Ok, so I'm always torn when it comes to loading custom ROMS because I uses my devices heavily for work. That being said, I have a solid history of Android devices, some of which I have flashed and some that I have left stock.
HTC G1 (T-Mo) - CM4/5/6 (Deactivated)
HTC EVO (Sprint) - Stock 2.3.5 (GB - Deactivated)
Samsung Galaxy S (T-Mo) - Stock 4.1.1 (JB - Active)
Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE (Verizon) - AOKP Milestone 6 (ICS - Active)
ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T (WiFi) - Stock 4.0.3 (ICS)
Here's the deal, I love my tablet and use it heavily for work, but the stock ROM from ASUS just sucks. This hardware should chew crap up and spit it out, not studder and shutter every time I ask it to do something more than edit a text doc! I haven't used CMx in quite some time, but I know it is a very finished product which is important since I use the TF300T + Keyboard Dock for work. That being said, I am intrigued by all of the postive reviews and sentiments regarding the Hydro-Ponics 4.0 ROM. It sounds very stable and fast since it is ultimately just a tweaked version of stock. Can anyone give me a little Pros/Cons list while comparing and contrasting their experience with each ROM?
Thanks!
Personally I never used cm9, but I use hydro
Pros:
Super fast
Beats audio
Great battery life
Super smooth
Cons:
None

id say wait a lil bit, and jump on the cm10 train, tonight they are apparently adding HW video decoding, and so far, its the smoothest thing ive used on any android device to date
and after using both, i do preffer the cm feel, complete stock interface, nd everything is just super smooth
Thanks!
Thanks for the input guys. Thinking I'll go Hydro since I already know what to expect with CM. I'll let you know what I think

Try the new JB from term. Runs very good, too.
Done Deal
I flashed HYDRO 4.0 Base and then flashed the 4.0A update. Running great so far. I haven't had time to do a full check, but I will update tomorrow afternoon and let you know how it goes. So far I am quite impressed. The only little issue I am having is Titanium is telling me that I do not have root, but I obviously have root...not sure what that is about yet, but I'll figure it out. Other than that, the missing ASUS apps leave a tiny void, but I have better apps to do everything they do, so I'm happy.
It has been a little while since I flashed a ROM, but I was pleasantly surprised that almost all of my apps are still installed even after I wiped the system. I haven't tested all yet, but the ones I have appear to be working.
Re-rooted
I re-rooted using DebugfsRoot_v1.9 and everything is all good.
You won't be disappointed with HYDRO. Its fast and everything works. Plus the added JB ish animations is a nice plus. And the battery life is crazy good.

I have a problem with HYDRO 4.0. I have a three routers in home, one on each floor (two of them are the same, first and second floor). My tf300 with hydro don't see one of them (from first floor). My Motorola Defy see all three my laptop see all three, but Asus have a problem.
I downgradge to .30 and now tf300 see all three.

Have you tried the Wifi fix in the OP of the Hydro thread?
Edit: Scroll down this post---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28268345&postcount=3 (Under Add-Ons)
Yes I have tried, nothing helps. Only back to stock rom. I think I will wait to oryginal JB or AOKP ew. CM10

I used Hydro and it was great but I jumped on the Jellybean train and am now using CM10 found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776260, haven't had a problem, and it seems as fast/stable as Hydro was.
OP, does Hydro fully support all the dock functionalities? Having full use of the Dock is one of the few things I'm missing now with my tablet, since I've used CM9 and figured out how to get Supernote (Still working on getting the asus weather widgets and polaris office working). I would absolutely love to have my cake and eat it too, in the sense that I want a rooted/flashed tablet that still allows me all the basic stock functionalities, and more.

Absolutely full use of the dock. That is my favorite part. I have experienced one WiFi issue at one of my client's networks where the device just wouldn't play nicely with an AP, but other than that everything has been solid. I also noticed that my screen brightness and/or gamma correction seems to have increased, but I have mitigated that using a free market app.
The dock integration is wonderful and the OS is very very fast.

Thanks for the prompt response. Knowing that the dock is fully functional helps alot, and will allow me to switch without regrets. In fact, I'm going to backup right now and flash the Hydro ROM to see if I like it better than CM9. But I might have to switch back to CM10 once Jelly Bean is released to the tablet, because I'm assuming Hydro won't work with JB just yet.
Hey guys,
I really wanted the tf700 since Asus first showed it to the crowd.
But now, I am starting to have second thoughts, since I am reading from a lot of different sources that there are a lot of I/O issues and that maybe Asus just chose the wrong components to make use of the Tegra 3 power.
What do you think?
Should I buy the Asus Infinity or should I go for the Samsung Note 10.1?
Which has no Tegra 3, but has no I/O issues either.
Thanks a lot guys.
Doesn't matter how long or short your answer might be, please just leave something as a reply
EDIT: I even made a little poll, so it has become even easier for the people of few words to get the message across
You really need to try both devices and decide for yourself - otherwise, you'll always be wondering if you were better off with the other device!
In my opinion, the two devices are geared toward different type of users. If you really have a use for the Spen, the Note may be the better choice for you. If you would rather have a keyboard dock (with an extra battery and ports), then the TF700 may be the better choice.
In my case, the TF700 was a no-brainer - I have no use for the Spen whatsoever but I have the need for the keyboard dock (for taking notes at work, etc). I have no desire to try and take handwritten notes on a tablet. I'd much rather type my notes and have them easily searchable, etc.
Again, this is a decision that *you* have to make based on your needs. You will not be happy until you try both devices though...

I am just worried about the I/O and browsing speed, which is not the fastest. However, that might also be due to the internet connection I have tested it on
How did you experience your first browsing experience on your tf700
Personally, I installed Boat browser, which is *much* faster than the stock browser or the Chrome browser. It makes the browsing experience very fast and stable...

I guess I've been lucky with the 700 I have.
I'm not a power user however.
I have found some very good tips here on XDA that have really made the ICS experience bearable COL
I would recommend this tablet over a few others I've owned.
My purchase was kind of based on the future of the Android OS and the best available hardware for a tablet.
Frankly if I had been reading about the tablet in this forum section I may have been very hesitant about the purchase.
In any case if you buy...make sure a return will be easy for you.
Ive had mine for over a week and I am very pleased with it. Weird issues sometimes where it wont turn on after turning screen off, but thats it. It browses fast on chrome and the screen is insane. I haven't looked back.

Thank you for the advise!
I guess I may root the tf700 the moment I decide to buy one!
And then put Zeus' ROM on it.
(BTW: weren't you coming from the Xoom as well? I think I've seen you around on those forums also! )
Remember - in order to install custom ROMs (such as Zeus), you need to unlock the bootloader, which voids your warranty (Asus keeps track of the serial number when you unlock the bootloader).
So, before unlocking, make sure that a) your device doesn't have any major flaws and b) I'd highly recommend some sort of third party warranty, such as Square Trade, so that if your tablet has some sort of hardware issue at a later point, you can get it replaced/repaired as Asus won't touch it.
It really is worth it to install Zeus ROM - it makes the TF700 experience *much* better - just make sure you cover yourself, as Asus completely writes you off once you unlock....

I still have my Xoom, rocking teameos Jellybean nightlies. The Xoom is a great, underrated device, It took the Infinity, with its fantastic screen, dock and expandabilty to muscle my beloved Xoom out of the way as my go-to tab.

Okay
Guess that only makes sense, since there's no official code to be found yet for the tf700.
We'll have to be patient then!
I think your reactions have convinced me to go and buy a TF700, although I am still waiting for some more votes, to check if everybody agrees
(BTW: what is Browser2RAM ?)
Browser2RAM is a tweak to cache web data to RAM instead of the storage inside the device (which is supposedly the cause of some of the TF700 performance issues).
Here is some detailed info on Browser2RAM:

Thanks! Didn't know there was a similar tweak available. That's cool!
I see about 80% of the people say I should stick with the TF700, and seeing how this is a TF700 forum, I think the actual number of 'experts' saying I should go for the TF700 is more like 60%
So I guess I should go and find out myself which I like better.
But that...
- 1080p display
- bright IPS+ technology
- updated Tegra 3
- keyboard dock with extended battery
... make me want a TF700
However, the 2 GB of RAM and S-Pen make me want to go for that Samsung
I guess when weighing out the pros and cons I *should* go for the Asus.

I know it's not a true image of what all XDA experts think, but that's not what I wanted either!
I wanted to know: do you - the TF700 owners- think I should stick with my initial choice or not.
Just to see: is there a high possibility that I will dislike the purchase after a couple of weeks or not.
Apparently 85% of TF700 owners would still pick the TF700, so in my opinion that's good enough to convince me to stick with the TF700.
However, you are right that, if I wanted more objective opinions, I should have also posted on the Note forums
Thanks again, though, for your contribution to this thread. (If only even more people did the same ^^)
hey, I wrote a little comparison of both devices, perhaps that can help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869576
I've had this tablet since Christmas, got it with the keyboard dock and a Poetic case for work (journalism) hoping that it would entirely replace my laptop, which was a beater since my other one broke. Since using it I've overall loved the experience, but I do have a number of gripes.
The Good:
- Keyboard is equally as impressive as any laptop I've used. Responsive, ensures that I can continue to be productive while on the go.
- Battery life is unreal
- Speaker quality equals or betters that of an iPad, hands down.
- For being plastic, the build quality of this thing is awesome.
- ASUS has been nothing but supportive, ensuring that my device is unlocked quickly and under warranty.
- Plays the occasional game well and loads them pretty quickly
- The USB and HDMI outlets, while I haven't used them extensively, are going to come in handy.
- Charges extremely fast
The Bad:
- I can never find the power button in tablet mode. It's ergonomically terrible. And when docked, there's no button to press to turn the screen on quickly (that I know of)
- Despite coming preloaded with JB, this thing lags worse than my HTC Sensation. It's not rooted, but out of the box it lags. Takes like ten seconds to open up Google Now for pete's sake.
- Browser crashes all the time
- Proprietary cable is way too short and proprietary cables blow
- Internet browsing is laggy and slow to load more often than not
- Trackpad on the dock is the worst on any keyboard I've ever used in terms of responsiveness and random touches
- Rooting seems complicated
- The screen is not as sharp or as bright as I expected
Overall: B+
It's more than I could ever expect out of a tablet, to be honest. I probably should have sprung for an UltraBook for my needs, but this will be fun in the meantime. This may be my first tablet, but I can assure you that every tablet I buy from here on out will come with a keyboard. It has given me a good idea of what to look for in a tablet and I really do enjoy using it over any other device I've owned aside from my phone. For all it's specs, performance isn't where it should be, but I have a sneaky suspicion once I root this thing there may still be hope for solving all this lag.
What would you grade this tablet? What are your likes? Dislikes? I'm curious to find out about everyone else's experiences with the 300, and perhaps some helpful advice. Thanks!

When stock I would say a 6/7 out of 10. Its slow, browser crashes and espesially after Jelly Bean update i decided to unlock and root cause it was a pain to use sometimes. Also alot of problems while typing. Whole sentences are suddenly gone, autocorrect is horrible and anyoing, and sometimes even freezes while im writig.
With Custom ROMs i would say a 8 out of 10. Alot faster and smoother than stock.
Imo, the screen is very good. Compared to TF101, colors are better and brighter.
Buying Quad Core cpu I expected, that EVERY game will run smoothly. I bought Dark Knight and ... zonk, lags everywhere. I thought my Tegra 3 is broken

I'd give this thing a 5 out of 10 on stock. Rooted and with agps flashed and apps to SD its a 11 out of 10. I run clean ROM 3.0.4 and unters 4.4.20 kernal and as I've said before it makes all the difference in the world on this machine. The screen is good but the infinity screen is better however I prefer this to all other tabs currently marketed except Samsung note 10.1 but the note isn't optimized for tegra games so all in all this one won me over

Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
It makes so much of a difference on mine I could never concieve of loading the stock ROM again. The stock has serious I/o issues bud not to mention all the other crap. Now don't get me wrong there is a down side. On jelly bean u have to unlock so u lose your warranty and that's a risk. It is also a lot of work to install all the ROMs and patches and the first time on any device will scare the bejesus outta any man but when its done, at least for me, its a thing of beauty on this machine in particular. I'd did a lot of research before I got started and finally took the plunge. Course I've done this on several devices but every time is stressful lol. Good luck man for the benchmark scores on my machine just look at the poor androbench scores thread in this section. I just posted pics there that will show you how much of a difference it makes when you root and rom
---------- Post added at 10:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 PM ----------
P.S. you mentioned lag so I'll let you know browser to ram after you root takes care of that in browsing and as you can see from the screenshots in the other thread the I/o is fixed and or gone around after root and custom ROM installed.
Thanks for the informative reply. I usually use chrome though so I don't think browser2ram will work for that or so I've read.

Yes.
3/10
I've been regretting this purchase since after 1 month of owning it, that why a few months ago I was pretty active on this forum asking questions but since the day I figured out this tablet is what I should not have purchased, I stopped browsing this forum.
I was so sad because I saved my money for months to buy this tablet and what I got wasn't what I expected.
Like you said, this thing lags like crazy, it's because of the I/O issue I believe. Games run laggy, cuz they need to read/write a lot. Copying 100MB takes 10 minutes. I waited for years for it to copy mmy music library to this tablet. Forget about browsing the Web,
I even thought this is an issue with android and I thought I will not ever buy an android device again, until my sister got the galaxy s3 and it's damn fast
Maybe I'll leave a review someday, but basically this tablet is very good, except for the fact that Asus put a cheap slow flash storage in it. If not, I'd rate it 8/10 if there's no i/O issue,
Asus has been known for putting slow flash storage in their devices from the tf201, tf300, even the flagship tf700, and even though the nexus 7 has a faster flash storage that transformers, it's still very slow compared to other tablets.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
I have to agree with other comments here, the stock rom is a piece of crap. Not being able to browse on the stock browser WTF ? I've said this before but Asus REALLY needs to fix their stock rom. If the ROMS from here can make the tablet fly then why can't Asus do it?
I had my tablet for 6 months and only unlocked and flashed TWRP with Cleanroom in the last week. I've now used the tablet more in the last week than I had in the previous 6 months, it's made such a difference. I now enjoy using the tablet rather than wanting to throw it against the wall :silly:
I bought mine with the keyboard dock, it makes the tablet more versatile extends the battery life and with a wireless mouse is almost a notebook / netbook replacement.
I notice the OP wrote the proprietary cable is too short.... you can pick up a 2m cable on eBay or Amazon really cheap, mine was delivered last week. Though the proprietary cable does blow, from what I've read it allows the tablet to be charged quicker than a normal usb cable (please correct me if I am wrong).
Stock rom: 3 out of 10 (Slow, hangs, browser crashes.... piece of crap)
Cleanrom: 10 out of 10 (Everything works perfectly now)
Perhaps the wrong thread but what browser do you guys use on this ROM? I like stock ROM so so much but it doesnt work half the time. Like it doesn't load pages or the back button doesn't return me. Also it can use flash!
I'm gonna start to try use chrome but I like the progress bar. I tried dolphin browser but its not like a conventional browser, doesn't have a back button etc.
Firefox doesn't have an easy add tab button. Same with Opera, don't think its that nippy, hangs n lags.
I found Opera Mobile worked best on the stock rom

Firefox doesn't have an easy add tab button. Same with Opera, don't think its that nippy, hangs n lags.

i use stock browser on cromi 3.0.4 it works exactly as it should with no lags and flash is smooth.

Thank you.
Does a custom ROM really make a big difference? This thing really does lag awfully sometimes on stock and i'm a bit skeptical that it can improve significantly

I'm on CleanROM 3.0.4 and it's awesome. Sure you'll see difference

Thanks to everyone in this thread who has helped. I think I will move onto cleanrom after my tablet goes into repairs. Do apps perform better on cleanrom as well? Such as chrome and other things

which do you prefer and why? Team EOS 4 or No-name CM10.1?
which is faster, more stable and with better battery life?
how about bugs?

Team EOS 4 of course... stability is assured here.. and with Timburu behind them, it gets even better now.

Yeah EOS is actually amazing. Blew me away a little. Go for the preview version for now.

I'm using EOS 4 because I find it virtually flawless when used with Nova. josteink is doing a nice job with his "no-name" too though, and is worth a look if you're a CM fan.

My "stock" rom, ie stable/maintained/enhanced/feature rich, is EOS since early days of 101. I forgot about Asus' rom, and I'm grateful we got unlock keys for our tablets so early!
As the one maintaining the No-name build, I have to say both are good. And they are different. So it's really just a matter of taste.
Timduru is doing an excellent job with Team EOS 4 and the only reason I'm not using that and instead is maintaining my own build is because I prefer CM-based ROMs.
So I say try both. See which one you like best. You probably wont be disappointed by any of them.

why preview version and not the nightly?
does the kernel in EOS works good or should i install kat kernel?
update: nevermind. i'll go for preview with kat kernel.
i am using no-name for a long time now and i think is super. after reading most of the replies here saying about EOS, i will give it a try
Part of the issue is that people (at least myself) have been using EOS for so long that we are kind of entrenched, and EOS4 came out before no-name. Back in the early TF101 JB ROMS, EOS3 had proved to me to be the most fully-functional and stable of the TF101 ROMS, if (maybe) not the smoothest when it came to scrolling through the home screen. I tried them all and I liked them all, but just found EOS the best all-around,
The more recent builds of EOS 4 have been similar for me, very stable, everything that I normally use works fine. Maybe still a very rare screen tear here and there, but no SOD/RR's. I loaded up no-name a few weeks ago and it seemed to work great, but as I was used to my EOS4 set-up, I didn't give it much of an evaluation. It takes me some time to set up my tablet to how I like it, and while it was fun doing so the first 10 times, it's not as much fun as it used to be. I might flash no-name again and see if a data-only nandroid restore of my current set-up works, and give it a more of a run.
The only downside to EOS4 IMO might be that with the nav bar (bottom bar) enabled, home-screen transitions aren't as smooth as I'd expect from jellybean. The plus side is that I learned to stop using the navbar and instead disable it, using LMT pie controls or GMT gestures, both of which work great and allow for more screen real estate. My old TF101 seems to be as fast, smooth and functional as my Nexus 7 or my sister's TF Prime.
These guys have really made my $250 Black Friday tablet into the best bang-for-the-buck gadget I ever bought.
I use the No Name and i like it.
On Team Eos the gapps din't work after 2 installs so i install the no name and everything works best. :good:

Agreed, my tablet now runs better than most new devices with EOS 4. May see some RR if overclocking past 1.4GHz or leaving the SDCARD in the dock when not in use.
semi noobish
Hey guys, semi noob here. I currently have AR on my tablet and i want to upgrade to 4.2. When i started learing to do this i soft bricked my tablet by going from 4.1 to the ARevolution. I would prefer for this not to happen again. So is all i need to do is do a full wipe. then install 4.2 off sd card via CWM? then flash apps etc?
Just follow initial installation intstructions really. And I would recommend using TWRP instead of CWM.
You should install this first, via Goomanager, and when you see that you have that working, you can install this ROM.
Note: if this is the first 4.2 ROM you are installing, beware that you will probably have to do a factory reset to be entirely sure you avoid problems.

Sorry. I didnt download Goomanager (i am now) basically i had 4.2.2 rom on my sdcard along with gapps. booted into CWM recovery. Wiped data etc, went to instal via sdcard and said that it cant be mounted. IE i can install new room. I can reboot back into my original rom (AR). so i am going to try the goomanager via TWRP
No idea why i couldnt mount sdcard however.
This is one of the reasons twrp is recommended.
It works with both internal and external storage without any nonsense

Ok i got it. Thank you very much!
---------- Post added at 03:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:52 PM ----------
ya that was alot easier. Thanks!
I've used both now and they seem to be the same in terms of speeds
But saying that the speeds are generally rubbish. I've no idea what is going on or if I am expecting too much from this now relatively old tablet and a new OS. Everything seems to lag even on a fresh install.
If the tablet is downloading anything then things grind to a major halt.
I'm pretty sure that ICS wasn't anywhere near as bad as this.
Running games and typing on the keyboard seems to be OK though...just seems to be normal day to day use.
Any ideas ??
Actually now I think about it the slowness only really is visible when there is data flowing. If I turn off WiFi then there doessnt seem to be much sluggishness at all.
Does anyone else get this?
I'me in the market for a 10inch tablet, i got one 2nd hand, no warranty, no obvious marks for 120€.
How is LP standing on this one ? Is all hardware working ok ? GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth?
TL;DR, do you advise me to buy a TF300T today ?
It is still a good tablet, however, if you are set on using Lollipop, you may have to wait a bit. Not for official, Asus release, that won't happen; Cyanogenmod CM12.1 is out, but quite few users report issues (see CM thread in Development section).
I personally have been using CM11 since it came out and the tablet runs great!

How is CM12.0 ?? (Original LP)
How is the NAND ? I remember seing dreadfull reports of slowing NAND overtime, like if trim wasn't working properly...
Running KatKiss Lollipop, which works quite well. For an aged tablet, it still has some life in it.
Another vote for KatKiss...
I just picked up a used one for 200 cdn with keyboard dock, i installed katkiss and it works great. pretty good battery life too
Id recommend it
