[Q] Why is my xoom so slow??? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, I got a refurbished xoom the other day. it was kind of buggy. My android market crashes every time i try to download documentToGo and a couple of other apps. Sometimes the browser just keeps loading and loading and does not show a webpage at all. my web browser closes unexpectedly a couple of times today. It is slow to read pdf files. It is kinda frustrating.
Is this because my xoom is refurbished? Or you guys are all having this problems. Do you guys have any solution to that? Thanks.

It may be slow because it's refurbished, but that depends on the other problems. As far as the market goes, it's crap since the latest update, it closes on me a lot, it also gave me a problem with downloading docs to go, it wouldn't load the permissions so I could download. Some pdfs are slow depending on the content and the app being used to read it. Sounds like your problems are with apps and not the system, if the problems are bigger then I'd try to return it.
XOOOOOOOMIN!

i think u might try root it n flash a custom rom on it.

Mine is also factory refurbished (with one stuck pixel, how's that for QA) and mine was running somewhat slow until I flashed the Tachi kernel onto it. I'm debating flashing a new ROM, but at least a new kernel and an overclock will do you good, trust me.

Thanks for your advice. Would you mind give a link of the ROM?

I was running stock rom with both tachi and rogue kernels for a while...and it was a tad sluggish still.
Since then I have flashed moray and its been pretty awesome. Lots of extra functionality and the ability to use stock clocks for gpu while still overclocking is great. No lag at all.
OP you can find this ROM in Xoom development under Moray 2.2.2

I like the idea of this rom but I'm not sure I like some of the changes it makes (primarily with the battery icon and other small nitpicks.) Can I change these easily?

I had issues with my refurbished one lagging a lot even after overclocking until I reset the governor back to interactive. Also, the new rogue kernel helped with a few other lag issues I was having.

[Q] might be coming back to G2x...?'s

How is CM7 working now? when I had one, it would drop data, boot with no data, and the battery drivers were all screwed up...how is it now? Have a lot of the mistakes been corrected from the original G2x's that were shipped? (reboots, data drops, etc)...??? Any help would be appreciated. Tired of this Single core phone, and found a good deal on a G2x.

Mine is working great.. Came running 2.3.3 with no problems. I rooted and left stock rom for awhile still no problems. Then flashed faux123's oc/uv kernel ran fantastic. Tried a few different roms and settled on triggers 8/22 2.3.5 rom with faux123's oc/uv kernel as my daily driver with no problems so far...

Running the CM7 nightly on my G2x for past two days. Haven't noticed any problems. Been stable, battery life is good.
The APN Issue is still there, but it no longer drops data. Battery life is AMAZING now.
I couldn't deal with the piece of **** iPhone 4. I came running back to the G2x. Ive kept it stock so far and it's amazing!

I've been running MIUI. WiFi Calling isn't working yet (which sucks) but I'm using Faux's 4.2 Kernel and getting great battery life and very little issues.
With Faux's kernel, WiFi will sometimes fail which requires a restart, and sometimes using USB Mass Storage will lock up.
Sounds bad, but aside from WiFi calling not working, the other issues are pretty rare.

yes one of the most stable roms, it is based off stock 2.3.3 but imo way better with the edt tweaks such as lockscreens and battery configurations, very fast and reliable
By the way. Has the reboot issue been fixed if i flash the newest weapon?

For me, I had absolutely no reboots at all on the newest version until I went and flashed Faux's OC/UV kernel. To be fair, my battery life is plenty better, just a little unstable. Weapon by itself is amazing.
EDIT: Forgot to say I came from 2.3.5, so I came from a complete wipe.

What roms are the fellow rogers people flashing?

I've been on stock for several months now and still loving it, but today I decided I think I would now move onto flashing a rom on this. (Inspiration to do so because of the iPhone 4s) I notice this phone does lag and I want to clear that up if a rom will do that. So my question is what Rom would be safe for a Roger's phone and will not boot up with one of those AT&T screens. What rom is everyone using out there?
Im more or less just asking for a suggestions haha.

I was on doctorz v8, but v9 turned me away from them, so im trying to make one from 2 different ones... probably going to be obbsession without its artwork, and put in the mosiac dialer... glad im not the only canadian in this forum eh?! haha
Infused. Based off Rogers stock, optimized and just plain perfect. Its a shame that it got pushed down the list from all the ports...

Have you looked into overclocking?
I'm running the stock Rogers Gingerbread 2.3.3 and love it.
Overclocked to 1.6Ghz
Infusion-GB Core-A2
OC/UV w/ SetCPU
Memory tweaks w/ Auto killer
I get outstanding performance, perfectly stable & have doubled my stock battery life.
Overclocking will give you much greater performance increases over a ROM change, especially since we're fortunate enough to have been given the lovely Gingerbread stock.
Undervolting will keep you running cool & save you a lot of battery power too.

Xoom is sluggish, even after a wipe

So my Xoom was running really sluggish at times. so I said the heck with it, backed up what I needed and whipd it out!
it still seems pretty sluggish. not terible, but there are a lot of things that are not nearly as smooth as it should be.
the Tablet WAS rooted, and with another Kernal, but i put it all back to stock (I think) and still seems a little off.
ideas?
thanks

Stock is the most sluggish. On top of overclocked cpu, I use overclocked gpu kernel as well and the ADW EX launcher. That's a prescription for butter smoothness.
i dont remember it being so slugish when i first got it?

Even when you get everything set up the way you want it, things get laggy sometimes.
I do the following: reboot to refresh the system, free up ram by various means, including making sure that no memory hogs are running in the background, etc...Autostart root app helps to keep stuff from starting at or just after boot, which helps you manage your memory too.
Also make sure you are using the interactive (or lagfree if you so desire) governor for your kernel. That solved my laggyness problem with my refurb.

Hi
What is lagfree? Is it a kernel? How to get that?
Is there a good app to show what is using the most memory or resources so i can uninstall? I use advanced task killer and it kills my apps every now and then and performance improves but they comr back even thougj i didnt run them. How can i prevent apps from loading into mem except when i launch. I went to their settings and disables anything that runs on interval but they still run.
Thanks.
Note; currently i am 3.2.1 rooted.
As I said, Auto Starts is a great app to control what runs automatically. I also use Active apps to show me what is running so I can close it if needed. There are a number of good root apps that can do the trick. Why not check out the list in the Xoom Heaven thread at the top of page one of the General Forum.
Thanks for the reply I will give that a try...
I noticed having a lot of open browser tabs kills the speed big time.

Even bone stock the Xoom is not sluggish. I would say there is a problem or you did not fully wipe the device. On some devices the kernel could potentially cause a problem.
If memory is not super low, connection speeds is usually the culprit.

Most Stable/Best Rom

Hey guys,
In your opinion, what is the most STABLE Rom, and what would you consider to be the best?
I have been using Weapon G2X and Its my favorite so far, as far as features go, but Its crazy buggy, Random reboots 10 times a day atleast! So I want something a little more stable. (unless someone knows a fix to the random reboots)
Also, Whats the best way to backup your texts, settings, and app data and settings before you flash a new rom? Also keep in mind I just switched from an iphone to the G2X a few weeks ago, so i am pretty new to the android scene in general.
My backup pro is a great program to save bookmarks, text messages, applications etc, so is titanium backup pro. I will say latest cm nightlies with faux. 4.7. Kernel is a very smooth/stable experience, also just flashed eaglesblood 2.5 two days ago and its also an excellent rom especially with fauxs latest kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
In my opinion Eaglesblood 2.4 was the most stable rom i have used on my G2X. There were absolutely no issues; everything ran 100%. But because it was updated im going to go ahead and say that you should use Eaglesblood 2.5.

for me is miui with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073626 is pretty good no ramdom boot ups
Im using weapon and I also had reboot issues until I went with fauxs UV/OC kernel .0.1.3 and set the minimum frequency to 500 using pimp my cpu.
And for backups I always just make a backup in cwm right before flashing and afterwards do an advanced restore, data only. On top of restoring data it sets your phone back up exactly how you had it. And I've had problems with some backup apps losing my data at random.

Weapon's been great for me so I'm not sure, maybe every phone reacts differently. I did have a bluetooth issue on 2.8 so I downgraded to 2.7 and it's been working.
Definitely Eaglesblood.....Fastest and the best rom I have ever used!!!!!
I'd say the latest Cyanogenmod nightly, with either a Trinity(morfic) or faux123 kernel.
faux123's Debauchedsloths battery driver kernel *amazing battery life, but bad battery percentage readings.
Found morfics kernels to be slightly better, although fauxs work is fantastic!
thanks for all the suggestions guys!
Ive installed eaglesblood and so far I am liking it.
The only problem I have run into so far, is that everyone I talk to on the phone (daily) has commented how quiet I sound sense flashing. Never had this problem before, any suggestions?
I have NO issues at all with the latest CM Nightly running faux's 0.4.7 sv. Unfortunately my device won't allow the OC/UV kernel as it never boots after flashing it. I would love to run the DS version but I think I'd have a real hard time with the funky battery readings. Does this happen to everyone who uses it or is it just hit and miss? Any way to fix it?

[Q] General performance question...

I'm wondering if anyone can weigh in on how their device performs out of the box. I got mine on Saturday and unlocked it and am thinking of installing some of CM9's work because I've always like what he's done on the Droids, but I'm noticing that this tablet, for lack of a better way to say, is awful.
It freezes all the time. When you get into a the browser, whether it's stock or chrome, the pages are unresponsive to zoom in and out. I mean ultimately your action will be performed, but I've seen it take 5 seconds. It's actually unbearable. My D4 NEVER has this problem EVER and the tablet should blow the D4 away.
How does everyone else's tf300 work? And will custom ROM's improve this awful experience? I don't want to have to take it back and I won't if there is potential somewhere that I'm not realizing. I have 10 days left to decide and right now, it's a no-go. So if anyone can share their experience I'd love to hear it.
I bought my tf300 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. I unlocked it and installed aokp this morning and things have been great. Haven't noticed any lag viewing webpages, youtube, music etc. I've been very happy with this tabIet, as it's my first one. I believe aokp allows you to overclock to 1.5ghz (obviously it drains batteries a little bit more) but even on the stock asus rom, i encountered no lag whatsoever.
as shocking as it might be to know..i have not yet rooted the tf300t. i've been using it for over a month now..i got it the week that it came out..and i've happy with it. every once in a while you will see a "freeze" for now reason. It does seem to freeze more on startup because it is trying to do several things at once (like update gmail, corporate account, and sync up other things). But after that it is really smooth.
I was talking to another friend about this and he managed to hunt down someone else having similar issues to me and Asus declared their product to be defective, issue a new one, which works "flawlessly". I guess it's back to Office Depot I go. I refuse to let Apple win.
Hopefully you get a working one, I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. The aokp rom is quick and fun to use, and I refuse to ever own apple products. Go android!
I bought mine about 2 weeks ago , and it freezes one or 2 times , but in general works great , didn't unlocked and changed to custom roms yet but will in future , but for now i am loving it

Have it now for 6+ weeks. Stock/rooted. Works like a champ. Good tablet apps are the issue, not the tab. No way you should have the issues you do.
Still Charged Up
Nice performance
Got mine 3 weeks before. unlocked it and rooted from the second day, i am really happy from the latest update the us.30 for me. i dont experience any lag or freezes or force closes at all. The performance is better but it always depends on the owner.
I found useful to install an app called autostarts (needs root) that prevents apps from being loaded at any time u use your device.
For example i cant understand why google play store must open when i remove an application. With this program i prevent things from loading at startup of the device, so i have a quicker startup time and i know that no other apps are in use when i dont need them and only working is the app that i use.
U can see what apps are runnig at any time with a task manager or something relevant.
So as i say before the performance of a device depends also on the owner.
I bought 2 tf300's, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine has Cyanogenmod 9 on it, hers has stock (.30 firmware).
I will say that mine is noticeably faster, Chrome doesn't lag hardly ever, hers freezes up a lot more.
You should be careful about some apps too, Facebook in my opinion is the worst. That app will cause your phone/tablet to lag like nothing else, as soon as I uninstalled Facebook on my girlfriends tablet it was like a brand new machine (though still not quite as fast as CM 9)

I was having this issue also and was getting pretty fed up with it.
However, after doing a reset on the device it works perfectly now. Resetting the device formats the primary partition and takes it back to stock (keeping firmware updates). You can get to this option by turning the device off and holding the volume down button when powering on and it should be the second option. This stopped the force closes and lags with my TF300T
I know that asus has loaded some bloatware on the tablet which cause it to lag occasionaly so i used seanz rom. It's so fast it's scary it really takes advantage of the power of this tablet.

Yeah. Seanz' Hydro rom makes stock appear laggy and unresponsive my device was running slow before the. 30 firmware update.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
The lag is mostly happening due to the I/O scheduler in the kernel. We probably won't see the true performance on this tablet until we get a custom kernel. The source is on ASUS's website but no kernel hackers have this device. The lag only shows when mounting and un mounting SD cards, writing to SD cards/NAND and downloading/updating Play store apps.
The only fix I know so far is to go find a SIO scheduler from the Transformer Prime's forum and install it. I did that and the lag went away but looking at benchmarks for I/O schedulers (noop vs SIO), noop has lag but higher scores and SIO has very little or no lag with lower scores.
