I'm about to make the switch from the GS3 to the asian/international htc one xl (x325s) and i just to know one more thing: root.
I've read here that root is NOT possible on anything later than SW version 1.85. according to the store i'm purchasing it from, its shipping with either 1.88, 1.89 or maybe even 2.20 (highly unlikely).
would it still be possible to root the phone?
Thanks
The currently unrooted One XL applies only to the AT&T carrier branded version. All others can be unlocked thru htcdev.....

I see. so the international one xl, once unlocked from htcdev, can be rooted regardless of its software version? i ask because i searched the forums and saw that the >1.85 root restriction apply to the telestra (aus) one xl as well.

You can definitely root the Rogers One X. You'll have to unlock the boot loader, root the phone, and then install TWRP recovery to flash a rom. There are many guides on how to do those. You'll only be able to install One X roms from this forum. The international One X roms won't work.

S-Off has not been achieved for this phone. But you can unlock the bootloader, root, and install custom ROMs.
You can only install custom ROMs in the AT&T, Rogers etc. forum. Our device is the Snapdragon S4 dual core version. The "international" version is a completely different chipset (Tegra3 quad core), and ROMs are not interchangeable. Not only will flashing a ROM for the "other" One X not work, it may also brick your phone.
My index is a good place to start looking for things: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
In particular, in the "ROOT" section you will find a link for the Rogers root method. The thread is old. So make sure you research that it works for your firmware version.
I don't personally have the Rogers One X, so hopefully somebody else will come on and give some more in-depth help with the bootloader unlock, root process.
Hey I have the Rogers HTC One x and all I did was unlock the bootloader via HTC Dev and then put a recovery (TWRP) via ADB commands. Then I was able to successfully flash a ROM.

Follow my guide (in my signature) for the Telus variant. The files attached in my guide is also applicable for the Rogers variant as well.
As redpoint mentioned, S-OFF is not yet possible but you can unlock your bootloader and then install a custom recovery to get a custom ROM with root permissions.
Make sure you write down your Rogers APN's before you do anything though. Not sure if Rogers needs two APNs like Telus does, but if you want to keep your default LTE/APN settings, write them down or back them up so you can restore them EXACTLY after you flash a new ROM.

I belive that Rogers only needs one and telus also only requires one APN.

Yea Rogers needs one APN, the LTE one. Which can be easily found by a simple google search.

My Telus HOX, works on one apn, however it needs a second one for LTE to work properly on Telus.
On Rogers, just had the one apn and it was or seemed fine to me.

Strange, I'm currently using one APN for my HOX on Telus for LTE. What is your second Apn address?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
I agree, strange.
Another Telus member come up with it.
So just make another apn, keep your original.
Then just add,
NAME: Telus ISP
APN:ISP.TELUS.COM
APN TYPE: DUN

Hello,
I bought a "unlocked" HTC One X on Amazon and got a 2.20 AT&T HTC One X, full of AT&T bloatware. Is it possible to at least remove the AT&T bloatware?
I don't even think it's unlocked!
Thanks

1 - Check if you have root or not (Go to the market, look for root check)
2 - If you have root, download Root uninstaller from the market, and uninstall everything from AT&T

Read the thread. I do not have root access, and I have system firmware 2.20 which cannot be rooted.
I bought an unlocked phone on Amazon and got stuck with one that isn't unlocked and is full of AT&T crapware.
Probably going to send it back and get a S III if I can't get it rooted.

I think the most you can is disable them
How ????

Go to "manage apps" then "all". Click an app and choose "disable".

Are you sure you didn't buy a network unlocked phone... Not bl unlocked.
Most phones sold as "unlocked" means sim unlocked

You need root to uninstall the bloat.

I searched everywhere and was just curious what the current value range would be?
Sent from my HTC One XL
Um... Why are you looking for s-off there's only a couple that own this phone that have s-off
I have one and was curious if they have any premium over the S-ON version if I decided to switch.
Sent from my HTC One XL
I wouldn't pay much more for a s-off phone. At some point we may get s-off and it will lose value
The advantage of s-off for regular users is being able to flash kernels in recovery. You can downgrade your hboot and be able to do this

I agree.

Phone has no additional value. It's still the same phone

That's what I figured. I hope T-Mobile turns on more towers here in 2013.

Changed my mind I don't care what they are worth since I like it and I'm not selling it.
I'll take it off your hands for $20, assuming you throw in shipping.

I like the phone. I have it dialed in for my needs. If I had the new firmware and hboot it would be the exact same answer too

I think having the htc logo rather than the at&t logo is worth $20 all by itself!

Hi,
The phone that I bought off eBay a couple of months ago, shows S-Off in the bootloader (on Hboot 1.09). I never thought that it was a rare piece.
EDIT: It seems I misunderstood. It has to be S-Off before you unlock it, right?

No.
Not sure about your phone but I didn't have to sim unlock or unlock the boatloader on mine. Just rooted it and loaded twrp and started flashing roms the first night I got it.
Sent from my HTC One XL
I got it SIM unlocked from eBay (India) and then I followed the All-In_One Kit by hasoon2000 to root and install a custom ROM. So I did an HTC-Dev unlock.
Anyhow, I get S-Off in the bootloader now. So all I know is that I dont need to flash any .img for installing custom ROMs.
I have a Htc one XL on At&t and I was wondering if I unlocked my phone will I be able to get the update with the International phones?
Sent from my HTC One X
No, you cannot flash international roms. You can however wait to get the jelly bean update for our phone.

I thinks he means if he unlocks the bootloader, later on wants to know if he can relock and revert back to stock and update to jellybean when it comes out for the one xl, and he could. But like ECEXCURSION said do not flash any international roms on your dual core one xl..
Ps why does your sig say htc one x instead of xl?
wrong section !!

Trying to load anything for the international One X will either fail or brick your phone. They are two different phones with the same name.
The AT&T One X/XL is completely different hardware internally than the international version. The fact that JB has rolled out for the international version has no bearing on our version, and it hasn't started rolling out yet.
We already have a Jellybean thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772429
Redundant thread closed.
Hi all,
I just wanted to find out if I am using the latest software released by HTC for One XL. I am using international version of unlocked one's xl.
As per the screenshot my software version is 3.17 but I have read at a few places that the latest version is 3.18
Also I think this might be important to state here that I am supercid
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
3.18 is only for AT&T (US). 3.17 is the newest firmware for your version.
I do not believe there were any significant changes that differentiate 3.17 from 3.18. In fact, some custom ROMs (like CleanROM) actually reverted from 3.18 back to 3.17, since the AT&T specific meddling caused significant issues and removed some functionality.
Thanks this is most helpful

Is there a specific thread for htc xl international version? I bought mine here in saudi arabia and i am planning to install custom rom.pls. Can someone lead me to a link. Thanks.
What does it say in your bootloader? If it shows your device as Evita_UTL, we don't have a forum for that specific device. Plus there is very little known about it.

This has nothing to do with the OP. Should have started your own thread.
