Why would you hope that happens? That's just letting apple have their way, so whenever they don't like another company, they can just get there products banned. If they don't like competition maybe they shouldn't be in a business.

This just goes to show that apple is afraid of any type of products that outshines their's.

I think this shows how low apple will go. I hope it happens for a short amount of time. And during that time I feel it will comeback and bite apple in the rear.

How do you know it's low? What if Samsung is truly stealing apples property? Doesn't matter how small it is if it's not theirs. I certainly hope this isn't the case but who knows? Samsung and apple are the only ones that know.

If I were samsung I would just stop selling them parts.

Then they'd be sued for breach of contract.

Apple is just suing everyone left and right these days.. smh.

over the years what has apple actually innovated on? samsung came out with a touchscreen phone before them..it's nott heir fault hipsters won't accept anything that isnt apple
android has had everything ios didnt way before ios..
wallpapers, voice search, freedom for the user(which ios users still don't have) and more... it's because apple is around, we don't have any competition...they're suing everyone that makes a better phone then them, and you're telling me without them theres no competition?

I am not a fan boy for either side.. In all honesty I like both mobile platforms. But I will be very upset if apple wins this trial.. Even though the galaxy S did look an awful lot like an iphone and the ui in the galaxy S looked like ios at first glance.. I just don't see how you can patent a rectangle or the only practical design . It's not right for apple to say that Samsung copied them when it's obvious that they both inspired each other.

here's some gather up of stuff i know
1. samsung already had a phone that looks like galaxy s/iphone pre-trial called the F700, the judge deliberately denied it as evidence because it came too late(they submitted it before the trial, how is it too late? if this was a murder investigation, a innocent man will be sentenced to 25years in prison because the evidence that he didn't do it came in too late)
2. we're looking at two rectangles

Kinda off topic but...I took my fam to Disneland and I guess I did not notice b4 since its been 4 years since the last time I was there and I didnt knew what a phone ROM was back then....anyways, seriously, about 90% of all the people there had iphones...yes 90%...and thats including all the nationalities u see there. It got me sick knowing the grip that Apple got on the average comsumer that doesn't have the slightest idea what a ROM is. Lets face it...wer just about 3% of the smartphone users out there. Im yet to know someone out there personally that has installed a new custom ROM in their Android device. They think Im just a ****ing nerd genius from another galaxy when I try to explain what I did to mine and my wife's phone. Apple devices have always been well advertised...in commercials, tv shows, and movies...compared to any other smartphone company...way way WAY b4 smartphones for the general population became avialable to the average person. I doubt Samsung (or any other smartphone maker) will ever be able to catch up to Apple. To the average person iphone will always be the one and only smartphone out there because thx to advertisement they have been told that.

todays government is different from 20 years ago unfortunately, they listen to the rich guys..look how megaupload got took down

The biggest companies in the US don't pay their taxes. They continuously move dollars overseas. They manufacture elsewhere. Their executives make $350000+ per week on the average. They are killing us. One of top 3 reasons why we are dying here in the US.

I can sum it up for you in one sentence.
The Samsung Galaxy S 3 is not locked down, and the HTC One X is.

I know two people who switched and didn't have one that was locked down. One is a developer and one did some theming.

many of the people at my work place own one.. and none of them even know whats xda.. so is being unlocked still the key to that success?

I have an S3 on my account, I got it for a buddy of mine. I've spent a good deal of time playing with it and can't see the appeal at all. It just isn't anywhere near as nice as the HOX. 2GB of RAM, that's it. Everything else about it sucks compared to the HOX. My 1GB is working just fine for me.

Bingo u hit the nail on the head. People complain about the lack of removable battery. Ummmmmmm maybe 10% of pple would actually carry a spare. IPhone doesn't remove battery and I'm sure we're all aware of how well that does. And as far as storage goes, yea it wouldn't hurt to atleast have 32gb. But I havent filled 16. So consider me happy.

H8rift. XsMagical. Scott. And others are more then enough reasons for me to never leave this phone. And Rohan has done amazing things with AOKP and he is still in highschool if I'm not mistaken. These guys make our phone what it is and we have to work around ATT and HTC security features. The Devs we have are a reason not to leave.

Then you should ask them. And couple people isn't everyone.
The main reason is: most users if they don't buy the iPhone they'll go for sammy because of the brand. You don't know much about a smartphone but you at least know they make good tv's, computers, refrigerators, you name it. Where else do you see the HTC logo? Many people didn't hear about it. So, obviously pick the Samsung instead.

What is the big deal about which smartphone you use? I would bet that most people on XDA are pretty well clued up about phone tech and so, money permitting, they will make an informed purchase, buying the phone that suits them best.
I own the SGS3 and yeah, I think it is top notch handset, but that doesn't mean I diss other handsets. I like to think I'm more evolved than that (though some of my pals would dispute that :laugh. If someone comes to me for smartphone buying advice, I will try my best to give an informed opinion based on my experience and their tech knowledge and needs...and quite often I'd send them down the iPhone route, not because I think it is a better phone (though Apple, whether you like it or not, make fantastic hardware, just a shame about the company ethos), but because it is probably the best phone for them.
Most on this particular thread will probably own an HTC...again good top noth handsets, but I personally avoid them due to a very bad customer service experience a couple of years ago (threads can be found elsewhere), but that doesn't stop me recommending them to others (though I do also relate my experiences). And many others on XDA will own a whole variety of other smartphones.
The point is, does it matter which phone you own? Yes, some people will spend a fortune on a top end handset just for bragging rights, but there's nothing worse than a 'phone snob'. Most of us on XDA buy what is best for us and are generally happy and if we're not, we switch.
You pays your (hard earned) cash and makes your (well informed) choice. Enjoy what you have, worry not what other think about it and be proud that you are part of XDA and have the knowledge to tinker with and give advice about your techie toys. Just don't get caught up in a 'mine's better than yours' debate.

For those that don't want to click, HTC is seeking to ban the iPhone 5 in the US due to the fact that HTC owns 2 patents relating to connecting a device to a 4G or LTE network.
Realistically, they'll probably just use it as leverage against Apple for something else rather than have an all out ban on importing the devices; but it will be interesting to see the result.
For the phone specifically...I agree *yawn*. 4 inch screen, big deal. 5 icon rows, whoopie... Absolutely nothing new in that department.

Sammy is also gonna strike at apple with its 12% of the world's LTE patents

It's a piece of crap. Iphone 5 can't even be compared to Skyrocket, no way it would match up with S3 or Note 2 :laugh: Only Ifans would consider this icrap as an "evolution".

According to the articles I've read about the HTC case the only thing they've done (for that specific case) is ask the judge to invalidate the patents...

Not much changed since 4S, but people will buy it anyway.

Agreed, the S3 was the same. nothing exciting

I was a little late to the smart phone era. The main thing that got me to the iPhone a while back was the fact that you could jailbreak it. At the time, in my opinion, and personal knowledge, Apple iOS had the apps and the features that I wanted in my professional and personal life. Since then, the manufactures, developers and community like this forum have taken the high end android based phones far pass anything Apple could put out. I want to break my phone so I can get a SIII or something just to keep testing out all the awesome things coming out. Keep up the work guys!

But seriously, when (if?) there's an S4, it really does need to be a significant upgrade from the S3. Why spend all that money for a new phone just to get a little bit more RAM, a little bit faster processor, and a few other very minute improvements? I was ready to sell my SR to get an S3 just before they announced it, but I decided not too because it was so underwhelming. Based on today and *trying to be a reasonable individual* I think that, compared to the jump from SR to S3, the iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 is a pretty good upgrade.

Is this unreasonable?

My office has recently taken a stance of "our apps are built for iOS first" so being on Android I have to wait 6-12 months to get what others already have.
I decided to bite the bullet and put a local ad up to trade my rooted One X with 2 cases (perfect condition) for an iPhone 4s. A few days have gone by and I have not had a single response. Where I live it usually takes less than a day to get a deal done.
I though originally I was giving something up, so getting this phone for a 4s would be a bonus to whomever responded. Am I crazy? Set me straight here...

I'm of the opinion that people won't consider that an even trade. I personally traded my iPhone 4 for the HOX I have now, and it was worth more as well. Apple products just seem to have a higher value.

True, iPhones tend to hold their resale value better. Just a quick browse through eBay, it looks like 4S is going for (ballpark) $300, and the One X is going for around $200. So many people will probably not see it as an even trade.
Plus, the cycle for Android phones is really around 6 months, where iPhones are upgraded yearly (another part of the reason for the difference in resale value). One X has already been superceded by the X+ in many respects, with the M7 not far from launch either. So even if someone is looking at switching to Android, they might see the One X as being almost 2 gens behind, versus the iPhone 4S, which is one gen behind, and likely won't be 2 gens behind until Oct/Nov.
Of course, value is subjective, and you might still get someone to trade. But odds are probably not in your favor. I'd think about posting it as a straight out sale, seeing what you can get for it, and use the money to buy what you want.

I traded a 4s for my HOX. That was 2 months ago when the prices were very close on eBay. I have owned and still own both iOS and Android, iOS holds their value.
That being said...HOX is one of the best Androids offered by AT&T. Even though used iPhones sell for more, it is still a fair trade. You will get a bite, it just may take a little time. All you need is someone tired of iOS.
