Motley kernel or any others available for infinity? - Asus Transformer TF700

I see that tf300 jelly bean works, has anyone tried motley kernel for the prime on the infinity? Curious as to whether or not this thing can be pushed any harder in the 3D gaming department. I know we've got more pixels but when comparing my infinity's framerate to a tf300, there is quite a noticable difference.

Nexus 7 gaming FPS vs TF300

Just got done comparing the fps on both the Asus tf300 and Asus nexus 7 and had very different and disappointing results. I was able to get 40-55 fps (45 average) on the nexus 7 playing the latest version critical strike 2.19. The tf300 on the other hand holds 60fps perfectly. If vsync wasn't enabled I'm not sure how high it would go but its obviously running smoother on the tf300. They both have the same resolution so it must be the OS?
I'm really tempted to take this n7 back due to several dead pixels and get the 32gb tf300. Any reason besides google software? I look at it like I end up running custom ROMs anyways right?

tf700 w/ Jelly bean VS Note 10.1

Hi, all,
I may return the tf700 (bad LCD, a few spots (not pixels) brighter when all white) to BB.
I have tf700 OTA to Jelly bean latest, and I do notice some lag when opening stock browser, sometimes transitioning between apps etc.
I read many reviews comparing the two, but most before the latest OTAs arrived on tf700. I really wonder with all the recent OTAs, how does the tf700 score with the Note 10.1 tablet?
In the old days (aug/sep), note 10.1 felt better with smoothness because of the hardware I suppose? Is that advantage still presenting itself after tf700 moved to Jelly Bean? How good/bad is battery life between the two now?

P.S. I think Deusdies was in a similar situation before, but that was a couple months ago.
The 10.1 Note is known to be smoother due to it not having a full HD screen.
So if you can live with lower resolution you may find the note smoother out of the box.
However, the TF700 offers other opportunities; Keyboard Dock, battery life, much better screen, USB ports, very quick once unlocked and rooted, etc

The low res is probably ok, but I kind of hate to leave TF700 as the less bright Note 10.1 will almost certainly struggle when reading needs to be done with signficant reflections. So I would either carefully check the TF700 hoping to find a good piece (without screen installation problem/etc, but have to bare with i/o freezing...), or just go with Note with suboptimal screen brightness ....
Try Nexus 10? My sister has 10.1 and after using Nexus 7 I really notice pixels on Note. It's not terrible, but you will probably notice it even more than I will. I suppose it takes time to adjust from higher to lower PPI. Nexus 10 however has 300 PPI and is probably the top 10 incher out there, not sure.

I have done a lot of research on the tf700t and will have to say its better built and more durable than Samsung galaxy note.

Worth buying now with JB?

After reading all the reviews on how the a700 is sluggish on ICS, Ive stayed away. However there are some really good deals on it right now, and I saw that it had the JB update. Does that resolve the sluggishness issues? Is it worth buying now? I'd love the extra resolution for PDFs etc, but don't want to deal with something that feels slow all the time.
Actually, the device is not as smooth as a galaxy s2 with jelly bean and aswell it's not as smooth as a galaxy tab 2 10.1, it still lags a bit, but it doesn't really disturb.
Edit: Actually speaking for the last official Acer Jellybean.
However, speaking of the better resolution, the display is not worth the buy, I have seen better displays with 1280x800 pixels, for example the Sony Xperia Tablet S display. The A700 Display is not very bright, also the light sensor is bugged and you basically allways use the lowest brightness settings and the display does not have a good contrast aswell, the resolution is fine, but I enjoy to work with other tablet displays a lot more.
what do you expect? it is a FullHD tablet, so you can expect slowdowns due to the high resolution.
If you don't like it, get a Nexus 10. apparently it is very smooth.
I can say that the A700 runs now more smoothly with custom roms (Coolrom 700 or IconiaN 2.2 with a custom Kernel).
So for the price it IS worth buying.
I bought the Asus Infinity after I got tired of the ICS sluggishness on the a700.
After the JB update came for the a700, I went back and forth between the Acer and the Asus.
This this week, I decided to sell the Infinity and keep the Acer a700..better sound, more responsive (the IO issue on the Infinity was killing me), and I found better battery life.
If I were you, I'd wait for the next batch of tablets powered by Tegra 4. 2560x1600

More resolution more problems to handle good performance i think.
i don´t know what you expect to get for around 370€. Keep in mind the price and what it has on the good side. When you want to have the best, you need to pay for the best. But everything has an other side.
I wanted a tablett,which is fast enough and has the ability for getting a stock 4.2 and a good picture (sound) for watching videos, photos and tv. First i started with a 220€ lcpower sinai-1 tablett. compared to what i got for 150€ more, the acer makes me in every point happy:
- a much better case,
- a lightnings better Panel and Display glass (i mean gorilla) - try to cleaned the other one, it was not possible without cleaner, bad contrast? Not really. My photos looks brilliant, its brighter than all my laptops. together with ips angle stability it´s a great pleasure against photos frames i know.
- long lasting battery life
- everybody is writing on lags. I didn´t reallized them. But i don´t want to play with it. Maybe there are some games which are currently to much for this resolution. Its the same like on laptops, gaming is premium class LOL
- i get covers for it.
I noticed, that eather the alternative tabletts are not on stock, or are much expensiver or are much cheaper. Around 250-350 € are no tabletts. And i wanted to have warrenty, so a china import was not a choice, from the quality not speaking.
And we can root it!
If you don´t want the high resolution, you can choose maybe the a510. It depends on your preferences.
Got an Acer A701 last august, with ICS on, paid the equivalent of 550€ back then. I installed an unofficial JB 4.1.1 ROM back in november, it improved a lot, heating problems have almost totally gone away, system is more responsive, beside the JB improvements and tweaks. In general, tablet's quality is good. I have a protective case but no screen protector, the screen looks like new after six months anyway. I'd love it to be a bit thinner, but nevertheless. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.
The stock launcher seems to attribute to the slow response. I have been using Nova Launcher with JB and the response is night and day. It is almost as fast as my Galaxy S3.

Which rom for gaming?

Well, I'd like to play stuff like GTA:SA and KotoR on my Note 10.1, sadly KotoR laggs like ****ing crazy on CM13 and Omni 5.1.1 (and I love CM13 ) and since the developer stated that the Note 10.1 is a supported device and that it should run smooth I figured that the roms aren't using the hardware properly.
So which rom would u guys take for gaming purposes?

The Note 10.1 has a similar (or identical) GPU as the $50 Amazon Fire tablet, which is why you notice GTA SA runs smoothly. Many games are optimized for it, and thus if you compare the graphics on SA on the Note 10.1 to a Snapdragon 800 device for example, there is a HUGE difference in terms of the quality of textures. Take a good look at the lighting on the floor in front of a car from its headlights and notice how it looks pixelated. It is optimized. Even if you max out the graphics, it will not compare to other chipsets such as Snapdragon or so on. If you try to play it on a Kindle Fire HD, the graphics were never optimized for Texas Instrument OMAP processors since they left the mobile scene a while back, and the graphics look similar to Snapdragon processors, but people look like ghosts.
My point is, the other game you mentioned may not be optimized for simpler graphics processors. As for your choice of ROM, CM13 is still alpha for this device, and OMNI may have too many features and battery optimizations, although not sure. Try CM12 if there is an official build, they never hog the device with extras and thus performance is beautiful. If we have Dirty Unicorns, I would also give that a check as it has always proved better than stock in terms of gaming on every device I have owned.
Lastly, if yours, like mine, does not overheat on full stock TW while gaming heavily at all, perhaps you may want to consider a custom kernel, if any, to overclock the CPU/GPU, although the battery life will be horrible and charging while playing may not be possible.
Looked around and sadly no DU, BUT beanstalk is also known for being fast, but the build I see is unofficial and results may vary. Give it a shot, I cannot test any roms until I can confirm that I can stay on full 4.1.2 BL and still install custom roms. Dont want to update and get KNOXed as it is annoying having the bootloader counter, not that I care about warranty or such.

Horrible screen banding on new shield k1

Hello everybody
I recently picked up new shield tablet k1 and played with it a bit until i noticed something strange i didnt experience with my other tablets - banding. Everything looks OK if you browse photos, websites etc, but any 3D game shows horrible banding in place of gradients. Im running stock kernel with OTA 1.2, no idea if it happened with 1.1 because i updated right away after first booting my tablet. Also checked every possible colour settings, force gpu rendering, wipe erase data and reinstalling it all also makes no difference.
It doesnt look like screen issue because gradients on lcd test websites look great. I'll pick some screenshots later when im back home to show my issue, just wondering if anybody else had the same problem and any tips are very welcome.
Could you give us some examples of games that show this problem? I personally haven't ever noticed this, but I'll try some new games (to me anyway) and let you know if I have the same thing.

It happens for example in Simcity Buildit, where its most noticeable on loading screens, but with closer look also on gui elements. Also in games like Rayman Adventures, Marvel Contest of Champions or Modern Combat

I think the developers use only 16 bit graphics. That in combination with the large full hd screen makes that more noticable than on larger screens.

This makes no sense as those games are supposed to be optimized for shield, developers would have to forcre 16 bit rendering for Tegra exclusively. Those games look better on much weaker devices.
Hi, I have also this problem playing Minecraft, Geometry Dash and the same Rayman Adventures. I thought it could resolve with a wipe but nothing. Strangest thing I noted is that is a software problem, since you can see those bands also in a screenshot or in a screen cast.
Probably we have to report to nvidia as an issue of the last ota

I didn't contact them yet because im trying to gather more information, at first i thought its issue with my device but it seems this affects more tablets.
I did some tests. Seems like grey scales are more affected, but also other colours have this banding. I tried the same tests on Motorola Moto E and LG G3 and there aren't band. But doing a screenshot i can see the band in other phones too.
I don't know if this happens also on other firmware version or on custom ROMs.
I tested this with stock Android 5.1.1 and there was the same issue, so it's not ROM specific. Also worth noticing is the fact that all gradients look very good on images or websites. I'll try to test this with GLTools faking GPU info, the same trick allows Tegra to run properly XCOM: Enemy Within without graphical glitches.
If your tab is rooted, can you test if this happen in custom ROM too, or with a custom kernel? Maybe is nvidia fault.
However that is the weirdest. If I remember right, photos and web navigation aren't drawn by GPU, differently from games and particular test images, I don't want to say a stupid thing though.
Since I didn't rooted yet, principally for warranty reason, I have to wait any fixing ota, hoping that it isn't hardware fault
I tested it with GLTools faking GPU info with no positive result, so the last possible test is custom kernel and custom rom.

Unofficial Kernel changed nothing. Didn't try with custom ROM yet and at this point i think its pointless. All seem that its Tegra driver behavior and unless it gets updated we have to stick with what we've got.
I believe I have the answer : the precision of the hardware (or firmware) texture interpolators is way lower than on other platforms. Maybe something like fixed point 24.2 instead of 24.8. See for details first result on google (I can't post url...) : "iq hardware interpolation"
I had extreme banding on a bloom FX on HP Slate 7 extreme only (tegra, was working fine on Nexus 5 (adreno gpu) and PC (GTX970)), on a dark orange gradient. I switched to manual interpolation in the shader, and the problem was gone. So I doubt the issue can be fixed with an android update, maybe a driver update, or maybe not at all as it could be hardware design, to improve performance (but at what cost !).
