So tell me guys, what do you do when you guys get the "itch" of flashing a new ROM?
I try to resist of flashing a new ROM every single day, so what I do to suppress this itch is I take my friends phone and flash a ROM on it
Delete xda app for a week
I flash if I wanna flash, have a beer if I want a beer, load a bowl if I wanna puff, swear if I wanna swear. I could go on but you get the idea. If you wanna do it just do it. But I do like the idea of flashing other peoples phones. I could triple my flashing rate. lol

In the middle of the night while I was sleeping and dreaming of a actress most of you wouldnt know who she was, I get woke up with a panic call from said friend because the phone wouldnt send texts...they rebooted and all was fine. Like I said never again.
Flash when you get an update or aren't satisfied.
I am quite satisfied with the latest CM9 so I don't flash unless it is an update.

But if you don't flash every ROM your never know if your "satisfied" with an inferior ROM. I love AOKP but I still flash every ROM that gets posted for this phone. I find myself going back to AOKP more often than not because it suites my taste and style. But by flashing other things I can honestly say that it's my preference. To me it's a way of eliminating ignorance.

That's me. I like Remics. I like the touchwiz interface and the Samsung feel to it. Others don't, that's their choice, but I do. I keep trying new ROM's but don't like the interface or launcher or look of it and go back to Remics everytime.

Just curious. Takes me a couple of hours to get everything back the way I had it... the OP sounds like he wants to flash something every day. lol
My wife's phone I rooted and removed most of the bloatware and that's all she wants me to do and that's all *I* want to do to it.

Usually the best thing in this case is to have a daily phone and a second phone to do the flashing on. Once I found a favorite rom that works best for me I stop flashing frequently except updates of the rom. It's also easier when you have a rom that support multiple devices that you own.

This ROM looks so familiar... I just can't put my finger... WAIT! It is an exact copy of the one barak sent me when he first got it running...
http://twistedumbrella.slackdev.com/EclairSx-0.6.zip
Boot animation works (used the cyanogen one)
Apps to SD and such things work
Still no sound, bt, or wifi
Some files removed and apps added
link doesnt work Twisted.

Curious? Lol, I can read code. There is nothing in there from the new dump. Not to mention the random bits of code and files that barak was using to test, but have no purpose in the build for actual release.
I kinda feel a bit foolish for trying to buy you time in the other thread you started for this by saying you were taking on a big challenge. That wasn't an excuse to just re-release what was already done. It was meant to help people back off while you got your feet wet.

Alright so as many of you guys know, a lot of Team D.I.R.T ROMs have A2SD baked in! This may be looked on as good or bad! Some people have fears of partitioning their sdcard because 1 reason or other and some are just lazy to do so...hahahaha
Well I've found a solution for those that are lazy and don't want to rip open the ROM zip and do it themselves or for noobs that lack the knowledge to do so themselves!
Simple instructions....
1. Flash the ROM you want
2. DO NOT REBOOT
3. Flash the REMOVE A2SD zip
4. REBOOT
5. ENJOY!!
Please keep in mind that I've only tested this on AOSP ROMs so if you try it on Sense ROMs, please let me know......

Yea, don't rush it man... It is installed through bootstrap and CWM recovery, which are both working fine. I do not think that there are any known working Recovery on Boot methods for us at the time. Also, would be excellent to find a way to install other zips through stock recovery... I think that's being looked into (at least I know I will look into it)... So, please be very careful.. But, the mod zip works fine... in theory.
Related side note, I just finished porting the 1% battery to ICS (my first attempt, so.. who knows), but I do not want to even try to test it until I know I can get myself out of trouble easily...

Doing a reboot a couple times brings your apps back. It will error out throughout the process. But at the end will say successful. If it doesnt first try reboot a couple times to get your data back then try again. I am not the creator of the exploit as I noted so it might be better to ask bin4ry. But I have 2 nabi's and this worked on both. Before and after update. I did have to reroot after update though

Cool, I like twrp better than cwm. Of course I like 4ext recovery the best, but I know that would be asking a lot.

Cool, I look forward to checking it out. I just wish I knew how to mod the actual os, would love to enable "safe headphone volume" mode and "hold back to force close app". Not sure why they have those 2 turned off.

shouldn't be too hard to crank out. since this device is so close to nexus 7, getting cm10 going shouldn't be too much of an issue. I will make a patch to make nabi mode available still though

I just worry about breaking the monarch ui. My kid is 2-1/2 so I don't want her with a full cm10, yet.
My only experience is abd stuff and a little small tiny bit of theming for htc sense using the kitchen. Modding the settings menu just sounds so much harder. Or should I say so much easier to mess something up bad.

Well really as long as you don't touch /system/vendor you won't break monarch. You remove vendor you will have a normal tablet.

I think it could help me figure out how to do that mod I want to do, at least I hope it will help with that.
i was actually looking to pick one up, couldnt convince the wife my 13 month old needed one tho >.> IMO its a bit nicer than the n7 due to expandable memory and hdmi out.
however fuhu/nabi refuses to release source for kernel

My kid was under 1 year when we gave it to her. But in the beginning it was more start something for her and hand it over, now at 18months she knows how to take it off the charger and use it all on her own.
13 months is PERFECT get them started young, they need all the advantages they can get.
So, I ran firewater and wanted to get to recovery. I ran the adb command "adb boot recovery" and I get a screen with a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point in the middle. Is there a way out of this?
Please help.
That's just the stock recovery. Hold the power button down until the device reboots.
I held vol up and power and got out of it. phew. thx
i was gonna damn already :silly:

No, I understand what a brick is, i just haven't seen this screen before. What i didn't understand was that this is what Verizon's stock recovery looks like.

I'm not giving him hell..
I just feel if you are going to risk bricking your phone, you should at least know what the stock recovery looks like so we don't get cluttered with threads about people thinking they "bricked" their phone when it is on....
a brick means just that, it's a brick.
doesn't turn on, doesn't charge, notta.
I am glad the OP got his phone working though.
I just feel that S-OFF is very dangerous and I think people need to do some more research before diving in.. If you can't tell the difference between a stock recovery and a brick.. well - IMHO you shouldn't be S-OFF yet.
I am entitled to my opinion. But in no way was I giving him hell nor looking down on him, he created the thread, I gave an opinion; this is a forum after all.

I agree with you. Why do you guys think its called a "brick"?! If someone does not understand basic concepts like adb, flashing, and bricks, they should not be trying to s-off their phone.

i agree with that too. so many noobs
To many noobs.. We were all once. Been doing this for a few years. Just tried to upload a CWM backup and couldn't. Didn't realize I had to zip it first. I've done things much more complicated but couldn't do that. We'll all be noobs at something, no matter what. XDA is for noobs as much as for anyone else. Noob.. What a funny word anyway lol. Noob boob

Friend of mine was trying to revert back to stock ROM and he just deleted everything on advanced wipe on TWRP. Says no OS installed. Tried everything, but can't find a RUU for a sprint non-harman edition M8.

Why are they even called bricks
Phones don't really resemble bricks anymore. They're more like slabs.
Guys I think I slabbed my phone
Has a nice ring to it

No sir, you didn't slab your phone if it still has a ring to it.
knowing I didn't brick my phone,
I can't get into any recovery. when I press the volume up and power, I get the white HTC splash screen for a second then black.
I was trying to restore a nandroid from TWRP.
