Everything smooth except browsing - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got myself a Galaxy Tab 2 7" after so much self convincing that I had the money for one. My first impression was not great though. The system menus were juddery and browsing on stock browser, Opera Mobile and Chrome were even worse.
After I compared my tab to a friend's same model I realised that this was as good as it would get. Curses Samsung and their bloat! What the heck have they done here?
So after two days I flashed to CM9 and saw the improvements immediately. System menus were rapid like I expected from a 1ghz dual core device and NOVA 3 basked in slippery wet graphics that turned a corner of my mouth into a defiant smirk.
But browsing? No.
There was a slight improvement to the fluidity in browsing with the stock browser, Opera Mobile and Chrome. But the experience can be annoying at times as the judder is still not acceptable. Okay, its more prominent when the webpage is still loading, but even when it's finished and there's another webpage loading in the background, the judder is still the same.
Some desktop sites force you to stop swiping until the device can catch its breath, that's after everything's loaded and flash and scripts are turned off. It doesn't make sense. Surely this little powerhouse can render HTML better than this?
Does anybody else see the same as I do and if so, is there a fix or work around for it? Its 1ghz of dual core power, for heaven's sake!

Try latest build of cm9 9.1 or try cm10 with project butter work good in this tab
Also try disable addons in browser setting (flash will not work) and see results you could return again and enable them
Also try in developer options force gpu rendering ticked
Also try metallice overclocked kernel you could flash cm again and remove it overwrite if you want

Which build are you using? CM9, CM9.1 or CM10? Do you get the experience I get?
I don't use addons as I am a minimalist and I tried Force GPU Rendering to no effect. Overclocking for me is a no-no as I just stick to stock CM.
Question is:- Does anybody else experience the same as me. Surely overclocking is a bit overkill when everything else is pucker?

I use cm10 latest build from www.teamhacksung.org for 5100 tab 2 and use overclocking kernel of cm10 just flashed the kernel it overclocks gpu a little and you could flash it and not overclock at all (only gpu not cpu) set cpu speed to 1008 mhz in setting/performance a little overclock not hurt much if device is hot will reboot

DO NOT flash custom ROM because it will break your Gtab2 warranty.
seems you use 4.03, yes it lags alot.
But 4.04 is very smooth.
4.04 stock official from samsung updates, and it's smooth as butter. Browsing websites is very smooth indeed

4.0.4 is smoother but I still have some lag. Hopefully Jellybean will be released soon which should fix everything.

[Q] Why is my xoom so slow???

hey guys, I got a refurbished xoom the other day. it was kind of buggy. My android market crashes every time i try to download documentToGo and a couple of other apps. Sometimes the browser just keeps loading and loading and does not show a webpage at all. my web browser closes unexpectedly a couple of times today. It is slow to read pdf files. It is kinda frustrating.
Is this because my xoom is refurbished? Or you guys are all having this problems. Do you guys have any solution to that? Thanks.
It may be slow because it's refurbished, but that depends on the other problems. As far as the market goes, it's crap since the latest update, it closes on me a lot, it also gave me a problem with downloading docs to go, it wouldn't load the permissions so I could download. Some pdfs are slow depending on the content and the app being used to read it. Sounds like your problems are with apps and not the system, if the problems are bigger then I'd try to return it.
XOOOOOOOMIN!
i think u might try root it n flash a custom rom on it.
Mine is also factory refurbished (with one stuck pixel, how's that for QA) and mine was running somewhat slow until I flashed the Tachi kernel onto it. I'm debating flashing a new ROM, but at least a new kernel and an overclock will do you good, trust me.

Thanks for your advice. Would you mind give a link of the ROM?
I was running stock rom with both tachi and rogue kernels for a while...and it was a tad sluggish still.
Since then I have flashed moray and its been pretty awesome. Lots of extra functionality and the ability to use stock clocks for gpu while still overclocking is great. No lag at all.
OP you can find this ROM in Xoom development under Moray 2.2.2

I like the idea of this rom but I'm not sure I like some of the changes it makes (primarily with the battery icon and other small nitpicks.) Can I change these easily?
I had issues with my refurbished one lagging a lot even after overclocking until I reset the governor back to interactive. Also, the new rogue kernel helped with a few other lag issues I was having.

Jelly Bean + Nexus S = No.

Am I the only one? I tried so many ROMs, and every single one has same problems
- laggy
- slow
- buggy
- music player lags often
- won't unlock, takes about 3 seconds
- apps are slow
- going through home pages lags
And so many more. I think it's nice Google updated it to JB, but it's either Nexus going old or JB being terrible. I will probably revert to ICS AOKP soon :/

You're not the only one, but I don't have these problems. Jellybean is definitely a tad slower than previous Android versions, but the music player never lagged on me, unlocking is instant, apps are doing just fine and home pages scroll normally too.
try rasbean jelly.
I use AOKP JellyBean ROM and it's smooth as a babies butt.
After a full wipe, coming from jellybro, with bedalus kernel 7.4.6 and strawberry.... It works really well. Two considerations:
The battery is the same with ICS;
It's nicer and a lot of people develop for us

I have no problem with my Nexus and Jelly Bean, I'm using slim rom 2.6.0
For the battery try to see what is wasting it in my case the problem was an exchange account and gps turned on.
Also try to fully charge your phone at 20% with it turned off in my case battery runs for almost 24 hours after doing it.
What Simms says. Don't understand why people have that issue of slow phones.

Slim Bean 2.6 + Air Kernel Weekly 224 (NonBigMem) = better performance and battery life than stock hands down.
Running CM 10 Latest Nightly + Marmite 4.7 OC'd to 1.2Ghz and it's been running absolutely smooth for me.
rasbeanjelly + trinity kernel = yes
stock JRO03L
flashed via fastboot.
works like a charm, better battery life than in ics

Have you tried using a custom kernel? And how do you wipe your phone before flashing new ROM's?
OP needs to format his SD card along with a factory reset.. Key being formatting that SD card.
Hm lets see: lets base opinion of one person against numerous others. Yeah, seems legit, JB is a ****tard on NS.

tf700 sluggish

Someone may be able answer but i doubt but i have to ask the question...
Had my tf since november - the business on it as soon as it was out of the box. But no matter what image ive loaded onto it its always been slow ( i think ive tried them all) ie my nexus4 runs greasy smooth compared to my tf, almost to the point that a guy at work gave me a 300 to unlock and his seemed a lot better/smoother/faster than mine....is it just mine or is it the norm
currently im on cyanogen 10.1 latest nightly with the bryce overclocked kernel running at 1.9gb if i was a betting man i would say the nova launcher was running about 10fps with all the special effects off...as a guide...
ps especially the browser - no matter which one it always takes ages to load pages....
Thanks to anyone that can shed any light on it....
I must admit I struggle with your story language-wise, but I think I do get your general statement. CROMI, for example, should run smoothly, no matter what, UNLESS your device is faulty.
I'd recommend wiping EVERYTHING -- so you do not run into remnants form earlier ROMs/installations -- and starting anew with CROMI, just to be sure. Update your bootloader (to the JB version), and then try data2SD if it is still not to your liking.

And to add to Marty's efforts what ever you do if flashisg from a custom recovery with JB 4.1 or later do not use an older version of any recovery!
Hi - which rom is that...?
I must say im kind of trying that right now....complete wipe, factory reset and then a factory reset from the recovery screen....its auto loading the apps at the moment....thanks for the reply all the same....ive never tried that bit of software that goes on the memory card...is there a walkthrough somewhere?
im pretty sure im on the jb bootloader but is there a way to check??
You can flash the latest bootloader form page 2 of the CleanRom Inheritance thread And CROMI from page 1
Mr read PLZ
As far as I know stock TF700 related ROMs are laggy and require a custom Over clocked kernel such as Clemsyn which is rubbish and even with this performance is sluggish. But her is a way to get rid of the lag once and for all. Unlock and root the TF700. Then install Cyanogenmod 10.1 latest build and then when you boot into it set the IO as CFQ permenantly and then use Seeder with the settings on aggressive and the IO extend option unticked but all the rest of the options ticked. Also use lightning browser or Browser2RAM which enhances the stock Android browsers performance.
After that enjoy a super fast transformer like never before. Don't use any other rom . My transformer got nearly 150000 on Antutu which is really good and I got nearly 5500 on Quadrant with it on performance mode (I didn't use the custom CM10.1 customs kernel or any other one just the stock CM10.1 kernel). My transformer in balanced seems to be on par with an iPad 2, 3 and better than a normal Asus transformer Prime or TF300 and I have over 40 applications with several games with 1+GB data. The IO problem is still there as it is hardware based although with this their is nearly no lag for the first time. Beautiful TF700 CyanogenMod developers. I read the commit log and checked the code many gerrit optimisations for the IO and Armv7 cores. Enjoy!!!!! Wohoo Project Butter!!!!!
Continue Cyanogenmod providing better support than Asus. One reason to jailbreak (Root) is because of this.

Well not to brag but flash CROMI which is based on stock and you can achieve 17000 on antutu and over 7000 on quadrant. So much for stock ROMs being laggy eh?
Now with no overclocking you are looking at 5500 - 6000 on quadrant so would seem to be on par with CM based ROMs. I do like CM but you lose some functionality whilst gaining others and you have to suffer some stability issues especially if doing nightlies. Also they never seem to finish them.....

[Q] Help me make my phone usable again!

Hey guys, I currently am running Slim bean 4.2.2 build 4 on my NS4g. Sadly, I'm thinking Jelly Bean has to go... I love Jelly Bean and all the features, but since I updated to Jelly Bean, my phone has been running so friggin slow. To the point where it hangs doing simple things. I can't stand it anymore and I just need this thing to last til Sept at least. I've also tried other Jelly Bean based ROMs with similar problems. AOKP was less slow, but it had some weird annoying bugs that bothered me. CM10 was even less slow but I got raped on battery life.
So, sadly, I'm thinking I need to go back to Ice Cream Sandwhich. My phone ran it great back when I had it, but I'm gonna miss JB... Unless anyone has any other ideas? Maybe completely wipe and reformat my SD card? That's the only thing I really thought of. Thought it might clean things up a bit. But my other question was which ICS ROM should I switch to? I was thinking AOKP Milestone 6, CM 9.1, SlimICS, or...?
Thanks in advance.
I recently got my gf a nexus s but hated all the slowdowns and reboots on all jb roms I tried, until I tried jellyshot with marmite 8.5 bigmem kernel. She loves her phone now, hope tbis helps

How does rasbeanjelly compare to the other JB ROMs? And I just read somewhere else about greenify. Ill look into that as well.
latest hellybean rom with devil kernel(it comes with the rom) is really fast and stable. never had a random reboot with it. try it
I had terrible lag in all the JB roms too. What I did was searching for an efficient kernel. I found marmite, which is fast and stable. I am using the bigmem version with its stock settings, you don't need to OC at all.
As for ICS, I thought it was smoother too, t I found out, it was only because it had less resource-heavy animations. There is a solution for this. Nova launcher has the option to overwrite the default JB animations and change it to ICS ones. In my case it really made a huge difference. If you want to try this, you only have to upgrade your rom to build 5, since Nova is the new default launcher in Slim.
Hope this helps,
Cheers.

As of right now, I am now rocking Rasbean with Matr1x Kernal and I must say, WOW, what a difference. So far the lag has become a minimum problem, depending on what I am doing. Also, the battery life is much better now too. I never OC or anything like that. I had greenify installed but found that most the apps I use cant go into hibernation except the ones I do want updating in the background. As far as animations, I disable those anyways. They are enabled on my Nexus 7, but that can handle it much better than my phone lol. So now I am generally satisfied until I can get the Galaxy S 4. Or if something else happens to come out that is better by the end of the year, but I highly doubt it.

What's best current ROM for Optimus 3D?

Hi everybody!
I use xbsa ROM with large partitions since it was released (Rogers version, v30c). But it lags a lot. I have home screen redraws (quite noticeable, up to 5 seconds). My Chrome browser quits by itself, etc...
Anyway, I want to reinstall clean ROM. From what I see in developers section right now there are two supported ROMs: from OptimusRS and kidkoala_uk.
What's you opinion, which one feels more stable and battery friendly? I don't need high benchmark numbers, I need high battery life. I use my phone for surfing web at work and checking emails, so I throttled CPU down to 800 MHz.
Thanks for ideas!

all have lag!
I think the screen re-draw problem is a v30 bug. I have tried a few custom roms and have settled with OptimusRs latest rom. It seems to be quite battery friendly and I do not use any custom cpu settings. It is based on ICS V30A which is a euro open version, so unsure on compatibility with your network provider. There are some tips on performance mods to the rom in the thread which might be of interest before installing. Hope this helps you in some way.
Thanks!
Yes, I'm in Canada so will need to check compatability.
Thanks for suggestions, I'm really leaning towards RS, it's just too much work to reinstall and resetup everything.
But I guess it's like my Win PC - I wipe everything every 4-5 years to get rid of all accumulated crap
Thanks again!

Get Supercharger or PurePerformance. I Used VR3D before 2 or 3 weeks ago with PurePerformance mod and no redraws but if you want new rom then go for OptimusRSs Jellycream v3 + Shazo Kernel this combination is very smooth and battery life better then average

Hummm,with that qualifications i only advice one.:good:
ICS GPCR 1.2 by P-VLAD is the best in battery and is only for the way you want to use.
Just check HERE
Then tell me if is or no what do you looking for .
Sorry my english dude.
Please, no "Which ROM is the best/most stable" threads. Try one out and see if you like it. If not, try another one.
