[Q] Telstra 1.89 XL can I load custom ROM - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have read a lot of posts, some say it is not possible some say it is.

Yes it's possible. Unlock your bootloader through htcdev.com then you can flash a recovery and then a rom.
Check out the telstra one XL thread in the general forum as I've posted the steps there a few times.

It is possible, I just flashed the Telstra 1.89 Rom to my AT&T One X, battery life is much better without constantly searching for LTE

It worked thanks.
After loading recovery, make sure you go straight into recovery and do a backup, or you wont have one.

You can definitely root the Rogers One X. You'll have to unlock the boot loader, root the phone, and then install TWRP recovery to flash a rom. There are many guides on how to do those. You'll only be able to install One X roms from this forum. The international One X roms won't work.

S-Off has not been achieved for this phone. But you can unlock the bootloader, root, and install custom ROMs.
You can only install custom ROMs in the AT&T, Rogers etc. forum. Our device is the Snapdragon S4 dual core version. The "international" version is a completely different chipset (Tegra3 quad core), and ROMs are not interchangeable. Not only will flashing a ROM for the "other" One X not work, it may also brick your phone.
My index is a good place to start looking for things: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
In particular, in the "ROOT" section you will find a link for the Rogers root method. The thread is old. So make sure you research that it works for your firmware version.
I don't personally have the Rogers One X, so hopefully somebody else will come on and give some more in-depth help with the bootloader unlock, root process.
Hey I have the Rogers HTC One x and all I did was unlock the bootloader via HTC Dev and then put a recovery (TWRP) via ADB commands. Then I was able to successfully flash a ROM.

Follow my guide (in my signature) for the Telus variant. The files attached in my guide is also applicable for the Rogers variant as well.
As redpoint mentioned, S-OFF is not yet possible but you can unlock your bootloader and then install a custom recovery to get a custom ROM with root permissions.
Make sure you write down your Rogers APN's before you do anything though. Not sure if Rogers needs two APNs like Telus does, but if you want to keep your default LTE/APN settings, write them down or back them up so you can restore them EXACTLY after you flash a new ROM.

I belive that Rogers only needs one and telus also only requires one APN.

Yea Rogers needs one APN, the LTE one. Which can be easily found by a simple google search.

My Telus HOX, works on one apn, however it needs a second one for LTE to work properly on Telus.
On Rogers, just had the one apn and it was or seemed fine to me.

Strange, I'm currently using one APN for my HOX on Telus for LTE. What is your second Apn address?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
I agree, strange.
Another Telus member come up with it.
So just make another apn, keep your original.
Then just add,
NAME: Telus ISP
APN:ISP.TELUS.COM
APN TYPE: DUN

Firmware bits?

When I had the HTC Evo 4g LTE and there was updates we were able to download all the firmware bits except the Hboot. Is there anything like this for the HTC One X or do I just flash the rom. I was told in the forum for the Evo that to fully utilize the fixes they offered we would have to download the firmware bits first then flash the rom. thanx
Ok so is my question so stupid that no one wants to answer or does no one really know the answer... I found radio upgrades and stuff like that but not the actual firmware bits... I also found the ruu but then I have to go through the whole unlocking thing again...

It's not a stupid question. I'm curious about this too.

I did some more research but couldn't find anything... It would be nice to be able to flash the bits but I don't know how much of that is needed. I remember freezer used to do it for the htc evo 4G lte so maybe I can ask him how and try to do it myself... It's worth a try

Never seen anything about firmware bits in the on htc one xl forums.
Bump.
I suppose you would have to upgrade the firmware by locking your bootloader, running a new ruu, then unlocking it. I wouldn't try it with anything later then 1.85 though.

one x wont accept updates.

I went to update my htc one x, and it says server unavailable and im on 4.0.3. Im stuck...
You are almost certainly better off by not doing any OTA updates from at&t.

If OP has any desire to root and flash custom ROMs, I agree. Just root and unlock bootloader now. Then update to whatever stock rooted or custom ROM you like.
If OP wants to stay stock, then get the RUU from the HTC website. RUU will wipe the phone, but its a cleaner install than OTA, and less likely to cause problems anyway.
I had the same problem. Download the rom from HTC .com connect to pc and install rom.

I really need some help with HTC One XL

I bought this phone outright, and I don't like the Telstra network so I put an Optus SIM in. Which works just fine, however I now have an issue which may or may not be related. I have unlocked my bootloader, and have obtained root. I cannot get s-off however, tried all the methods in this forum. And when I try to install a new Rom, such as cm10 and all nightly versions, venom viper, and all other Roms I have tried I cannot get passed the start up logo (or I just get a pure black screen). Yes I have waited and waited for extended periods of time but it won't load. No I'm not new to rooted phones, and have followed all insructions properly. Pls help me, I really hate all the Telstra bloatware on my phone.

you have to fastboot flash the boot.img when you are s-on
Only problem is I used that stupid one xl one click toolbox for my root. Which has completely stuffed me up.I should have done it the hard way like I did with my incredible s. I just got lazy. Don't suppose you know how to get s-off, without the one click fixes. Unfortunately they arnt working on this phone to acheive s-off

pretty sure you need supercid to s-off here is the s-off thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071
and how to get supercid on non att

Not necessarily. It depends on your hboot version I believe.
I've never had to flash the boot image and I haven't done s-off.
@OP - did you need to s-off for any specific reason? You don't need to do this to flash a custom ROM. It's not required unless you want to reove the tampered text from the boot loader.
It makes life easier to have s-off. Besides I have issues with not having full access to something I have bought outright....lol

I s-off'd my HOXL because it makes it much safer from my own boneheaded mistakes. If I had done something silly like flashing the OTA RUU then I wouldn't be completely screwed.

[Q] ROM for hboot 1.14

Can someone list 1 good ROM with a boot.img file what will work with an ATT HTC One X with hboot version 1.14. I have looked everywhere and every page just points you to more pages with several ROMS, most of which won't work with my hboot version. Can I get just 1 direct link to 1 good ROM that will work.
My phone version is 2.20.502.7. I have to add that I can ONLY access bootlader since my phone won't start because I think there is no operating system installed.
Thanks
They all work. You just need to learn how to use fastboot to flash the boot.img.
ViperXL is designed to install boot.img via AROMA. But it doesn't always work, and some users have had to do it via adb. So if you are looking for a ROM guaranteed to work with hboot 1.14 for those that can't figure out how to manually flash boot.img. . . there are none.
Here is a Link , I'd do some reading up and make sure you know what you are doing so you don't brick your phone if you haven't already as your previous post you were trying to install wrong rom.

I remember I had to learn the hard way...boot looping (well not really that hard). Anywho, while you are in the those threads, I suggest looking for facepalm s-off...then again, if you are not understanding fastboot, then s-off is not for you. By the way, I tested plenty of roms, and I am running 1.14 right now
Thanks guys. I fixed the issue with my phone where I had to fix my corrupted sd card first, and then I could install a ROM that was compatible with my phone.
And Redpoint73, not all HTC One X roms work with all HTC One X phones. If they did, this thread would not have been made in the first place.

And what roms don't run on these phones? Only one x roms I know that aren't compatible are for the international version.... Different hardware.
Hboot don't make a bit of difference o Rom install.. someone needs to learn a little more before assuming that he is correct

Any ROM on here and here will work.
Obviously ROMs meant for a completely different device (which the quad core One X is) will not work.
I didn't bother to type "any ROM meant for our hardware (EVITA) will work" because I assumed that you were smart enough to know what I meant, without me having to go into unnecessary detail.
Where can I download this Any Rom? Is it a mixture of roms? JK

You probably shouldn't be flashing anything, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
