Hi guys,
Do you recommend the update to ics ?
Im unsure whether it will worth or not.
In the costumer care they say that only recommend to advanced users, bcause internal memory stays very low and some apps may not run.
Can you tell me, please.
thanks

I wouldn't recommend it for you as you are obviously incapable of searching or reading all the threads where people have discussed ICS, features, performance etc.
This mean that if you try upgrading you will probably come back here with hundreds of questions that you can't be bothered to search for either.
Fallout all the way!!!!
Fallout is a great rom which brings in many features, tweaks and mods.
With the latest kernel, it functions smoothly and without any lag.(At least for me )
I would say that the ICS update is totally worth it, as it brings in a bunch of improvements and features.
Also with Fallout v5.0 you get all the goodness of HTC Sense 4.0 which is otherwise not there in the official RUU.
Now all Im waiting for is a stable version of nk111's jelly bean port for the desire s as I'm literally in love with project butter
Ps: No issues with Fallout V5.0 whatsoever till date :victory:

Thanks Ben. I wouldn't mind getting treated like cr4p by the newcomers if we were being paid for tech-support. It's the fact that they come expecting to get an immediate answer and not have to do any work themselves that gets me worked up

It took me a week to go back to Endy. Fallout started great at first, but after restoring all apps, settings, messages, etc. Laggy behavior started and the phone was really slow, sometimes responding to button presses after 10 seconds.
Endy 3.5 works great.
Any tips on where i can read up on the new kernel and its implications/benefits?
Thanks

ICS way better than GB (JB > ICS > GB)

You are right, Simon.
Anyways, if you are looking for an upgrade from your old useless GB for your Desire S, you can download ICS RUU from HTC support site.
ICS version is always better than the GB ones. No more hanging and restarts. Very smooth UI and awesome UI layout. U will love it.
Once iCS, you crave for JB.
I am now using Paranoid Android v2.14. Rooted from my ICS RUU.

Exactly my reason for avoiding ROMs. Its too bad people here get so pissy when you wont try their fav. ROM.
I am holding out for CM7. They have a GREAT reputation!
BTW-For all those that are using a min clock speed of 300+Mhz, I notice that my STOCK cpu min is 192Mhz. Try dropping your min speed down some, as that seems to be what the stock ROM uses...

Alright, I guess some things need to be SPELLED out for some here...
I meant to say, CUSTOM ROMS, as in, ROMS built by everyone and their grandma here.
Seems everyone has their own ROM these days...And I read a LOT of complaints about them. Please, dont go to bat for the ROMs. Everyone gets to have an opinion, let me have mine this time and back off. We have valid complaints.
Why is it that anytime someone here mentions anything slightly less than great about a ROM, someone with jungle fever has to step in and twist their nuts?

What he's saying is he's waiting for a custom ROM with no Sense and good reputation (i.e. CM7) to come along, then he'll flash that. He doesn't want to flash any custom ROM because he's heard bad things about some, which may or may not be true. You got a problem with that?
Personally, my favourite custom ROMs for the Sensation are InsertCoin 2.2 and Android Revolution HD. I'm not gonna flash any more ROMs until I can completely refresh my Sensation and put a clean, small ROM on it, without Sense. That ROM is CM7

After saying that my battery life on those ROMs was "awful" I feel the need to follow up. I posted a bit about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16852910#post16852910 but the short story is I'm now on Revolution HD 3.0.0 and after some research I found that the Facebook apps are doing something with the Calendar which was draining the battery. I'm only a few hours in, but so far so good with no account being added to either Facebook app.
Hey guys,
I've been out of the flashing game for some time now and looking for a fresh rom.
Some of the things I really look for are,
-solid battery life
-good camera interface (ive taken over 1600 photos since sep 2011)
-I hate a phone that freezes and WILL SACRIFICE bells and whistles for it
-I DIS-like the sense feature that allows the screens to rotate like a carosel (iv done it waay too many times on accident)
I will say I do prefer sense, for all the built in features that are very stable. But since the inspire has been out for a while maybe some of the alternates have STABLE features BUILT IN.
Here are a few that I really enjoyed
-Gingerbeast....can you say battery life and stability!!
-LeeDroid....the first rom i ever tried, good balance of features
-WCX_Sense....sense done beautifully! (not great battery life though)
and here are a couple roms that didn't fit my personality/desires
-virtuous unity 1.27
-original rumrunner
-ace miui
**I'm not a fan of adding a lot from the market** I usually find this slows the phone and adds to the stability issues
Open to try anything that you guys think would work well...even if its an updated version of something i didn't really like last time around
Thanks!

Coredroid is really good, its my preferred sense rom. lots of tweaking options within it.
WOW and removing apk's was pointless, (lmao). What one ROM may work great for one person may not work great for another. You have to try them out yourself. I love Redemption 4.0 has its small issues, but also Absolution 3.7 is very solid.

Virtuous Affinity seems to be pretty solid for a sense ROM. RCMix3D Runny 4.0 was also pretty best. I use my phone heavily and haven't noticed many bugs on Virtuous Affinity so I would recommend it to you.

If you are looking for stability, no carosel, and the best battery life I have ever experienced give the Juicy R2 version ROM a try. The link is in my sig. It is Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Sense 2.5. No added mods, or bells and whistles. Seriously thinking of going back to it myself. Using WCX at the moment. It is a great ROM but I have to agree that it is not the best for battery life. I can do without the new weather app in 3.0 and 3.5.

Now for the OP see one of the biggest issues is that a rom could run 100% on my device but not on yours. That is the reason for the try them out yourself and see what works best for you.

You got it.
Roms are very subjective as everybody has told you. I would recommend CoreDroid V9.4 that is truly awesome and battery life great. RCmix and WCX have been discontinued unfortunately, so I would just use a rom that is still supported. Anyway, all roms in here are great and very smooth and stable. In the end, it will depend on what you like....
Slowly but surely we r getting some serious upgrades without s-off or bootloader unlocked. Custom Roms are out now that dont use recovery. I'm scoring 5400 on Quadrant 2nd run with my Overclocked 1.8ghz De bloated, ultra fast rosie, de-odexed, zip aligned, advanced power menu, Free Tether havin themed HOX..This is for sure enough to hold us over till we get a real unlock!! Devs just started doing it like this...
It's only going to get better! Everyone wanting to return their phones because we aren't unlocked yet should think twice! What more do you want in the 3rd week after launch? Most of these new tweaks and roms have come out today. Wait till the end of the week and see how much better this is gonna be..

The devs are certainly doing a great job considering the state of the bootloader.
I'd like to see a CPU spy report of the OC module to see if it's utilizing other clock speeds effectively.
What about a Passmark Performance test? Those seem to be very thorough in their tests.
On my stock HOX I was getting somewhere around 2200-2300.
So, you get this beasty phone that beats all benchmarks, yet you can't do much on it, because everything is being FC...how ironic is that?

I personally havent had any negative effect of the multitasking issues if that is what you are referring to. If you are saying apps are FCing as in having errors, havent had any problems with that either. So what are you talking about? So far i can do everything i want to do, everything i was doing on my sensation which was OC'd to 1.7. it felt like a 5 year old device compared to this one. If it isnt working for you, return it. Its doing fine for me. Best phone i've ever used. The multitasking issue will get fixed. The International version is already significantly better with their first update. Welcome to XDA! I did have issues before running minfree. I could start a text message, exit with the home button, re-enter the app, and it would start over. Running minfree has resolved this issue. I'm not a big gamer on mobile, but I did test the before and after with Angry Birds Space. Before, it would completely refresh when exiting the app and re-entering, but now I can open several apps before it completely refreshes. It's not perfect, but has made it very tolerable. Also, I have either disabled or removed any of the AT&T or HTC bloat.

I know this isn't the place for this question, but : I know changing bootloaders (if it were unlocked) means you won't get updates from AT&T, but does rooting have the same side effect? Or can you still receive OTA updates from AT&T after rooting?

That I'm not sure about, but you can run the 1.82 RUU again which will remove root and the tampered flag in the bootloader.

I know Strapped365 is working on a rom with the LG launcher. I'm sure he will post something on it in a few days when he's done and has time.

Well it still has some issues. The major one is not going to deepsleep. Then the force close from portrait to landscape and back again. I'm racking my brain trying to figure it out though because I've gotten way more Widgets from LG added

If the ROM is CM-based there's a kernel patch in the Alpha 6 thread

I am currently but slowly lol! Learning and trying to port TWRP recovery in our device since 4ext for our device has still a long way.
For those wondering what twrp is

Here are some screenies from other devices.

I still don't have a development box to start developing so that first before the WIP since I would need to pull the whole CM build and compile it just to make this recovery. I don't think my good old vps is enough to do this kind of job and I'm not also considering to reformat my windows PC just for this.
I think it has been a pretty good summer for development on our MT4GS. We've got a nice crop of ICS roms to choose from, either AOSP or CM or several Sense flavors. It's a smorgasbord! :highfive:

Do what I used to do and just buy a box for just $300 at a Best Buy and load Linux on it.

I knew this summer was going to be a hit for the Doubleshot, but it seems all dev action has ceased since then.
Anyone know what's been going on with our device lately?
Just a BS thread to discuss our device. Devs feel free to chime in.

Well Sun_Dream has worked on our phone with a bit of Sense roms if you dig that.
"HTC Doublshot ICS Bliss" sporting Sense 3.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896643
and
"Doubleshot Android 4.0.4 Sense4.1+4A Base Ville_U_ICS_40_S_2.31.401.5": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832805
Both seem solid, didn't quite test them out as I'm digging XMC's Jellybean.
Should be a lot of development when Sense 4.5 comes out though I sense ports coming.

Still won't be that helpful to me since we got a crappy internet in our country. Pulling a whole CM build would take me like almost a day of non stop downloading to do that
Unlike on a vps I could just pull both cm7 & cm9 in 30minutes

If it helps I could give you teamviewer access on a virtual machine on my PC to access its resources when I'm not using it. Its not the best available but I'm sure it can help.

Ok so where I'm at now. I have figured out I didn't need to use anything from the EVO Shift to get this LG launcher up and running. So its not a port anymore ( so it lost andromaus settings which were cool but caused wakelocks ), its more so a launcher replacement, all other cm9 functions work like they should. So right now I'm trying to figure out how to post it, and here are my posting options I can either
1. Just package all the launcher and widgets as a flash over for any CLEAN INSTALL OF AOSP/AOKP ( will need testers for AOKP ). And a certain set of gapps so the gallery don't get broken
Or
2. I can just pre package everything into a CM build ( gapps and all ) so nothing gets broken. Its your call here is a couple screen shots. And if anyone wants to give it a try just pm me ill get you a dropbox link

I don't know about other people, but personally I'd go with option 2. You will have a lot less bugs to deal with and give yourself more time to focus on improving it and adding features. I don't know what you think about that but that's what I'd go with

First, I am very new at rooting and customizing Android and appreciate any help understanding. Please don't take my questions wrong, the screenshots on these ROMS look amazing and I know more than a few tons of hours went into developing and testing, it really is that I am not comprehending the differences I'm finding.
Thanks to the help of the great tutorials here, my SK4G is now successfully rooted! I've been looking at ROMS now for a very long time and found I am really leaning towards Glorious Overdose v5 or neXus JB.
What I'm wondering though, is why would I go through the trouble and risk of flashing if it is essentially still running froyo? Since it's rooted, could I simply uninstall the junkware and use Holo or ADW for a similar effect and virtually no risk? Of course I do see the difference in the kernal version, but as I said I am new to this and it's just my guess that kernal is even a big difference maker.
I am very obviously missing something here, and though I am searching I'm not quite finding what it is I'm not understanding. Otherwise as the video stated when I signed up... I'm a noob...

Thanks for pointing out Overdose is buggy, I have that and nexus JB downloaded so perhaps I'll go with JB. Admittedly I'm a bit nervous to take that next step and flash. If I brick I have no backup phone, but it looks like the instructions here on this website are pretty clear and easy to follow. Plus, I'm a risk taker lol!
There are many reasons to flash a custom ROM, in addition to what Immortality said: you can flash one that looks and feels more like GingerBread, IceCreamSandwich, JellyBean, etc. You can pick one that isn't so bloated (although once you're rooted, you can pretty easily remove the bloat). I've tried a few, and here are my notes:
GOV33+LEAN-PERFORMANCE-RELEASE - Started out good, but over time SU stopped working, battery life degraded. Liked LauncherPro. Maybe it just needs to be reinstalled
neXus_JB_v1.2 - Colors hard to read (white on gray). Seems like too many unnecessary apps (live wallpapers, etc).
MeMoRy - Based on GOV3.3 Lean. Uses Lightning Launcher, which I didn't like at first, but it's very simple and presumably lightweight. However, the supplied Jelly Bean keyboard keeps crashing. I installed the ICS keyboard and removed the JB keyboard, and this is now the ROM I use.
Windxixi just posted about a new ROM that he says is based on GB and works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42562471#post42562471. Might be worth following.

Thanks for your insight, very much appreciate it. I did see that GB post, looks really interesting. Once someone determines if it's actually upside down as in his pic or not I may just go with that one. Unless it really is upside down, that would seriously drive me nuts!

Sweet, definitely keeping my eyes open on that thread because I know for certain I cannot fix it! I haven't even had the guts to flash a new ROM yet or even delete bloatware, only froze it so far...
i like both gov2 and nexus jb.
both of them smooth like a charm

But I still wouldn't use it if this is your only phone. Keyboard does not work so you are stranded with a virtual keyboard. Battery life does not seem to be all that great. No buttons work on the actual phone except the power button, trackpad button, and the volume down button. The gyroscope does not work and I have not even set up my SIM on this so I don't know how it works with actual use.
