[REQ] Turn off Soft Keys Lights - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm running CM10 with the NavBar mod and have no need for those gaudy soft keys to the left/right of the home button on the S3. How can I make them go away?
Figured it out. For others: ES File Explorer - go to /sys/class/leds/button-backlight and change brightness to 0.

in AOKP there is a setting in device options to turn the lights off, but I am wondering if there is a way to disable the keys altogether, ie. maybe a .zip or through a file explorer?

System>usr>keylayout > sec_touchkey. Open as text and put # in front of the first two lines like in the screenshot. Also, check out sec_keys to modify home key function. Just change from 'home' to 'camera' or 'power'

Had another thought, could I edit the home button to 'wake' and long press for camera?

The perfect combo.... it won't work though. If you change to camera it won't wake device. I've been setting it to power, as I didn't seem to use it for camera as much as I thought. And now with customizable Nav bar ring I have easy access to camera.
Also, wanted to add that a reboot is required after making the necessary changes..

Power button to take snaps??

can this b possible for galaxy fit....here's the link its possible for galaxy s...can we do it on fit??????
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453547:)
well the power button actually locks the camera on fit, so a modded version of the camera app could perhaps do the trick
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:24 PM ----------
perhaps you should give it a try.
I was asking my self the same question... The closest i got was this app on the market that lets you use the volume keys to take a snapshot. https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEwNCwiY29tLmJleW9uZHdlYi5yb2NrZXIuZnJlZSJd there is also a paid version.. google it
aaaa...
so, how we turn off our phone?
if power button to take snaps?
https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEwNCwiY29tLmJleW9uZHdlYi5yb2NrZXIuZnJlZSJd
App is force closing on my device, when I opened the app for the first time,I pressed the +volume for take a photo but suddenly the app hangs and it is not opening now.

You should be able to edit contacts that you have created. But you can't edit contacts that have come from Google+ solely.

Yea, good question. I'm a little bummed too that I gotta do it through Google contacts on the computer.
i had no issues editing my contacts with jelly bean. i just went to the app drawer>people> then clicked on a contact. then i hit the settings button (menu button) then clicked edit.

My menu button was the recent menu button. If u just pressed it real quick it was the settings button and if u held it down it would pop up the recent apps.

If anyone is still having trouble with this I found the solution:
Menu > Settings> Interface - System> Hardware Keys> select Enable Actions> and you can choose any of the 3 buttons to make a Long Press bring up the menu

Change Home Button Longpress

Does anyone know where the action for longpressing the home button is stored on TW roms? I'm on Synergy, and want to change the longpress of the home from the recent apps switcher to the menu button, but I cannot for the life of me find where that is stored. I found where nearly everything else is stored, but I just need to know where the longpress of the home button action is stored, so I can change it to MENU. Thanks!
There's an option to change hardware key settings on paranoid android. Its an aosp cm10 ROM.

It cannot be done to my knowledge unless the developer has incorporated it into the rom.

It CAN be done. You just need to find a launcher that supports it.
I use Nova launcher and you can assign an action to the home key to open whatever you want. It's not the longpress, its the press once for homescreen then when you're on the homescreen you press it again and another action comes up. Thats the action you can define using Nova.
Try this.

Does this still hold true? I have remapped my menu button to back and my back button to recent applications, but am now in need of a menu key. I would like to long press home to get menu. Any ideas on how I can do this?

I know this is a vague response but I don't know where exactly, just am about 99% sure it's code is found in b the android.policy.jar, as this is were the long press for menu/back is found my guess would be the home and power button coding is found in that .jar

[Mod] Enable Softkeys Mod

Coming from the Galaxy Nexus I always loved the soft keys and the ability to change them the way I like. Well the Galaxy SIII has physical ones so I found a mod that allows them to be seen at the bottom of the screen. This is not my work, it is posted over in other SIII forums and I was just the guinea pig to try here. Follow the direction below! PLEASE make a back up prior to even though you can mod it back!
** I am on clean rom 5.5.1 so it worked fine I have no idea if it works for others, try it and let me know! **
***** Please Make a Backup Before You Try*****
How To Enable
navigate to system/build.prop
go to the bottom of the page ( document )
add this line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
save
reboot
check
How To Disable
change this line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
to
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
in the build prop and restart.
How To Disable The Physical Buttons
navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
put a hash tag in front of the lines
key 139 menu
key 158 back
so they will look like
#key 139 menu
#key 158 back
save and reboot
How To Disable The Physical Lights at The Bottom
Go to display/touch key light duration and turn off
If you want to mod the soft keys further after enabling them decompile the systemui and go to the drawable-xhdpi and mod the TW pngs there then recompile and place into a flash able zip and flash in recovery!
The attached zip is a camera mod that allows you to use your volume up/down keys to take pics just in case the soft keys are larger than the camera switch! As usual make a back-up before flashing in recovery!
If you like or use this hit the thanks button please!

If you use text editor in root explorer you should be able to delete/undue the mod and reboot.

Anyway to get 2 button nav bar back on Android 10?

I saw the command that enables it, but doing that doesn't actually seem to do anything on my phone.
Is there a step I'm missing, or anything else I can do to get two button nav back?
Thanks!
Before you do the command you have to have the 3 button nav bar selected. Make sure USB debugging is on, and USB setting should be file transfer instead of charging the phone
---------- Post added at 03:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:53 AM ----------
If that works and you now have the 2 button setup after doing those steps, just know if you change back to gestures or make changes to the nabar, it'll go back to the 3 button. So you'll have to do those steps again if you want the 2 button back
That did it! Thank you!
