I'm thinking of building a ROM of sorts, and I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in it.
The ROM would basically be what i run on a daily basis. A combination of a ROM and Kernel that work well together, with my own tweaks, changes, and settings baked right into it.
The idea would be that you would flash the rom, then forget you ever did. No changing frequency, no profiles, no Undervolting, no flashing other kernels, just the ROM and nothing else needed. (and I'd discourage trying it)
I would change UV settings to work on most phones, and a small overclock (most likely a 1.1 or 1.2Ghz), as well a stock Frequency/Voltage version. and each version would be stable enough to use as a daily driver.
It would most likely be a 'Flavor of the week' kind of thing, and I'll most likely change the base rom/kernel somewhat frequently (like once a month at most) to what I'm using that's stable.
So, does this sound good to anyone, or am i building for a demographic that's not there?
I would use it if u make it for the photon

sounds like a great idea... in this trend of rapidly developing roms, a stable rom with recent source changes for a change is great to fallback to.
Do you have any rom development experience? where would you rate your skill level at?

Sounds like a really good idea, I myself sometimes get sick of constantly flashing & re- setting up my phone the way I like it, a good long term rom with everything would be awesome. How bout using the new 2.3.4 stock as a base?

ive been programming in C/java for about 4 years now, (2nd year programming student currently) and ive been building my personal roms from source for about 6 months, and in the past few months ive started actively changing source code, integrating parts from some kernels and ROMs, and adding things to system apps (like voltage control and frequency mod in the settings.apk)
however, on the other hand, i do have fairly large gaps in my knowledge. i only barely know how to use github, and i haven't really dealt with the Linux/android kernel much before this.
honestly, on a scale from 1-10 (1=android user, 10= developer like Whitehawkx/Morfic) id say about 7.

Wow, i don't even rate myself that high, lol. I say go for it, the more devs we got the better.

i feel im a very competent programmer, but there are thing i am pretty much oblivious too. outside of android I've got a good portfolio of programs and source, but when it comes to android, I'm still learning. (and i definitely feel your more knowledgeable than me)
Do it one more person helping the community isn't a bad thing. You're obviously knowledgeable enough. Once you start playing with it and have a base crowd that likes what you do you'll get further involved and make a great rom in my eyes. You're willing to help everyone and give a very insightful solution to most and all types of questions.

I agree with the above, but be weary of the people who destroy devs by all the nagging and begging.
Anticipating the arrival of this ROM!
I would do it. If you can base it off of stock with some cm7 improvements that would be cool, like with weapon g2x. I was using weapon till I switched to HFP.

I will always support you, you always have long detailed responses to everyones questions and if anyone complains about your rom, let me know we will have a flame war. We don't want to lose a dev. Also I'm sure the other devs I'll help you out if you have any questions because they are all amazing people IMO. Go for it! Even if no one uses it, its a learning experience for you. You have nothing to lose

it will be ICS, and im still not sure about what ROM and Kernel i will base it off of (i still want to get permission from the original devs first).
keep a lookout for it coming soon(ish)!
ive also asked a mod to lock this (i dont want a hype machine happening that i cant live up to!)
locked as requested!

Such a broad question dude it truly depends on what your phone likes best a well as you. As some may prefer this ROM others may prefer another ROM.
Also depends on ROM,Kernel combo as well try em all and see what's best to your desires.

this. there's no way to answer this question. each phone/user are different. there are far too many options for rom/kernel combinations, not to mention all the variable settings to say which is best.

I can't believe how many threads like this there are....there have to be at least 50 with this exact same topic..
Running provision with matrix cfs 22......screen on 800/200 lazy....screen off governor wheatley....idle on great battery life and performance...

Like has been said, there are many options. Probably the most popular is cyanogenmod, but I've been hooked on Paranoid Android for awhile (which is based on CM). My advice for a beginner is to spend time in the forums and narrow it down to the popular ones. Subscribe to a few and get into the discussions so you get to know the lingo and issues people are having with the ROMs. Try several out to get a feel of what they have to offer and the features you find you enjoy having.
Once you are familiar with the features you prefer, you can narrow down your perfect fit by reading the OP of a ROM (for what it offers) and a few of the posts from the latest update date (for stability and what to expect). I'd suggest only after this stage that you get into trying different kernels with your ROM. The kernel is like changing engines in your car...YMMV, and some will perform better than others on your specific device and ROM.
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know if there are any ROMs out there with something similar to the notification/quick-settings that will (possibly) be on 4.2, dual pulldown?? I thought I saw one, but can't remember which one, or where I saw it.

Why would you think any rom has this feature? It was just shown off today.

MIUI has it. Here's a shot of the 2.3 version... 4.1 looks very similar.

That is something ENTIRELY different.
I understand that it was just shown off today as a part of 4.2...... I also know that there has been some videos floating around that showed off an early build of this feature, and we have some amazing devs here, just thought someone might have cooked something similar into their ROM.....and yes, I did see one that did, just don't remember which one!!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
When the 4.2 source drops, then we'll start to see it integrated into AOSP roms. Until then... probably not going to happen.
So I have a cm9 rom I made for my own use and I have enjoyed it so much that I am thinking of releasing it for everyone else to use as well. It is a touchwiz 5 themed rom based on the cm9 unofficial release with the following goodies:
Speed and battery tweaks
Touchwiz 5 launcher
Touchwiz theme
Touchwiz widgets
S-Voice app
Google Now
All sgs3 system media
Sgs3 wallpapers
Xloud and beats mod
And much more that I probably forgot about........
As it states I am just wanting to see who would be interested in it as I dont want it to be a wasted effort. Also you guys are more then welcone to let me know what else you would like included or changed. Thanks in advanced for the support and im looking forward to see your guys opinions.

Sure, I'd try it. I liked Remics for that very reason, despite others hate of the touchwiz, I like the feel of it better than any other launcher out there. Remics has a random reboot problem though, so I'd like to try yours.
Yep I'd definitely give it a try.

I think the allshare app is just like wifi calling it is heavily dependant upon proprietary Samsung things that are built into the stock kernel and stock rom. Not saying its impossible but highly unlikely it will work on a custom rom that is not stock based.

I didn't find SVoice that usefull for the amount of space it takes up and uninstalled it on Remics.
If you're good with the Aroma installed, you can setup a customized install to choose what to install or not install. I like the ones that let you keep your kernel, modem, etc.
Hey guys
I want to start off by offering my immense gratitude to all the amazing devs who make this phone so amazing. I have a really noobish question. ::EDIT:: Sorry guys, I truly am a noob with phones. I asked the wrong question, I meant to ask why don't the 4.2.2 kernels have all the features of the other kernels, like overclocking, sweep2wake and that kind of stuff.

I want to start off by offering my immense gratitude to all the amazing devs who make this phone so amazing. I have a really noobish question. Why is there such a disparity between custom kernels like elemental x, for sense based roms, and custom kernels like rohans for aosp based roms?

Because they're designed for completely different bases. The AOSP kernels don't have any of the code required to run Sense elements.
Sorry, i should have been clearer in my op. I meant went do the sense based custom kernels have so many more features like overclocks, and sweep to wake and stuff like that. Is that stuff sense related? This is my first HTC phone, my last phone was the atrix 4g, very different.
The aosp kernels have those features also.

Well, i know Jacobs kernel has some of the features, but I've tried it but I remembering it having a bunch of issues, and rohan only has a test kernel that's worse (no offense rohan, your work is amazing) and I think those are the only 2.
Jacobs was rock solid for me. Never used rohans. I used vz linaro which is just missing s2w but was also rock solid and in fact my favourite in terms of performance.
