Alright, what the hell is "orange peel?" - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Everyone talks about this in reference to screen protectors, but thread after thread, I have no idea what it means. So, what is it?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Idk either
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

It means it is not smooth but has a dimply texture like an orange. Sometimes zagg invisible shields get accused of having this but it is far less dramatic than the texture of an oranges skin.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium

Its what you get when you use a zagg type screen protector. Heres an example:

See how it looks somewhat like an orange peel?
Mainly wet apply screen protectors have this type of issue. Some do, some don't. This is why I prefer dry apply ones, the better ones give more of a glass like feel.

I had to google it myself when I first got a screen protector

From what folks on here have posted, the more recent "Zagg HD" versions of the Zagg protectors have much less orange peel effect. But I can't say personally, as I haven't tried them.
Bodyguardz and Skinomi typically have less orange peel than at least the "older" version Zagg, and are great protectors.
Some can't stand the orange peel effect, and one of the main reasons for not using a protector. But for many people, its not very noticeable (especially once the screen is on), particularly with the brands I've mentioned, and depending on the light.

Oh, whoops. I thought it was XDA slang or something
Although for what it's worth, I picked up a Zagg HD sort of hastily (found some very very tiny scratches on my screen and panicked) and applied it. "Orange peel" is noticeable with the screen off if you're looking for it, but compared to the iPhone 4s/Galaxy S2 in the above photo, it's very minimal. Protector feels just like glass.
Also, I think I'll start calling it "lemon peel" to throw people off

I thought it was a skin condition that most middle age women develop on their hind quarters - also called the golf ball effect.....

So Zaggs, have the peel, I did not know that.
I can steer clear of them by a country mile.
For $20, I had guys in kiosk apply my ghost armor little less then a month ago now almost.
I like the fact if it comes off or gets destroyed, they slap another one for $5, as long as you have the original piece left, whether front or rear halves.
Clear an smooth is the only way to roll for me, sorry if this sounds like an endorsement, it's not, just overly happy with GA.

New device. No curved glass. Quick post.

Wow! Really, htc needs to check themselves on this. That's crazy that it has no curved glass.
What screen does it have?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Screen protectors should fit better and not curl up on the edges.
How's the screen look, resolution, viewing angle, colors?
Any difference in how responsive it is?
Where was the phone made?
WTF, that's so strange. What's the build date on that?

Screen is solid and full of color from all viewing angles. It does NOT wash out at all.
Responsiveness is way better. Scrolls with no lag through the carousel.

Awesome device, no problems to speak of really. I looked for the curved glass as soon as it was out if the box in-store. Thought that it was just my perception and that the "curve" must've been a very slight one.
I like it though! No complaints here!!!!!

Yeah, I read what you wrote. Did you read what I wrote?
It's been reported that some screen protectors curl up on the edges of the curved glass models. This one shouldn't have that problem which is a good thing.
Thanks for posting the pic and the info.
Uhhhhh......That is just like any other device we have. Look at the first picture; the screen protector edges is not sticking the screen. I still have my original plastic on while waiting for mine and it is the same exact thing. I'll post a picture
How do we find out if we have curved glass? Only thing I can feel (can't see) is a slight curve up at the very top where the glass meets the ear speaker area.

Not sure if you are responding to my post, but to clarify, I am aware he doesn't have a permanent screen protector on there in those pics. It's just the temporary one that ships with the phone.
I was just saying that proper screen protectors can be installed that go all the way to the edge of the glass and not curl up on this flat screen, unlike the curved screen model. There have been several posts in other threads about this issue.

Given my job in public safety and my severe interest in mountain biking and snowboarding, the defender will manage my hobbies better than my HTC pouch.
I have the blue commuter case from AT&T's store. It's big, but worth it IMO. Wish they carried the black or at least gray version, but whatever. Zagg screen protector and Otterbox Commuter is a nice combo. I've already dropped it once though lol
My local AT&T store happened to have the Defender case in stock so I picked one up and they are really nice. I'm amazed at how much thinner Defender cases have gotten. I guess Otterbox decided to use their "new" silicone for the One X case and it has a lot of grip and doesn't seem to attract lint as much.
On the downside, while Otterbox makes great holsters, they decided to put two contact points on each side which makes it difficult for a quick release. Also, the built-in screen protector is still a bad idea.
Al in all, even with the high price and a couple little quirks it's a great case and will probably be my primary case.

For anyone who decides to remove the built-in screen protector, it seems like a simple operation. I went to cut it out but it just popped out and then I was able to remove the glue strip in one shot. See pic below:
Great pics! thx...
how much harder is it to get out of the holster now with the 2 contact points? Is it a real pain in the a$$?
could you take a picture of the other side so i know what the clip system looks like? would be awesome

The clips on the other side look exactly the same. I don't know why they didn't just use a "cradle" on one side with a single, centered clip on the other (like they usually have done before).
Just received my case. Very well put together minus the holster issues which I do not use but I do understand for those who do and pulling down the notification bar is tricky as the top is somewhat blocked by the gray front plastic part of the case. Other than that great case and happy I don't have to be paranoid about dropping my phone.

Nice and straight to the point. The glass doesn't contain the digitizer, right? It also doesn't need to be glued to the actual oled itself? Isn't the glue between the glass and the oled causing the dark blotches? The oled should be plastic so you should be able to clean it with a light solvent before putting the new glass on. Sorry for so many questions. I haven't cracked mine but its nice to know it can be fixed cheap.

I'm getting desperate

I really, really, really, want an official bumper. I check the google play store every day, several times per day, just in the off chance that bumpers will be available. In an effort to avoid smashing my Nexus 4 into millions of shards of glass, I purchased one of those S-cases floating around on ebay. I have to say this case is one of the most hideous things i've ever seen. It made my phone look like a cheap knockoff. In order to improve the aesthetics of said S-case, I decided to turn it into a bumper. I present you all my ghetto bumper. I'm starting to get really desperate, I'm tempted to pay outrageous ebay prices for a real one. (sorry this is mostly a rant)

Obviously the Edge is a different animal but that's not what I'm getting or what the OP asked so I wish you luck on that quest.

How about no glass screen protectors, go with a book style case or wallet style. they will protect you screen the best. I know Story Leather makes some that you can customize so that limits the stress of finding one good for you.

Still only takes a grain of sand on your thumb to scratch the screen so it's a risk going bare back.
Of course

True, very true. I know cell phone stores like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint sell screen protectors that they'll put on for you.
