Why is everyone so rude - HTC Inspire 4G

I have been a member for some time now and xda mods and users are insane. We are losing people to other forums due to the fact whenever a person asks a question he is flamed by mods and other users ex. Wrong section search before you ask Wtf if someone has a question answer them. Half the time a user downloads a Rom and messes up there phone and they start to bug out cause they think they ****ed up there phone beoynd fixing and then they ask how to fix it and get told you are in wrong section and to use the search function (which sux I might add)They are coming here because we have the knowledge to help them. They are not coming here to get a attitude. Some of the users will help them but for the few that give them a hard time , think about if the shoe was on the other foot and you rude people needed help with something would you want someone to give u **** for asking a question. This was one of the best forums about 5 years ago now its not so great. That's just my 2 cents and I know I am posting in the wrong section. But that is what mods are for to move it into the right section, back in the day a mod would kindly say I moved your thread to this section end of story, with no flame and no need to make the poster feel like a ass

I was a complete noob only about 2 months ago, and I don't think it's too much to ask noobs to follow explicitly stated forum rules. People answering questions are doing that out of their own free will, donating their time, energy, and knowledge. And though moving threads is one of a mod's roles, they are donating time as well. We have no right to expect help or time from others, especially when we don't follow rules made to make XDA a more productive and useful place.
For example, it's a courtesy to devs to keep their threads clean, so they can figure out bugs and dev hints quickly and easily without sifting through junk. It lets them figure out problems faster and, therefore, makes it easier for them to dev the ROMs we all use. And even in the general forums, people don't want to see and answer the same vague and/or general question (eg. Which is the best ROM) once a week.
I obviously wasn't here 5 years ago, but I bet there were fewer people then, so there were fewer noobs and, therefore, fewer noob questions, so there were fewer people exasperated with noob questions, and therefore fewer noob answers. So that makes sense.
I want to make clear that I don't condone rudeness on the Internet any ore than elsewhere, but as long as no one is being actually rude, I don't think it's out of line for members to tell noobs to follow forum rules made for everyone's benefit.

To me, those responses seem perfectly justified. If the OP had simply looked at the Ace Think Tank thread, he would have found a clear, nicely formatted, step by step way to fix his problem. It's not members' responsibility to post him a link; it's his own responsibility to find information already so nicely created, packaged and placed, explicitly for noobs, for him to read.

Great devs have left because of these assholes sadly.

Rules are meant to be followed. If you're too much of a noob to understand why, then you didn't watch the video and need to read more and un noobify yourself. It's amazing how much laziness results in people feeling picked on. You're given the material and you need to make an effort to use it.

Yes there's a video because there's 4859572958352858.5 rules and you should know each and every one. You don't do it when buying a car but dammit you better read the terms and conditions of this forum. Soon enough you'll have to print em, sign in triplicate and mail in before posting.

That would be excellent! Just kidding. But most of the rules are pretty much common sense. Don't post in a forum clearly labeled for developers if you aren't a developer, don't ask questions that have already been answered, and dont be vague when asking for help.

I agree with people doing there own research, it does take time with trying to search for things, the first time I rooted took me 3-4 hours just to search and make sure I wasn't going to mess anything up. Then when I wanted a custom rom it was easy breezy because I knew the terms. Id still consider myself a noob, everyone's a noob in my book cause they learn everyday if theyel weren't whenever roms come out they wouldn't have any bugs or glitches...but they do and therefore they learn how to fix it.

You're as in you are. Not your. Man if you only read the dictionary jkjk. I agree SOME people may get mad and post inappropriate things but you have to read the rules and understand everything before posting. Instead of posting I search. I am on the app and I'm aware that searching isn't the best for the app BUT do you forget we have a browser on our phone as well as Google its not that they wake up and say "hey, today I think I'm going to troll Gizmoe(or said name) and be rude instead of answering". Its not their job to walk you through something if the answers there. I've had my own fights and misunderstandings on here with members but in the end they were right because I didn't read everything 114% so read before asking. And read again before asking. The devs are amazing at what they do and they don't need the stress of answering more questions then needed. The search bar is there for a reason. Take advantage of it. Or they may just go "here's said app/rom/theme/other use it." Thanks for listening and take the advice. READ AND RESEARCH <3 have a wonderful day.

Yea most people are jerks but if they weren't then all the noobs would be asking the same question over and over again. It's not hard if you research. When I was a noob I researched and when I was ready to root I researched more just incase anything bad would happen. People are just lazy and don't take the time to research.

For someone who's new you should really learn how to either voice your opinions eloquently or refrain from them altogether.
It is better that the user voiced his opinion so that a discussion could start to be able to clear any possible misconceptions or if so were the case, for the comunity to improve where it is lacking.

I think that perhaps you have missed the idea that this is a DEV's forum and not an Android 101 one. That means that you can get help if you do what you are supposed to, which is read, do research and then ask. If you mess your phone and you don´t have a clue of what you have done, you can blame no one for that. Belive me I have helped lots of people and even have writen guides and tutorials on how to sort the most common issues, but you usually find people asking the same questions without even doing a simple search. If you are willing to be part of a forum then you should comply with the rules. From the links you provided I don´t see nobody being rude but realistic. If you don´t know what you are doing or the risk that you are facing, then you should refrain from doing it instead of coming here and blame the tools and dev's.
The DEV's that have left XDA, at least in the case I am aware of, was not for everybody being rude, but for the moderators editing his comments to users. The real and annoying reason is to be dealing with noobs thinking dev's owe them answers and support and getting mad when they face reality.

Let me clear something up I was not saying that anyone was rude to me. I have been here long enough that I know what I can ask and what I have to search for on my own. I was referring to the way new people are treated for asking questions.

[Request] Use the search button first, please!

Hi everyone,
So I've seen this issue resurface many times in many different threads, most recently in the updating inspire thread. My requests are simple:
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FORUM, PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. IF THEN, YOU STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND, FEEL FREE TO ASK (AND MAKE SURE YOU MENTION THAT YOU TRIED).
IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO FLAME SOMEONE THAT DIDN'T SEARCH, BE POLITE. If you want to answer their question too, go ahead.
If someone doesn't answer their question but asks them to search first, please don't flame them either. It's absolutely useless to redo the debate that's been had many many times before. Some people prefer not to answer questions in these cases while others don't. Let's all live happily ever after and not get on each others' backs because we're all experienced and veteran users trying to help others out. There is no need to get testy or question why someone does or doesn't answer a question. To each their own.
Now, back to my ORD (obsessive rom-flashing disorder for you newbies)...
Agreed.
I try to be as polite as possible without compromising the message. Sometimes it's difficult not to come across like a jerk when all you have to communicate with is text and smilies.
I often start feeling bad, thinking I was too harsh, and end-up going back and trying to make amends, anyway.

I never feel bad about it.
I've been living in forums for far too long to fret over this. I have a whole like 15 posts here but started back over a yr ago with my Rhodium. Now I'm getting into the more modded styles and am enjoying passing on what I've read here even gotten a few other friends to join. All cause this forum has a huge database of knowledge with an actual small amount of flaming.

I try not to get to upset or flame to much. But sometimes I cant help it lol. I just had someone tell me not to be a douche when I gave them the answer and told him to search. He said theres 214 pages on this thread. I have to admit I lost it called him out and said my fair share of bad words lol. And told him exactly what i searched for and what page to find the answer on. There is no excuse for ignorance or stupidity in this age of google and forums. I have come to find more often then not its laziness and just wanting someone to give them the answer rather then find it out. I personally find that I learn more when I search and usually find even more useful info out. That's my 2 cents.

There is now excuse to reading; almost any answer is already posted. when I first joined XDA I spent 2 days solid just reading. If one does half as much as I did, you end up with a good sense of how rooting, flashing, customizing the Inspire is done and also use the IRC chat rooms.
Guys don't let up! I never got hurt by anyone here, it only inspires to search, read, AND LEARN!!!
Holding someone's hand never encourages or lets them learn!

I shouldn't post this here, since this thread goes against flaming, but you were out of line. And by the way **** face,I unchecked the tell HTC box,it didn't work. You are the type of user who completely does not care about anything but trying to prove there intelligence. Here is what a user should do when having a problem:
1: read,read......read!
2: read over all you read, again
3: do a couple searches
4: retry what you did that caused the problem
5: after all that fails, ask the question you need an answer too
I DID ALL OF THAT YOU ASS.
I read all 200 and something pages of the thread before i ever asked my question, and as hard as it is for you to beleive,I read over what I was looking for.
And before any of you write this up as flaming, his whole post here was flaming me. Have a nice day captain douchebag

The reason search isn't as effective it could be is because there is so much duplicate content from noobs asking the same quetsions over and over.
In a way XDA site has become a end user support site more so than a tech/dev site.

Its not about whether or not people should search, im sure alot do and alot dont. Problem is some the the questions they are asking might be answered to someone who already knows the answer. To the one asking the question it was only partially answered in the post they searched for, then u get these forum nazi's jumping all over them saying search search search, usually the one saying that says it for post count or just to have something to say period, because they dont have any answers.
If i know the answer, I will answer it if it wasnt already answered. There are plenty nice peeps on here that answer, and not half assed. What is clear to peeps that have a good understanding of what there doing to begin with, is not always clear to someone with little to no knowledge of modding there phones.
Thanks to everyone here that does have the patience to help all the noobs out. If everyone was a smartass about everything what good would the forums be.

That's what all of this is about... Community moderation.. reminding people of the rules when mods aren't around to do it, which is a lot of the time.
But, as I'm finding out, it's not a very popular thing with a lot of people. I got accused of "acting like god of this forum," because I reminded someone, after that person had their question answered by another poster, to search a little better next time. It was one of the most commonly questions here.

Your rite. See knewbs can be aggrivating, but we were once all one our selves. And yes, knewbs should search and read first, and if they have a problem, then ask a question. But someone shouldn't jump down there throat off the bat, assuming they didn't search first. I mean, sometimes I have a hard time finding something by googlin it and my gf will find it with one search LOL. So its not just the knewbs clustering the place, its also people who Jump down there throat and cause an argument that lasts 2 pages worth of thread. Here's an example of how I think it should be done
Knewb: " i tried to install android evelution and keep getting reboots"
Member: " did you search?"
Knewb: "yes and I can't find anything on it"
Member: "ok try full wiping, then reflashing. If that doesent work, post back here and im sure we can help you out"
See,like give them an easy answer ya know? And if they cone back saying it didn't work, then its time to be the members of a great forum, and help the guy, atleast tell him what to read through to resolve the problem. On the other hand,if a knewb comes off like there not even willing to try and help there selves, then don't even respond. In the long run it will save a lot of space on the forum. Instead of being jerks,we can guide the knewbs to being a intelligent user, that way they will be the ones answering questions down the road. Of we did that, then it would save time for the more experienced users to make great stuff for us here at xda. I'm not taking up for knewbs here,I'm just saying that there not the only ones clustering the place. And I'm not talking about the guys who come off as a jerk because there responding to something over the internet,I mean the ones who snap on a knewb, without leaving nothing but an half ass answer, and a rude comment that leads to a huge argument.
My 2cents,I have plenty more

Sometimes I come off as taking up for the knewbs, but its just that the people that's been here a while or have intelligence about all this, can make this place better, and control situations if we just do like you said, and say hey "try searching a little bit next time bud" instead of "omg you rlidiot,go search before you post" ya know?

Community issues: Campaign for a fresh start

Hi guys,
You probably already know me from my other threads, mostly the support thread. If not, I would like to give a brief introduction: in june, I received an upgrade from at&t and decided to purchase the infuse 4g my first android phone.
I was thrilled with its performance, and the community started off strong. ROM's were coming out surprisingly fast, actually too fast for me to figure out which one I liked best.
I began to see that the developers threads were getting cluttered up with silly, often repeated questions, so I created a support thread to help lessen the load for the devs. I know it wasn't a perfect solution, but I helped build a small team of people who have been incredibly helpful so far, who I am beyond impressed with.
Now comes the bad part. Even my support thread, originally designed to avoid clutter, has become a landfill of lazy people who don't look for the answer to their question which has been asked and answered 30 times already.
All the devs have been subjected to so much bs that they are afraid to even release their work. Everyone flames everyone like crazy, but none of you guys can help the community. I am disgusted by most of your behaviors, and hope that you see how childish your arguments are.
Now, for my point: this community is still young, and we have accomplished so much already. We have the chance to have one of the strongest development teams out there, and a kick-ass community, in which we look out for each other's best interest.
I would like to propose a way to get things started again: we need a campaign to delete clutter/flame.
Neo works hard, but we need to help him out. Everyone, I urge you to look through your posts, find bad ones, and mark them in some way to be deleted. This is in order to resuscitate this potentially unbeatable community.
Thank you all, and I hope you understand my intentions

Moderator's(Neo) intervention was required as gtg's thread was going out of control.
as after his intervention members have started behaving themselves and Neo has removed/locked unnecessary threads this forum is at peace.
let the dead bury the dead and do not remind people again of what happened.
Just post relevant stuff and that is sufficient for everybody.
P.S.
if issues are not resolved then it never will be as no one will accept blame and any such thread will eventually result in blame game.
right now see that people are just paying attention to information, now calling them for campaign is also a distraction.

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion with me in a respectful manner. However, I feel that the issue is not yet resolved, and the general forum is definitely the appropriate place to post it. The development is virtually at a standstill and I am not talking about gtg, but the other devs and would be devs who are now discouraged. I find that although your response was polite, it was completely inappropriate, especially considering what my original post stated. If you have an issue with my posts please message in private as opposed to calling me out/ racking up your post count.

I doubt the devs read half the crap, and know that most if the quiet folks really enjoy there work, and in no means are they scared to
release there work, but rather punish and don't release, which its necessary to shut alt of people up, can always find them on irc

I'm glad you guys are willing to help out in getting this show on the road. This can only be done by helpful members, especially the ones who read the rules and abide by them.
I think the main issue at hand is that people tend to speak their mind too often, in situations where a moderator should intervene. The best course of action is to report a post or PM a mod (for the Infuse, that's me ) and let them know what's going on.
I'm not on the board 24/7, so I too can miss stuff. But there are ALWAYS other mods who look after the Infuse forums when I can't, so reporting is the BEST thing you can do.
About "rebooting" the community: People are already getting annoyed by the lazy, demanding types, who don't use the search and just post another question which has been asked a million times before. Well, at least if it's in the Q&A forum, it's controlled. So that's our main focus for now: get people to ask their questions there, instead of the development or general forums.
This thread can stay open, as long as it's constructive criticism. All ideas are welcome, as long as it helps us out, right?

Neo just as you posted this I was editing my post in this thread.
I was concerned that this thread doesn't become a place for blaming other members or finding faults of others.as long as this stands for supporting devs my vote is there.
Right now I think forum is going well

I wasn't aware that there was a Q&A forum until you mentioned it. I'm using the xda app and have the SAMSUNG Infuse 4g as my favorite, but within that category, the Q&A forum isn't listed. I clicked onto the forum tab and scrolled till I found the Q&A forum. Yeah people can search for it, but I wasn't even aware that forum existed. I just suggest adding the forum into the Infuse 4g category. I think there will be less questions asked in the wrong section if it was listed.

I think alot of people like myself are new android users. I knew nothing 3 months ago about Android then I got the infuse my first smartphone which seems like its a lot of peoples first android. So I admit I posted questions then went and found the answer when I got no replies. I think people just need to understand that this is very fresh for a lot of people. It was ridiculous on gtg's post but on the other hand people got so angry at othrs that knew very little.

And I think another reason why we see a lot of similar topics being posted especially regarding support is because new users (like myself) feel we need support about our specific situation, even tho we may have already read a similar thrend. Its happened to me were I posted help and either ill get a smart reply ie "its been posted 10 times already" or they may reply with a link. The link will be exactly what I've already read but, the thrend doesn't 100% pertain to my situation so I'm afraid I may mess up even more if I follow those steps (its actually already happened,my first brick) This is why we may see a lot of repeat thrends. I usually will encourage my support giver to pm me but I hardly receive any.

Why not have a separate section for rom support? I realize that sounds goofy but in the rom thread could be development related questions and in support section help and tech support?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Well, xda-developers is for... DEVELOPERS. Although most people on xda are in it for the custom roms and leeching of apps.
I agree there should be some kind of a "noob sandbox" where new users can ask their questions and get answers from more seasoned users/devs. But how do you guys propose we do that?

Please Do Not Read

Ok I'm gonna go ahead and make this thread because I know that I'm not the only on that this is pissing off.
1. If you are new to the sgs4g forum then read the rules ( because this obviously isn't happening)
2. "I'm a newbie" or "sorry I'm a noob" is not an excuse
3. Use search, we here at the sgs4g are not cha cha. We are not here to search for you. If you legitimately search and can't find anything, then ask
4. If you post a question or topic in one thread don't post it in another just because you aren't getting the responses you think that you should.
5. Do not pester our devs about an up and coming ROM they are working on, they are doing there best and will release it when done. some of us have personal lives and families, please respect that.
6. Do not post question inquiring about anything illegal or asking someone how do do something illegal, we will not help you.
7. Haven't seen it in a while but, DO NOT ask anyone for their EFS folder. This folder holds very sensitive information to the phone and the phone owner. If someone was to give you this folder and you have their imei then the person helping you get it from runs the risk of being black listed by their service provider, they also run the risk of "earning" a class c felony (if im not mistaken, i do know it is a felony though) if the person asking stole the phone and is wanting to change imei.
Please enjoy yourself here and enjoy the great roms and mods our devs provide.
Sorry if someone doesn't like the fact that I posted this but obviously nobody reads the rule thread, and some members are becoming a problem because of that .

Thanks it to a while...but here it is.
i always search for the answers to my questions before i bug anyone on here. you would think it would b common sense

Did you know?

Ok, it's pretty sad that the SGS4G forum has the issues that is does. I have another phone and have been in it's XDA forum as well, to see that people in there aren't as lazy and stupid as some are in this forum. They actually READ the OP, search for answers to their questions before posting them and when they cannot find the answers, then they post to the forum in the appropriate spots with logcat (if available) included! Amazing isn't it... This is why we have lost DEVs. STUPIDITY!
Did you know (and I speak form experience) that if you do not read and follow an OP on how to flash a ROM you could end up with:
1) A bricked phone (super hard bricked too... meaning, NON RECOVERABLE!)
2) A trashed sim card (yeah, I know it isn't that abd, but it is still a pain in the ass to call and deal with customer support to order a new one and then go to the store to pick it up or skip the call and go down to your service provider and pay up to 35 bucks for a new one... that can get pricey after just a few "I do what I want" flash mistakes.
3) A bad flash resulting in an unstable unusable ROM. And then when you decide to flash it correctly, you have lost that time...forever... Oh, and let's not forget the time and space you wasted on here asking the same question 300 other dummies already asked.
There are so many BAD possibilities that could result in not following directions. Didn't your momma teach you to follow directions? There was a reason for it! Plus, didn't your daddy teach you to help yourself first, and then when you had exhausted all options, ask for help?
Granted, I have made these same mistakes before. But I have learned. But there just seems to be SOOOOOOO many of you that just don't get it! To the point that I have actually seen some one ask the a question by quoting the post that contained the answer! That is purely STUPID!
Is this a flame? You damn right it is! But I am not only here to vent my frustrations out on you, but to help you.

This has been my homework lately. I think it would help the community to read the same thing. Although it may not really matter. As the warden in Cool Hand Luke so eloquently said, "Some men you just can't reach." I'm also going to try and learn how to read the darn things so I can try to help out even further. But since I'm not terribly familiar with Linux commands it may take a little while.

I trully believe you have good intentions and you want to become this phone dev, but you write too much, quote too much and generally flud all the threads.
I don't think it helps you on the long run. If you want to be a dev - read, search, then read and search and if you really have to, post a private message, otherwise you seem like a noob calling yourself a dev in progress.
Read the 'how to decompile an apk' in the modding forum and all the 'how to make a custom ROM' general forum threads, download root explorer for the trial and error and notepad++ for the updater script and make a productive contribution to the community.
Good luck.

Lol nice there thomas. Also, I agree about quoting long posts. I use to cut them just to let the people know what I'm answering or just mention @username and write. Also, no need for signatures or wether you are sending the post from xda premium or free or whatever phone.
In my opinion, this forum sucks because of little moderation by those who can. Threads and posts need to be deleted every now and then. I have made a ticket with xda regarding this but they told me to use the report button... bah. We all have to admit than sometimes threads get to the 1000's post and its difficult to keep track of every post so one has to ask same question because of the useless crap posted and I understand doesn't have an option.
Anyway, if I got to be a noob or a disturbing person... sorry, not my intention as I use to read more than post. If I flamed you... well you probably deserved it and I'm not sorry. I hope this forum gets some massive clean up one day and to see everything organized.
At the end of the day a forum is used to post... and people will post what they want even if its crap like what I just wrote in this post. Lol

Yes, I'm being sarcastic, but I think some of this is getting out of hand, one extreme to another. From little policing, by those that should, to over policing by those who re self-appointed, Vigilante's as it were.
There are moderators, there are tools to be used for reporting specific threads or posts in case they are overlooked.
Use those tools enough and the PTB's will start paying more attention to this forum maybe, and keeping it a bit more cleaned up.
Our mod seems to have a lot of other forums to police as well... so maybe we can end up with one who has more time to keep an eye on this place.

None taken, it's extremely hard to offend me anyway.
The XDA app and Tapatalk both add that little signature line by default. It's a single line and takes up less space than most other signatures (my own included, although I did drop my graphic at least)
And yea, people will be people, no matter what the rest of us say or do we're going to continue to see peeps that don't bother to search, they just want someone to spoonfeed them.
They are the same people who, after reading app and/or rom descriptions install/flash and then complain it's not what they expected, and they want this/that/or the other added to it, or removed from it, and they want it now.
Mostly this is because the whole world revolves around them, and these devs are here solely to provide them with everything, for free, without complaint, in a timely manner (timely being instantly!)
No matter how many posts are made referencing the proper way to do things, these same people will ignore them, because they know that the rules don't apply to them, those rules are for the 'other people', the ones the world doesn't revolve around.
So I use my own rules in regards to those wonderful folks. I flag/report the trolls, point out threads that need removed, help those that seem truly lost, yet not demanding, point others to the door.
The mods do respond, usually pretty quickly, to reported threads and posts. They just seem to stealth in and handle it.
I made use of it last night for a thread, when I got up this morning, the thread was gone.

Stop being rude

I love XDA. I learned how to root my first phone and continue to find my ROMs and mods here. I couldn't imagine owning an android without this place. When I first started my rooting experience, I wouldn't have made it without the community here. However, with that being said, I took a lot of flack asking questions in the wrong section or asking questions that were TOO simple. I still see it. Continuously. Worse than before. So, to you, those of whom I speak, I send a msg.
Stop being know-it-alls and dicks and ass holes! YOUR NOT COOL! Talking all big and smart on a forum? Where you'll never see or have physical contact with those you pick on? Yea, there ya go....... Maybe you are cool.......... Hmm? No, your not.
I know this post will go unheeded and I'm sure ill receive the flack myself. I usually just ignore the negativity but I saw a post earlier that really bothered me. I can only imagine the difficulty in keeping this place friendly and my own post may go against my msg, but it had to be said.
P.S. Hey dicks, stop being dicks.

I'm not trying to be classified as one of the people which you're speaking about, but it is annoying to see things that obviously are in the wrong section. Example, this thread's title is a question, so it should be in the Q&A section.
Another thing is when users ask questions when it has been discussed many times before and they did not use the search feature.
Bottom-line, it's annoying. That's why some people get rude.
EDIT: Now this is my view and opinion on the subject you brought up, don't get angry and start slurring hateful things just because someone sees things differently than you.

Its the phone I guess. I never saw that many jerks on all the other forums I visited in the past.
Pathetic...
Opinions are great. They are a must. I have no problem with them whatsoever. How they are expressed though, that is what is a problem. Your edit seemed designed to try and bring out anger and slurs. It usually does.
Lol, my point exactly! Which area is correct? You think q&a, I think general fits best. The subject heading is in the form of a question, but this is more of a general discussion. Thats my intent anyway. Again, its opinion and how its expressed is what's important. Also, is it a big enough deal to make a fuss over, or is just someone looking to be mean.
A new user wouldn't be accustomed to the layout and the strict demands of some users. Thats what I consider understandable ignorance.
The comment that got to me was in the SG3 forum. Although I check out the Nexus, Rezound and skyrocket forums often and see the same thing.

Despite the general topic, it should be in the Q&A because it is being shown as a question.
Also, some people are just like that. You know how people get behind a screen. I do agree though, a lot of users on hear feel as if because they're knowledgable in something they act as if they're on a higher level than others. That's not right, and is unfair for those just trying to get help and learn. Instead that person is hit with flaming from all directions by tech hipsters.

Your right. I know I'm being naive, but I'm hoping that by posting this, some might see it and take it easy.
The rude things I said, were in the hope that I could draw the angry posters in here and then turn them on to calm discussion. Again, naive, I know. But id like to come on here and read through the posts instead of going straight to the links for my downloads.

I'm looking through the general thread and although the topics may not be in the form of a question, the actual discussions are.

Sorry, what I was explaining before was specific to your thread.
You are correct though, if the content within the thread is a question, it should be in the Q&A.
I think most users that post questions in the General section are new, and don't know their way around. Anytime I see a question, I promptly tell them there is a Q&A section, the try to help.

What gets me is when people say "sorry if this has been asked but I searched everywhere and couldn't find an answer" when they clearly didn't do a search. Especially when their question is such a common one that it was asked and answered in 4 other threads that day. As someone who spends a lot of time on xda, and a lot of time going out of my way to answer questions for people, I find it very annoying and borderline insulting. Don't lie and say you searched when I know you didnt. This is generally the only time I will reply in a snarky manner.

That's a great point with which I agree.

This issue comes from people coming here thinking it is a support forum when it is far from that. This is a development forum which means you ARE expected to put in the time to research issues before posting. This seldom happens and people get flamed. While I don't allow people to go off on new people I don't overly blame them. When i joined XDA I knew better then asking a question before I spent at least 2 hours searching and reading. If I did I was flamed to the high heavens and made to feel like I didn't belong. Which of course I didn't. Not until I learned what a development forum was all about.

'I couldn't imagine owning an android without this place'
Couldn't agree more.
Mods can move threads and people can use the search function, so everyone can contribute to easing this issue.

Just ignore the question then your not required to answer ..if u have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all ..but I do know how you feel ..either way I still just politely answer their question because if I was in their shoes I'd want someone responding to me politely ..its a forum not a YouTube comment section lol

Whats pretty odd/annoying is that there always a "I BRICKED MY PHONE!!!!" thread here on General at least once a week. Whats even more annoying is that most of the OP's have common phones (Galaxy series, HTC's and so on) that there is a 90% chance that it has a device forum, Mine doesnt have one, so I havent rooted it yet, But even with these people, I still love XDA forums! (even if im probably the only one that likes Apple)
People here seem to be barely suppressing buttfrustration. Let the butthurt flow through you.

agree with both sides of the discussion.
however IMO, if you end up replying to a thread saying:
" noob, use the search feature man!!" or "-devs please move/lock thread"
the effort you spent typing out that ****, you could have simply answered the OP's question/help or whatever, am i wrong?
sometimes i see a question from a newbie that basically can be answered in 1 or 2 sentences but instead all i see is "use the search-feature, omg what a noob. do you not see the search button? devs lock thread plz".
yeah i understand if the OP could be trolling and or his post is tl;dr but to reject/flame even the simplest of things is absurd IMO.
Sometimes people do search but get no results.
At least if you're posting using tapatalk that is, have also had this problem using the website interface, as the search feature for xda often has days where it just returns no results and I have to try searching xda using google.
So it is possible some people genuinely did search and yet find nothing and so they post and risk getting picked on for doing so.
However I've only had problems at xda from die hard fanboys (of all platforms), in general most people at xda are very helpful and most rudeness comes from people who think they are superior and forget they were not always so well versed in the use of their preferred platform.
Those who want to be obnoxious will always be that way, but then if you're using a forum you have to expect idiots and not let them get to you so much.
At the end of the day it's just an idiot being big behind a screen and a username to boost their sense of superiority, it's sad they feel the need to do so but those that do will carry on regardless so all that can be done is to see them for who they are and not let them get to you.

I do not agree with this one bit. Just because a topic has a question mark, it does not belong in Q&A. Q&A is for topics that the user genuinely needs an answer, not for a topic that has no definitive answer and is meant to spark conversation.

From what I see, the two main questions are always asked in the General section.
1. What phone should I get?
2. Can someone help me with this device?
Those are flat out questions. Even though some maybe have a more broad spectrum of answers that can become a general conversation, it is still a question, regardless of how simplistic the question is.
EDIT: That's just my view I guess. You have a point though, and some topic do start general conversations.
