[SOLVED] Restore phone- Flash FXZ on 2.3.6 - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi,
I was stupid and flashed a mod in CWM which now means i can't get past pulsating boot screen. Because you can't access CWm from boot i'm screwed.
Whats the best way to restore the phone back to default. I was on 2.3.6, Do i just flash the fxz file from fastboot and that is it? Which file do use from the HK/TW list here. Do is still need to flash the patch first? http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
Thanks in advance for your help.

Check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
scroll down to flashing the fxz, and follow it exactly.
Make sure to dl the proper files for your phone. And properly patch the fxz.

Thanks for your reply mate.
I have the HK TW version of the phone and was on 2.3.6 (latest OTA) The patch that it talks about is for 2.3.5 right? so if i download the FXZ for 2.3.6 would i still need to apply the patch?
Plus i'm guessing this is the latest one right? "5.5.1-1_GC-109_HKTW_cfc.xml.zip"
Thanks again for help/

You need the patch. without it you will not be able to get your phone back. There are a few files that are updated in the OTA that CANNOT be flashed back, so it will just fail. the patch makes it skip those, which is not a problem at all and you will never know it.

Thanks for everyones help.
Here is what i did,
downloaded correct fxz file
patch files by copying them over the old zip file.
Drag and drop to RSD Lite
Plug in phone in fastboot mode and then install FXZ
Took about 15 minutes to finish. Now got a fully working Phone again.
(I did try it without patching files first and got an error first, so thanks for that tip. That is what i was mostly concerned about)

Tell me about it. I can do all the basics and imo i think i know quite a lot about this stuff. But when something goes wrong you do start panicking a bit. Plus i just wanted to make sure i was doing everything 100% correct to avoid doing more damage to my phone.

Flaw in flashing FXZ from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5!!!

OK guys we have a serious flaw in the directions of flashing the FXZ after aplying the OTA 2.3.6. This evening I was coming off of a test build and went to apply the final version and got stuck at the red M. I thought no big deal I'll just follow the instructions listed in the noob thread! So I followed these to a T.
How to flash the FXZ once applying the OTA update and get back to 2.3.5, ONCE YOU UPDATE TO THE OTS 2.3.6 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH THE 2.3.5 FXZ WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE STEPS BELOW!!
NOTE: Download this file HERE -
Unzip it and move all the the items in it to the stock fxz. You might get a warning about replacing files, just click OK. NOTE that Windows might not be able to handle the size of the fxz. I have 6 GB RAM but Windows still wasn't able to perform a drag-and-drop through the fxz's zip. I recommend that you just unzip the fxz and then put the files in. (You don't have to rezip it either, RSD Lite will still recognize it and will flash faster).

I'm like OH $hit!!! my battery is about dead and I'm getting a lil tense and then I remembered reading this thread H2.3.6 FlashBoot Project: and "Invalid CG Version" SOLUTION
Followed the directions and got the phone rebooted! Hopefully some of the developers will take another look at our method and get it corrected so we dont have others going through this and I apologize to all that have already went through this before me and hopefully your phone is working again.
Big thanks to Shaliuno and ri4naire
Guys I know ya'll are swamped but if you find some time could you please take a minute to see where we can correct this isssue and I will get it to the beginners thread once done until then you will have to use this work around to get the phone functional again.
Thanks JRW28
Wait so does that mean we have to flash the edited 2.3.5 fkz and THEN apply Shaliuno's mod?
So the boot.img gets corrupted by the fkz flash?
That is really strange . I will try to do everything as well and see what happens for me.
EDIT- I can't understand why this would happen. I haven't flashed yet but I have checked all the md5sums in the replace.zip with the md5sums of the fxz I've used about 20 times now and they're the same. I'm going to flash it in just a second. Also I'll upload the fxz that I've used all the time but depending on my network (which is usually slow) it could be a while.

I'm in no way pointing any fingers here just wanted to give a heads up. Cogeary I wouldn't think it would be the FXZ as I flashed mine twice to make sure there wasn't any problems with mine and it is directly from the fastboot files
Yes I completely understand. Some reasons why this is happening are
1- The original files uploaded in the replace.zip may not be the right files
2- The replace.zip is either incomplete or incorrect
3- RSD Lite is playing tricks because it doesn't like us
Out of those, 1 isn't possible because I've used those files many times in flashing 2.3.5 from a 2.3.6 A2. 3 is possible but improbable if you've successfully used RSD Lite before with an A2. 2 is the most plausible.
However I don't believe that any of those options are correct. I just used replace.zip to modify the original fxz and flashed it to my 2.3.6 A2. It just finished booting up.

Yes I did have problems and we've had a few others as well. So why is this intermittent?
I've just verified that my FXZ is working again so I know thy is not the problem? Idk???
I would recommend to anyone looking to update and retain root to do a factory reset and flash the
2.3.5 Edison_etc.zip to get a clean stock phone first. Then root from there and follow the instructions to upgrade. Also, use adb to alter you're mount_ext3.sh or whatever, DON'T USE A ROOT EXPLORER ON THE PHONE, this is what I'm deciding to blame my fate on (I gotta direct my ire somewhere).
Good luck!

This problem has nothing to do with root as th one-click works well with 2.3.5 and the new exploit works well on 2.3.6 .
We need to figure whats happening on part 18/18 that is leaving us with the errors
I've flashed back to 2.3.5 and re-updated to 2.3.6 a few times. I haven't had any problems. I used the original FXZ and followed Jim's original instructions to make it work. Perhaps the problem is in the updated FXZ?

My FXZ is from the original file and has saved my butt too many times to count and I tried it 3 times last night just to verify that I hadn't somehow corrupted it. Which instructions of Jim's are you referring to. I run out of time last night and 3 hrs sleep is working on me but I'm gonna try some different options after work today as I have a few things I've thought of this morning.
I'm either wrong about who posted it, or I can't find it through all of Jim's post. The steps have been posted and reposted several times. These are the steps I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22123805&postcount=73 I downloaded the replace.zip and didn't see anything that would cause a problem. I'm no expert by any means. The point of my post was to say that I've flashed back to 2.3.5 several times without a problem.
Could some hardware\software\firmware specific. Or whatever it is.
I followed that guide too, and ended at black screen. So it can work for some phones or for most, but for some not.

Thanks, as soon as I get a chance this evening I will take a look at the MD5's and compare them to make sure they are correct to what I had used with the replace zip in the nOOb thread just to make sure one isnt off somewhere.

Possibility or it could be that a extra step needs to be included in the replace.zip. that we need to make it work

I don't know if this will help or not, im just putting it out there. When i went back to 2.3.5, i replaced the files as it was stated to do. I could not get rsd to work on vista. It would fail every time. I had to use another computer running windows 7. It worked perfectly then.

[Q] Return AT&T Atrix 2 to Stock (2.3.6)?

I am having the same problem with Contacts and with process com.motorola.contacts force closing that many others are having. I had rooted as well as uninstalled bloatware (instead of freezing, yes, I know!). Tried unrooting, reinstalling Yahoo and AT&T apps as suggested, factory resets, everything. Contacts still acts the same; that is, I can get to it but can't edit individual contacts nor get to Contacts Storage. I think it must have something to do with AT&T Address Book, which won't reinstall (says not supported but was there before).
At this point I just want to return Atrix 2 to its stock, 2.3.6 configuration and start all over. Can anyone help me, or is that not "out" yet?
Follow the instructions on flashing the 2.3.5 FXZ listed here (the beginner's guide) and then use the OTA update to get to 2.3.6. Next time make a CWM backup before you try any ROMs! It is inevitable that you'll eventually get stuck in some sort of boot loop.

It's not hard at all! Just follow the instructions listed EXACTLY and make sure that your battery is well charged before you do this -- if it dies during the middle of something like this, you could run into a tricky problem.

It's alot easier than it sounds....and im no pro. I was able to successfully flash 2.3.5 to mine that way the first time around following the instructions in the noob thread.
Atrix 2//RebelROM//Tapatalk 2
so let me get this straight....
I had 2.3.5 rooted. I accepted the OTA update to 2.3.6, so naturally, it un-rooted me, although the superuser is still there. I tried the one click method for 2.3.6 after it came out, as I am a total NOOB and was afraid to try it and screw things up. That doesn't work. I tried to unroot it using the same method. Also didn't work. The superuser is still there and denying permissions.
Soooooooo, I have decided to do the FXZ method in the in the noob/general forum. I'm still unclear and afraid about how to do it. Am I supposed to go through the first 11 steps, then do the "replace" step that is added as a note? Speaking of the added note. It says to "move all the the items in it to the stock fxz". The "stock FXZ" is what i downloaded and did in step 1-11, right? I have searched the forums and this was the best place I could see to ask. Sorry for my extreme NOOBness.
Thanks in advance for helping, or just taking the timpe to read my post!

yes, this is made for windows computers and will work. uzip it and run the returntostoxk.bat file it will confirm your phone is connected (you have to be in fastboot mode) and after that just press enter and let it run and complete and youll be back to stock. you have to reroot your phone too, so id just update to the ota 2.6 and then root that, then intall your atrix bootstrap and then the bionic recovery from rom manager. then your ready to flash some roms again.

That was my only guess. I bought it mint from ebay. I'm hoping that is the issue with a bloatwsre getting removed.
Well...so good news and bad news.
This was phone I had purchased from Ebay. I works great. The problem I started with it receiving an update for 2.3.6, but it failed when attempting to update. From what I have read, this could be related bloated getting deleted.
I first attempted to find InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID28 5.zip, but wasn't able to find a working link.
I was pointed to using a .bat file by Rob in this thread. Thanks a bunch Rob. All went well; however, when attempting to perfrom the update to 2.3.6 it now gives me an out of system memory error. It doesn't even start to download the update...odd. It then ask me to factory reset. however, the factory reset then takes me back into a fastboot mode.
Any ideas of next steps? Do I need to attempt finding the original InlineFlashing file? If so, any idea where to find it?
Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help.

[HOW TO] get your AT&T phone onto ICS Leak #1 - Process Updated 11/11/2012

Ok everyone the leak is here!
I have tested it all day and it works very well, very smooth.
Don't post here if you are having issues with this leak itself. If you have issues with the process then by all means post in here with the issue.
So this is a how to with all the files needed being posted in here as well.
1) FXZ back to full 100% stock 2.3.6, ONLY if you were ON GB to begin with!!! If you started on the ICS OTA, then do not attempt this, you will Brick!!!
2) Download the file below called Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip and copy it to the root of your SDcard (it does not matter how it gets there)
3) Boot into stock recovery (power off, then while the phone is off hold both the Vol up and Vol down button, right in the middle, then hold the power button until you see the boot menu, then highlight recovery with the Vol down button, and select with the Vol up button).
4) Get to the recovery menu (you should see an android with an exclamation point, at this point) by holding the Vol up and Vol down button, then the menu will pop up, select install from /sdcard, then select the Blur file from the root of your sdcard, and tell it to flash it. You will flash a new recovery and see a droid laying down with it's belly open and red exclamation point, this is normal, just hit both Vol up and Vol down again to get the menu and select to flash from sdcard again and choose the same Blur file as before.
5) Boot into ICS, and root using the zip below, you will connect the phone to your computer and use the root.bat (unzip this folder to your desktop) for windows and root.sh for linux/mac.

Fxz back to 2.3.5 from ICS, ONLY USE THIS METOD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805975
Please do not post anything in this thread but install issues. DO NOT ASK IF YOU SHOULD UN-ROOT OR IF YOU CAN STAY ROOTED, OR IF YOU DID THE FXZ YESTERDAY ARE YOU OK. Follow the instructions above, or don't if you don't you will NOT get support.
Note: I am not responsible if you bootloop. brick or wreck your phone, or if your girl leaves you cause you play with your phone too much because of this. You are doing this of your own free will!
You will most likely not be able to get the "real" OTA while on this leak, and since the BL is going to be the same, you may not be able to install the "real" OTA at all, so when it comes out you will need to give the devs time to make it work for anyone who installed this. Again no complaints about this either, your dev team will find a way to make it work. You just need to give us the time needed when it comes out if there are any issues.
Anyone have a link to the 2.3.5 fkz? All the links I've checked are down!
WOO! Awesome!

THANKS! Also should the OTA be bigger than 29mb? NEVER MIND
After install this ICS leak, can we come back to 2.3.6 using Atrix2Bootstrap?
Quick question.. If I fkz from 2.3.6 wont we get the "invalid CG version error"? There's a thread to fix that but it says it takes stock recovery away (which is needed to flash the OTA). How do i downgrade?

I FXZ'd from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5 so I don't know about such a problem.

This is what I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20389449&postcount=1
Towards the bottom of the post there is an addition step to those who are already on 2.3.6. Just copy the files over to the fkz file, then it should work.

You are not 100% stock.... follow my directions, or it will not work... and don't install bootstrap, that is why your logwrap failed verification.

Wow...feel like a complete noob. I've used RSD Lite for my X2 plenty of times with SBF files. Don't know how to use this FXZ file though. Read other threads as well and dont know what to do with this 2.3.5 FXZ file? Been rooted on 2.3.6 for a month or so...still new to this device.

Atrix 2 ics leak #2 stuck on cm10 boot!

Okay, so here's a long story short. I flashed AT&T ICS leak #2 when I first got my replacement due to a brick. I ran SCV7 for a week or so and decided to try out CM10. I restored my backup of stock/rooted backup. Uninstalled highjacks, packages and app (bootmenu) itself. I then installed our OG A2 bootstrap, installed fine, installed CM10, played around with it for awhile. Realized I didnt reinstall the OG A2 Bootstrap so went ahead and did that. (without booting into recovery yet) I then later in the day decided to REBOOT my phone to only find me stuck on the CM10 boot animation. I battery pulled, plugged in to see if any recovery would show, none, just the battery charge percentage. I then battery pulled again, got into stock recovery, tried a data and cache wipe to no effect. My problem is, there is NO FXZ for the AT&T leak #2, I have no recovery besides stock and the only thing I can do is take my 32GB SD card out and add/delete files/everything. I saddly did not make a copy of the system.img but was wondering if anyone else possibly did? This would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck with a soft brick until then or a new FXZ to work with AT&T leak #2. Any suggestions or help is very much appreciated. Thanks all for reading and I'm praying for a miracle in my phone right about now lol!

Hey, and sort of welcome back...
But I hate to be the bearer of bad, bad news... you have a softbrick, and there is NOTHING you can do.
Next time, read everything in an OP... LOL, look who I am telling this to....
The CM10 installs come with their own CWM built in, and flashing bootstrap is what bootlooped you, so after you get another warranty replacement (yes, you HAVE to do this), I would install leak #1 ONLY, then flash cm10 with bootstrap, then do not reinstall any boot hijacks or CWM "like" recovery (bootmenu), because all you have to do it hit the vol down button right as you see the blue led flash during the M dual core logo.
Or enter the CM10 recovery menu and so on and so forth.
This is how I got out of a cm10 boot-loop.
I just restored from bootmenu backup via adb.

I will get with alteredlikeness and see if we can possibly think of something together on this one. The first thought would be to try an mearet/searet fxz for 2.3.6 since they can fxz back with out any mods to thier 2.3.6 or 2.3.5 fxz from thier ICS leaks, but I am thinking that will still brick you, but interested to see anyhow.
So I will see if alteredlikeness and I can think of some other way to try. He or I will PM you either way.

You know, I was seeing in recovery how youbcan flash an update through sd AND system which has a lost and found folder and recovery folder. Dont know if this is of any info but either way because I wouldnt know how to put anything in system since I cant seem to get adb to recognize or moto-fastboot...I'm in a very confused state of mind and almost came to the point of hard brick but I refuse. I'll leave it up to ya devs. Thanks againg everyone.
