No menu key... what now? - Sprint Note 7 Questions & Answers

So there is no menu key on this phone. I find it very strange.. haha. I hgve an older app or 2 and there is no way to get into the settings. Is there some method you guys that are used to samsung to access menus? On htc you would just long hold recent apps button to access menu from anywhere. Is there any option like that on this phone?

Worked!! Thanks

You're welcome! I figured this out when the g3 came out because they got rid of the menu button

Hold back does not work. Some apps it force closes. Some apps it brings up a menu with a quit button. But long hold back doesn't access the setting menu. At least not on my phone. First thing i tried actually.
Pie app? So i need an app to access a menu in a different app? What

With LauncherPro how do I add applications to homescreen

All I get when I do a long press is the option to add folders, widgets, shortcuts and go into wallpapers.
I did a reboot thinking that after I installed it there was an issue but I still don't get an option to add apps. I tried a search on this in the forums and was surprised to not find anything.
Have you tried holding down the app from the drawer til it appears on your home screen?

Thx. I wonder why it isn't in the long press context menu also.

How to close browser and return to previous app?

Since there is no quit option for browser, there are only two ways to close the browser: back button or home button.
Now here is the problem: if I clicked a link from an app, say twitter, and the link was automatically redirected several times (for example, redirecting to a mobile site). After I finished reading on the browser, it is hard to go back to the original app.
If I clicked back button, it will go back one page and then redirect me again to the webpage. I have to hit back three times quickly.
If I hit the home button, I will be at the home screen...
What is the best solution?
Hold down the home button to bring up a list off recently used apps.

Whilst still in the browser, tap the menu button then tap the windows option. From there you can close any and all browser windows.

This its how you do it. Personally though,i go the quick back button route, so I don't have a bunch of windows open.

Just received my G Tablet - Menu button not working?

Sorry I did a search on this and I could not find anything. I just got my G tablet from woot today and I could not get the "MENU" button to work. It is the button below the home button and above the back button. I've used all the apps and whenever I hit the menu button nothing comes up, is this normal?

Depends on the app as to whether the menu button does anything. Some apps simply do not havea menu.
When you press the menu button while on the main screen does anything happen? It should take you to the settings options, no?

I think this is normal, that button does not seem to do anything in most stock apps. Try opening up the es file explorer and pressing it.

SIDE QUESTION: anyone know how to choose camera pictures or non-stock pictures as wallpaper? I can't seem to figure this out...spend like an hr on this..
EDIT: Nvm flashed to TnT and I don't have to worry about this anymore. worked great

Bug in note 5

There seems to be bug in note5 software and I've reported it to Samsung. Here are steps to reproduce :
1. Open Google play store
2. Press and hold back button for a few seconds
3. Now the back button will not work in the app so you can not exit unless you force quit it with the task manager!
Please let us know if you have the same issue.

Just tried it and I am able to exit the app. I held it down for 5 secs, 10 secs and 15 secs, and each time I was able to exit the Playstore App. I am on Playstore App 5.10.29.
Thanks for the reply. I installed the latest version of play store and the issue is resolved
Just tried and the bug is there. Not really a big deal as you can just press the home button or recent apps button to get out.
Not sure if people realize this but long press of the back button brings up app menus. It's as if you pressed the menu button.
So to confirm, you are talking about the button on the bottom right side of the phone? With the arrow on it?
I got excited when I saw your comment and tried it as I need menu button in an old app. Well all I got when holding it was the same as pushing the button twice.

It might only work in some apps. It doesnt work for me on tapatalk or Gmail but it works on chrome and nova launcher.
Sure enough, it works for me in chrome. I couldn't replicate in Nova but I just tried from the settings menu. I do sure wish it worked for CraigsNotifica though. It is not being developed anymore as I understand it. I can still use it but the menu button would be a lot better. Well either way thanks for the reply.

In App Menu button

Idk if you guys are coming from a note 4 or just a general non s6 or s6 edge... but I didn't know they got rid of the long press menu... i just found out that if you long press the back button, it sort of acts as an in App Menu button. Just sharing a tip for those who may not know.

I have an app (maybe multiple) that does not have an in app menu button built in and therefore requires a menu function from the OS. I used to long press the back key in my LG G4 to get into the menu, but can't figuring out how to do it in my video surveillance app on my S7 Edge. If I short press the bottom left (two squares button), the open apps come up. If I long press the bottom left, it tries to take me into split screen mode (which this app doesn't support). If I press the bottom right key, the phone goes back to the desktop. Same results yield in long pressing the bottom right button. Does anyone know how to get into in app menus that do not have a menu button? My Uniden Guardian app requires this menu to exit out of the application or it will show in the notification area in standby mode. The only other way I can exit the app is doing a force close.

NM, it must be specific to my Uniden Guardian app... The long press back key works in other apps.
Any answer yet?
If I long press the back button in any app, I am immediately taken back to the home screen and once in the home screen, the home screen drop down items pop up. Any solutions for this?
Maybe it's carrier specific? The long-press back button brings up the in-app menu in virtually all of my apps.
On my Sprint GS7E, longpressing the Back button brings up the in-app Menu function.

I have found a few apps that close when long pressing the back, and some that show the menu properly. I had to find another super simple (no permissions required) grocery list app since Simple Grocery List was one that would close.
Here is the fix I figured out that works in this situation and it would be good to pass this on or write up a document.
Go to phone settings => Accessibility => Dexterity and interaction => Assistant Menu.
Got this from galaxy s6 edge forum have an app with need of menu button and it now work with this work around hope this helps for now my phone is not rooted.

I'm seeing this too in some apps. Including XDA Premium (Tapatalk). Holding back for the menu seems to think I'm tapping the back button. The app goes back through the previous pages, then quits.

Assistant Menu gives you a few options like home button back button and also a menu button that you can use whilst in any app to open the menu as the long press back button doesn't work on some apps it's just a work around that does work

The assist menu button is for apps that require a physical menu button to access the menu on any apps. It is used for apps that don't have the 3dot menu option it's just a work around for apps that don't have that option or that not have been updated for marshmallow
Unfortunately doesn't work on apps made with pre Android v4.0 SDK I use an SMS parsing app for bank notifications/login codes and it hasn't been updated since 2 years but works perfectly, just the settings are missing.

I found this discussion was very helpful, but it took me some time to work it out.
When the Assistant menu button is switched on (Settings - Accessibility - Dexterity and interaction), a blue symbol with four white squares appears. If this symbol is pressed, a menu pops up with a selection of available tasks. This includes (on page 2/4) a button called "More options". This is the extra Menu button that should be accessible from a long press of the Back button, but is not available in some apps.

Not happy with this at all. Whats wrong with the developers? Why take functionality away? Should be adding more! Why change things for the hell of it? Appart from just being plain annoying, buying the latest S7 edge phone out, and looking forward to trying ps1 emulation out, and cant use ePSXe save function now, or any app menu...
Hello All,
I found a fix. settings==>system==>Buttons==>Home Button. Change the action to open/close menu. or any of the buttons you see there. This works like a charm and if it's a button you dont normally use then even better cause you wont forget which one you chose.
Grilo.

Hello All,
I found a fix for this. settings==>system==>buttons==>Home button. I chose to change the double tap to open/close menu. You can choose any button on this page and then access the menu.
Hope this helps

This worked for me. It floats a circular object and you tap this and it gives you some quick one touch functions, one of those is the 3 dots in a vertical line, you tap that and your app will then behave as if you'd tapped a physical MENU button.
Thanks for the tip.
