You should be able to edit contacts that you have created. But you can't edit contacts that have come from Google+ solely.

Yea, good question. I'm a little bummed too that I gotta do it through Google contacts on the computer.
i had no issues editing my contacts with jelly bean. i just went to the app drawer>people> then clicked on a contact. then i hit the settings button (menu button) then clicked edit.

My menu button was the recent menu button. If u just pressed it real quick it was the settings button and if u held it down it would pop up the recent apps.

If anyone is still having trouble with this I found the solution:
Menu > Settings> Interface - System> Hardware Keys> select Enable Actions> and you can choose any of the 3 buttons to make a Long Press bring up the menu

I guess I could have told them to do that. Lol but that only works if you have android 4.0.4 if I remember right.

Does anyone know where the action for longpressing the home button is stored on TW roms? I'm on Synergy, and want to change the longpress of the home from the recent apps switcher to the menu button, but I cannot for the life of me find where that is stored. I found where nearly everything else is stored, but I just need to know where the longpress of the home button action is stored, so I can change it to MENU. Thanks!
There's an option to change hardware key settings on paranoid android. Its an aosp cm10 ROM.

It cannot be done to my knowledge unless the developer has incorporated it into the rom.

It CAN be done. You just need to find a launcher that supports it.
I use Nova launcher and you can assign an action to the home key to open whatever you want. It's not the longpress, its the press once for homescreen then when you're on the homescreen you press it again and another action comes up. Thats the action you can define using Nova.
Try this.

I know this is a vague response but I don't know where exactly, just am about 99% sure it's code is found in b the android.policy.jar, as this is were the long press for menu/back is found my guess would be the home and power button coding is found in that .jar
I'm running CM10 with the NavBar mod and have no need for those gaudy soft keys to the left/right of the home button on the S3. How can I make them go away?
Figured it out. For others: ES File Explorer - go to /sys/class/leds/button-backlight and change brightness to 0.
in AOKP there is a setting in device options to turn the lights off, but I am wondering if there is a way to disable the keys altogether, ie. maybe a .zip or through a file explorer?

The perfect combo.... it won't work though. If you change to camera it won't wake device. I've been setting it to power, as I didn't seem to use it for camera as much as I thought. And now with customizable Nav bar ring I have easy access to camera.
Also, wanted to add that a reboot is required after making the necessary changes..

I also noticed that the same problem arises also when you long press the home button to get to recent apps, if you have an app open in the background at that moment and you press the home button to get out of the recent app screen, it closes the app!

Problem is, when you re-enable s-voice and assign it to double clicking the home button, it brings back the lag when single clicking the home button and it breaks the custom shortcuts that I've made with the app home2 shortcut...
what are people talking about...the home button does wake the device. Am i missing something?
Haven't seen this posted yet and each phone is a little different. Curiously it's more like the Note II than the SIII.
1) Open Root Explorer
2) Navigate to: /system/usr/keylayout/
3) Press 'Mount R/W'
4) Long hold 'gpio-keys.kl' and choose "Open in Text Editor"
5) Remove "WAKE" from the line "172 HOME WAKE"
6) Back out, Save, Reboot
Enjoy

Well... the power button wakes the phone up just fine. I also worry that it can get pressed while in my pocket.
Coming from the Galaxy Note I enjoy the Home Button to wake the phone instead of always having to use the Power Button.
What I'd like to see is Google Voice search shortcut while holding the Power Button instead of the Task Manager.

That and also in any app, long press on the menu button acts as the search button within the app.
Just throwing this out there - I read here and in the .kl file that it is not good to mess with the generic.kl file. Does anyone know which would be the best .kl file to edit?

As mentioned, Power button works the same. I don't need two ways to turn it on. I keep my phone in a belt case and it's tight enough that just putting it in the case turns the phone on. I'm tired of checking to see, so I did this mod today. Actually, it's one the biggest reason I rooted today! Mod worked great, thanks given. Much happier now.
