You need a custom rom or a custom kernel at least, and then you can install setcpu or system tuner or other utilities to set CPU speed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Advantages: the max freq of the CPU is forced to be higher than "stock". You will probably never use this unless you do very much gaming on your phone.
Disadvantages: it can lead to less battery life and can potentially damage the CPU if you OC too much. For the Skyrocket a safe OC is around 1.728 Ghz. Don't undervolt if you overclock. That makes for bad juju.
You will need a custom ROM such as AOKP with a kernel that supports overclocking, which most custom ROMs do anyway.
You can UV and OC at the same time its phone dependant I know I've done it as have others you need to experiment that's why I told him to read more because now you have posted bad info

I've done it too. It's very good info, and it is a widely accepted and known fact that undervolting while underclocking frequently leads to a great deal of instability, especially on Jellybean AOKP. Surely you know that as well as anyone on this forum. I swear sometimes you have absolute flashes of brilliance and other times you talk out of your a$$ like you've never even used an Android phone before.
I don't have instability at all I'm on paranoid again its dependant so you can't say it is bad juju its all opinion

Easy to flash and fast too. Clean install got a 2200 Quadrant score. Restored all of my apps and settings and got an 1800. Not too bad.

Are you running it at 1200 or 1000? I get 2400+ most of the time when overclocked and at least 2000 when not, with all my apps installed. How do those scores compare to what you were getting on other roms? perhaps your cpu is just a little slower.
this rom scales 1.2ghz to 400mhz.
scheduler is set on "deadline".
vm heap is 56m.
deadline scheduler may affect benchmarks and ui interaction a little bit.

Oh, probably should clarify.
I set SetCPU on 1000 max and 100 min on conservative for the 1800 score. Fresh install, no SetCPU for the 2200. On other ROMs, I dunno. I'm more for battery life than high(er) performance since my phone's pretty fast anyway.

So this phone has been out for a little less time then the SGSII and I haven't haven't seen many overclocks. Anyone?
You aren't looking hard enough. There's a kernel for cm7 and eaglesblood. Both are stable from what I read but aren't perfect. I'm runn the one for eaglesblood and the only thing that doesn't work is vibrate.

Wrong section
Don't be a douche, if you want more overclock kernels make one yourself, or let the people who know how to make them do it, on their own time.

Many of the custom ROMs seem to have some sort of governer with a min/max CPU set...
Does anyone know if the stock ROMs keeps the min/max CPU at 1000MHz?
Ready.......go!
G2X
Nvidia uses performance scaling which automatically scales between 1000/216 depending on use.
Please post in the correct section (General not Development). Thanks.

I thought the performance governor just scaled the cpu to its highest at all times. At least that's how it worked with setcpu and my g2

Do i need to drop down to a 2.2 rom and use bali kernel so i can oc?...i just thought we had better roms and kernels for 2.3.6

but u could use uot kitchen and retheme the rom if u so desire

we are going some a bit off-topic here.
If you got what you opened the thread for please add [SOLVED] in the OP title
otherwise please be more specific what you are missing

I'm on octane 3.0 (bloat free) using bhundvens latest kernel and don't lag. I don't play dungeon hunters, but I do play a few serious games.
I'm undervolted and overclocked at 1.2.

It's called tegrak overclock. It's a paid app in the market and it doesn't require for the kernel to be "overclockable."

Ill decide if my thread has gone off topic.....as far as im concerned it had not.....wanting to beta test kernels inwhich has alot to do with lag or the the lack of is not vearing off topic i dont feel i need to be policed....
I feel ive been around long enough to know and understand the xda rules and guidelines inwhich they would like us to follow.
But thank you for your opinion and please dont take me back off topic again ;-)

What's the deal with this kernel?
I feel like all the AOSP ROMs have taken like 3 steps back while trying to incorporate this new kernel compatibility. I have not experienced, nor seen/heard anything that has shown this kernel to be better in any way.
Can someone please explain what the benefits are of this kernel, and its need to exist? I know the are many other people with a similar question. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm nothing a average user will notice just like there is no real difference between dual core and quad core that a average user would notice.

Thanks! Good link - I'm definitely not tech savvy enough to understand that, but I can tell it is a large change (and hopefully a positive one).
