Change Home Button Longpress - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone know where the action for longpressing the home button is stored on TW roms? I'm on Synergy, and want to change the longpress of the home from the recent apps switcher to the menu button, but I cannot for the life of me find where that is stored. I found where nearly everything else is stored, but I just need to know where the longpress of the home button action is stored, so I can change it to MENU. Thanks!

There's an option to change hardware key settings on paranoid android. Its an aosp cm10 ROM.

It cannot be done to my knowledge unless the developer has incorporated it into the rom.

It CAN be done. You just need to find a launcher that supports it.
I use Nova launcher and you can assign an action to the home key to open whatever you want. It's not the longpress, its the press once for homescreen then when you're on the homescreen you press it again and another action comes up. Thats the action you can define using Nova.

Try this.

Valid point, but if you just want to run the rom standard tw, your stuck with what was built in.

Does this still hold true? I have remapped my menu button to back and my back button to recent applications, but am now in need of a menu key. I would like to long press home to get menu. Any ideas on how I can do this?

I know this is a vague response but I don't know where exactly, just am about 99% sure it's code is found in b the android.policy.jar, as this is were the long press for menu/back is found my guess would be the home and power button coding is found in that .jar

With LauncherPro how do I add applications to homescreen

All I get when I do a long press is the option to add folders, widgets, shortcuts and go into wallpapers.
I did a reboot thinking that after I installed it there was an issue but I still don't get an option to add apps. I tried a search on this in the forums and was surprised to not find anything.
Have you tried holding down the app from the drawer til it appears on your home screen?

Thx. I wonder why it isn't in the long press context menu also.

[Q] Double tap on home

Does anyone know how to set what double tap on home button should do?
It's not double tap its press and hold I have leedroid Rom and I can set it
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
No, i was referring to double tap. I would rather be able to use double tap rather than long press. Alternatively, a flash or some sore of audible, visual, or tactile notification when i have long pressed as opposed to short press would be sufficient.
But really, what I actually want is double tap, not long press.
Current mod available is
Recent apps become menu key
Tap on home is still the same
2 second press on home is recent apps
Thats it, nothing else.

There is tactile feedback for long press...it vibrates twice.
@smurf: There is only tactile feedback for that if you enable all tactile feedback, of which I wasn't really looking for. Unless you know of a way to enable only that tactile feedback.
@Bigden: I am familiar with current mods. I know that there is the ability on other phones, specificially motoblur phones, that allows you to change the settings somewhere to effect double tap on home. I wanted to know if a similar method has ever been used on sense.

Recent Apps Home Key Press Duration

I'm usually one who doesn't like to sit and wait around having to hold a button to get something to work, and I don't usually have a heavy hand so I prefer a very short press and hold period. Is there any way to modify how long we have to hold down the home button to see the recent apps?
I changed the home button action in nova launcher so that it first goes to my main home screen. If it is already there a single press of the home button opens the recent apps list.

But what about if you aren't already at your launcher? Say... you're using Chrome and want to go to recent apps, right now it takes a press an hold of around 2 seconds or so. I would like to know how to change this to reduce it to a second or perhaps less.
In that case I hold it until the recent apps shows up. So I guess nova launcher settings only help if you're not in an app.

But that's exactly my point, is that right now you just hold it until recent apps shows up, which is like two seconds. To me personally, this is too long. I usually have quick hands and do everything really quickly, the long press I use for Swiftkey is set to 200ms. This is why I think it would be nice to change the recent apps to maybe a second or so, I'm just not sure how to go about doing this.

I was thinking of the same sort of thing before discovering Sheffy007's nav bar thread. I now think the nav bar is a more elegant solution.
If you're not a fan of the Nav Bar, you could study the changes he made to the key files and possibly swap home and recent apps (pressing home brings up recent apps, holding home brings up the home screen).

Would a launcher help this issue?
Couldn't you set the double click assigned to the siri like Samsung voice to go to recent apps instead? That would be much faster...

I'm fine with the use of the long press home button for recent apps, I just wish I didn't have to hold it for so long, although a double press wouldn't be bad either.
It seems like this should be an easy fix though, if we can just figure out where the file is that says to wait 2000ms before bringing up the recent apps, it should be as simple as changing that to a smaller number, shouldn't it?

I looked through the SQL Lite DB on my device (TW based ROM), /system/usr/keylayouts and decompiled framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk, and SystemUI.apk. I briefly looked through everything and the closest thing I could find was in framework-res/res/values/integers.xml
<integer name="config_longPressOnHomeBehavior">2</integer>
I don't think that's it, but it's worth a shot (nandroid first). Anyone else know where button duration is set?
I think this closely relates to what mybook already found, but I found this in framework-res/res/values/public.xml:
Code:
7946 | <public type="integer" name="config_longPressOnHomeBehavior" id="0x010e001d" />
Still has nothing to do with the duration, but it might be able to lead us to the duration.
I've noticed since flashing CM10 that the long press seems to much quicker, around a second or so, meaning this must be possible somehow.
I was searching for the exact functionality when i got to this thread, and I was disappointed. Surely someone in XDA can accomplish something like this?
I was hoping there would be a file somewhere in the root dir that holds the settings to this long press duration in an integer. Something like the sys/class/leds/led-backlight/brightness file that sets the softkey brightness to zero, effectively turning it off, which is really useful for night reading.
Has still nobody figured it out? :crying:

You should be able to edit contacts that you have created. But you can't edit contacts that have come from Google+ solely.

My menu button was the recent menu button. If u just pressed it real quick it was the settings button and if u held it down it would pop up the recent apps.

If anyone is still having trouble with this I found the solution:
Menu > Settings> Interface - System> Hardware Keys> select Enable Actions> and you can choose any of the 3 buttons to make a Long Press bring up the menu

So there is no menu key on this phone. I find it very strange.. haha. I hgve an older app or 2 and there is no way to get into the settings. Is there some method you guys that are used to samsung to access menus? On htc you would just long hold recent apps button to access menu from anywhere. Is there any option like that on this phone?

Worked!! Thanks
You're welcome! I figured this out when the g3 came out because they got rid of the menu button
Hold back does not work. Some apps it force closes. Some apps it brings up a menu with a quit button. But long hold back doesn't access the setting menu. At least not on my phone. First thing i tried actually.
Pie app? So i need an app to access a menu in a different app? What
