Camera flash problem Help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have spent 3 days with my S3 love it. This morning i opened the camera app a snap a quick picture of something that caught my attention on the way to work. I go into the camera settings to turn on the flash since it was still dark out and the flash wont turn on when i take a picture in a very low light enviorment. Am i missing something or did i discover a new issue? Any ideas?

fix for the flash and shutter speed on camera??

Is there a way to make our flash not quite as obnoxious (it is on for like 5 seconds, then off, then on again for another 2 or so before taking the picture...), and also make the camera take the picture a little more quickly??
I noticed this last night.

Are you using the LG camera app? The flash comes on initially to allow the camera to focus more accurately. Then it flashes again for the actual exposure. You can mess around with the flash and focus settings to find the settings you like. It doesn't personally bother me though that the flash works this way because it makes for a better focused image.

Yes, it is good for focusing on static images, but for anything you want to take of picture of more quickly (people smiling, which no one likes to have to do for 10 seconds when it could just be 1 or 2) or any other action shot, it fails. If you're at all familiar with the Samsung Fascinate, the flash for that is much quicker, and yet its pictures are just as crisp and focused...
I've tried messing around with the focus settings but haven't found one to help speed up the flash and shutter.
Okay, just figured out that if you focus manually, the flash is instant. This is a good fix for all low- and medium-light situations, but it is no fix when it's really dark. The problem, of course, is that you can't manually focus when it's really dark because you the subjects don't show up and thus can't be focused on... So is there a work-around for these situations, or is that the time we leave it on auto focus and just endure the long-ass flash?
One workaround I've found is that in auto-focus mode if you press and hold the shutter button it will focus but won't take the photo until you release the shutter button. When you do release it, it takes the photo without delay. Its not effective in every situation but it helps.
I also turned off the instant preview and that makes it much quicker to take multiple photos in succession.

Are you using a Class 2 microSD, by chance?
Yes I am

I had an issue last week like this, actually. I was outside and every time I went to take a picture the phone just went black, and I had to do a full power-up. I noticed that when I shut the flash off, it worked fine. But then later, with the flash on, it took pictures okay.
So not sure what the problem was as it was not consistent but yet, I have had this issue.
thats odd i never had that happen , using class 2 16gb from HD2.
I had this issue on my phone all I did to fix it tapping the restore defulte setting on the camera app

Tab 2 3113 camera problem.

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with their stock tab 2 ( P3113 IMM76D UEBLG2 ) while taking pictures outdoors ?
Whenever I try to take a picure outdoors, mine takes a blank grey picture or locks up and I end up having to reboot and no pic. Have tried factory wipe and fresh install, same problem.

I am having the same problem. Indoor pictures are fine, outdoor pictures are all gray. Very frustrating. Same model and build. Thinking about taking it back.

Try updating to the latest stock rom. Kidney poker has rooted and deoxed it for us. I've experienced definite improvements from the update.

I tried GT-P3113][4.0.4] - Stock Rooted De-Odexed -Base: IMM76D.P3113UEBLG5, continued to have same problem. Went back to HOME_P3113UEALD3_378347_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 and problem seems to go away.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I started having this same problem yesterday morning. Shooting outdoor images shows only "gray" ... indoor images are fine.
The only fix I could find was to use another camera app. Camera Zoom FX, Camera 360, Paper Camera and Instagram all work fine for taking photos outside. However, Samsung should fix this problem but I wouldn't hold my breath!
Well, samsung was of no help. They acted oblivious to any problems.
Samsung seemed to think if it did this outside, it should do it inside also.
Wow, alott of help samsung was.

Does anyone think this might be isolated to a few defective units or is common in all of tab 2's?

If you guys narrow down what cam is working ill swap it. Looks like P3113UEALD3 maybe works? If we get a few people to confirm ill start using that cam for the updates untill sammy works it out
The old version is deff. still working for me.

I just took my P-3113 tablet outside and took a few pictures.
No problems at all.
My build number is IMM76D.P3113UEBLG2. Android 4.0.4.
Seems to make a difference which direction the camera sensor is and the direction of the sun.
Also how bright it is outside when the tab takes the grey pics.
Sometimes a few pics will come out good, then if u keep taking pics, they come out blank grey or the tab locks up and I have to reboot.

I have noticed that you can force it to take pictures if you dump the resolution down to 1.4m. This issue is really annoying it's obviously a software issue with the stock camera app as 3rd party apps work just fine.
Same issue here on P3100. Mine usually freezes and I had to do a full reboot for other apps to be able to use the camera again. Guess there isn't a solutionnafter all. Maybe a ROM update will fix this but only God knows when Samsung will release an update. Nice moves Samsung.

My device is P3100 India. Maybe you or someone else can extract the Camera apk or a Titanium Backup of the app and we can try that on our devices. I'm hoping it works.
Found a solution. Reboot to recovery, wipe dalvik. I just did that like 5 minutes ago, clicked about 10+ pictures in bright sunlight and everythings working great so far. Hoping this is it.

[Q] Buzz sound in camera app / recording video

I have a samsung infuse on official 2.3.6 GB. I have a problem with its camera app.
Whenever i open the camera app, there is a continuous buzz sound from the lens (not the speaker of phone) and as soon as i tap the screen (to focus) it goes away or if i shake the phone it goes away. If i change to video recording mode, the sound starts again and since the tap on screen does not work here, i have to shake the phone a bit to make the sound go away.
Is there any way to fix this ? The sound goes away when i close the camera app
Also i believe the pics are coming a bit blurry and in video, we have some lines (artifacts) going bottom to top as it is like when we point any camera to any old CRT TV we see continuous lines going due to screen refresh. Not sure i am explaining properly.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Are you running with the CPU over-clocked? There was at least one other report of this issue possibly related to that.
Try dropping your max to 1200mhz to see if that helps.
Otherwise, go back to a pure stock setup.. Including kernel.. to rule out custom firmware entirely.

I have never rooted this device and never put any custom ROM in it. Always used Kies to update to GB from Froyo.
Are you suggesting me to go back to Froyo (using Odin or Hiemdell) and see if it eliminates the issue ?
I know it is a hardware related noise and mostly from lens of camera.

You could try froyo just to rule out gb, but my guess is hardware. A Google search turns up some hits on the sgs2 as well as the infuse. Forcing the camera to focus can provide temporary relief. Some have tried toggling the flash.
Replacing the part may be the best option.

Is the camera it makes sound when u turn it on reason it aligns the focus and moves the lens to get the focus and that is when is makes sounds.

Duo camera issues.

I keep getting a message about duo camera lenses being blocked. Does not happen in portrait mood but always in landscape mode it happens while I hold the phone by the very edges. I am inside my house could it be that there is not enough light?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Could there be dust or a fingerprint on one/both of the lenses?
Also if you're using a case, make sure that it isn't covering either lens as well.
No case and I don't see anything on the lens. I guess it's just mine. Contacted HTC and they said it's an app interfering with the camera because when they had me boot the phone into safe mode, the problem does not occur. I don't have anything downloaded that's camera related.

By any chance does that happen when you block the sensor next to the front camera?
Idk why would that matter taking a picture with the rear camera?

The issue has not been happening lately. I didn't change anything. Anyway I didn't really buy the phone for the camera.

If anyone can figure out what app may be interfering, I'd be curious to know as I'm getting this error also. I also don't have any camera apps.
I can cause the message to pop up in auto mode by getting the lens close enough to something where the top lens doesn't see the same thing as the main lens but I'm guessing you weren't very close to anything since you were in landscape mode.

This. I've noticed myself when taking a picture and something is closer to the left side in landscape mode.
The whole reason behind this camera structure is for depth. That is why 1 lens is slightly recessed to the other. Its provides better distinction making it similar to the human eye. Yes, one eye is slightly recessed to the other, allowing this to occur. We are smarter and faster at processing that information better than the phone can, so essentially, if something appears closer to the left lens, it will error out.
Fix, cover both lenses, move camera, uncover.

Duo Camera Blocked
I am also having this issue. My original M8 camera worked fine but I swapped it due to an unrelated issue. Now, whenever I load the camera app, it says "Duo Camera Blocked". Obviously there is nothing in the way and I have no third party camera apps installed. In fact I have the exact same setup as the previous phone which didn't have an issue.
I'm starting to think that this is a hardware issue and will need replacing. Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Yes my friend
Anyone help it ?
I just got my M8 today, played with it for a couple of hours before unlocking the bootloader. Restored titanium backup after unlocking, everything was fine until I opened the camera. I also keep getting the "duo camera blocked" warning, I tried taking pictures for an hour straight but the warning persists and I can't use U-focus or any other duo feature on every picture I take.
I'm on stock ROM and recovery and unrooted. Tried to restoring factory settings, no success. Just updated to the newest firmware (1.54.401.10) via OTA but still no working duo camera.
Should I sent it back for repairs (with relocked bootloader) or has someone found a solution for this problem?
Hey I started the thread, but I can not explain how my issue as just gone away. But I think I stated I don't use the camera that much but have recently been using it without issue. Strange. When in doubt I would just exchange if that's an option for you.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know this is probably very obvious, but make sure your finger isn't covering the Duo camera at all. I've had that message a couple times and it was due to my finger blocking it. You won't see it on the screen.
I'm definitely not blocking the second camera. I tried taking pictures in portrait and landscape, inside and outside, with every possible grip, there is no dirt or dust on the lenses, it just doesn't work..
I just got on the phone with customer support, they advised me to sent it back for repairs.
After calling I just noticed something that might explain what's wrong with my phone. If I look very closely at the second camera lens, it seems like it's tilted sideways a couple degrees. I attached a photo taken through a mirror (I don't have another camera at the moment). Can someone confirm that it's not supposed to be this way?
Its hard to tell in the pic, but to me it looks like the Duo is aimed slightly up. Try taking the pic a bit farther back from the mirror and without the case. Also I've found it's very sensitive to fingerprints causing slightly blurry photos, and you have one on the main lens. See if you can get a slightly clearer one.
Here's a better picture, taken with another camera. I drew a red square to show how the lens appears to be tilted.
I'm sending the phone back for repairs tomorrow, I hope they don't make a big deal of the bootloader being re-locked.
