For those that don't want to click, HTC is seeking to ban the iPhone 5 in the US due to the fact that HTC owns 2 patents relating to connecting a device to a 4G or LTE network.
Realistically, they'll probably just use it as leverage against Apple for something else rather than have an all out ban on importing the devices; but it will be interesting to see the result.
For the phone specifically...I agree *yawn*. 4 inch screen, big deal. 5 icon rows, whoopie... Absolutely nothing new in that department.
Sammy is also gonna strike at apple with its 12% of the world's LTE patents

According to the articles I've read about the HTC case the only thing they've done (for that specific case) is ask the judge to invalidate the patents...
Not much changed since 4S, but people will buy it anyway.

I was a little late to the smart phone era. The main thing that got me to the iPhone a while back was the fact that you could jailbreak it. At the time, in my opinion, and personal knowledge, Apple iOS had the apps and the features that I wanted in my professional and personal life. Since then, the manufactures, developers and community like this forum have taken the high end android based phones far pass anything Apple could put out. I want to break my phone so I can get a SIII or something just to keep testing out all the awesome things coming out. Keep up the work guys!

But seriously, when (if?) there's an S4, it really does need to be a significant upgrade from the S3. Why spend all that money for a new phone just to get a little bit more RAM, a little bit faster processor, and a few other very minute improvements? I was ready to sell my SR to get an S3 just before they announced it, but I decided not too because it was so underwhelming. Based on today and *trying to be a reasonable individual* I think that, compared to the jump from SR to S3, the iPhone 4S to iPhone 5 is a pretty good upgrade.

Seems like Sammy is just flooding the market with everything they can. Must be some sort of corporate strategy to it rather than anything to do with the devs.
Maybe saving ICS for their most expensive devices to try to help them sell more?
I'm sure there is an ICS build for that tablet waiting and ready in the dev dept, just as I'm sure there is a stable, usable ics build for the Skyrocket that they're holding out on in the hopes of selling more Galaxy Nexuses...

Yep money lawyers and awesome theifs LOL no your right but in an industry like this innovation is key one must change and adapt to needs of the time apples general theme thus far has been to slow down competition instead of adapting they have battled and wasted tons of money and with little to no success they are sweating and know they have to do something soon.

Apple is the considered the top brand in the WORLD. There are literally riots to get hands on an iPhone. They just released the new iPad.... People are literally sitting in their homes with a wad of cash waiting for Apples next product to just throw their hundreds or even thousands of dollars at them.
What I'm trying to say is that Apple has achieved superior brand recognition. If you understand the life cycle of an industry then you will understand that Apple isn't going anywhere for a while. They aren't sweating, they basically created the smartphone, apps, and tablet industries. So please don't tell me they aren't innovative.
The truth is that android will never be as popular as iOS. Maybe someday sales will surpass Apple but there isn't one company that is going to be as powerful as Apple when it comes to phones or tablets.

Wrong. Apple didn't invent any of those markets, they only made them appeam to the masses. The reason apple is so successfully is that there market strategy has always been getting regular people to buy tech that otherwise only people on this forum would use.
Brand loyalty and a lack of innovation will only get u so far. People will sooner or later catch on to the fact that the price premium for specs that are always months behind current competitive flagships of other companies.
I honestly believe that yes, people will continue to use iphones, but now that their is a genuine mature competitor, the markrt will change.
Actually sale of android devices have surpassed apple at times and they innovate nothing anymore they lead on a name alone and people to afraid or stuck in their own ways to try something new I pad 3 bigger resolution and better graphics processing that's your third Gen update cool.... please

Also I have been thinking of buying a GS3 but in looking at the specs all that seems different is a slightly larger higher Res screen an s4 processor and correct me of I am wrong but 2gigs of memory? The latest SkyICS rom takes many parts of the GS3 including the new Touchwiz, S-Voice, and the 50GB Dropbox bonus. As mentioned, others are working on it as well.
So just curious any of you feel jumping to a GS3 is worth it?

I was practically trying to sell my kidney to get one, but after staring at it for a while I'm really not that interested anymore. Will be first in line for next nexus phone. And I'm absolutely grabbing that nexus tablet end of this month if it's not just a rumor. I hate waiting but come september supposing apple is on time with its new lineup, I'll be getting a free iPhone 4, 4s, and iPad from my family who is upgrading so I'll have plenty to sell/trade then.

Not trolling, i had s2 for 2 yrs it's the slowest phone ever made kept crashing and the new s3 isn't any different android needs alot of work custom roms doesnt fix half the problems u cant fix something that's meant to be broken..

If you look closely, this is technically an Android forum where we are currently discussing importing one ROM to another phone it has nothing to do with an iPhone whatsoever. iphone users could care less what we say (I know, I work with about 30 of them), they know 100% that they have the best phone ever made & that's that.
Most of them just give you a blank look if you bring up ANY other phone........

I've used both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone, BOTH are great phones, it's just preference for some users.
Personally I prefer the greater customization of Android, some others may prefer the ease of use in iOS.

I'll do it pm me. The gs3 is a little laggy for my taste and the ui is very cluttered and cartoonish. I prefer the smootheness of iOS and perfect synchronization across products. Also this phone feels way too cheap, like its a toy. Screen is really nice though, but then again so is the iPhones but just a little smaller.

Even though it sounds evil I would love to see the Iphone 5 get banned in the US. Apple needs to be put in its place so that technology can evolve freely.

I think they both need to suck it up and get over it. If they both have so many billions to waste, why not give it to charities instead of each other? Bottom line- the i5 sucks something fierce but won't go away... we can only put them in their places with our rooted, over clocked, custom Android Phones

Don't think it will help anyone if the successfully ban the Iphone 5. It will just give every company the impression than they can now go to court file some paperwork and screw with their bottomline even if only temporary.

I agree that the patent trolling and lawsuit wars helps no one in the end. And I'm sure the iPhone 5 won't get banned. But doing nothing seems like a bad strategy for HTC and Samsung. Seems to make sense to fight back. Otherwise it like just letting someone kick the crap out of you, and doing nothing.
If there was some way to get all parties to just stop with the lawsuits, and just concentrate on making awesome and competitive products, that would be wonderful. But I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.
As much as I hate apple and what they're doing, these patent wars are getting obnoxious. Can't we just get along? In the end, it's us that feel the backlash!

This is what apple has done to HTC multiple times, I believe this phone was banned in the us because of apple

It was banned for quite a while. I got really lucky that the best buy I went to had one. Although it was kinda fun cause I could rub it in my friends faces cause they couldn't get it yet. Made me feel special
Pretty sure apple also got the galaxy nexus taking off of the google website for a couple days as well.

The One X wasn't so much "banned" as "delayed" by US Customs (at the request of Apple) until it was verified that the phone conformed to the patent ruling on the feature to launch an app when an URL, phone number, etc. was tapped in an email or text.
Why it took a month for Customs to verify this, I have no idea.
That's the word I couldn't think of. Delayed. Sorry

i vaguely recall being able to click on a link/phone number/etc and having it do what i want on my OLD windows mobile phone that was released pre iphone. But hey, I guess if i could sue anyone if i bought them all ipads too.
