I had the loose screen problem with my 1st TF700. Got a replacement, but then I couldn't unlock it..
It has been allmost a month now, and it still persists.
Any of you know how long people waited the first time this occured?
Is this just because Asus is too lazy to update the program with the newer product serials?
Regards,
I just replaced my first TF700 with a new one and I didn't have any issues unlocking the new one, which is a C7 serial number.
What does your serial number start with? just curious if it really has to do with the newer/older serial number or not...

Hmm, wierd..
My S/N starts with C70K. Don't know if that's the new or old
I'm getting that same message too.. I wonder if emailing them would help
I had a Prime. Unlocked it. It had a screen issue. Got it repaired. Couldn't unlock again. Many, many folks (maybe the majority) with Primes who were repaired weren't ever able to unlock. Asus doesn't warrant the unlock tool or support it. Their attitude is, if it works, it works; if it doesn't, it doesn't.
Tien was very apologetic to me but not helpful at all.
What the.. So that means I need to get a 2nd replacement just to get unlocked?
That's just sad..
I'll try to send an email, and see what they have to say about this.
What a scam by Asus - release stock firmware that sucks and then void all warranties when you unlock in order to get a properly working tablet!
If the damn stock firmware worked correctly to begin with, we wouldn't have to unlock the bootloader in order to install a custom ROM!
Sorry - moment of frustration there!

I always install a custom ROM no matter how good the stock is. Even if the stock rom is PERFECT, I will still install a custom rom.

Hahah, I see.
Got a reply from ASUS today:
[ME]
Why am I not able to unlock the bootloader of my device with the Unlock
Device Tool?
[ASUS]
Unlocking your eee-pad will cause side effects. It might make your eee-pad
unstabile, and it voids the warranty.
Therefore, we do not recommend to unlock the bootloader of your eee-pad.
But what is happening when you try to unlock the bootloader, any error
messages or so?

Jörgen

I'm aware of that. But I rather want a device with a custom ROM I can use
normally before jellybean arrives, 'cause currently the stock ROM is very
dissapointing..
I attached an image showing the error I get.
Thanks for the reply!

Hi again
As long as you use the right unlock tool for this model, it should work.
Have you tried to first take a factory reset of the unit, before performing the unlock tool?

True that.
I didn't try the step with factory reset before unlocking again, 'cause I'm heading to the shop where I bought it to get it replaced..
2nd pad with loose screen, clicking sound, and this one also had light bleed.
Btw, have any of you noticed the .txt-file in the internal storage called "Unlock Time" or something? I opened the file, and it was written the date and time of my last unsuccessful unlocking-attempt Is this file created only if the unlocking fails?

No, i had that file after i successfully unlocked my device.
Bump. I'm getting a slightly different error message: "Failed to unlock your device. Please try again later." I tried for about a month with the last one I had, finally exchanged it a few days ago, and the new one is giving me the same message. The last one was in the C7 series, this one is C8.
Did anyone have any luck dealing with support?

Yes. I tried the Asus Unlock Utility V7 from the Asus Support website, but it gets an error and does not unlock. I think a lot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if it is related to the newer "C9..." range of serial numbers.

Same problem here. Serial with C9 and I get the "Unknown error occurs..." thing. I've been trying every couple hours since I got it Monday (tried it on 10.4.2.9, 10.4.2.17, and now 10.4.2.18 that came out today) and same error every time. I've even wiped it a couple of different times to no avail.
It does not work on my tablet JB per loaded.
Just purchased from Best Buy, this is really a nice device.
Just ned to get it unlocked and rooted.

So I called ASUS tech support about my bootloader unlock issue. Man, they are horrible. Totally unknowledgable and of no help. One guy thinks the apk is a driver and the tablet is a notebook. So I tried another tech support guy and he just puts me on hold for 20 mins to try to look for the apk on their website only to come back and tell me he can't find it.

Could you elaborate?
1) Where do you put the file? Internal SD? External SD? Exact Path?
2) How do you install? Boot into recovery and install?

It doesn't matter where you put it. APK files are (kinda) the android equivalent of a .exe on Windows. To install it, transfer it to your tablet somewhere you can find it, then open file manager, navigate to the apk file and open it. It should bring up the install dialog, (assuming you have unknown sources enabled) and install the app. Once installed open the app from the launcher or the drawer, go through the agreements and click the unlock button. It should work from there (it errors out at this point for me, but if it's going to work this is where the actual "Unlocking" will happen.)

At least you got people actually willing to help. When I called, The guy put me on hold for 3 min (after verifying EVERY single piece of information I filled out on the online form) then came back and told me the process voids my warranty (which I knew already) and said that this was primarily a "Warranty/support company" (his words not mine) and that they can't assist me in voiding my warranty. He was acting nice about it, but he acted as if the sole reason I was trying to do this was to void my warranty.
Thanks for grabbing that question Reffu.
I transferred it to my external SD and installed. The file is straight up apk so you don't need to be in recovery to install it. I just navigated to the SD with file manager, tapped on the apk and installed it.
You can transfer it to the internal too. It really doesn't matter where it's at. (Internal or external)
Edit:
I was connected to wifi when I unlocked my bootloader. Are you guys connected to wifi when you are trying to unlock? Don't know if it matters or not. Just saying.

I have contacted Asus as well. I sent mine in, already unlocked, because of a system board issue. It was an issue which came from the factory, but regardless, I unlocked it and voided the warranty, so I paid to have the board replaced and just got the unit back. Now I can't unlock either.
When I talked to a 'supervisor' I was told they would not help me with my issue because they do not support unlocking the device and will not tell you how to do it. I told him I KNOW HOW (dumbass), it's not working. Regardless, they wouldn't help at all. So now I have a repaired tablet which WENT OUT unlocked and came back without the ability to unlock. THANKS ASUS!!!
In all seriousness, Asus is renowned for having quality overclocking motherboards, vid cards, etc. to gain performance, yet they won't provide a tablet in the same manner, this is ridiculous.
Can this tablet be rooted without unlocking the bootloader? If so, is there a rom that use the stock kernel?
Just picked this tablet up and the version of JB install will not work with the Unlock apk.

As far as I'm aware, there is no root for Jelly Bean that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader, I've been looking and haven't found one yet .
Also, FYI even if you were rooted, you couldn't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader. Rooted means you have the ability to access system files and settings. Most (all?) custom roms are rooted, but at least on this tablet, you can't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader, even for those who managed to get root before Jelly Bean.

I laughed at this because Asus does have a track record for misspellings and strange grammar.
The TF300 is a good device.
I had one TF101 before, which was very good device, I can say that the little error from Asus is about the TF201 "Prime".
But the TF pad are always very functional, without problems for the most of time
My Asus TF are always unlocked, always rooted, no bricked.
The problem that you want always more. More what ?
Functionalities, Overcloked, undervolt...etc
Don't forget that these devices have some limits.
And then certain users don't respect, or don't give attention to the instructions given by devs.
That's why that they have a brick instead of a TF pad:crying:

The error indicated that your device is not registered with Asus server or there's problem with Asus server. Many ppl have this issue and the only way is to wait and try again on another day. Sometimes it takes days, weeks, some...never!! Asus is no longer support this and they transfered this process to third party, so we're at the end of the rope.

Rooting has nothing to do with unlocking. You still can root your device, but without unlocking you will not able to flash recovery in order to flash custom rom/kernel.

Hi David,
Thank you for reaching out. Last I heard, the unlocking problem was due to an issue with the servers over at HQ. Since then, I was informed that they (HQ) would take over handling it. I'm sad to say, that I have not heard anything from them since and I am probably in the same situation as you guys. The best I can recommend is to send it in for RMA since it is believed to be an issues with the MB not being able to communicate with the servers.

No, but you can downgrade to ICS, root it with debugfs, use OTA RootKeeper, and upgrade to JB again using dlkpkgfiles saved from OTA upgrades (downloads are available in some thread on this forum). This procedure does not require unlocking and results in a rooted JB.
Hello, I am just wondering if any of you guys received a firmware upgrade recently.

Looks like they are doing a new release for the TF700 which is not unexpected seeing as they just did one for the TF300 and ME301 as well. The same problem exists on those two devices. Asus have closed the root loophole motochopper has been using. As of now there is no known root method other than unlocking.

Bad update
Hi to all,
I´ve just update my TF700T to the latest firmware JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801 but all goes wrong.
First, every app I´ve installed has been stopped, no one works. Every time that i want to launch an app, appears the message "sorry, the XXXX app has stopped...", the same with a lot of processes: "sorry, the process XXXX has stopped"
Second, I try to fixit rebooting the pad, but evrery time I reboot it, or shut off and then power on it, is the same: "android is updating/upgrading: optimizing nn applications of mm"
What should I do, i´m desperate my TF700T is unusable.
I´m root, not unlocked. I activate the survival mode in the SuperSu app to try to mantain the root.
Thank you very much in advanced.
update:
I made a cold reset, wipe data and nothing works. Now I can´t enter on the system, because when I need to configure my google account, i receive a message the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
I also try made a RCK, but i got the android with the red triangle with the exclamation inside.

I got this error when mine upgrade to 10.6.1.14.10, too...
I managed to fix this by following "Alternative Firmware update Method" in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28374043&postcount=1
You may download 10.6.1.14.8 from Asus web site, downgrade the device, root it if you want to, and then apply OTA upgrade again.
Hey folks,
hope you can give me any advise.
Unfortunately my TF700 got a corrupted Storage and nothing worked but fastboot.
I was finally able to flash stock rom via fastboot.
But now it seems the bootloader is locked, since i'm not able to flash a custom recovery.
On Boot there is a message that says: "no certificate to inject" an it boots into stock Android JB.
BUT: i want to flash a custom rom.
I already opened a call on ASUS but since 3 weeks they cannot solve the problem. The unlock tool always says that there is a network error, and does not unlock.
Thought it is not possible to relock the Bootloader, but it seems that i made it
Would be nice if anybody could help me with this.
Thx. _
I doubt very much that the bootloader is locked. Check on boot for the tiny text top left: The device is unlocked. It's not there??????
How do you try to flash a recovery?
Post your steps in detail and also check that it's a compatible recovery you are flashing.
While you're at it, also post your bootloader version.

I did some asking around and it would seem this can happen ..... :crying:
There have been cases where a larger android kernel can overflow the partition boundaries and wipe out the unlock token ...
This can also happen if a bad blob is flashed ......
Sorry for the bad news but if you dont have nvflash access and your unlock-token there is nothing that can be done .....
Thx Josh
Actually i flashed original latest blob from asus site via fastboot. And i think the bootloader was included.
But since i have no nvflash backup it seems i am lost in the locked boot loader.
Is there a way that ASUS could help me out?
Were there any cases where ASUS did help?
Thanks for your help

Well its my understand if you can use fastboot at all the bootloader has to be unlocked ....
What happens when you try to flash a recovery from fastboot ?
Thx Josh
Looks like flashing but fails with invalid state message.
After that stock rcovery is still present
Today after 3 weeks i got finally feedback from ASUS....yeah.
They said: that in their systems my tablet is now set as a locked one and i can try to use the unlock again.
But when i tried that there is still the unknown network error appearing.
So the unlock is still not working evem when asus set it as locked in their systems.
Could it be, that there is something more in my tab which is at a wrong state?

If Asus has said this to you then it could take some time for it to trickle down ....
Give it sometime and keep trying , That is the best I can do ....
Sorry for the bad news .... :crying:
Thx Josh
Gold news now!
After months stucking in a locked tablet with stock Firmware and all the lags while using it. The changes made by Google which forced asus to modify the unlock service let me now unlock the tab again....yeah.
Now i am back in business and already back to zombi pop with f2fs.
After a week oft using it i can confirm, that the tf700 has never been that responsive. Vera impressive rom with a great performance thanks for all your help.

I'm glad it worked out in the end.
My story is basically the same except I was advised to get an RMA and send the tablet to a service center. That is where the nightmare escalated. The service center said they did not help with unlocking, and they told me my tablet wouldn't boot and they would have to replace the motherboard (for $341).
When I wouldn't pay, they sent the tablet back. It booted just fine, and, suddenly the unlock tool worked. I wasn't aware of changes made by Google that you mention. I had to delete my Google account for the tool to finish.
Anyway, I too am happily running ZombiPop and am impressed with the performance.
