a700 store warranty does it worth it? - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

my two weeks since I bought the tab are coming up. 2 years warranty at futuershop $100 should i get it? what is acer warranty?
thanks

Do you have renters insurance? If not, get it. is way cheap. Then add a stand alone contents policy to it to cover property away from the home. Then if anything goes wrong they send check for actual replacement cost so can go get brand new instead of refurbished. Plus, for roughly the amount you pay for insurance on device, everything in your home is covered too. Takes a bit longer to get check than carrier/place of purchase, but worth it.
And it covers all damages not just manufacture defect

I'm in Canada, don't think "renters insurance" exists here.

How long is the extra warranty if you don't pay extra?
1 year is usually enough. We'll probably be at Tegra 5 by then anyway. lol.

Squaretrade Warranty for Nexus One

Just as a consideration, I thought I'd throw this out there. I was mildly concerned when I ordered a Nexus about the lack of Asurion insurance on T-Mobile. Checked with Squaretrade, since I have used them on other electronics purchases, and was very pleased to find they have a specific plan for the Nexus One. For $115 (special atm) you get a full 2 yr replacement or repair warranty for a one time premium with an at need $50 deductible. Normal failures like battery failure are not subject to deductible. Only con is they don't cover loss, you have to be able to send them back something broken. Being as I was paying about $8 a month for insurance on my G1 before, with a $150 deductible, a little quick math shows an amazing difference. My experiences with Squaretrade in the past have been wonderful, and I would recommend giving them a look.
http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/nexusone-landing?ccode=bs_war_quote
t-mobile gave me insurance through Asurion....
This is old news. Tmobile does cover the nexus one. Use search.
Dose it cover if I unlock the boot loader? I know Google (HTC) voids the warranty the second you do that. I want to be able to install Cyanogen on my Nexus One without the worry of not having a warranty. I have the G1 now and have had it for about a year now and I havent had any problems with it, but I've heard of people's N1's on at&t the screen is messed up look here.

no it dont cover unlocked bootloader. it covers electrical, lost or stolen. worst comes to worst you just file stolen thru your insurance and buy a new one from them for $130 bucks. or should i say refurbished not new.
Lol. Well when I bought mine the T-mobile reps I talked to didn't really know what a Nexus One even was. I was however told that insurance through them was unavailable to me because the phone was sold through Google. Bad information or miscommunication is irrelevant, the SquareTrade Warranty is a far cheaper way to go. Though it doesn't cover loss, I spoke to them before buying it and was told in clear language that any claim due to unit damage from dropping, water, etc. was covered regardless of bootloader being unlocked. This would only be an issue with them if there was no physical damage to the unit. I'm not worried about bricking it, I'm worried about taking it with me when I go drinking. lol. Things tend to get run over.
It's also be covered in other threads that you can insure the phone through a "personal items" policy with your regular (auto) insurance provider. I have mine through State Farm. It's $30 a year with no deductible and they could give a flip if it's rooted or not. You just call them up and say my stuffs broken/lost and they send you a check to replace your phone. So, SquareTrade isn't the way to go either.

Any idea if you can purchase that type of insurance from State Farm without having another policy with them?

To clarify:
The Assurian policy doesn't cover unlocked bootloaders, only defect, theft and loss.
The Squaretrade policy (at least the one I bought for my N1) covers defect and accidental damage, and is agnostic to bootloader status (meaning they don't care if you unlock it).

Not 100% sure, but I think you can because my policy is not tied to any of my other policies. It's a standalone and the reasoning for it is, it you need to use it, it won't affect your regular insurance rates
If you have auto insurance, you should be able to get coverage through them. You might get better rates by having an existing policy too.
Just give any State Farm rep a call to find out and let us know what they tell you if you don't mind.

Helpful. I was originally told by the T-mo rep that Asurion wouldn't cover me, but I ordered on release day. lol. As for theft or loss, not possible. I will stick with Squaretrade and hope I never have to use it.
I'll cave in. Since I spent $529 for this phone, spending an additional $120 couldn't hurt to protect against damages. If I drop it and the screen cracks, they replace it reguardless correct? I just had a bad luck day, had phone in my basketball shorts with a clear hard case on it, while playing it fell out. Then when I got out of my car I forgot my phone was on my lap so down it goes again with the case. There are scratch marks on the bottom and top of the phone but doesn't bother me. It worries me that in the near future I might actually drop it by accident and it will be damaged. The 3rd time I dropped it, was when I went to put it in my newly purchased dock. So I've finished my bad luck for the day (hopefully)
*wonders why people will spend MORE for a LESSER insurance policy.

[Q] Why am I responsible for shipping charges for Dust under screen repair??

A decent amount of dust has showed up in a spot about 1/2 inch from the very top at the edge top right corner of the screen. Since I purchased the phone at Walmart they said talk to TMO or HTC. I called TMO and they told me dust under the screen doesn't seem to qualify as "manufacture defects" so they wont exchange it for me there, they said call HTC. I call HTC and they fill me in on all the details associated with the repair process etc.. My question is this: why am I responsible for shipping charges on a manufacture defect? On top of that, if they don't deem unwarrantable then I am charged a $39 or less triage fee.... Why am I also gonna be out of a phone for the next 6-10 days without compensation?
I just don't understand the logic behind this. Anyone have any advice, or explanation?
Thanks,
Joseph

No dust under my screen I'm sure shipping will not cost much...be sure to get INSURANCE. Have you tried simply exchanging the device for another one at Walmart?

I am sure shipping wont be costly, its just I don't see how or why I should have to pay for it. And Walmart after 15 days from purchase wont touch it, or so they are telling me?
If I go in and complain, while still being respectful or course, do you think Walmart or TMO will exchange it?

I meant shipping insurance just in case USPS/FEDEX/UPS loses the package. I live in Charlotte, NC and there are a bunch of Walmart's here. I would clean up the phone really good and try to return it even if it's for store credit and then drive to another Walmart and purchase a new Sensation with the store credit. Did you buy it full retail price or did you do a contract? If you did a contract then you are out of luck with store credit because it wouldn't be enough to purchase a new phone. Otherwise you could call TMO and ask for a warranty exchange and tell them the phone won't power on. They will ship you a new unit and you would just mail back the current unit. I have done a warranty exchange a million times.
Yeah I realized what you meant by insurance after I responded. I bought it on contract, and its past Walmart's 14-day return policy so they might not take to that so much lol. I have done a few in the past with TMO over the phone without any problems and a few in-store as well, as I have always purchased them through the store. I just might have to try TMO over the phone again and get them to send me one like you suggested. Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it.

That's the best way to get them to respond quick TELL THEM THE DEVICE WON'T POWER ON. They will then ask you to verify that the sticker under the battery is still white and then they will ship you a phone. Make sure you call from a phone different from your Sensation i.e a land line LOL and you will be ok.
That's weird. When the Nexus One's had issues with dust getting under the screen the problem was fixed for free assuming you hadn't rooted the device.
I know I personally had a rooted device get dust, cost 100 if I recall to have it fixed. Happened again in a week and they didn't make me pay for shipping or anything to send it back again.

[Q] Galaxy Note Glass repair

Hi
I bought my galaxy note 10.1 last week Monday and on Saturday I dropped it and the screen cracked. :crying It still works as before, so I'm guessing only the glass is broken? I have received a quote for the repair, It's about R3300 ($330) I reckon the price is too high.
Anyone know where I can get cheap repairs or get parts?
I want to find also the back grey cover as mine is corrupted

That's really high, almost as much as a new tablet. Have you thought of going the insurance route?
You could probably buy a warranty on squaretrade, wait the time period before filing a claim (30 days?) and get it for like 100-150 less than that price wise.

I'll admit, I am not familiar with the TOS with squaretrade, but that seems a little dishonest if the contract says the device must first be undamaged.

Nexus 4 Insurance

So where do I get an insurance for my coming Nexus 4. I;m kinda skeptical about the strength of the phone and need a backup is something happens.
Only from Shop
If you bought it from a third-party store, you'll have warranty from the shop.
If bought online, no insurance. Just buy a case, and don't damage it, it really isn't that hard if you take care of it and not throw it everywhere.

SquareTrade but you will end up paying for the device in about 2 years. If you feel you might break it in that time go right ahead. (Note fine print has a $99 deductible.)
Honestly I will just do my best not to break it, and if I do, just buy a new one.

Yeah problem with squaretrade is that with the upfront fee plus deductible, you're almost at the price of a new phone. This probably goes for any insurance on this phone since it's relatively inexpensive.
Would like to add that square trade will have a 40% off sale for black Friday. See their Facebook page to sign up. Makes it a more reasonable price. Now if only in can get a hold of a nexus 4 lol
If you buy from Google, you don't need a insurance. Just be careful of accidental damage which can be prevented if you pay attention.

Ohh thanks for the info. The website states $7/mo or $125 for 2 years. The only difference between the two is paying up front or monthly right (aside from the discount)? Or are you able to cancel at any time, say after a year? I'm contemplating on whether it's a good deal since there is a $100 deductible (wil there be tax added on?) and the value of the phone will go down overtime as well. But with the 40% black fri deal, I would probably get it .
Also... this only covers damage and not lost/stolen phones like Tmobile insurance right..?

Well I know for the lump sum one that if you cancel you get a prorated refund. I haven't found anything saying that you can't cancel the monthly plan but I would contact them to be sure.
The deductible shouldn't have any tax added. And yes it does not cover lost/stolen phones.
Usually I'm very careful with my phones but have dropped them from time to time. I did own an iPhone 4 for only 6 months though so still not sure about the longetivity of an all glass phone.hence contemplating square trade. But with the 40% off I would be looking at 175 if I do file a claim.
Another option I saw a fellow xda recommend is going threw werth Ave group. Its an actual insurance company(think auto, home, etc) they have a 50 deduct and covers theft. But know nothing about them
Would these insurance policies cover if the micro USB charging port on the phone gets messed up? it happen on my sprint OG Evo4G, the USB got completely separated from the board itself... (I have no clue how that could happen) and i had to go through my insurance to get it taken care of, (and shell out $100 for a replacement)
But how about if by accident the phone get bricked or something software related? Or if they battery doesn't charge good anymore and it needs to be replace?
If you bought it through T-Mobile, they have a $5 per month insurance policy ($20 deductible) for accidental damage. They also have an $8 per month policy (no deductible) that covers damage and theft. Beats the SquareTrade, even with the discount. I understand that most people probably got it through the Play Store but hope that helps anyone thinking of getting it through T-Mobile.
I personally got the $8 plan. I'll probably either cancel the plan or downgrade it to the $5 after I get a case and some screen covers.
I have a Citi Forward Visa card, for free (no annual fee either) you get $250 of cell phone insurance ($50 deductible). I just filed a claim on my Galaxy Nexus after the screen cracked when I dropped it. Seems pretty straightforward and can't beat the price. It covers breakage & theft.

I thought I read somewhere that it was supposed to have a one year warranty, but when I added my phone to the Lenovo page, it claimed I had no warranty. I bought my phone from Lowes (online). The Lenovo phone rep claimed it was a glitch because their system isn't set up for phones, but they also couldn't look up my warranty to tell me how long it really was, so I'm not sure what to believe.
Square trade but it's a one time thing also make sure to get it right after getting the phone

I bought a square trade warranty for drops and spills, which also covers mechanical issues (if that's the right word), but I read somewhere our P2P has a 1 year manufacturers warranty, since it's sold in the states. According to Lenovo US Phab 2 Pro site http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/smartphones/phab-series/phab2-pro/ there is a warranty, but apparently you have to contact them for specifics.

There is a SquareTrade warranty with Drops and Spills... I couldn't get any kind of warranty for my Chinese Huawei Mediapad X2... SquareTrade said nope... They said only USA releases... I am thinking that I will get the SquareTrade with Drops and Spills. Something like a $99 deductible and maybe $150 a year... You need to have a receipt from a good USA retailer. I bought my Note 3 NEW on ebay a year or so after it was first released... SquareTrade would only give me a mechanical warranty... I bought my nephew a tablet that was manufactured with an inherent problem with the charging port. I got a 3-year Drops & Spills warranty on it. We are now on the THIRD brand - new tablet SquareTrade has sent us!!! The charging port goes bad and they apparently cannot fix it. I had no deductible and no shipping charges to or from! The only thing is that the tablet is no longer available and it took a LOOOONG time to get this last new one... I am going to demand money instead of a new tablet if it happens again!!!
