which rom and kernel and you using and what type of battery life are you getting? im using faux 0.03 kernel on interactive setting and the senseless rom 1.3 and with heavy use im getting about 5 hrs, how about everyone else?
I tried InsertCoin and Revolution HD and the battery life was awful. Everyone said I needed to calibrate my battery, let it charge and die a few times but none of that worked. I went back to stock and I got over a day and a half

Same here! My battery life is so much better on stock. I also kept having data outages when I was using custom roms. I wasn't getting important calls and text messages. I went back to stock rom and everything is great again.

Exactly my reason for avoiding ROMs. Its too bad people here get so pissy when you wont try their fav. ROM.
I am holding out for CM7. They have a GREAT reputation!
BTW-For all those that are using a min clock speed of 300+Mhz, I notice that my STOCK cpu min is 192Mhz. Try dropping your min speed down some, as that seems to be what the stock ROM uses...

Alright, I guess some things need to be SPELLED out for some here...
I meant to say, CUSTOM ROMS, as in, ROMS built by everyone and their grandma here.
Seems everyone has their own ROM these days...And I read a LOT of complaints about them. Please, dont go to bat for the ROMs. Everyone gets to have an opinion, let me have mine this time and back off. We have valid complaints.
Why is it that anytime someone here mentions anything slightly less than great about a ROM, someone with jungle fever has to step in and twist their nuts?

Try reading a bit more next time?! I anticipated an idiot comment so I defined it within the comment, so please read it as I spent a lot of brain cells coming up with it.

What he's saying is he's waiting for a custom ROM with no Sense and good reputation (i.e. CM7) to come along, then he'll flash that. He doesn't want to flash any custom ROM because he's heard bad things about some, which may or may not be true. You got a problem with that?
Personally, my favourite custom ROMs for the Sensation are InsertCoin 2.2 and Android Revolution HD. I'm not gonna flash any more ROMs until I can completely refresh my Sensation and put a clean, small ROM on it, without Sense. That ROM is CM7

Thankfully, AndroidForums suffers from no such bad-rep, and we are all striving here to make sure that continues."
Looks like XDA has alot of work to do. Alot of people like you here. Who cares why I am still here? I am...Why do you care so much? I find it interesting that there are a handful of turds, including you, that go around making trouble for people. Are you THAT unhappy with life that you need to make others unhappy?
I believe most people here would agree that my point was made, correctly. Whats your age? I feel like I am arguing with a teenager that has yet to make it to Algebra 2. (No offense to those that HAVENT had Algebra 2...)
If you have zilch to say about what "WE" are all talking about, then why not go flash a ROM? Or better yet, have some lemonaide! :-D

After saying that my battery life on those ROMs was "awful" I feel the need to follow up. I posted a bit about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16852910#post16852910 but the short story is I'm now on Revolution HD 3.0.0 and after some research I found that the Facebook apps are doing something with the Calendar which was draining the battery. I'm only a few hours in, but so far so good with no account being added to either Facebook app.

This is not a best rom question, but I'm curious what subjectively is your favorite and why? Every Rom thread seems to have at least one person chiming in with "tried them all, this is the best" comment, but surely there are some roms that just don't work out for people.
I'm running miui right now, and I love the level of customization and the little tweaks. One of my favorite features is turning on the flashlight from the lock screen, just a little tweak, but so useful. I also really liked honeysense, but I couldn't get it to stop sucking my battery 5% every hour. What do you all think?

I guess a feature I can highlight is the CPU clock management scheme. It's automated. I like jacking with my phone as much as the next guy, but CPU clocking is a feature I would rather have automated, and from what I can discern the Virtuous devs came up with quite an elegant solution.
[Edit] And I "build" CPU's for a living haha. Funny/strange and funny/haha in a way that is pretty much the one thing I'd just as soon not to have to eff with on my effin phone :-o .

I like the Sense UI. Yeah I know it takes up RAM blah blah blah but whatev's I like it. As far as this ROM goes, I can't find a d-thing wrong with it. Nothing. It's like what a stock ROM should be, and Virtuous is way better than the AT&T stock ROM.

Currently running Honeysense and I love the low battery consumption compared to other ROMs. Other ROMs have just drained my battery crazily. But running Honeysense has prolonged my battery life greatly while giving me my favorite Sense features on my phone. Couldn't be happier with it.
I like cm7 for tweaking the auto brightness settings, customizing the power widgets in the notification bar, and customizing the haptic feedback settings.

When I was looking into buying a phone, I told the guy I was waiting for the iphone5 before making a decision. He then told me that's stupid because no matter what, you're still stuck with ios. I was a little offended because I had jailbroken my iphone and had tweaked it with lockinfo, five icon dock, sb settings, themed with winterboard and more. I showed him my phone thinking I would shut him up, and then he replied that I was half way to android. I couldn't believe this, but the more research I did, I realized that even jailbroken, I was still not able to do everything I wanted to on my phone.
One of the biggest reasons I went Inspire over Atrix was the number of Roms available and the XDA support was much better. On a spec sheet, the Atrix has Inspire beat in almost every category, but I believe the user experience is better on Inspire. Can't be happier.
Finally, for those of you on Virtuous Unity, how would you compare that ROM with RCmix3D? I really liked RC, so I'm wondering what the differences are.

I keep hearing about the RCMix ROM. I will put that one on the list. One issue some of us did find the last day or so is we are not able to connect adb. Weird. I am just waiting for my phone to charge to 100% and I am going to re-flash the ROM full wipe with no apps restore in an effort to see if the issue is the ROM or something in my settings.
Edit" This was fixed with a full un-install / re-install of the Android SDK. Wjy the previous install worked on other ROM's and not this one is unknown. Totally enjoying Virtuous OC'd at 1.4M. I have delved into the built it CPU frequency management scheme and it blows away cheesy CPU apps. Totally elegant.
Running LeeDroid v3.2.1 with full sense 3.0/3D add-on and it's arguably the best rom I've ran to date. The battery isn't the greatest but I keep it plugged in at my desk for the most part so it isn't really an issue for me. I love the visual aspects and animations of this rom like the 3D UI/3D widgets, the lock screen with the Lord of the Rings modded ring and the Photo grid widget.

I was on gingerbeast for a good two weeks, and it is a great rom. The one thing that I couldn't get over was the lack of tap to focus on the camera. I know it's a little thing, but I just missed it so much from my sense based roms. I went to miui as a result, and was surprised at how many customizations it has. I just flashed virtuous unity today, and so far so good!
right now im loving cyanogenmod 7 nightly 110 which i think is good enough for a stable release but i love the power and battery i get from it, 46 hours and still going
Hey guys,
I've been out of the flashing game for some time now and looking for a fresh rom.
Some of the things I really look for are,
-solid battery life
-good camera interface (ive taken over 1600 photos since sep 2011)
-I hate a phone that freezes and WILL SACRIFICE bells and whistles for it
-I DIS-like the sense feature that allows the screens to rotate like a carosel (iv done it waay too many times on accident)
I will say I do prefer sense, for all the built in features that are very stable. But since the inspire has been out for a while maybe some of the alternates have STABLE features BUILT IN.
Here are a few that I really enjoyed
-Gingerbeast....can you say battery life and stability!!
-LeeDroid....the first rom i ever tried, good balance of features
-WCX_Sense....sense done beautifully! (not great battery life though)
and here are a couple roms that didn't fit my personality/desires
-virtuous unity 1.27
-original rumrunner
-ace miui
**I'm not a fan of adding a lot from the market** I usually find this slows the phone and adds to the stability issues
Open to try anything that you guys think would work well...even if its an updated version of something i didn't really like last time around
Thanks!

Coredroid is really good, its my preferred sense rom. lots of tweaking options within it.
WOW and removing apk's was pointless, (lmao). What one ROM may work great for one person may not work great for another. You have to try them out yourself. I love Redemption 4.0 has its small issues, but also Absolution 3.7 is very solid.

If you are looking for stability, no carosel, and the best battery life I have ever experienced give the Juicy R2 version ROM a try. The link is in my sig. It is Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Sense 2.5. No added mods, or bells and whistles. Seriously thinking of going back to it myself. Using WCX at the moment. It is a great ROM but I have to agree that it is not the best for battery life. I can do without the new weather app in 3.0 and 3.5.

Now for the OP see one of the biggest issues is that a rom could run 100% on my device but not on yours. That is the reason for the try them out yourself and see what works best for you.

You got it.
Roms are very subjective as everybody has told you. I would recommend CoreDroid V9.4 that is truly awesome and battery life great. RCmix and WCX have been discontinued unfortunately, so I would just use a rom that is still supported. Anyway, all roms in here are great and very smooth and stable. In the end, it will depend on what you like....
I just want to start off by saying I am new to the root world. That being said I have never had so much fun with a device after rooting and going flash rom crazy.. This is my 1st smart phone & I've had it for about a year. I have hated this damn phone for almost that whole time until I decided to root. i understand completely, im new to the root world too and man this gave more life into my phone, makes me feel like i have a new phone after i flashed ics
Thinking of buying this phone used (and then ofcourse I'll root/ROM it with whatever the recommendation here is).
How's the battery life? I have an LG P509 (optimus one), it has a 3.5 inch screen and a 700Mhz processor but the battery life is really good with Cyogenmod 7. When the phone was new, it used to go for 12 days on a single charge (I'm a very light user, so maybe a few short calls a week, that's it).
So if you charge it fully, do you still have to charge it every day even if you barely use it?
Well if you get one welcome to the G2x family. It has a 1500 mah battery. I am a pretty heavy user and the battery lasts the whole day & I mean I am on it almost all the time. The phone does an adequate job on conserving battery life. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have anymore questions on the phone & hit the thanks tab please.

Thanks so if it lasts one day on heavy use, it should last longer on light/standby, cool. I clicked the thanks button for your post.
I'm trying to find out if there's a working FM radio on the phone. The phone specs on GsmArena say it has one:
gsmarena.com/t_mobile_g2x-3888.php
'Radio: Stereo FM radio with RDS'
But I'm seeing comments elsewhere where people said it doesn't work.
I know finding a free working radio app is a challenge. It has been for my current phone, LG p500 Optimus one, which has an FM radio (that works for local radio, no internet streaming). I found one free solution that partially works (no seek function).
If the phone has the hardware and no app, I could buy the $10 Spirit FM radio app which might work.
So can you guys see any FM radio functionality?
Well I don't know if this helps but I use an app called tuneinradio. I listen to local FM stations as well as many other through out the country.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
Oh yea, I got that app a few days ago. That works through data/wifi. Its a nice app.
I might buy it even if there's no FM radio, considering I almost never use it. I still like having the option.
From what I can remember reading... I don't think we have the functionality.
And nickster! I'm glad you love your phone now... I can't even imagine going a year with something I don't enjoy, lol. I had a MyTouch 3G Slide for a while and eventually wanted to root it when I heard it wouldn't get 2.3... after overclocking I guess you could say I had the same experience, haha.
Yeah it was a long year.
It made me truly appreciate all these options for flashing though. . Now if we could only get LG to release the ics code hehe.

I don't know, I guess I'll keep looking around and until then survive on my current phone.

Slowly but surely we r getting some serious upgrades without s-off or bootloader unlocked. Custom Roms are out now that dont use recovery. I'm scoring 5400 on Quadrant 2nd run with my Overclocked 1.8ghz De bloated, ultra fast rosie, de-odexed, zip aligned, advanced power menu, Free Tether havin themed HOX..This is for sure enough to hold us over till we get a real unlock!! Devs just started doing it like this...
It's only going to get better! Everyone wanting to return their phones because we aren't unlocked yet should think twice! What more do you want in the 3rd week after launch? Most of these new tweaks and roms have come out today. Wait till the end of the week and see how much better this is gonna be..

236 was best of about 15 runs? 17th over all. Not to bad
Sounds promising!

The devs are certainly doing a great job considering the state of the bootloader.
I'd like to see a CPU spy report of the OC module to see if it's utilizing other clock speeds effectively.
What about a Passmark Performance test? Those seem to be very thorough in their tests.
On my stock HOX I was getting somewhere around 2200-2300.
So, you get this beasty phone that beats all benchmarks, yet you can't do much on it, because everything is being FC...how ironic is that?

Thats insane. The best I got on my sensation XL was 537 with its last generation snapdragon cores.

I personally havent had any negative effect of the multitasking issues if that is what you are referring to. If you are saying apps are FCing as in having errors, havent had any problems with that either. So what are you talking about? So far i can do everything i want to do, everything i was doing on my sensation which was OC'd to 1.7. it felt like a 5 year old device compared to this one. If it isnt working for you, return it. Its doing fine for me. Best phone i've ever used. The multitasking issue will get fixed. The International version is already significantly better with their first update. I stream music daily in my car and have never had the service stop. i also use minfree and v6superscript which both help the mt woes.

Overclocking this thing is pointless. Aside from boosting meaningless benchmarks there is no reason to do it, the S4 screams as is.

I tried messing around with Minfreemanager, but it ended up making my phone lock-up on a fairly regular basis, presumably because it couldn't get the free RAM it needed. Am I the only one having that problem? Are you on 1.82?

Yeah, I'm on 1.82. I've used both the mild and default presets with no issues. Multitasking is working a lot better now to point where it's not really bothersome at all.

If you haven't had any issues with multitasking, how can you say that minifree and v6superscript help with the multitasknig woes?
I'm new here, I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm just seriously struggling with "multitasking woes" personally and there are so many saying that it "doesn't bother them," I'm trying to figure out if it's something that I'm doing wrong or they're doing right or what.

Welcome to XDA! I did have issues before running minfree. I could start a text message, exit with the home button, re-enter the app, and it would start over. Running minfree has resolved this issue. I'm not a big gamer on mobile, but I did test the before and after with Angry Birds Space. Before, it would completely refresh when exiting the app and re-entering, but now I can open several apps before it completely refreshes. It's not perfect, but has made it very tolerable. Also, I have either disabled or removed any of the AT&T or HTC bloat.

Glad to hear it, tahnks for the response
I know this isn't the place for this question, but : I know changing bootloaders (if it were unlocked) means you won't get updates from AT&T, but does rooting have the same side effect? Or can you still receive OTA updates from AT&T after rooting?

That I'm not sure about, but you can run the 1.82 RUU again which will remove root and the tampered flag in the bootloader.
With being overclocked to 1.8, how is your battery life?
Hi guys,
Do you recommend the update to ics ?
Im unsure whether it will worth or not.
In the costumer care they say that only recommend to advanced users, bcause internal memory stays very low and some apps may not run.
Can you tell me, please.
thanks

I wouldn't recommend it for you as you are obviously incapable of searching or reading all the threads where people have discussed ICS, features, performance etc.
This mean that if you try upgrading you will probably come back here with hundreds of questions that you can't be bothered to search for either.
Fallout all the way!!!!
Fallout is a great rom which brings in many features, tweaks and mods.
With the latest kernel, it functions smoothly and without any lag.(At least for me )
I would say that the ICS update is totally worth it, as it brings in a bunch of improvements and features.
Also with Fallout v5.0 you get all the goodness of HTC Sense 4.0 which is otherwise not there in the official RUU.
Now all Im waiting for is a stable version of nk111's jelly bean port for the desire s as I'm literally in love with project butter
Ps: No issues with Fallout V5.0 whatsoever till date :victory:

Thanks Ben. I wouldn't mind getting treated like cr4p by the newcomers if we were being paid for tech-support. It's the fact that they come expecting to get an immediate answer and not have to do any work themselves that gets me worked up

It took me a week to go back to Endy. Fallout started great at first, but after restoring all apps, settings, messages, etc. Laggy behavior started and the phone was really slow, sometimes responding to button presses after 10 seconds.
Endy 3.5 works great.
Any tips on where i can read up on the new kernel and its implications/benefits?
Thanks

ICS way better than GB (JB > ICS > GB)

You are right, Simon.
Anyways, if you are looking for an upgrade from your old useless GB for your Desire S, you can download ICS RUU from HTC support site.
ICS version is always better than the GB ones. No more hanging and restarts. Very smooth UI and awesome UI layout. U will love it.
Once iCS, you crave for JB.
I am now using Paranoid Android v2.14. Rooted from my ICS RUU.

I hope you didn't restore the setting through Titanium backup... I think it is better to not mix settings of 3.5 with ICS.
It's my experince as unexperienced rooted user...
