You can definitely root the Rogers One X. You'll have to unlock the boot loader, root the phone, and then install TWRP recovery to flash a rom. There are many guides on how to do those. You'll only be able to install One X roms from this forum. The international One X roms won't work.

S-Off has not been achieved for this phone. But you can unlock the bootloader, root, and install custom ROMs.
You can only install custom ROMs in the AT&T, Rogers etc. forum. Our device is the Snapdragon S4 dual core version. The "international" version is a completely different chipset (Tegra3 quad core), and ROMs are not interchangeable. Not only will flashing a ROM for the "other" One X not work, it may also brick your phone.
My index is a good place to start looking for things: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
In particular, in the "ROOT" section you will find a link for the Rogers root method. The thread is old. So make sure you research that it works for your firmware version.
I don't personally have the Rogers One X, so hopefully somebody else will come on and give some more in-depth help with the bootloader unlock, root process.

Hey I have the Rogers HTC One x and all I did was unlock the bootloader via HTC Dev and then put a recovery (TWRP) via ADB commands. Then I was able to successfully flash a ROM.

Follow my guide (in my signature) for the Telus variant. The files attached in my guide is also applicable for the Rogers variant as well.
As redpoint mentioned, S-OFF is not yet possible but you can unlock your bootloader and then install a custom recovery to get a custom ROM with root permissions.
Make sure you write down your Rogers APN's before you do anything though. Not sure if Rogers needs two APNs like Telus does, but if you want to keep your default LTE/APN settings, write them down or back them up so you can restore them EXACTLY after you flash a new ROM.

I belive that Rogers only needs one and telus also only requires one APN.

Yea Rogers needs one APN, the LTE one. Which can be easily found by a simple google search.

My Telus HOX, works on one apn, however it needs a second one for LTE to work properly on Telus.
On Rogers, just had the one apn and it was or seemed fine to me.

Strange, I'm currently using one APN for my HOX on Telus for LTE. What is your second Apn address?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium

I agree, strange.
Another Telus member come up with it.
So just make another apn, keep your original.
Then just add,
NAME: Telus ISP
APN:ISP.TELUS.COM
APN TYPE: DUN

How to un-root HTC One S

I Want to un-root my unlocked HTC One S. The original carrier was Telus (Canada) But i have been using it on Bell. I have read a couple forums on here and none seem to help me. My phone was rooted with a stock rom. But i have deleted all Super user data and relocked my boot loader And re installed the stock recovery but i still cannot get software updates (The reason I want to un-root) Can someone tell me what i am missing?
Did you try the full unroot option within SuperSu's settings?
Edit: nevermind. You said super user not supersu

I have downloaded the Rogers ruu. But haven't ran it yet. Will it lock my phone to rogers if i run it? Or do i need to find a ruu the is for my appropriate carrier?
Get then Run the Telus RUU.
There's few threads about that on XDA with easy steps.

Unless you got a SuperCID your phone is branded as a Telus phone and require the Telus RUU. RUUs are linked with the CID of the phone, not the SIM inserted, you can't run a Bell RUU.

[Q] Telstra 1.89 XL can I load custom ROM

I have read a lot of posts, some say it is not possible some say it is.
Yes it's possible. Unlock your bootloader through htcdev.com then you can flash a recovery and then a rom.
Check out the telstra one XL thread in the general forum as I've posted the steps there a few times.
Sent from my HTC One XL
It is possible, I just flashed the Telstra 1.89 Rom to my AT&T One X, battery life is much better without constantly searching for LTE

It worked thanks.
After loading recovery, make sure you go straight into recovery and do a backup, or you wont have one.

Rooting for software 1.91.661.4

Hi so I have an unlocked htc one x, previously from telus (just guessing because I have the app house app) my software version is as seen above 1.91.661.4 and kernel is:
3.08-01163-g093fcd8
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
is this version rootable? And if so, would someone with the same specs be able to confirm?
Any OneX from Canada, can be boot loader unlocked through Htcdev.com
Then after reading, much reading go unlock boot loader then read about TWRP, not cwm.
Then when you're done there, all the custom Rom goodness awaits you.
I don't have links to threads for you sorry, you will have to search or wait for one the forum gurus to post up some.
I hope that helps a little for your peace of mind.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I am confused as to what 'TWRP' and 'cwm' are though, could you elaborate?
They are in short, custom recoveries for flashing custom roms an much more.
Do not use cwm, use twrp, cwm can cause issues.
Team win recovery project I believe is name.

Just to be clear somethings up. The 1.91 rom from Rogers can't be rooted.
The bright side is that just like all the other carriers with the exception of AT&T, Rogers has no problem with us unlocking the bootloader through HTC and installing custom roms.
You need to go to the HTC Dev website and follow the instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Once that is done, come to the development section here on XDA and following the instructions to install TWRP.
After that you are free to install any rom for the ONE XL. Just make sure that the rom you are installing is for the Evita model.

I see the Telus guide here basically says to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, and install a rooted ROM to achieve root.
Is it possible to flash SuperSU to the phone, once you have the bootloader unlocked and custom recovery installed? For instance, if somebody wants root, but to otherwise stay stock?
Don't have any experience with the Telus version, just wondering.
So I noticed on the htcdev website, there is no item in the list for HTC One X. Which one am I supposed to pick?

Ok so I unlocked the bootloader by following the instructions from HTC's website. But is there a proven method to root the 1.91 telus firmware?
Dan, sorry I never bothered to try an root my stock Rom, I installed a custom Rom immediately after using goomanager to install twrp recovery.
Never backed up original Rom, never going back and want the space for back ups of different custom roms so I can flash back an forth easier with what little sd storage space we have.
If you want root for it, may have to dig in forums a little deeper..My suggestion is try Cleanrom V, close to stock an very clean an smooth as a daily driver.
(Cm10 too once they get Nightlies working again for full on senseless fun)
Cheers

From everything I've read, the accepted method for your phone is to flash a custom ROM, or pre-rooted stock ROM to achieve root.
Hmm so I can simply install TWRP recovery and then flash the rom? I would be happy with that
I am confused as to how to install TWRP recovery without having root access. Could someone explain to me how to install it on my phone I have unlocked bootloader and that is it so far.

If you flash the SuperSU zip from your recovery you can have a rooted 1.91 Telus ROM. But why would you want to? Just install a stock-ish ROM like CleanROM, ViperXL, or Calkulin's One XL ROM, they're much better than stock.
I would if I knew how....

Well i have the Rogers One X and i was new into rooting too a month ago
just do the things they mentioned above and you are good
Okay let me explain once more, I installed goomanager but apparently it doesn't work unless your phone is rooted. I install the open recovery script and nothing seems to happen. I do not have TWRP on my phone. And I am not entirely sure as to how I am supposed to get it

Well I got up today proud of myself for having made the decision to go ahead and root my AT&T HOX.
I have a 32 gig 10 inch Toshiba Thrive that is rooted running ICS. Then I discover there are several HOX models....and several firmwares. With sweaty palms I swiped one finger down and shaking almost too much to hit ABOUT scrolled on to the bitter truth of 2.20.502.7...
This phone cannot be rooted.
Now I must try to gather myself and use the technique I am lacking the most in.... Patience.
So Fredfly, I'm sure someone here can tell you better than I but as far as I can judge if your bro's firmware is like or higher than mine just take a number and have a seat.

I'm in the same boat Jonathan... just got mine this week and it's 2.2. Does anyone know if there is anyone working on rooting 2.2?

What version of the HOX do you have? The AT&T version? If the firmware is below 2.20, then you have a plethora of methods you can use if you simply look in the dev section. If you're so inclined, you can use the guide that I wrote for the Telus version in my signature. The attached software should work for the AT&T as well as the Telus and Rogers versions as well.
If you got your one X from Rogers then you're fine. First go to htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader. Then flash TWRP recovery (evita version) . Then put the zip file for a custom rom into the sdcard, boot into TWRP recovery, and install it. Then do a factory reset from TWRP and reboot. As a first rom to try, I recommend CleanROM or VIPER XL.
Hey guys thanks for the advice. I looked at HTC dev and its exactly the same as the one s. I checked my brother's firmware this weekend and its 1.8... I will attempt to root and unlock this weekend. Also thanks for the Rom recommendations. I will probably put viper on his phone as I am familiar with the venom team and know they do great work.

Its not firmware 2.20 and above. Its only firmware 2.20 that is unrootable (at this time). Its all about AT&T. Every other carrier is allowing the bootloader to be unlocked via HTCDev.com.
There have been a few version numbers higher than 2.20 (2.23, 2.29, 2.33). AFAIK, they can all be bootloader unlocked.

[Q] Clarification for rooting Rogers HTC One X

I have a Rogers HTC One X. I've looked around here a bit to familiarize myself with how to root, unlock, and ROM my phone, and I think I'm just about ready. Unfortunately I can't figure out which set of instructions to follow. Most things seem to be directed at AT&T users with a specific hboot.
I am currently bootloader locked and have 2.14 hboot.
Just pointing me at the right thread would be great, thanks.
I wrote a guide in original android dev section. How to root etc non AT&T phone
