the job easy.
It's a bit of a hack - I am using a clever mechanism to detect the original mouse location, and draw the bigger overlay cursor image on top of that location.
Link to original article / research work here: http://www.pocketmagic.net/2012/07/android-overlay-cursor/ (if not ok with site rules, please remove the link, but leave the rest, as it solves the cursor problem). Let me know how it works on your devices, I tested it on several, both phones and tablets.

[Q] Newsmy car pad quad core dt3256s faulty ANDROID BOX

I was given a car stereo for a present . best present ever .
Its a duel operating system android wince
It was all working correctly for about a month then the android part became faulty.
it comes up with a error message .
bonovoHandle has stopped . when this comes up after booting the screen dulls
you can press ok but then it does the same thing.
I have had many attempts in contacting Newsmy but not one single reply. the ebay shop it was purchased from has closed down .
the windows part works well just the android is dead. I think if I was able to get firmware for it I could fix it but cant find that anywhere .
I really appreciate any help . links or advice . This website has been a big help amongst my friends but this android stereo has us all beat. Until it died this stereo was the best thing since sliced bread. Big thankyou for any help

My systen have many bugs ( FM radio RDS, not functioning, volume that sometimes raise to full or drop to zero after a single tap) and now the backlight of dash is disappeared.
At the beginning I had contact with skype, now they are not aswering at all..

I'm sorry to hear about these issues, these Carpad II units look very interesting but there is very little information out there about them. Anyone with one of these units, could you answer these questions:
1) Do steering wheel controls work in Android, or only in WinCE?
2) Can you listen to the radio (WinCE I assume) and run an Android app simultaneously? So say listen to the radio and also run the Waze gps app with voice prompts. How does it handle the audio mixing?
3) What is the boot time? From ignition to radio playing. I have a pure android unit now but the boot time is slow. I understand WinCE is much faster, and I hope the radio would start playing while the android system is still booting up.
Thanks!

The unit is very interesting and powerful, the fact you can't talk with the support is ridiculous because sometimes a problem can go away in 5 minutes of skype talks..
1) Only in WInCE. But not sure of your question.
2) Yes you can. WinCE have different volume levels (media, radio, phone, video ..) but all the audio in Android environment is streamed in the MEDIA channel of WinCE. You can still control single volumes in Android.
This is not so bad, but there is only a problem: music stream doesn't drop down during speech of navigators in Android.
3) Boot time is longer than OEM equipment of corse. First to be ready is WinCE with all the media and canbus sections. Radio (if on before last power off) start immediately. Android double the time. I use it for Sygic Navigator, and Google Maps navigation (the best because always up to date and with real time traffic)
Dont buy one

I get the pink box but then I get red tex telling me firmware will not load error. and pink box never flashes yellow I am thinking I have the wrong firmware version. I will try others . downloads are slow and often time out so I have to download again . will keep trying.
I cant tell what firmware I need , I don't have the box anymore and it never came with English instructions so I tossed them away. All I can tell you is written inside the pure android box is this. AD3188-JB4.22-CARPAD-1.0.0 THEN IN PEN IT HAS -79 . thankyou for your help

no change.. newsmy car stereo is no good.
I managed somehow to subscribe and post 3/4 questions on their chinese forum.
I obtained a couple of posts from another user (useful for the specific topic), and stop. No one from Newsmy answered in a week.
At this point I just have to hope that the Carpad will never break, and take back my unanswered questions.
For this reasons I strongly discourage anyone from outside China to buy a product newsmy.
In Italy I am a moderator in a forum community of the same vehicle of mine.
There was a lot of waiting for the reviews on this product, others would follow me to the purchase of Carpad probably. Now it will not happen.

Hi Summer,
my unit came from tradesolution.hk,
images and serial number in attachment.
I have differents issues, here are some:
RADIO SECTION->
- 80% of the FM stations I get them in MONO;
- FM "AF" function, is not funcional. I travel to the same cities every days, and with others radio I can keep the same radio stations, with CARPAD I lose the signal. Before I listened always two or three stations and frequencies changed without me lose the signal. With Carpad not happen.
- RDS never received any stream, even if the symbol appears on display;
(FM OEM antenna is connected, in fact, by disconnecting the cable, I do not find any station)
- I cannot scan FM with binded phisical key: only via touchscreen, and this is really useless;
OTHERS->
- I do not have the rear parking sensors, but I have aftermarket rear camera: I correctly get the image on the unit, but without sensors I get a continuos annoying beep and I cannot disable in any way. make a software way to DISABLE it;
- the quality of the microphone in a phone call is very very LOW.. make a software way to allow the use of an auxiliary microphone;
- backlight sometime is off, although in the rest of the dashboard is turned on;
...
I have other problems to list, but for the moment I stop. let's see what happens.
I consider regrettable the fact that the service contact on skype has abandoned me without answer. And from your forum you have locked my account after I asked a few questions.

Hello
I bought a newsmy carpad 2 for my ford focus 1.6 tdci 2010. Unfortunately I became no support from newsmy, althought I wrote severals mails: no answer, no help, nothing. I' m very disappointed! The newsmy carpad 2 is a very good product, but without support from producer Newsmy!!
I explain here my problem one more time with the hope that someone may help me!
I have a problem with the Newsmy Ford Mondeo,Focus 08,S-Max Android 4.2 Capacitive Touch Screen Car Pad 2. The serial number of the DVD Player is: SN E5PCF0018HQ0010 (overseas stock).
I installed the DVD Player. Unfortunately the wheel controls and the backlight of the player don't work. I asked a technician about it. He told me that the DVD player must be configured with the newest firmware of the player and with the software vehicleconfig otherwise the can-bus module of the player cannot work properly with my car. My car is a ford focus 1.6 tdci 2010.
Somebody can help me please??
Thanks in advance!
Roberto

Upgraded Android with instruction and image file given:
is it normal ?
I have lost Android Box??
:edit
NEVERMIND! Upgrade succeeded!
This 4.4 Android version is beautiful configured this way on the carpad and I can see a better UI and user experience.
Good work for this upgrade.
In the WinCE section instead, there is still an open issue regarding RDS and its related AF (alternate frequencies) function. This function allow user to travel km and km keeping the same Radio Station tuned. This function is responsible to scan in the background for alternative frequencies of the selected station and transparently switch.
Unfortunately carpad is currently sold as "RDS enabled" but is not fully enabled.
Hope in the future the manufacturer will update this part too.
Many thanks to Summer.
I am going to pass your skype contact other clients I know who are not fully satisfied with the product. I hope you will want to give them some good advice.

General joying 13.3 inch tesla style headunit

Hi everyone,
I just received this headunit from joying that's running Intel sc9853i chipset with 4gb of ram and android 8.
In order to get it I had to email joying directly at
[email protected]
I have to say this is the best unit I've ever used. And I have used a LOT of headunits including px3, Px5, PX6, ownice, and even most recently another tesla style headunit using rock chip.
The hardware is solid and clearly high quality.
The software is not bloated like all the other headunits. Google Hotword works out of the box. Same with google maps, calls and bluetooth connections. .
The steering wheel keys are detected immediately and it even gives the steering wheel code right at the top of the app which allows for multiple different options for app launches including google voice.
The unit auto sleeps and wakes from sleep immediately with no issues.
4G works right out of the box with tmobile us sim card.
The instructions come with the actual password for the factory settings screens and developer options screen which allows you to change the boot logo.
Audio is...pretty good. It's definitely better than other units I've used and the equalizer allows for changes that I can hear. I'm no audiophile but even I can tell that the audio quality is much better than headunits mentioned above.
I can honestly say I love that all of the bugs and problems with past headunits seem to be resolved for me in this unit.
If I could make any changes it would be with the hardware where the screen interfaces with the headunit. Because it's an auto-rotating headunit (which is more gimmicky than anything honestly) the screen itself is flush and not very adjustable up and down..this means I have to have the whole unit moved forward to mount in my dash as my car has an angled dashboard. Not a big deal by any means but a minor annoyance.
I hope this helps anyone looking to buy these units.
Let me know if you have questions!
Great to see Joying is releasing new units with motorized rotation.
I am a bit sad that the ratio is 16:9 instead of a more usable 16:10.
I am very sad that it's using the Unisoc / Speadtrum / Intel Airmont SC9853i (released Q2 2017) instead of the Tiger T618 or T710 from 2019.
Also, a new unit released with Android 8.1.. Really!? Android 11 beta has already been released.
I know Joying more of an assembler and not really a manufacturer and has little to no access to the source code of the software / firmware their products run. One would hope that they could "encourage" their supplier of coreboards (the pre-built board with processor / firmware) they all use to produce something more modern.
I am in the market for a new stereo for my car and purchased a Joying unit years ago. It's too slow for me now and I want to upgrade, but buying 4 year old product for top dollar is not something I am likely to do.
Did your unit come with the DSP chip for proper EQ adjustment? Many of the assemblers do not include the DSP chip to cut down on costs.
For those that aren't interested in the rotation perhaps this is a better unit for you: Joying 10.1" 1280x800 no rotation
How much did you pay for it?
And is it 1-DIN or 2-DIN size?
I am in the process of buying a 13-inch rotating headunit and it's either going to be this Joying unit or some other Chinese unit.
The Joying has the latest Intel CPU, SPDIF out but is Android 8 and 2-DIN.
The other one has the PX6, no SPDIF out, but has Android 9 and is 1-DIN, which I prefer because it will allow me to fit it an inch higher in the dashboard.
What do you notice more in real life, the Intel CPU vs. the PX6 or Android 9 vs. 8?

Yes dsp chip. But as I understand it dsp is a pretty deep field in which I don't know very much. I don't know if this answers your question but I am able to change eq settings for individual speakers at I think 11 channels..let me know if there's some way I can answer your question better than that.

100% the joying intel cpu is waaaay faster and has much fewer bugs than the PX6.

I'm currently working on video reviews of this unit. Thus far I've gotten the unboxing and install videos done, hoping to have reviews out in the next week or two; they take a surprisingly long time to shoot and edit.
Unboxing: https://youtu.be/h__Zc0fwOtw
Install: https://youtu.be/Xq1FvLoKESo (This unit turns out to be too big for my car's dashboard and no head units really fit well in the car because of the deep recessed design.)
Just confirmed with Joying, they have now implemented the 13.3inch head unit with Android 10. Can purchase it through joyingauto.eu/china-post-shipping-fee.html
Thank me guys, I ordered one this morning and talked the price down from $500.
The new unit has the UIS7862 CPU by the way.
Now I need to find a suitable Canbus cable for my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander. Any suggestions are welcome. I am in the Netherlands by the way.

How much did you pay? was it the 13.3inch display with android 10?
I am getting the 13.3-inch Android 10 version and I paid EUR 425.00 including shipping to the Netherlands.
I finally installed the headunit today in my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with the OEM Rockford Fosgate amplifier.
I used this cable: https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CTKMT11
But I can't get any sound.
I think it might have something to do with the Canbus type setting in the hidden settings menu, but I have no idea which one to select.
Also should I set the option for External Amplifier on or off?
I've read elsewhere they chose Singapore in the canbus settings and it worked
That's a pretty massive screen. Are you able to turn the brightness down enough at night so that you aren't blinded?

External on - I would think (if you have the Rockford amp)
Did your original have GPS ,?
The black box part of your cable has to be correct, you most likely have the wrong one and the amp is not being turned on.
The Mitsubishi units are a pain from what I've read
Possibly aerpro Mito-02 cable or CHMB4C patch cable
Check which is suitable for the outlander
Contact joying ? You might need the canbus cable. Definitely on older cars
I gave up tryi9ng to get the adapter cable working with the OEM Rockford Fosgate amplifier. The manufacturer wanted me to send it back for reprogramming without any assurance that it would work after that.
I have now fitted an Awave DSP-6 DSP amplifier that gets the signal from the headunit through optical out. I have fitted a 3-way set in the front doors and on the dash.
So yesterday was actually the first day I could use the Joying headunit.
It is still buggy with various apps repeatedly closing and several time the stock launcher refuses to show the app drawer. I have installed Nova Launcher.
One thing I can't figure out is the split screen function. With such a large display this would be very convenient. What am I doing wrong?

You don't tell us what you already tried. Always do that first! I am now risking to spend my precious time on something you already tried.
Also: All the default Joying (FYT) apps like music, radio, video, settings, etc. do NOT function in split screen as those stupid apps don't support it. Their screen layout is still based on android 1.6 and has never been changed. Therefore they can't use the multi-window feature of Android 7+.
Anyway: If you have two apps started, like your nav app and your (non-FYT/Joying) media player, you go to the rectangle in the top-right of your notification bar. If you tap it, you see the active and last used apps.
Tap & hold your desired app. On both left and right side of the screen you will see two grey areas (after 1-2 seconds). Draw the app to either the left or right area. Then select the other app for your splitscreen display.
Alternatively: If you use the touch-assistant (the little white dot normally in the top-left), you can tap it. One of the options is to start split-screen as well.
This has also been described in #19 of my SC9853i Q&A thread.
Obviously as a long time XDA member I tried this already...
I just got word from Joying that the split screen function is not supported on this Joying model.

Indeed . You have a screen the size of a cinema screen and you can't use split screen. Unbelievable.
And they really show a split-screen on their website !!!
I would really request (part of) my money back
