Terrible LTE connectivity/ Houston - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Any Houston ATT Skyrocket users in the Houston area? For the past few weeks I have been having a lot of problems. I've tried every ROM, modem, etc until I did a little digging.

It's seems that there has been some problems in the Houston area. Anyone else having problems around Houston?

I've been having this same problem. I was going to reset my APN's to see if that fixed it at all. I've called CS about it a few times and they always tell me to just pull the battery for 5 minutes and of course that doesn't fix it. they don't know what to do on it. It's been getting worse and worse it seems. My battery life is draining fast because of the constant connection attempts.
Also, mine does it on 4g and LTE.

Don't mean to be a ball buster, but mods have already set up an ATT LTE thread in General that they're trying to get everyone to use.

Thanks for this. I've flashed so many different roms/radios this week I was beginning to wonder if it was my phone.

It's not just you! I have a Skyrocket, live and work in the medical center in Houston and have experienced SLOW LTE during peak hours for the last week or two all over Houston including sugar land and humble. I do, however, notice the speeds go back to normal around 9pm to 7am. Capacity?? I'm out of contract and i'd hate to give up my unlimited data package but i'm seriously considering looking at other carriers. I've called AT&T tech support multiple times, switched SIM cards, and visited the store and even duplicated the problem on their devices. What gives AT&T??

I swear between 9:30pm and 7:30am it's fine, but then it sucks.. It's not a speed problem, but a connectivity problem. It drops the data.
I created a new APN on my phone.. I'm going to use it during the day.. It forces the phone to use 3G, but the connection is good
You have to go to Menu-->settings--> Wireless and networks--> mobile networks--> access point names.
then hit the menu button and click add new APN.
put these settings in
NAME= ATT
APN= wap.cingular
PROXY = not set
Port = 80
Username = [email protected]
PASSWORD = CINGULAR1
SERVER = NOT SET
MMSC = http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY= wireless.cingular.com
MMS PORT= 80
MCC = 310
MNC = 410
AUTHENTICATION TYPE = not set
APN TYPE = INTERNET + MMS
Hit menu and SAVE.
make sure the colored button is on the new settings... Don't delete the other APN setting (LTE)

The APN settings don't seem to be working for me on my CM9-based rom. Whenever I set up the new APN and try to select it, it switches back to the default LTE APN. If I delete LTE, it sticks but then I don't get any data at all. Any suggestions for CM9??

I'm having the same issue with the APN. I have existing, non-LTE APNs (that doesn't work), that sticks once selected but with the APN settings defined above it defaults to the LTE APN.

I have been having the same issues In College Station (NW of Houston). I thought it was my phone at first just like some of you. I have called in to tech support twice and gone into two different stores. Multiple open tickets, a sim card swap and still nothing.

I'm sure it will be fixed by the 21st (when Iphone5 is released) or there will be a lot of pissed off Iphone fanboys.. That's probably why they won't acknowledge there is a problem. Don't want to scare off sales

Not one for your specific area, but one for general reports on LTE . there have been threads locked before for the exact same reason.

I see that the tech guy from the Chronicle wrote about it this morning
http://blog.chron.com/techblog/2012/09/atts-lte-network-in-houston-is-having-connection-problems/

This morning, I've been seeing my phone mostly connected to HSPA and 3g, whereas it's normally connected to LTE almost all the time. Seems kinda promising..let's hope this is actually getting worked on. I've beein seeing this in Cypress and downtown.

Data transfer speeds

I'm not sure what is going on with my phone.
Since the 16th of January, my phone's data service appears to have crashed out.
Prior, it was working fine. I was running an old version of Perception with Firebird, and Phoenix with Firebird (2), using the I9000UGJL2 modem. I got ~~5.0Mbps down, 1.6Mbps up consistently on HSPA, and the more meek 3.8Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up on UMTS. Both times around 100-250ms ping.
All of a sudden on the 16th, my phone has now hit the crapper. Speedtest no longer reports me at my location (instead in either central Florida or northern Texas). On the download test, the dial will slowly rise to .06Mbps, then on the upload test either just not work and flash a token gesture .1Mbps or sit at 0 and then do a rapid bounce back and forth between ~~3Mbps and 0, usually reading at one of those extremes. My ping has also skyrocketed to upwards of 600ms for no reason. This is also indifferent to whether I'm using HSPA or UMTS.
Since this time, I've flashed several different modems and several different ROMs. All produce the same result, as does CWMing to some really old backups. I have mastercleared in between some of these, but it has done nothing.
I know it's not an error with the Speedtest app, because I can still do it on Wi-fi and it'll read as my home PC reads. My phone's internet browser reflects the same cause, taking upwards of 20 seconds to load Google mobile.
Anyone encountered anything similar or can explain why? The slowness is becoming inexcusable, and I can't use my phone on the network anymore for internet. I have to leave it on Wi-Fi to my disdain. At this rate, I'm leaving ATT the moment I'm given the chance. I'm not even close to going over my data allotment, so I don't really know what could possibly account for this.
att is in the middle of updating to 4g. Some more terrestrial areas are going to be sol fire a bit sadly. Where do you live?

Bridgewater, NJ. But this happens no matter where I am. Even if I approach NYC, it's still crap. I can't tell whether this is a network cap issue, a "phone is broken" issue or a "network is bloody awful" issue. It doesn't seem to be terrestrial, because I've taken it to Philadelphia and NYC and both places have been awful. Meanwhile, going out into the more rural bits still puts me on EDGE, which still yields the same reading (but that's the norm for me on 2G networks).
The key aspect here, I think, is that the readings are EXACTLY THE SAME regardless of the network mode that I am in. It's really confusing me.
I've noticed a determent in my speeds and ping as well. Before, I used to be able to get 3.5+mbps down and 2mbps up with 200ms and now I struggle to get 1mbps down and always end up with 1.5mbps up. In real world, it's more like 300kbps down and 300kbps up :/
I shouldn't be complaining but I live in the DC-Metro area and this determent has been getting WORSE for about two or three months. My ping right now is 600+ms and Speedtest NEVER catches my location right, it keeps saying I live in Kansas.
Have u tried manually changing the server on the speedtest app? I get better ping results from a server that is 600 miles away than a server that is 80 miles away.. just wondering :/

...Of course. lol That's the first thing you could do to improve it. AT&T Is shipping me a new Captivate (sucks that I have to reinstall all my apps on it :/) and i'm getting it by tomorrow. I can verify if it's a device problem or AT&T's network since I could assume if i'm having the same symptoms as OP and it's fixed by a device exchange...
Then the way to fix this problem is a call to AT&T (ask to be transferred to level 2 support)

Done it with my 2 local servers, the Kansas server, the Texas server, the Florida server and the Sydney NSW server (the last via my MobileAP tethered computer).
All the same uber-slow reading, ping generally gets worse as I go farther away. Nothing really out of the ordinary.

Have you considered it might be your modem? It really sounds like it's connecting via EDGE or even GPRS o_o even when it shows a nice pretty H or 3G in the top right corner.
I came on XDA to talk specifically about this also. I am near the NYC area roughly 35 min north and my HSPA speeds have dropped and thought it was my phone crapping out on me. Speeds have lowered similar to the OPs post and I am guessing it is because of the new towers they are putting up since how drastically i've lost bars I tried switching basebands and making sure i'm solely on 850 and 1900 and also tried 850 alone. Well i'm glad it's not only me =] i'll keep you posted if it fixes itself.

I have also, when did your problems start btw? mine have started today with the speed issue.
I had this issue a few weeks ago. I got a new captivate, and after a day of use it happened to my new phone. I called again and was sent to a store for a new SIM card. Problem solved. My SIM card was from 3 years ago, and I don't know how many phones. I thought they couldn't go bad, but that fixed my issue, no problems since.

It happened to me also when I got a new captivate and tried using my sim and after getting a new one it worked flawlessly but this situation is different. I keep running speedtest and i'm getting erratic speeds sometimes i get 2mb/s down and then other it's barely 60kb/s, I feel like it definitely is a network issue near NYC. Only time will tell what it really is.

I have a new SIM from my phone's activation because my old one looked like there was quite a bit of wear on the contacts (4 years old, mind you, from the dawn of ATT's mainstream 3G release)... If this keeps up, I'll try to pester them for a new SIM again.
I have been having speed issues also but not sure it's related to your issues. I loaded Cog 3.03 on my phone to try it out. Prior to the load I was getting 1300 - 2500 up and 154 - 386 down. After I loaded Cognition it dropped to about 84 up and 40 down. I was going to go back to stock but thought I'd give it a try for a bit. It has slowly gone back up. Last night I got 2928 up and 314 down. The last 3 tries were all over 1300 up and 300 down. Not sure if it is phone or network related but I'm going to keep watching. Just tried a speedtest and got 1061 down and 73 up but I'm also on the 1st floor in the middle of my building. I'm going to let it go for a few days and see if I need to try tweaking anything or if the speeds settle out some. So far I'm pleased with Cognition. Thanks for the dev work.
I noticed all the 3g towers near me recently switched from 1900 to 850. Could it be that your non-us modem doesn't handle 850mhz band well and internally switched to edge? With stock modem, I can barely reach 200k upload speed.

That could just be your phone getting "used" to ATT's network. I remember, when I first activated service with ATT, it took a long time for my phone to authenticate with the network, gradually shortening over time. Working under the assumption that you're doing this in Kbps, those speeds are actually disgusting. Your down speed is ridiculously low, and your up seems so variable. I think it's beyond a ROM issue; I've never experienced significant differences in ROM use and download speed, except when I first upgraded to HSUPA.

Nope, don't think so. I have GSM radios disabled on my phone: I forced WCDMA only via *#2263#. Forcing WCDMA 850 alone still produces the same result. As I had said, even after master clears (forgot to mention via OCD to JF6), I still came up with these lousy readings. Checking radio status via *#0011# tells me most of the time that I'm on 1900, so...
As an update to the situation, I've permanently switched to I9088ZNKP1. Still no change, other than marginally better ping. As this is nearly marking a week, I'm becoming very tempted to just drop ATT a line and ask them what the hell is going on and how I can fix it. I refuse to send my phone back though, proud 1007 owner, and the phone is in impeccable condition. Though I doubt they'll be able to help in any other capacity since us blokes here on XDA don't seem to be aware of what's going on here.
EDIT: Just got off the phone with ATT, surely enough they could not come up with a reason or an explanation; they removed and reinstated me on the network and still no change. Ah well, time to CWM backup and OCD back to JF6. Bringing my phone into the store.

Inconsistent LTE network connection?

Ok so I have been using the skyrocket since the released date on Sunday and so far it's the LTE network has been nothing but a joke to me. When LTE picks up, it does run pretty fast at avg 15-20 mps. But the problem is it keeps hanging at not loading and it doesn't appear like it would pick up the HSPA+ speed as promised by AT&T. Spent counterless times with AT&T reps and they are useless. Swapped a brand new skyrocket with a new LTE sim card and still the same problem.
I live in Boston and we do have LTE network. Does anyone else have this problem with their LTE network? Or maybe it's just the Samsung skyrocket problem? I'm thinking of switching to the HTC vivid but I wonder if any Vivid owners are having the same problem too.
It's not the phone. At&t is restricting certain web site, streaming ect. Check your plan. I'm having the same issue pretty much everyone with an unlimited grandfather data plan.

That's not what I'm encountering though. I'm just talking about facebook, espn or their default att/yahoo websites. They are hanging for minutes and wont load at all. Wasn't the whole point of 3.5G to ease the drop off from LTE when you're not in a coverage area? Instead the drop off is from LTE to no connection at all. Well played at&t.
I don't think I've seen my SR try and use 3.5G yet. It just sits there trying to load over LTE forever.

Under you Access Point Settings click on each APN you already have then in the menu, delete them.
Next create a new APN:
Menu Key, New APN.
Name : AT&T HSPA+
Important step: tap APN and enter exactly : phone
That's it! It's literally just "phone", not kidding. Leave everything else blank including Username and Password!
Scroll down to APN Type, Select Internet only
Hit the Menu Key, and hit SAVE
Your will return to APN settings, go to the APN you just created called AT&T HSPA+, tap the dot next to the APN and make sure it turns green!
Now for the MMS settings
Step 2 : MMS Settings
At the APN settings hit the menu key again and create a new APN, call it MMS
Under APN again just type : phone
go down to MMSC and fill the fields as follows
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: MMS only
Now again hit the menu key and save. This will be your default MMS setting and you will not need to select it.
Once your back at the APN menu with the fields you just created, make sure AT&T HSPA+ still has a green got by it.
Now hit the home key, then turn your phone off and back on.

Inconsistent results in the Boston area. At home in NH on regular 4G I can surf the web, go anywhere, do anything without problems. When I'm in Boston on the LTE network during work hours it's really hit or miss as to whether or not I can reach any website. Speedtest.net says there's a "network connection error. "And when I do, it's slow....4-5 Mbps download as opposed to 17-23 Mbps I was getting 2 days ago.
Yeah it's clearly AT&T LTE in certain areas are not fully deployed yet. I live literally minutes from downtown Boston so this is a shame on AT&T. They should fix the "hanging on LTE" problem, instead switch it back to HSPA+ like they advertise.
Obviously I can just change the network to HSPA+ only and problem solved, but it defeats the purpose of having LTE network.

intermittent data problem

Have any of you guys had a problem with data not working, like when you open your browser and it cant connect? I just started experiencing this. What I have been seeing is the browser will not connect, but I still have full bars and 4G icon. So I hit the refresh button on Chrome right away, and it connects. One time, this morning, it wouldnt connect at all, so I hit airplane mode, on then off, and it instantly connected again. This has happened yesterday and today. Im on Straight Talk, using RUXLF3 modem(just switched to UCLF6 to test...doing same thing).
Heading to bed, ill check back tomorrow. Thanks.

I also have the same problem and I have the same setup. I think this is an ST issue since my daughter's atrix on ST is also having the same intermittent data connections. We also observed it since this morning.

Thanks. Its definitely a Straight Talk issue. Talked to some folks via PM on Howard forums and some are getting throttled, some experiencing "glitches" such as you and I. Thanks again.

keep an update on this, I'm interested in possibly switching to straight talk pending if the new iphone isnt compatible with tmobile since my local carriers uses their frequencies. Savings with straight talk would be nice, although I can jump to any other carrier and use the discounts below

I have Straing Talk for two months. The data connection was good at the beginning. But I cannot connect to the internet or it's very slow since two weeks ago. Based on my research online, there are many other consumers have the same issues. I am in NJ. I am thinking to switch to other carriers if the problem is not fixed soon.
I have the same data issue as others on straight talk. When it hangs I just uncheck use packet data then recheck it and that gets data back online.

I check in here too ... Exact same problem with data not working all of a sudden .. I was thinking apn settings at first ; data proxy or no proxy ... but today happened either way !!! ...
Bummer, I am in central Ohio, and I was thinking of switching from ATT to ST BYOS with their ATT sim.
I am curious to see how this unfolds.
It sounds like flashing a tmobile radio and going to tmobile flat rate experiences intermittant data issues too?

Officially throttled. [Screenshot]

Wow! I'm laughing!!! First time ever being throttled. Also first time seeing a report of the prompt as such.
Funny too cause I'm still on HSPA networks, not seeing throttle. Yet..
Anyone know if changing APNs still works if indeed I do get throttled?

When I've been throttled it still said I was on HSPA/ 3g networks, but I still got speeds of like 50kbps down... although it isn't really noticeable in th browser for general searches/ forums although watching videos is near impossible...

Data Throttleing Workaround
To all my friends with T-Mobile~ if you have a smartphone & a data plan, I've discovered a workaround for the data caps on the newer 4g plans. The newer phones come with a certain APN, or access point name, pre-programmed into them, kind of like a proxy that your phone goes through to connect to the internet. This specific APN allows the company to track your data usage. What I did was change it to a different APN that they don't keep an eye on. I've been testing this trick for about 6 weeks now & it definitely works. I've been purposely gobbling data like crazy all month just to see if they catch me(I'm at my 5gb limit already), but the T-Mo website only shows that I've used about 100 megs(which was only caught because I flashed a new ROM a couple weeks ago & forgot to change the APN till the next day). EDIT: As of this posting, my monthly allotment has rolled over, and despite using data all day long for several days, the meter on T-Mobile.com is still at 0mb :}
Step 1- if you have the T-Mobile "My Account" app on your phone- DELETE IT. Freeze it if you don't wanna delete it altogether, but either way get rid of it. I've been getting reports that this trick is not working for people with this app installed, and I think it's because it's measuring your data usage on the phone & then reporting your usage back to T-Mobile regardless of what APN you use. So kill it!!!
Step 2- on your phone, go to your settings. FYI- these settings might not be EXACTLY the same on every phone, but you should have the same basic information fields as the ones here. Open up wireless & networks, then mobile networks, then access point names. You should see T-Mobile US or something like it, and the APN should be epc.tmobile.com. This is the monitored APN. Create a new APN with the following settings(Settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks>access point names>menu key>new APN):
Name: whatever you want, I named mine T-Mobile 2
APN: internet2.voicestream.com
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-Mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: leave blank
MMS Port: leave blank
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: leave blank
APN type: default, supl, mms (or internet + mms, if that's the setting your phone has)
APN protocol: IPv4 (if your phone doesn't have this, don't worry)
Once you input these settings, hit menu & then tap save. Go back to the APN screen, select the new APN, and enjoy your TRULY unlimited data. This APN will bypass the data tracking while still allowing you to enjoy full 4G speeds :3
FYI I've only tested this on an Android phone, but AFAIK it should work on any 4G T-Mobile phone that allows you to change the APN settings.
And FFS, keep your big fat mouth shut about this. Don't mention it to anyone at T-Mo, we don't want this getting out so they get wise to the loophole. Some might call this stealing, but we as customers PAY for unlimited data every month and its our right to get the services we pay for. Yes, the plans clearly state that you're paying for a limited amount of 4G, but I don't think that gives them the right to knock us down to sub-2G speeds once we use up our 4G allotment. If they just bumped us back down to 3G it wouldn't be a big deal, but it's total bull**** to cripple us with near-GPRS speeds.
Oh, and P.S.- if you've already hit your limit & have ALREADY been throttled... I've never been throttled so I haven't been able to test this on a throttled phone, so I have no idea if this will work to get you back up to speed(nyuk nyuk, I got jokes) but if you do it you won't have to worry about being capped next month.

I don't think it's going to do much to enhance your signal. Now the 3g - 4g data speed enhancement tool at the beginning of my mirror thread might help you out tho.

Ya know...that's the really weird thing about Tmo. And ALL of the cell companies for that matter. Just like you I can drive about 25 miles south towards Chattanooga and get a scalding 4 & 5 bars 4G! Yet I can turn north towards Knoxville and take a mile left turn over a danged hill and can't even receive a stinking PHONE CALL for the next 25 miles! It's INSANE! EVERYONE should be able to at least make a phone call almost anywhere unless they live in a cave before they start UPGRADING their damned signals for people that already have freakin' 4G! It just blows my damn MIND!
Does this work?

Avoid StraightTalk SIM.

Some of you know I have been using a pre-paid Sim Chip in my cell phone for my phone/internet service.
These past three days, my crippled data speeds have become unbearable. Time-outs caused notes to both Google Drive and Evernote to disappear into the digital ether, never to be seen or heard from again. After searching terms such as "HTC One X speeds straight talk" and "straight talk sim speeds" I began to see a pattern. People complaining of arbitrary throttling, and conflicting press releases by Tracfone Wireless and América Móvil, the parent copany of tracfone, straight talk, net10, Assure wireless, and others.
After trying the suggestions found on reputable android websites like XDA Developers and Droid FOrums I had no reliefe, and so sent an email to the corproate resolutions team at Straight talk (not the first time I've had to do this, as they tried to **** me out of at least $32 earlier this year with false advertising.)
Poor Connection Speeds
I am experiencing very poor connection speeds with my BYOP sim card. My phone is an HTC One X (ATT Version). phone number [redacted] straighttalk email registered via this account UN: [redacted]
I have set all of the APN settings to the defaults on the card and on the website.
Create a new APN with the following values:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: http://proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80 MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33 MMS
Port: 80
I have also tried variations on this APN with no luck. Other solutions tried include powercycling the phone, changing the type of default data connection, cycling the "airplane mode" on and off, cycling from 2/3G to 2G and back, updating the radio stack and baseband in my phone, and connecting to and disconnecting from a wifi network. None of these solutions has made a dent in the data speeds, which makes me fairly well certain that the problem is not with my hardware's ability to recieve signal.
At best my connection speed in Ottumwa IA is 223 kbps, and often only half that. And yet people sitting right next to me with Straight Talk phones or sim cards can easily get 1000+ kbps. The phone is not an issue, it's capable of a huge variety of frequencies and standards, and many of them are offered in my area via both ATT and Tmo towers in Ottumwa, IA. This issue has also been consistent across all of my ownership time of the SIM card. If this is a "cap" as has been widey discussed in the tech press, then it should restart with my new billing period. That has not been the case, as these slow data speeds have remained fairly consistent since I purchased the card in January, including a service lapse and reactivation.
It concerns me that I have read examinations on multiple forums and in the press from knowledgable users that there is a difference between the sim card program and the straight talk branded phones, and that users of the sim program are not only throttled, but also purposely targeted for slower speed standards in general. It is seriously affecting my usage of my phone, as in the last few days, critical apps such as Evernote and Google Drive have experienced timeouts resulting in lost data.
Straight Talk has already upset me once as a company and it took my contacting consumer advocacy groups to recieve a satisfactory resolution to that issue. The fact that I still utilize the service is a show of my good faith with it, but if these performance issues cannot be addressed, I am afraid that I will have to join many others singling the company out for criticism. You'll notice the specific proxy and port called out by the APN when android 2.1 or newer can easily auto-propegate these fields. It has been determined by people more knowledgable than myself that that combination of proxy and port specifically funnels SIM users to a pre-throttled branch of the network when compared with people using branded straight-talk phones.
Dear Lawrence,
We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. I just checked your account on our system and found out that your data has been reduced. Furthermore, your data speed will be restored at a reduced speed 24 hours after an airtime card is added to your service end date. Should you have further questions, feel free to send us an email.
Sincerely,
Tyler

TLR if you ever even once go over the undisclosed cap of 1.5 gb... your connection will be throttled to >222 kbps. PERMANENTLY.
Since all of the Tracfone services under all the different names utilize the same back end, this will likely also be true of any other smart phone on a tracfone wireless service.
Then I guess I will be telling everyone I come in contact with to steer clear of any Tracfone subsidiary, as well as once again contacting the BBB and lodging another complaint. Thank you for confirming my worst suspicions about your company. This is the second time I have been baited and switched by you folks and I will not be giving this company a third chance, regardless of any offers you make to me.

when I first signed up for the service in january, I purchased a $30 limited airtime card. when I tried to activate it, I learnd that it was "illegal" to use on the smart phone program. even though I had prior written confrimation from Straight Talk customer service that I could do just that. They then tried to keep my money for THAT card as; well as make me either eat the $14.99 I had paid for the sim card, or pay another $45 plus tax and fees for the "unlimited" card.
In fact, it's only been in the last month, after numerous complaints like mine, that they began marking on their websites and packaging that smartphones MUST use the $45 unlimited plan or higher.
So, as per my promise to this company I am passing along my experience as a warning and cautionary tale. do NOT do business with TracFone, NET10 Wireless, Straight Talk, SafeLink Wireless, Telcel América and Simple Mobile. You will be bond for nothing but tears and trouble when you need their service most and they decide you're no longer profitable enough.
Sorry to hear about all the trouble your having. I've got a BYOP StraightTalk sim too but I'm on T-Mobile's network. I've abused the heck out of my data so far but haven't noticed reduced speeds and I'm pretty sure I've gone way beyond 1.5 GB. Could this just be the case for folks on an AT&T sim?
For some reason you have just had bad service with straight talk. I've been running straight talk for the past 6 months and have never had ANY problems. One month I used about 7 gigs of data ( a rogue app) and they did throttle me for the rest of that service month to 25kbps but the minute I refilled my account the throttle was lifted and I was regularly seeing 7mbps HPSA+ again. Since then I have used 2 and 2.5 gigs and have not got any texts or calls telling me I was using too much data and I have not been throttled.
Furthermore they have advertissed that the $30 card cant be used with smartphone before last month. I knew it six month ago when I first got my sim.
And you dont even have to enter the proxy into the apn for the service to work. Been using my phone since the beginning of this year with no proxy just fine. Oh and by the way I'm extremely satisfied with the service I get. I got about a 2 dollar discount for using auto refill so for unlimited text, unlimited talk, the best coverage in the nation, and a soft limited of somewhere around 3-4 gigs of data, I would say $42.50 a month is a deal that cant be beat by ANY OTHER service provider today.
Ha, pretty funny we keep winding up in the same places. I've been with straight talk for about the same amount of time also without trouble, although slow data speeds today. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints.

sorry to hear about your troubles but I can say this least
For the past 2 to 2 and a half months I have currently been using a net10 SIM before I got my HTC One. I first jumped on the band wagon of Net10 SIM when I got Samsung Galaxy Note ( Orignal) for $200 dollars. I found the net10 sim package at my local game stop for around $15 dollars. In that package there is three SIM options : One for AT&T branded or unlocked phones; One for a T-Mobile Branded or unlocked phones; and one micro SIM for AT&T branded or unlocked phones. I paid a small fee and had my Note unlocked and used the full sized AT&T sim. Got great speeds on HSPA+ ( between 4 and 8 mbps). However when I activated the SIM on their website they notified me, albeit in the small print , that if I used an AT&T sim that at 1.5 gb of use they WOULD throttle the speed down the snail ass slow. But on the left side of the screen they announced that if the AT&T SIM users want to switch to T-Moblie service instead that they would send them a free SIM card to do so. T-Mobile blows in my town as they have no 3g ony their EDGE service which isnt worth a damn with a 4g phone. So I'm limited on the service as far as GSM is concerned . With AT&T I get the back haul 4g its not LTE but still pretty snappy. The first month my 5 year old blew threw the 1.5 gb and instead of throttling me they just cut data out completely. Then they proceed to say that if you do that and add a service card before your service end date then then it does nothing for you data speed. it has to be on or after the service end date. I waited till the day my service ended and add an "unlimited" service card. However that did nothing. It was three DAYS before I had ANY data the two more days till my speeds were on par with what they were at the begaining. So all I can say is really RESEARCH the service you want and as always learn first hand. I am currently using the micro SIM in my OneX
and so far so good. I just use wifi when and wherever I can and keep and eye on my data usage. Other than the BS at first its pretty good for what you pay.
I've personally noticed network speed decreasing with the ownership of any prepaid GMS sim card.that I've tried (h20, straight talk, simple mobile)
Straight Talk completely turned off my data. Data does not work at all, Mms doesn't work. Which is why I'm switching service providers at the end of the month. I've had no problems for about the first 2 months. Then I pay for this month's and my data is cut off. I'm not going to keep paying for something that doesn't work. My little sister has an iPhone 4 on straight talk and her data is constantly off one day then on the next.

Same thing here.. I did get throttled once... 13 gb in 3 weeks, cable modem died and I tethered to my laptop, Netflix, Pandora, 1channel... Gotta love mhl adapter. They dropped me to like 25k a second, pure horror. After next payment boom full speed again.. sounds like the op just had a bad run

TLR if you ever even once go over the undisclosed cap of 1.5 gb... your connection will be throttled to >222 kbps. PERMANENTLY.
Since all of the Tracfone services under all the different names utilize the same back end, this will likely also be true of any other smart phone on a tracfone wireless service.
when I first signed up for the service in january, I purchased a $30 limited airtime card. when I tried to activate it, I learnd that it was "illegal" to use on the smart phone program. even though I had prior written confrimation from Straight Talk customer service that I could do just that.

I was wondering if you fixed this problem. I have the HTC one x and have the exact same issue I have tried everything and phone still acts up. If so could you email me the solution please my email is [email protected] Thanks
Confirmed with Net10 also
Just to report same thing with me.. I had an HTC Vivid branded Att and also a Galaxy S3. I was duped into using the Net10 service and everything was fine until I flashed a different ROM on my girlfriends S3 and all the sudden I couldnt get any mobile data. I searched and re flashed roms and thought I wiped her radio. I felt like a noob for the weekend then finaly I tried puting the sim card from my Vivid into her phone and everything worked fine. I put her sim card in my phone and I couldnt get any data. Then I got heated because I just spent 2 days and nights messing with this phone, my girlfriend now thinks Im incompetent. and I never received any type of warning and new that I didnt use that much data.
Well that monday about noon I realized that I didnt have any data on my phone either. I called the worthless customer service to ask what the deal was and talked to a gentleman in India who after 30 mins told me that I reached my limit on data. I have an unlimited data plan that costs me 50.00 x2 a month. it was the 18th so a little over a half of a month I supposedly reached a limit that doesnt exist. I asked to buy more data with no luck.
Here is a company that offers unlimited but then says I reached my limit after about 2.5 weeks without any email or warning. They have no problem emailing me for dumb ****. Then I have no option to purchase more. I know that most people would say I just had a bad go. But I can assure you that this company doesnt want your business so dont give it to them.
Net10 Straight Talk Tracfone ALL THE SAME COMPANY
Use them if you want to but you will be throttled and possibly shut down. I had a smartphone that I couldnt use for a month. Im now with Tmobile and its not much better. I have no service in alot of areas that I frequent. Im not sure if any of them are worth a damn.

I'm going to have to change my opinion here I just paid my bill on the 1st. And on the third I was having issues sending a mms. Well knowing how much I screw with the phone I assumed it was something I did.. then I noticed when I left home and my WiFi disconnected I had no data at all... Now I'm pis**d off, call customer service after looking at my data usage.. 26mb used. I get the typical india rep that says they have no idea why. Then I ask for a supervisor and the guy says ok. I'm placed on hold only for the line to be answered by a machine telling me about high data usage.. I was like Bulls**t and called back. I get pumped to same message 4 times.. now keep in mind it's was a holiday here in the US so I had quite a few beers flowing through me. I finally called back from my wife's line and refused to give my cell number or name till I had a supervisor on the line. After tearing him a new one he reset my account and I verified I had data and at normal speeds. Then I had him give me the number to the corporate office, I called and received the message about calling back between normal business hours. I'm calling them Monday and gonna have some fun, polite but pissed attitude. I'll post the results of the call and may even record it and post that. See how it goes this time.
Only thing better than customer service is finally getting the phone number directly to the main corporate office in Florida.
I shall share

i used to be an Sprint user, i was paying like $165 for 2 lines , the Internet was very slow sometimes, so i looked Information of cheaper carriers and good service and i Found Straight Talk,. that uses T-Mobile and At&t network, ( depends of your Sim Card ) so i bought 2 at&t sim cards from Ebay, like $70 dollars each, and i bought this awesome device too , and i unlocked the iphone 4s ( sprint iphone ) of my daughter with GPP and now i been using Straight Talk service $45 UNLIMITED, ( $90 dollars for both phones ) and the internet is very fast , i don't know what it is, but i guess is because i have the AT&T Straight Talk sim card . i'm very happy with this new service.
btw, i tried this APN settings, but,...
Name: ST (or whatever you want)
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80

MMSC: http: mmsc. cingular. com (**no spaces and no”//”**)
MMSC proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310

Authentication Type: Not set
APN type: default, supl, mms (notice I took off the mms! This is because we’ll enter a 2nd APN for mms.)
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Not specified
but my data and mms wasn't working. so i finally found the correct APN settings for my At&t sim card.
APN: tfdata
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mms-tf.nt
MMSC proxy: 66.209.11.33
