Has anyone been able to unlock the bootloader on a new TF300T (serial no. starting with C9...) that shipped with JB already installed? I'm getting the "An unknown error occurs" message and wondering if it is the same for all the new TF300Ts.
Unlock
Did you use the unlock.apk from asus website?

Yes. I tried the Asus Unlock Utility V7 from the Asus Support website, but it gets an error and does not unlock. I think a lot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not sure. I'm wondering if it is related to the newer "C9..." range of serial numbers.
Mine starts with C9 and it worked for me.

Do you download the file with your tablet and then run it within the tablet?
Getting unlock error here also with Asus unlock app. Serial c9...anyone got Asus contact info?

Same problem here. Serial with C9 and I get the "Unknown error occurs..." thing. I've been trying every couple hours since I got it Monday (tried it on 10.4.2.9, 10.4.2.17, and now 10.4.2.18 that came out today) and same error every time. I've even wiped it a couple of different times to no avail.
It does not work on my tablet JB per loaded.
Just purchased from Best Buy, this is really a nice device.
Just ned to get it unlocked and rooted.

can you post / or email me the file you used? I have not been able to get the file i downloaded to work.
I'll PM you the link for the one I used. You'll have it shortly.
I had originally posted a download link for MediaFire that I had made but wasn't sure if the Mods would let it stay up so I removed it. Check your PM box, it's there. Hope it works for you.

So I called ASUS tech support about my bootloader unlock issue. Man, they are horrible. Totally unknowledgable and of no help. One guy thinks the apk is a driver and the tablet is a notebook. So I tried another tech support guy and he just puts me on hold for 20 mins to try to look for the apk on their website only to come back and tell me he can't find it.

Could you elaborate?
1) Where do you put the file? Internal SD? External SD? Exact Path?
2) How do you install? Boot into recovery and install?

It doesn't matter where you put it. APK files are (kinda) the android equivalent of a .exe on Windows. To install it, transfer it to your tablet somewhere you can find it, then open file manager, navigate to the apk file and open it. It should bring up the install dialog, (assuming you have unknown sources enabled) and install the app. Once installed open the app from the launcher or the drawer, go through the agreements and click the unlock button. It should work from there (it errors out at this point for me, but if it's going to work this is where the actual "Unlocking" will happen.)

At least you got people actually willing to help. When I called, The guy put me on hold for 3 min (after verifying EVERY single piece of information I filled out on the online form) then came back and told me the process voids my warranty (which I knew already) and said that this was primarily a "Warranty/support company" (his words not mine) and that they can't assist me in voiding my warranty. He was acting nice about it, but he acted as if the sole reason I was trying to do this was to void my warranty.
Thanks for grabbing that question Reffu.
I transferred it to my external SD and installed. The file is straight up apk so you don't need to be in recovery to install it. I just navigated to the SD with file manager, tapped on the apk and installed it.
You can transfer it to the internal too. It really doesn't matter where it's at. (Internal or external)
Edit:
I was connected to wifi when I unlocked my bootloader. Are you guys connected to wifi when you are trying to unlock? Don't know if it matters or not. Just saying.

I have contacted Asus as well. I sent mine in, already unlocked, because of a system board issue. It was an issue which came from the factory, but regardless, I unlocked it and voided the warranty, so I paid to have the board replaced and just got the unit back. Now I can't unlock either.
When I talked to a 'supervisor' I was told they would not help me with my issue because they do not support unlocking the device and will not tell you how to do it. I told him I KNOW HOW (dumbass), it's not working. Regardless, they wouldn't help at all. So now I have a repaired tablet which WENT OUT unlocked and came back without the ability to unlock. THANKS ASUS!!!
In all seriousness, Asus is renowned for having quality overclocking motherboards, vid cards, etc. to gain performance, yet they won't provide a tablet in the same manner, this is ridiculous.
Can this tablet be rooted without unlocking the bootloader? If so, is there a rom that use the stock kernel?
Just picked this tablet up and the version of JB install will not work with the Unlock apk.

As far as I'm aware, there is no root for Jelly Bean that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader, I've been looking and haven't found one yet .
Also, FYI even if you were rooted, you couldn't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader. Rooted means you have the ability to access system files and settings. Most (all?) custom roms are rooted, but at least on this tablet, you can't install a custom rom without an unlocked bootloader, even for those who managed to get root before Jelly Bean.

Okay, I spent some time this weekend looking for a root of build number 10.4.2.13 and was not able to find one.
Its looks like I am out of luck with unlocking the boot loader or rooting this tablet.
I will continue my research or return the tablet to BB.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me get my TF300T updated to 4.1. I have not received an OTA update as of yet and I assume I would have by now if I was going to. I went to the ASUS site and downloaded the firmware update for my model but can't figure out how to get it installed. Could someone point me in the right direction or help me with this?
Thanx
Have you rooted? Unlocked bootloader?
If not, try rebooting your tablet and go into settings----> About tablet -----> system firmware update -----> check update (or you could keep pressing Pad EC version and then update). I don't know why you can't upgrade though, seems strange.

Rooted no, unlocked bootloader yes.
I did that awhile ago with the intent to root and put CM10 on. Never went any further than the unlocked bootloader. Do you think that would prevent it?
I think it might, although I don't know much. There are threads explaining how to do the update with an unlocked bootloader I think

I said that in my original post. I downloaded the update from their site, but have no idea how to install it. It is something I have to flash or just an installer I run on the tablet?
The link I posted should help I think

for default asus recovery:
open the zip file you got, inside it you should find another zip file
rename that (without unzipping it) as EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip and copy it on a micro sd card
insert the micro sd card in your tablet, power off your tablet, power on in recovery (power+volume down, then volume up)
wait for it to install (two part process, first you get the android robot with a spinning polihedron in his tumming and a slowly filling bar at the base while the rom is unpacked and prepared, then it will reboot and you will see the asus logo with another slowly filling bar at the base while the rom is actually installed - DONT SHUT DOWN, RESTART OR WATHEVER FOR ANY REASON DURING THIS PHASE!).
no root needed.
for custom recovery: same as before (unzip the basic zip file, copy the inside zip to your sd, probably there's no need to rename it), wipe everything, then your custom recovery has a feature for burning a rom, follow their instructions.
by the way, this is not an update procedure but a complete reinstall, you will lose everything on your tablet you have not backupped.

afaik asus has yet not posted it.
I am unable to post links, but if you find your tablet on their site, then select the Download tab.
Down below select Android under OS and then Firmware. Then find the update that matches your SKU.
They updated their web page, now there is ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TG Firmware: V10.4.3.7 ready for download.
sources too.
Hello, I am just wondering if any of you guys received a firmware upgrade recently.
I upgraded to this firmware which I believe was built early this month and it seems like it can't be rooted and my Google play keeps on crashing.
I did some searches and there seems to be no results regarding tf700 and this build. Anyone?

Looks like they are doing a new release for the TF700 which is not unexpected seeing as they just did one for the TF300 and ME301 as well. The same problem exists on those two devices. Asus have closed the root loophole motochopper has been using. As of now there is no known root method other than unlocking.
What waste of their time...instead of fixing things like the lag, on screen keyboard output and browser compatability they get all paranoid about someone fixing it for them...

When I get mine back, if it's fixed, I intend to do just that might be the only good way to get any use of my 700!

So, does anyone have a changelog for this or know if it's possible to keep root with Voodoo OTA and this update?
On the other hand, I may be sending my tablet to ASUS for repairs. If they update to this firmware, does factory reset revert to an older version I can root without unlocking?
Thanks!

I have sent mine in for digitizer repairs...so I'm sitting here worried about the same thing...I hope they don't flash my stuff..as of this moment, I don't think there is a way back.
Motorola did this to me with a Photon 4G phone right before they said they wouldn't be updating the OS beyond 2.3 they OTA'd my phone so I can't put a ROM on it. Guess what, no mo moto for this dude and now there won't be any more Asus either, pretty soon I won't be buying anything but I'll have a lot of money!

Bad update
Hi to all,
I´ve just update my TF700T to the latest firmware JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801 but all goes wrong.
First, every app I´ve installed has been stopped, no one works. Every time that i want to launch an app, appears the message "sorry, the XXXX app has stopped...", the same with a lot of processes: "sorry, the process XXXX has stopped"
Second, I try to fixit rebooting the pad, but evrery time I reboot it, or shut off and then power on it, is the same: "android is updating/upgrading: optimizing nn applications of mm"
What should I do, i´m desperate my TF700T is unusable.
I´m root, not unlocked. I activate the survival mode in the SuperSu app to try to mantain the root.
Thank you very much in advanced.
update:
I made a cold reset, wipe data and nothing works. Now I can´t enter on the system, because when I need to configure my google account, i receive a message the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
I also try made a RCK, but i got the android with the red triangle with the exclamation inside.

I got this error when mine upgrade to 10.6.1.14.10, too...
I managed to fix this by following "Alternative Firmware update Method" in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28374043&postcount=1
You may download 10.6.1.14.8 from Asus web site, downgrade the device, root it if you want to, and then apply OTA upgrade again.
I am trying to install recovery and root the TF300T that I just got. It looked like I needed to start off by unlocking the bootloader. I downloaded the file from the Asus website (V8 unlocker) since it is running 4.2.1. However after trying to run the unlocker, I keep getting "There was trouble parsing the package" immediately upon opening the APK file. I have been able to install other APK's without a problem. I tried 2 different file managers, downloaded v8 unlocker from 2 different locations, tried downloading it directly to device as well as transferring from PC. Still no luck. Is there anyone that can assist with this? Thanks.

Im pretty sure there is a Windows Utility you can try to connect with the tablet over ADB to unlock.
That would make sense, but I've had trouble finding a utility to do so. I will look around a bit more, but there's nor eason I shouldn't be able to run that APK. The V7 one runs fine, but finishes with some unknown error.

The unlocker-V7 worked on the latest jellybean without any issues. I had to contact asus after registering the device on their site. i included the SN and MAC address. I also included a link to the google search results for the issue so they know the extent of it. They did something on their end and V7 was able to run and unlock it. They got back to me the next business day as well.

Pretty sure I have tried both as soon as there was a post here about it but just to make sure I just downloaded 7 from the asus site right now and gave it a shot and sure enough i get a network error, try again, etc. I know they have duplicate MAC addresses on file for me and each and every time i asked them to update their site with my current MAC they talk about "im sorry...we cant support unlocking......it voids your warranty"........blah blah blah...... meanwhile they provide the tool. Go figure. That's why I just said F it I wont buy another Asus product again.
Hey folks,
hope you can give me any advise.
Unfortunately my TF700 got a corrupted Storage and nothing worked but fastboot.
I was finally able to flash stock rom via fastboot.
But now it seems the bootloader is locked, since i'm not able to flash a custom recovery.
On Boot there is a message that says: "no certificate to inject" an it boots into stock Android JB.
BUT: i want to flash a custom rom.
I already opened a call on ASUS but since 3 weeks they cannot solve the problem. The unlock tool always says that there is a network error, and does not unlock.
Thought it is not possible to relock the Bootloader, but it seems that i made it
Would be nice if anybody could help me with this.
Thx. _
I doubt very much that the bootloader is locked. Check on boot for the tiny text top left: The device is unlocked. It's not there??????
How do you try to flash a recovery?
Post your steps in detail and also check that it's a compatible recovery you are flashing.
While you're at it, also post your bootloader version.

Hey folks,
hope you can give me any advise.
Unfortunately my TF700 got a corrupted Storage and nothing worked but fastboot.

I did some asking around and it would seem this can happen ..... :crying:
There have been cases where a larger android kernel can overflow the partition boundaries and wipe out the unlock token ...
This can also happen if a bad blob is flashed ......
Sorry for the bad news but if you dont have nvflash access and your unlock-token there is nothing that can be done .....
Thx Josh
Actually i flashed original latest blob from asus site via fastboot. And i think the bootloader was included.
But since i have no nvflash backup it seems i am lost in the locked boot loader.
Is there a way that ASUS could help me out?
Were there any cases where ASUS did help?
Thanks for your help

Well its my understand if you can use fastboot at all the bootloader has to be unlocked ....
What happens when you try to flash a recovery from fastboot ?
Thx Josh
Looks like flashing but fails with invalid state message.
After that stock rcovery is still present
Today after 3 weeks i got finally feedback from ASUS....yeah.
They said: that in their systems my tablet is now set as a locked one and i can try to use the unlock again.
But when i tried that there is still the unknown network error appearing.
So the unlock is still not working evem when asus set it as locked in their systems.
Could it be, that there is something more in my tab which is at a wrong state?

If Asus has said this to you then it could take some time for it to trickle down ....
Give it sometime and keep trying , That is the best I can do ....
Sorry for the bad news .... :crying:

Gold news now!
After months stucking in a locked tablet with stock Firmware and all the lags while using it. The changes made by Google which forced asus to modify the unlock service let me now unlock the tab again....yeah.
Now i am back in business and already back to zombi pop with f2fs.
After a week oft using it i can confirm, that the tf700 has never been that responsive. Vera impressive rom with a great performance thanks for all your help.

I'm glad it worked out in the end.
My story is basically the same except I was advised to get an RMA and send the tablet to a service center. That is where the nightmare escalated. The service center said they did not help with unlocking, and they told me my tablet wouldn't boot and they would have to replace the motherboard (for $341).
When I wouldn't pay, they sent the tablet back. It booted just fine, and, suddenly the unlock tool worked. I wasn't aware of changes made by Google that you mention. I had to delete my Google account for the tool to finish.
Anyway, I too am happily running ZombiPop and am impressed with the performance.
Trying to unlock the bootloader on my new to me TF700, have both versions 7 & 8. I have the files in the Download folder on the tablet, not the SD card. Everytime I run either of the unlock files I get a "X App not installed" error. I then went to the Asus site and registered the TF700 and tried again getting the same message.

Did you allow installing from unknown sources in Settings?

Yeah, I also allowed developer options (not sure if it's needed). Tablet isn't rooted yet either.

IDK - a bad download? Registering with Asus has nothing to do with it... Where did you get the apks?
Both from the Asus US site, I'm wondering if I have a mitch-matched MOBO issue and have to contact them.
NP
That still should not prevent you from installing the app. I'll post a link to v7 when I get home

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman, IT WORKED! ! !
Can't believe 2 BAD files from Asus, your file got me pass the [X App not installed]
but then the wifi at my work blocked the Asus servers, so I thethered off my phone
BUT then my google password didn't work, removing the google account fixed that.
My TF700 (that I bought thinking it was a TF701) is UNLOCKED.
Next step TWRP
THANK YOU AGAIN ! ! !
NP
UPDATE:
I've got TWRP on it and will flash 7.1.2 on it tonight, I took a look at your Rooting tutorial here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891
and will not be rooting my TF700, just flashing the ROM, SuperSU and GApps since flashing the ROM will root the tablet. Thanks again ! !
NP
Asus messed with that website so much, they may have mixed up some files
Glad I could help.
If you flash SuperSU, you have root. Just skip that step if you don't need root. The rom itself does not come with root build in.
I have been experimenting with flashing the rom without even gapps on the 700 in an effort to get the smoothest user experience possible (the 2G WiFi is becoming an issue..). I build an apk collection of my favorite apps on microSD and sideload those once the rom is flashed. Takes a bit of getting used to without Google framework, Play Store etc, but I like the result: Almost lag free tablet and pretty darn amazing battery life! Depending on how you use the tablet this may or may not be an option...
Thanks, got it up and running on KatKiss 7.1.2v27 now, using my TF201 dock, runs better, wifi is a little better, I don't get the wifi dropping out like the TF201 did and yeah the 2.4GHz is starting to be a problem compared to the 5GHz on my phone. Thanks again. Next stop a 701...

I thought I was the only one left who wanted to install a new ROM on a 5 year old tablet.... I am going for the CROMi resurrected, but got stuck on the bootloader unlocking. Got the network error problem, despite being on the web. Deleting google accounts did not work so gave up in disgust and shut the thing down.... Decided to log a call with ASUS so registered on their site providing my TF700T serial number, etc. Four or so hours later, I thought let's power my TF700T up again and try again. By low and behold, on the second try it unlocked! I don't know if this has anything to do with me registering my device but it certainly was strange that it worked. Next up installing the TWRP, hopefully that will go a bit smoother....
