Defeated by WiFi issues - HTC Sensation

After over a month of problems with WiFi, I have finally gave in and called HTC to arrange repair
UPS are coming to collect my handset today and hopefully it can be repaired under warranty
I read that there was issues with the early batch of Sensations not being able to handle the upgrade to ICS - so I gave up with software solutions
I had to wipe and put it back to S-ON before installing the latest OTA stock update for O2 UK
Hopefully the guys doing the repairs will not notice that I have replaced the digitizer in the past and just hook me up with a new motherboard and ship it back to me
I have a year left on my contract so if they say the warranty is void Im gonna have to pay for the repairs or shell out for a new phone
If you look at my other posts you should be able to see everything I tried in my quest to resolve the WiFi disconnecting problem - best results were when I was on Bruce's CMX rom but Wifi only worked for 20mins or so then disconnected and went to turning on turning off loop

Some people have had success with WiFix app - personally it didn't help me as my region settings were ok
My problems were more related to WiFi losing connection to any of my networks after a short period and not scanning after it dropped off, it worked for up to an hour sometimes, giving me false hope then it just died and didnt work unless I performed a full wipe and fix permissions etc
Currently showing as under repair on htc site...fingers crossed this updates and I can get it back by the weekend :fingers-crossed:

fxed!!!
Hi! I fixed my wifi this weekend. Just remove the back lid and check if the antenna has a connection to the metal pins. They are located at the bottom below the battery.:fingers-crossed:

Thanks

ICS Wifi and Restart Issues

Yesterday, I upgraded htc sensation to ice cream sandwich. After upgrading, wifi worked for few seconds and after that it stopped working. It's showing disconnected and not scanning the Wifi Routers around. Secondly, after every restart, it's shows that android is upgrading and optimizing the applications.
I have HTC_Asia_WWE HTC_044 Sensation. Any of you guys faced this issue? have you managed to resolve this?
For WIFI you can use this application , i used it and it's working fine with me now
http://www.fardjad.com/android/wifix/
also i have the same problem when restarting the device, and i have a problem with cell broadcast every time i disable it , after restart it's enabled again

I have exactly the same symptom on my Sensation XE - like you Asian sourced, but operating in Qatar. Like you - I know I could root, but would prefer to keep my phone unrooted and stock for the time being.
Reading about the Wifi fix at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21406675 it could be that HTC have screwed up the Wifi settings where it reads the country code is Qatar. Be curious to see if this is a common problem for all Qatari HTC ICS upgraders. The other common problem with ICS and WiFi seems to be the WPA_supplicant.conf file getting corrupted.
Question - if you rip your SIM out, can you see any WiFi SSIDs, and connect to any? This should show if you've got a problem a or problem b - as the WiFi country code is set by the SIM card. have you logged a problem with HTC? The more problems logged might be evidence they have a bug, rather then just telling you to do a factory reset or reboot your router.....
I have an HTC__038 (SuperCID'd) which I bought in the Philippines. I'm on Qatar for holiday. I'm running Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.1.
It's not the router's fault guys and factory resetting it would be just bringing the pain of reconfiguring other devices in your network. My nieces have phones running Android 2.3 devices and they can connect to the Wifi properly. WiFix didn't work for me either.
The thing was, that 5sec that the phone was able to see the SSID, I was able to configure it with WPA2 and managed to have it saved but after that no SSID's were recognized by the phone. So having no Wifi, I just left the phone alone to empty battery since I was just staying home.
After charging fully and doing a cold boot, the phone could connect to the home wifi with no troubles. I rebooted and emptied/cold boot again just to make sure and it connects without a hitch now.
I don't exactly know how this is a solution but you guys could try it and test your mileage on it.
ON SOMETHING UNRELATED: All I'm getting around Doha is HSDPA. Have you guys managed to get HSPA or HSPA+?

I've ripped my SIM out and tried it without the SIM, without success.
I'll point to my previous post that the wifi fix applictaion implies that some system security settigns for WiFi are based upon the country of the SIM card.
If everyone in Qatar (where HTC have no official presence) has this issue, I suspect the issue above. I strongly recommend that anyone who has the issue log it via the htc website, and be quite specific about the scenario, country of us and source of the phone. Enough users reporting the same issue will set alarm bells ringing and maybe get some action.
With regard to the previous post - tired a cold boot with a fully chraged battery and conencting to my home WiFi network without success. No idea if Qtel support HSPA/+. How does one tell?
Got same problem with restarting and optimizing apps, didnt figured out how to get rid of it yet, another thing that bothers me are all of sudden shutdowns, the usual message pops up sayin my batery is low (usualy 15-20%) and then it turns off the phone completely

I too am in Qatar, though I bought my HTC Sensation unbranded in the UK. Just upgraded to ICS and I'm without wifi, why didn't this come up on google BEFORE I installed it?
I've been onto HTC online and they tell me they need me to post the phone back to UK (or SPain/Taiwan if I prefer) and they will fix it, but I will loose SMS and anything else I've not backed up and all my apps will be wiped.
I'm furious!
A quick update. I've just got back home and taken my QTEL sim card out and put a UK Three sim card in and I have full wireless functionality, which is great. However I can't use this to make my calls, but at least it gives a clue that might lead to a simple fix.
Thankfully I didn't do the factory reset as advised by the muppet at HTC.
---------- Post added at 01:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 AM ----------
I swapped back to Qtel and wifi worked for maybe 10 mins, then stopped again, swapped back to UK Three and wifi worked again.
But this infernal upgrading apps everytime it starts is a PITA too.

Out of curiosity - does WiFi work if you remove the Qtel SIM and reboot?
Have you told HTC the solution/issue? I think as a community we've done pretty much all the debugging we can do - clearly Qtel SIMS are causing some sort of interaction with WiFi (system security settings) as per the WiFi fix apk for rooted phones. Ive also heard people having issues in other smaller countries which do not have an official HTC presence.
For those who still have the issue - I'm going to try to revert back to gingerbread tonight. I'm still very much a noob - I just want a phone to work and don't want to tinker with it - but it would appear that if I download an RUU from filefactory and have the right release for your phone it'll install automagically. If it's the worng release and you haven't rooted your phone, it won't install - no harm done.
After update a ICS my wifi turn on when I press power button all the morning

Yes, I tried no sim card first and it didn't work. Oddly it's not working with the UK sim at the moment, though it was earlier this morning.
I emailed HTC last night so obviously I've not had a reply yet.
I spoke to HTC about reverting back and was told it's not possible.
On the plus side, I've reinstalled the drivers and I can now get online with the phone using the USB cable with internet pass through, but it's not an answer.

On 1 - There does seem to be a lag issue soemtimes on wifi packing it in. On my inital run on ICS I'd used my phone for 5-10 minutes before it lost wifi, then it's been consistently bad.
I got a reply from HTC today, worryingly the ticket is status "pending closed". He asked for baseband and kernel release. Knowing the way an IT developer thinks it's a case of looking at the bug report for 2 seconds and thinking "this guy has rooted his phone and that's caused the issue - let's prove it by getting baseband and kernel release". I reiterated to HTC that by my count there are 5 people from Qatar who've posted on this issue, as well as some other "minor" locations. On the upside - at least the developer/QA team have looked at the bug and asked at least one question. Just need to get someone in the developer/QA team who's heard of the issue multiple times to take notice.
With regard to reverting back - not possible through official channels. But if you find the right RUU you can revert back without being rooted, to an official release. Subject to time tonight - that's my plan. You need to find things like your CID and use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475 to translate it to the right release. Maybe use CID_getter (via market/play) and make sure you have the right SKU (I'm learning this on the fly!) and try and find the RUU at the filefactory link which is posted several times (I can't post it).
On the USB pass through - is there a special HTC driver? I couldn't get that working either!

For the USB passthrough I just went into HTC Sync on my laptop which I ever use and hit the update button and it installed the latest usb driver as part of it.
Another update:
I've just tried a Vodafone Qatar sim in the phone and that doesn't work with wifi either so it looks like a country issue rather than a provider issue.

Idle thought - I've had a thought that the issue might be character set related? I.E. Our phones are expecting one character set (in my case - the SEA language), and from the SIM it's picking up Qatar, running into an Arabic character somehow, and this is causing some sort of mis configuration on wireless.
I heard back from HTC again on their baseband/kernel question - I asked why the status was pending closed, they said it's part of the process they need to do when they go back to the user. They say to "kindly notice that HTC are working the issue".
As I'm the only one they're asking the questions from, do I revert back to gingerbread tonight and give up, or deal with the first world hardship of having a non smart smart phone in the hope I can help others?

Even I tried Vodafone sim and wifi wasn't working. Then I tried Indian Sim and bingo wifi was working. So I updated my ticket with HTC support team and their reply was standard one that we have forwarded your recent post to the team in head office. Man this is so frustrating.

Well I've spoken to HTC in the UK with a really nice guy there who didn't try to fob me off with the usual, reboot, hard reset etc etc
He listened to what I told him and admitted he has no idea what the issue is, they are going to report it and see what they can do, in the meantime he did suggest a factory reset would be worth a shot. I pointed out that if it is a fault with both Qtel AND voda that maybe they should stop the rollout in Qatar until they have tested it and fixed the issue.
I really don't want to have to reload all my apps and more importantly lose all the data stored in the apps so I'm off to find a backup.
If it's not working by Friday, I'm going to root the damn thing and flash a new ROM (even if it's 2.3) on it and sod the warranty.

I've done a factory reset very early on in this saga and it made no difference...
Edit - Someone in the ICS makes it to the middle East thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570818&page=2 says it'll be fixed this month, although I question how they can know this yet HTC are asking me for questions on the nature of the problem - I.E. still debugging. Lucky it's early in the month.

One s keeps restarting + call nois I guess

My wife's... I got it locally from a guy from Craigslist... he told me that it was a replacement phone from HTC ... it did have the original screen cover on it ... but came in a box that had a sleeve for the phone like ones that were repaired...
It is restarting randomly
I did a reset from settings ... and it didn't help.
That is besides the fact that there is noise.... like tfffffffffffffff during calls.
What would u do.. I have a contract with T-Mobile that I terminated effective from the 19th of the month I guess ...
Its not rooted or anything ... stock everything ... other than that ... its a sexy phone that misses the search button

i have random reboots sometimes for no reason. also i have crackling sounds when talking on the phone only when im using wifi calling. i have no clue why it does this. i bought mine brand new from tmobiles customer service. also i have had tmobile replace my phones i got from craigslist all the time. i just instant message them online through there website and ask them to see if my IMEI number is correct in the system because i am waiting for an ota update and i wont get it if its not correct in the system. they change the IMEI number to the one i give them, then they tell u to wait 2-4 hours for the system to update. i usually wait a few days. then if im having an issue i just call them and tell them my problems and usually if they cant fix it over the phone they send me out a new unit no questions asked. hope this helps
as mentioned, wait for OTA. although, not sure that solved noise.
i rooted and am running LeeDroids latest rom and all noise is gone--perfect--
Thanks a lot guys ... so its not only me with the noise and reboot problem...
I called technical service and they told me that the ota update should resolve the issue with restarting and that the voice is a network issue - I think that they are full of it ... anyways ... until the update comes to me I will probably not have their contract anymore !!! I terminated effective the 19th...
Thanks for the tips ... I just didn't want to root until I check if its a hardware issue or not ...
Have a wonderful day

rebooting switching from hsdpa to wifi randomly
Hi, I am having the same issue of reboots. However, this happens only when my phone switches from hsdpa to wifi, when I get back home. But not always.
I had this issue with all the stock roms and with leedroid 2.1 (awesome rom, by the way, recommended!).
I also installed the latest t-mobile radio zip file, which came out with the 1.84 update, although I am in italy. Radio seems to work properly.
In order to make sure it is a phone issue I temporarily changed my wifi router, from pirelli to sitecom, so far no reboots, but I need to wait few days to proove it.
I rang htc customer service, they said that even if my phone is only 2 months old my warranty now has gone down in the drain, as I unlocked the bootloader. They suggested to send the phone for repair, but I will not do this because: 1) I know the repair centre of htc in italy, it is not actually htc but a subcontractor which prooved to be highly incompetent when I had to repair my htc desire 2 years ago 2) it is clearly a software problem, which could be resolved by future updates.
The level of competence of the customer service is a total disaster, they can only say "reset your phone" or "send it to repair", disguting!!!
So for the moment this is the way it is, but I love this phone, is very cool and I will live with this issue I guess til is resolved by an update.
I also have a galaxy s2 which I haven't switched off for a month by now and never rebooted!!! On the top of it with the latest update to ics is awesome, user interface is as fluid as a river, this is the very last time I buy an htc, I promise.
If there is any progress please guys post it here or in the other threads related to this topic.
Ciao,
Franco

[Q] Galaxy R Motherboard replaced + Signal issue

Hi Folks,
This is my first post here. I bought my SGR in Dec 2011 and was facing the usual issues of no sound on headphone removal and WiFi disconnection. I went the service center two weeks back and they replaced the motherboard and these issues have stopped.
However, I am facing the below two issues now;
a. My SGR won't pick up Airtel signal inside some rooms. It shows no bars whereas all others sitting in the same room on Airtel have no such issue. When I had given my SGR for repair, I was using an old Nokia C3 and never had problems with it in the same rooms.
b. When I try to make calls, sometimes I get a call ended message even though the signal shows two-three bars. It works after multiple tries. When others try to reach me, they often get an unreachable and i realize this after I see their missed call message.
Has anyone else faced these problems? Any pointers will be appreciated.

buddy try ZLES6 rom - link given above.. & then flash Neorom2.1 rom..see you will never have these kinda problem.. if persist after flashing, go to SSC & ask for replacement...
Hmmm
@vasudevk03 @Kataria Thank You both for your responses. :good:
I am using rom and kernel which were (re?)installed after the latest motherboard change from the SSC folks themselves. It mentions something like 2.6.36.3-I9103XWKI5-CL57705 [email protected] #3
Have not tried to root and install another rom since I heard that it will void the warranty. With this phone giving so many issues, not sure when I will be required to take it back.
Not even running Tasker since it I need to root it.

Flashing anything on your mobile won't void your warranty only if you are careful & you know how to reset the counter but if you aren't confident about it don't do it.
Flashing ZSLE5 / 6 stock ROM will not increment the counter & won't void your warranty but just to be on the safer side before giving it to the service center flash the stock Indian 2.3.5 ROM back to your handset.
You can try to flash the stock ZSLE6 / XWLA4 stock ROMs & check if it resolves your issue.
It could also be network configuration related as another fellow member who is also on Airtel is facing the problem.
Hmmm
@cooleagle Thanks for the response. I will get on the rooting wagon in the near future since I have no idea on this front. < Learning mode on> Some threads on this forum will help, I guess this thread will help get me back to a stock rom before I give it for service again, if required.

Hi saikri,
Did u manage to solve the signal problem? I have observed this signa issue in my phone for the past couple of weeks. In rooms where I use to receive signal at full strength, now I barely see a bar, and many times the phone loses signal. I am on zsle6, rooted. Service provider is airtel.

S7 keeps freezing and restarting

Hi Guys /girls.
Just got an S7, brand new on O2 (UK). I usually root my phones but haven't touched this as it's quick enough and I don't want to play around with it until the warranty ends.
In the past few days the phone has been freezing, then it will turn off, sometimes restarting entering a bootloop. It will come back on for a minute or two, then repeats.
At the moment it is working following a forced restart but not sure if this will last. Has anyone else had these issues? Or does anyone know what it could be? Going to get it swapped anyway just to make sure but I can't understand the cause. Thanks in advance
Had the same issue this moth, send it to warranty it will only be worse over the days. Samsung replaced my mbo and now everything is ok
Getting worse.... Trying to get it sorted with O2 is an absolute joke, their customer service is disgusting. Been into two stores and on the phone to them twice and they're not simply swapping it for me.... I haven't even had the device three weeks

Nice one, good luck
New phone arrived. Definitely more responsive with a better battery life than the first one..
However it froze and restarted this morning....hoping it's a one off.

Are you using anything the same as with the last one, like a MicroSD card or headphones etc?
Anything that is common between the two phones?
Same app that might be doing it? Maybe a restore from a Google backup when you first boot up reinstalling a buggy app?
Did you upgrade firmware to the latest version? It might be a software bug.
Seems fine now cheers guys. Auto frmware updates (x2) were done last night....must have been a one off. Definitely won't be rooting this device like my older phones!

Question Iqoo 7 wifi hotspot error... motherboard issue??

Hello,
I own a 2 months old iqoo 7 (12/256gb),the issue i am facing is all of a sudden i cant use my wifi or hotspot feature as it wont turn on,upon re installing the os at service center,i was told the issue isnt with the device software but its with motherboard and wanted me to go ahead with the replacement of motherboard free of cost under warranty.
I denied because i think its not the motherboard issue,as i can use both wifi and hotspot seamlessly when i reboot in safe mode.
Somebody please guide me with the right course of action,i should follow to get this sorted.
Thanks.
I suspect there's nothing that you might be able to do in this case as nothing can be done from consumer's side without root and since the mobile has been reset and flashed again, that would point there is something wrong with some component and software compatibility.
I'd suggest to go for motherboard replacement if possible.

Thanks for the input,i would like to mention here that all of a sudden the problem vanished on its own,and i can use both wifi and hotspot seamlessly, all i did was reboot in safe mode and switch on my wifi then boot back in normal mode..after doing this for 2-3 days in a row,now i can use it normally.
No idea what went wrong and where and how did the problem resolve on its own..
