Phone screen won't come on. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Only the "buttons" light up. I can hear notifications and such I just can't see anything. Can something tell me if I can fix it or how I can?

Pull the battery then reboot the phone. Do you see any of the splash screen? If not I'd bet your looking at a hardware issue.

Nothing. I can unlock the phone just by touch. I can't see anything.

It sounds like you might need to replace the lcd

Samsung just replaced one on my Skyrocket for 158 bucks. Plus they paid shipping both ways. Mine was cracked so not under warranty. Call them. If the phone is under a year it should still be covered so it might be FREE????

Lol I'm sure its well over a year.

Google android screencast see if you can view your screen like that. If so try wiping and reflashing a rom. Might just be a simple fix.

IF you turn it off, then turn it on with the power and volume button, it should start download mode. do you see anything on the screen if you do that?

How would i go about doing the google screen cast thing?

Anyone?

If you don't see any boot up screens at all and everything else is working, it could be the LCD or the LCD controller. Hard to say. Did it get dropped, knocked or something? The fact that is boots up and you can unlock without seeing and hear the sounds means its fully working otherwise, just no display so it's not bricked or anything. New screens are $100 on ebay but if it's not the screen or you're not comfortable doing it, might be better to send it to Sammy and get it fixed as they will at least fix whats wrong and not guess ordering a $100 screen.
Do your carrier offer any trade in's or deals or anything? Since the other guy said it was a $160 to fix it, you can buy a used SGS4G on ebay starting at that price, or just upgrade and get a new phone.
Far chance, but can you shine a flashlight on the screen when you know it should be "on" like after swipping to unlock and see if you can see any image at all?

[Q] Nexus S for 280?

Hey guys I'm a MT4G user but very interested in getting a NS. Talking to a guy locally who's selling the phone and the charger for 280, from what he's saying its close to mint condition other than a small scratch at the bottom of the phone.
Is 280 a good price? And if for some reason there's a hardware defect I can't go through T-Mobile right since they don't technically even carry it?
I'd appreciate any response.
Yes, it's a great price. Make sure everything is in good condition before paying.

Appreciate the response. If something were wrong with it do I have to go to Best Buy or will T-Mobile be able to do anything?

I don't think t-mobile would do anything about it.

If you can get the original receipt from him BB MAY help you. However, when I went there they checked my receipt against my ID but, that just may be that particular BB. T-Mobile WILL NOT help you with the phone because it is unbranded.
Sparky WAS in the doghouse. Now, He's allowed on the deck at least.
My Nexus S is annoying me.
I recommend you to do a Multitouch test, write some messages, call someone to check the speaker, etc before giving the money. I got screwed about 2 month ago with a Nexus S that was still with plastics. Everything looked alright but after I bought it I found out it had touch problem. There was a part of the screen that became unresponsible after using it for around 40 sec with out turning the screen off(lock button)... So check this before making the deal...

[Q] LCD Replacement - same as Nexus S?

Well, my phone was thrown yesterday, and my LCD went out.
When I DroidExplorer onto my phone, Screencasting works.
When I try my hardest, on my actual screen, ive gotten 3 green pixels to show up.
So assuming my LCD is dead, and my digitizer is fine, anyone know where I can actually buy the LCD for the NS4G? and if not, does anyone know if its the same LCD used in the NS?
Any links, advice, or whatever, is extremely appreciated.
I Have no problem with replacing the screen myself, Its a matter of finding the thing.
Thanks again
Nexus s has a super amoled display which means the display, digitizer, and glass are one piece. You can't just buy one part, you have to get the whole thing

Mikel - thank you. I was hoping not to have to spend a hundred on all of it, but if its my only option so be it.
Any idea if the Nexus S and Nexus S 4G Replacement parts are the same?
Esteway - I ride bmx yo! matt sparksss windshield wiper madnesss!
I would assume so. But since I don't have either I can't say for sure. I would search for nexus s 4g screen replacement, and try and find one that specifically is for the ns4g just to be safe

was doing that 2 hours before i posted.
was looking for some others that have been through this before, but its all good, as i DO appreciate any advice.
Ive taken apart hundreds of phones, and I know, things can be so finiky, I have to be 100% sure before I waste 140$ on the wrong one.
anyone else?

Phone has a really bad flicker, sometimes the screen won't light up at all

I've had this shift since january.
This is the first time I've had this issue.
It's happened a couple of times now, and I got really scared.
The screen would just not turn on, but all the other lights would.
It's happened across multiple roms too.
Is there a quick fix I can do? I don't feel like taking it to sprint because I know they'll update me and whatnot and I dont feel like dealing with all of that rooting mess lol
and yes, I do have TEP so that's not a problem.
Also, if I take it there, will they give me sh!t for not having the stock battery and try to blame my extended battery for the problem?

What it sounds like is that the Flex Cable has worn out, and cracked. Do you hear a crunching noise when you slide the Keyboard open, or closed ? If you have TEP there are some third party places that will repair it for you. They usually just charge you around $20 - $30 dollars. The third party retailers in my experience do not care if you are Rooted, or not. Just make sure you choose a reputable one.

They may not have had a Flex Cable in Stock. Sometimes the Tech will just send the device back in to be Refurbished. It's quicker, and easier for them.

My sprint store has always been really timely and easy to work with since I can remember.
I've never had an issue with them.
I must be one of the lucky ones haha
Well yes that's true. But the Sprint Store by me is also really good. I've rarely if ever had an issue with them. Plus they know me there.

Going to buy second-hand N5. What should I look out for?

I'm going to buy a N5 soon from someone, since all the retailers are either out of stock or very overpriced. Although I have bought other phones from him, I like to be super-safe.
So, are there any issues specific to the N5 that I should check for before I buy it? How do I check the life-timer? Can that timer be reset w/o unlocking the bootloader?
What's a life timer?

Not sure newer devices have them, or I have just not noticed/found it. Check the usual stuff, sensors, buttons, physical state, charge port etc. Tbh should be OK if you have bought from the same guy previously.
EDIT: Check the screen colours, some people report yellowish tint's - I haven't experienced it though.

That's going to be a problem. I'm partially colorblind and I have issues with yellow/red. On the upside, it's not going to bother me, even if it's there xD

Well as soon as you reboot your phone it starts back at zero... I wouldn't use that as a reason to buy or not to buy a phone.

Some phones have a separate counter for the whole life-timer.

Can't you get a new one from Google, or, a used one on Swappa? Either would be infinitely better than buying one from some guy.

Neither of those services are available in my country.
Hello,
1. Make sure the device isn't cracked, scratched.
2. Check for Loose buttons.
3. Check whether the GPS is getting locked or not.
4. Make sure there is no bleeding on the screen
5. Ask for the original receipt/bill and see whether the phone has warranty in your country or not.
By taking a look at the bill date you can get to know the date of purchase and can get a rough idea about the life timer or whatever it's called.
If you have all the above points covered, I guess you are good to go!?
Also, make a phone call with it to make sure the other party can hear you ( very important )

5.1.1 Random Hard reboots

I'll be using my phone and sometimes, it'll just shutoff as if you were to press and hold the power button to force it to reboot.
I'm on the stock ROM and just reflashed the latest image and its still doing it, is my power button faulty?
It could be a power button issue, but typically when I get this issue with the power button the phone won't be able to boot back up properly unless I intervene (i.e. flick the power button).

Already tried, since it was purchased through T-Mobile they're referring me to LG's Warranty center.
Let's see what happens
Edit ; same thing they're telling me out of warranty, LG wants $50 to replace it.. i'll check local shops now

50$ sounds about right. The part itself (replacement) is only about 1.5$ on ebay, but it is soldiered to the board. Here you can see the work involved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzRDnrwl9Tk

You have to add your shipping cost to the seller. How much will that save you? And what if your phone is lost on the way back? Not worth it in my book...
