The symptoms: SOMETIMES during incoming phonecalls Raphael rings (plays sound) but when I pick up the call, suddenly the phone sort of "mutes itself". I can't hear the person talking, nor can they hear me, even if I hang up and try later. The only thing that helps is a soft reset.
It's difficult to count the occurence, but I'd say like once a day at least.
I have already tried Hard reset, the phone is acting funny with only Advanced Config 3.1 and PHM RegEdit installed and a few tweaks applied (just Boost TFL3D performance tweaks and SMS conversation disabled)
I'm running stock 1.90.401.1 WWE FW, I have flashed a new radio version (1.02.25.31 Cingular) though.
Any advice/suggestion is appreciated.
Unless the new radio is giving you 3G, I'd go back to the stock ROM/radio combination and see if that works. I'm currently using the Cingular ROM/radio as well and I've never run into these problems, but that may be due to different hardware.
Thank you very much for a quick reply.
I'll try flashing the stock radio and will report back...
So, I flashed the original radio and it seemed for a while that the problem was gone.
Sadly, I must report that the problem is persistant as I had to restart my phone right now. When the "sound mute" thing happens I don't hear anything while answering phone calls (even though the phone rings normally!) and also when I try calling any number from my contacts including the operator hotline.
I really don't want to return the phone because I like it very much but having a phone which has problems with phone calls is kind of silly.
I'm at my wit's end.
Will anyone help me please?
I have a small update - today I was so desperate, that I tried flashing a custom ROM (namely DCS-TouchPro-v1.0 Hybrid) and the phone went bonkers right at the first incoming call. However, something IS different - now the phone is not silent but starts "buzzing" - making a long uninterruptible sound that lasts until reset.
Do you think I could have a HW problem?
I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!!!
I already posted a message in the "Issues" post of the Raphael Forum, but apparently no one had the same issue so far.
I did many hard resets (and installing gradually less things), it still bugs.
Currently the only tweak installed is the scorpion one to have 4 rows of icons in a menu.
My Raphael is behaving like this since 1 week. The bug occurs once or twice a day as well.
Anybody with some good IT experience has got an idea of what could be wrong with it?
Do you think it is more software related or hardware related?
Today it also crashed badly (grey doted screen and noway to make it work again by turning off. Had to soft reset).
PLEASE DO HELP US, because I'm using the phone for professional reasons and I'll really have to send it back if it keeps on bugging this badely!!!
I just sent a message to HTC Support.
Let's see what they say.
I'll post their response so those who have the same problem will know what to do.
Oh boy, I must say I'm glad not to be the only one with this problem, even though I never wish bad things to anyone.
While googling the problem, I found a few Diamond users with exactly the same symptoms, however most of them solved this by exchanging the device for a new one, so this won't help us much...
Me too, I was wondering if it was because I did something wrong with the phone...
But if I'm not the only it means that there is a problem with the phone itself.
Anyway I'll wait for the official answer from HTC...
I'll post their answer as soon as I receive it.
I'm actually quite curious what their answer will be.
But I wouldn't hold my breath for any miracle, so I'm preparing to send my phone to the service center to have them look at it...
Well.. that makes 3 of us then
at first i thought my symptoms are different, but Flippy confirmed they're identical.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2611523#post2611523
I have to correct myself - I wrote that when the thing happens, the phone still rings, which is not true. It rings just the first time before the problem occurs, but then it's dead silent.
So it seems our symptoms really are exactly the same.
Told ya AntiProxy!
So we are indeed only 3. It is still ok, it means that there is only a very small proportion of of Touch Pro that have this problem.
Now let's only wait HTC's answer...
spoke to HTC support today.
not that i expected them to figure it out or have a solution at hand, but i figured what the heck.. give it a shot.
their solution?
hard reset.. the guy would swear by his daughter that a hard reset will solve it.
i just thanked him and hung up.. *sigh*
don't you just hate it when techsupport's solution to everything is a reboot or reformat.. when you know that's not the solution anyway!
Well, I tried already doing the "Clear Storage" through the settings -> system panel, but it still has got the same problem.
I'll give them a call aswell to see if by any chance I can get on the phone 1 person who will be able to provide us a better technical advice
Hard reset won't help, I've already done it like dozen times and it makes no difference...
I tried flashing the phone to the stock 1.90.405.1 ROM and so far (a day and half) I have NOT encountered the problem. It is too early to start hoping, but I wanted to let you know - if you don't mind flashing your phone, give it a try.
Zillator, can you keep us posted for like 1 week?
If in 1 week the phone doesn't present again that problem I'll flash it as well (I didn't want to flash it because I wasn't sure if it could void the warranty). If during 1 week you don't have the problem again it'll mean that out initial ROM was defective...
Thank you Zillator and please let us know. (by the way when I'll call them tomorrow I'll ask them if flashing the ROM to a newer stock version voids the warranty).

AntiProxy, it might be a bug in the ROM we have in our machines. That's why maybe flash it could be the solution. Nevertheless I'll ask about the warranty tomorrow when I call them and let's see how it goes to Zillator.
If his phone doesn't bug for 1 week, there might be a big probability that the problem came indeed from our ROMs.
Guys, don't worry, I WILL keep you updated. I know how much the problem bothers me, so if there's anything I can do to help you, I will definitely do it.
In the end, that's why we are here - to help each other...
AntiProxy: is your stock ROM 1.90.405.1 WWE? Because mine was different (1.90.401.1 WWE) and I had the problem. Maybe Flippy_TK is right and the problem only exists in the 401 ROM.
I'll continue testing and we'll see...
I have a HTC sensation (non branded european version) for about 5 months now, and lately its been crashing constantly, it just goes black and is completely turned off.
Most of the time this happens when its in my pocket.
I'm running the original rom, its not rooted, and i did a factory reset last week.
The problem was gone for a couple of days, but its back again.
I assume its an app that's causing it to crash, but i can't figure out what app.
I'm not sure because it seems that everytime it crashes and i restart it, a program that uses the internet has an update. For example whatsapp, twitter, wordfeud etc.
I tried disabeling wifi, that didn't help. I disabled the mobile network now to see if its internet related, but its not an option to keep that disabled ofcourse.
I removed a couple of apps, but that didn't solve the problem.
Hope someone can help.
If a phone reboots...its typically software related
If it shuts all the way off...its usually battery related.
Call HTC about them sending a replacement battery. Tell them Tmobile told you to call them and you need it for troubleshooting testing.

I can't help, however can report that I have similar issues.
Though I get crashes as well during normal operation such as:
- getting a phone call
- opening up Google Maps (or any GPS app)
- receiving SMS messages
- starting the camera
And all with stock software.
I have a same problem. I cant figure it out. When i turn on my phone battery is around %6 . but normally its around %70. When i restart again it turns normal %70. is it same on your device ?
thnx for the replies! I indeed have weird and incorrect readouts from the battery after restarting, and it doesn´t crash when on the charger.
I realy hope its the battery, i´l call HTC right away to see if they can send me a replacement battery.

Hey... I am facing exactly the same issue. Replacing the battery fixed it or not?
Same here. I also noticed that if I changed my wallpaper, it reverts back to the default phase beam wallpaper on the next boot.
Updating to this firmware
DOWNLOAD 3.32.531.14 710RD (TMO ONLY [THX GROGG88]): http://goo.gl/JCWEO
MD5: 79EDF95337826DF73083E227DB8DE7C3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 seemed to fix it for me.
It probably shouldn't have, because the firmware is supposed to be the same as previous except for the radio.
Maybe it'll work for you guys.
Had the same problem, it shutsdown when receiving phone calls.... Like the previous post said it must be battery problem.. i did this fix and my phone has not shut down randomly.. this fix will tighten the battery contact with the terminals...try it first, Its a simple fix

Had this same problem on stock sensation . Once I rooted and installed custom rom the problem went Away! Never to return.
I truly believe and its been proven that custom Roms are MORE stable than stock. After installation of the custom rom , the issue of restarting NEVER RETURNED! Not a problem anymore . It's a software issue. It can be fixed with different software . It's a known issue.

I rooted since warrenty is over, I had the problem on stock rom, hungarian t mobile one, and now the problem starts to come back on a custom rom also, but not form the first day, it must be something related to software... i have two batteries and it did not fix the issue, i dont think the battery is the problem, one is original the other (i mostly use) is an anker battery... quite cool since longer standby...
how can i debug and read logs or dumps about the error?
scenarios when my phone shuts off:
- receiving a call after ringing once or twice (not always)
- during talking on the phone
- when i call someone after ringing once or twice (not always)
- starting camera and using it to make a picture in the moment of flash
- sometimes just when its in my pocket, later i pick it out and wonder its again turned off: D´OH!
most stable workaround which lasts usually half a day (remove battery)
have you any ideas how I can read dumps or logs?
thanks

it's only a my problem. nobody that has flashed the viper rom has this problem....
has the phone been exposed to any kind of moisture? sweat? rain? anything? i run into this all the time at my job. 9 times out of 10 it's a small amount of corrosion built up on the connection to the motherboard. but it could also be a factory defect that has just recently surfaced and even though it's rooted, since it is a hardware issue (most likely) htc will still warranty it

if you have any experience with hardware repairs on cell phones, you could attempt to disassemble the phone and check the connections for corrosion, damage, etc. if you do, post a picture of the motherboard and a close up of the vibrate connections

no no no. i don't have any experience in disassemble the phone... but the strange thing is that I turned off my phone and it worked, when I turned on no longer worked.
Try flashing a custom kernel. It sounds like it might be software related

Hi there!
I just figured out that in "WCDMA Preffered" mode, in call time signal strength reach 16-17 asu makeing screen go crazy, than I simply set "WCDMA Only" and signal strength has stabilized with 12-13 asu or less in call time. The issue dissapear..
You can set it up eighter entering "Test menu" (*#*#3424#*#*) or in "Settings - Mobile Data - Network Mode - (WCDMA Only)
NOTE: The setting persist after reset so you don't need to reapply it every time.
Later edit: My test was made in a high signal area from my carrier. Now I'm testing in a lower signal strenght area (neutral zone) and my asu is 6-7 and this is great.
Enjoy your HTC One S
Soo far the issue gone. Keep this up (vote and say thx)
Hi again, after 3 days testing my theory the issue seems to completely gone. I reactivate long press home button eveything is normal.
Ohh.. just a little thing forgot to mention that doing this you lost 2 lines of signal. No more helicopter but -2 lines cover and probably this ain't so helpfull those with allready low cover in some areas. BUT this seems to be the only way to get rid of this issue.
My final decision!
Edit: Please pin my topic!

I have tried that but it resets to the default setting when you restart the phone.
EDIT: Seems to stay at that setting now. Will see how it goes.

This issue manifest most often durring calls when gsm signal interact with capacitive sensor. So you can test it very simple by makeing a call even to your free carrier number, put on speaker and tri to browse the web durring call or just play with the menu.. open / close apps..
Up topic
Its 9 days for me since the issue gives no signs comming back.
UP topic , Please pin my topic!

The problem is only repressed... when you are in an area without WCDMA/UMTS your phone is dead...
Indeed... I sayd before..on 31 jan but at last is an improvement when no one comes with any solutions, I did..
Since I've updated to official update 3.19.401.102 the problem seems to of gone.
I have switched back to gsm/wcdma auto with no problems so far.

My One S is not rooted yet and as every one knows HTC didn't update nothing for us. Before knowing about this issue i though my phone have some problems and i need to go to a service or something.. after i heard about the issue.. i was thinking.. mabe HTC will develop some update, but now that i realize that HTC will never do such a thing i was looking for something to stop the issue without doing any sofware changes.
Please keep me up to date about your ROM and if the issue is not comming back, i'll think about a software change..
As a fact you can give us some fresh links with your ROM
Best regards,
Andrew

Helicopter still happens with the update but not as much.
Hi every one!
I did managed to Unlock / Root / S-OFF my HTC One S, i had some issues with the CWM untill i got a good recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-villec2.img but i still not receive any update from HTC..
Finally the issue is continue to manifest so.. the only thing we can do at this moment is switching to "WCDMA Only" as i sayd before.
This is a hardware issue that i read about .. there are 2 HTC One S models (probably motherboard series) and one of them has this issue.. so do what i did and stop searching for answers, this is the only way without risking of bricking your device or void your warranty searching for a better solution.
Enjoy it as it is or.. buy a new one if you can't live with it the setting !
Could a software update not solve the problem? I thought htc knew about the issue.
If you look at this link it seems htc know about the issue

Yea HTC know about it but it doesen't do nothing .. coz they don't have nothing to do.. you think will HTC knock on your dor .. and say "hi, this is your new phone" or "helo, please let me change your phone board" this will never happend.. probably they want you to walk over this and buy the new brand. its commercial s**t

Thanks for your reply,
Unfortunately the phone cant be returned because the phone was purchased elsewhere and there isn't a Motorola center from the country im from. Also this happens only when the phone goes to standby.I have to restart the phone again to make it work. Can you be certain that this is a hardware issue and pls do let me know how did you confirmed that this is a hardware fault.

I'm not saying it's hw fault but you can check it by reflashing stock rom using this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3187750
it will restore your sw to factory state and if the problem still exists it'll be hw fault
