5.1.1 Random Hard reboots - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'll be using my phone and sometimes, it'll just shutoff as if you were to press and hold the power button to force it to reboot.
I'm on the stock ROM and just reflashed the latest image and its still doing it, is my power button faulty?

It could be a power button issue, but typically when I get this issue with the power button the phone won't be able to boot back up properly unless I intervene (i.e. flick the power button).

Edit: Great, out of warranty, Guess it's time for a new phone?

Thought Google was replacing these one time for any reason.

Already tried, since it was purchased through T-Mobile they're referring me to LG's Warranty center.
Let's see what happens
Edit ; same thing they're telling me out of warranty, LG wants $50 to replace it.. i'll check local shops now

50$ sounds about right. The part itself (replacement) is only about 1.5$ on ebay, but it is soldiered to the board. Here you can see the work involved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzRDnrwl9Tk

You have to add your shipping cost to the seller. How much will that save you? And what if your phone is lost on the way back? Not worth it in my book...

Samsung Warranty Repair -- same phone?

Hey all,
What are your experiences with Samsung's warranty repair?
I've replaced my phone a few times with AT&T, and I finally got one where the GPS works pretty good. However, the microphone is muffled and the touch-sensitive buttons are not very responsive. I'd really like these two things fixed, but I don't want Samsung to just end up sending me a replacement (where the GPS won't work). The Samsung repair guy says they just repair, not replace... but, I wanted to hear if anyone else has done this.
Thanks!
- Phr00t
i've sent my phone in once, and yes they wont replace it as that only your carrier can do it...samsung only repairs it

right now it boots, opens setup menu (choose your language) and I can't get out of it.
any ideas on what it could be used for.

Nothing I did damaged it. It just stopped working. They are sending me a replacement, but sent me home out of the store with the broken one lol.
Thought it might could be used for development if i could figure out how to get it out of the set up screen.
heh nevermind, just got off the phone with customer service and I am expected to send the non functioning one back.
I was going to say, they usually don't let you keep them. They usually fix 'em and refurb them, or use them for internal parts at their repair centers.
How much did you have to pay for your replacement?
$90.00??

T-Mobile, Warranty's, Refurbished Sensation!?

Thinking of getting a warranty on my phone, They told me it would cost me 20 dollars, and that I wouldnt be getting a "New" one it would be "Refurbished", I'm alittle outraged by that.. considering I signed on for another 2 years and bought the phone for $265.00.. My power button is sticking and I can't stand it.. is their anything I can do to fix this? The phone works just fine.. Minus the power button..

If its the power button, call HTC and get a new back cover. Tell them about the power button problem and they will send you a back cover free. You can get a 1 time replacement part on every part of our phone from them.

It's worth a try. And if it doesn't solve the problem, you will have a spare (if they don't request your cc number/send your old cover back)

Alright cool, cause from what i see it's attached to the backpanel, maybe some junk got in there, I've tried locking the phone without the panel and it works fine, so it must be the backpanel

Try calling again you might get a different person. Tell them you can't be without your phone, you use it for buisness. If they still insist on you sending your cover first just keep arguing but don't be a **** lol.

That was before someone reported it to HTC as fraud. A bunch of users got one for no reason and someone decided to just tell HTC about it.

How about your parents, or get a pre paid credit card and use that.
yep, after everyone found out you could get a free replacement people were calling HTC to get one even though they didn't need it. Now HTC requires you to put a CC on hold & send in your old one.

Phone screen won't come on.

Only the "buttons" light up. I can hear notifications and such I just can't see anything. Can something tell me if I can fix it or how I can?

Pull the battery then reboot the phone. Do you see any of the splash screen? If not I'd bet your looking at a hardware issue.

Samsung just replaced one on my Skyrocket for 158 bucks. Plus they paid shipping both ways. Mine was cracked so not under warranty. Call them. If the phone is under a year it should still be covered so it might be FREE????

Google android screencast see if you can view your screen like that. If so try wiping and reflashing a rom. Might just be a simple fix.
IF you turn it off, then turn it on with the power and volume button, it should start download mode. do you see anything on the screen if you do that?

How would i go about doing the google screen cast thing?
Anyone?
If you don't see any boot up screens at all and everything else is working, it could be the LCD or the LCD controller. Hard to say. Did it get dropped, knocked or something? The fact that is boots up and you can unlock without seeing and hear the sounds means its fully working otherwise, just no display so it's not bricked or anything. New screens are $100 on ebay but if it's not the screen or you're not comfortable doing it, might be better to send it to Sammy and get it fixed as they will at least fix whats wrong and not guess ordering a $100 screen.
Do your carrier offer any trade in's or deals or anything? Since the other guy said it was a $160 to fix it, you can buy a used SGS4G on ebay starting at that price, or just upgrade and get a new phone.
Far chance, but can you shine a flashlight on the screen when you know it should be "on" like after swipping to unlock and see if you can see any image at all?

RMA Nexus 5

Hey guys, I'm thinking about RMA my nexus 5 because my power button is loose (we all know this problem) it doesn't bother me that much, but if I can have a new one that works fine why not, right?
So my question is, how do theses things usually go? Do I get to keep my current nexus until the new one arrives? Have you guys RMA about this problem and was it worth it?
Anyway, thanks for your attention.
If you bought it through Google you will have to pace a charge for the price of the phone on your credit card then they will send you a phone. You will send yours back in the same box. Shopping is included for free and once they get the phone the hold on your funds is removed
So I have to "temporary" pay for another phone?

It's just a hold. They usually release the funds within a day or two of receiving your old phone. Just went through two RMA's with them, it was pretty painless.
I don't think they accept a loose power button as a valid reason for an RMA, so if you try you might just find yourself out the expense for the new phone.

They do. I RMA'd my first one solely because of an annoyingly loose volume rocker. They had no issue with it.
