Hey guys,
As the title says, I need to downgrade to Gingerbread firmware of my country's [India] stock ROM.
I am currently on ICS XXLQ7. I have Nandroid backup of my country's stock ROM.
But is it safe to downgrade from ICS to GB using a nandroid backup?
The reason of me saying "need to" above is because my cell's been USB Bricked! For the second f*cking time! Same way as before--> Galaxy R not getting detected on PC nor charging via a charger
Now I again have to give my cell to SSC to get my charging port replaced. Looks like they gave me faulty charging port last time. That's why it has happened again! I am sooooo going to f*ck them now!
So please tell me if it is safe to downgrade from ICS to GB using a nandroid backup [CWM Backup] ?
If possible, can someone please give me CWM flashable stock kernel of Indian GB ROM? Also, can you give me CWM Flashable modem?
Thanks in advance.

USB port damaged
I am having the same problem where my USB port has gone kaput and now my phone is not getting connected via USB. The charging is also not reliable as it charges once in 20 times . Since I am on ICS and rooted, I wanted to flash Indian Stock GB ROM but unable to do so. Does anyone have a CWM flashable version of the Stock Indian ROM that I can use to get back to GB before I can give the phone to SSC? Thanks in advance.

I understand that by wiping data or factory reset /data can be formatted but how did you format /system? It would be great if you can give me the steps. Also I am thinking of restoring a Nandroid backup of GB ROM that I have (at least I think that it is GB). Would it be safe to restore it via CWM.

Well I had a chat with 1337SereniTyx3 on the phone and he gave me the confidence to follow the steps given in his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663812. I followed these steps and got back to GB and now my SGR is with the SSC. As mj.vijram mentioned the SSC didnt even bother to check the baseband. Hopefully I will get the phone back by tomorrow.
Edit: Got the phone back today itself yay!!! Just dying to go back home and upgrade to ICS.

we need the correct pit file so we can re partition the device in odin to gb without bricking the device.
Odin one click partitions the device for ics that is why the internal memory card gets wiped. if someone can figureout how to extract the one click file and get the pit for that we may be able to rebuild the pit for gb with a mount list from stock gb.

Just use ODIN to flash the I727 firmware from SamMobile. It'll restore GB and the correct baseband at the same time without tripping the counter. When I did it, it actually saved and ported my apps and user data back into the GB firmware. I'm not sure what that was about, but it was kina nice. Of course, the phone wasn't rooted after the flash so some of the apps (that require superuser) wouldn't function, but it didn't matter because I used ODIN to install CWM and then just restored the last nandroid I did before I flashed the ICS leak. You can also use CWM to flash whatever baseband you want because the nandroid won't do that.

If you try doing just this without the other steps you are just about guaranteed a brick!
EDIT...I see were some have had luck using a nandroid to get from GB to ICS, but it only seems to work for some. I have not seen anything about going from ICS to GB with a nandroid. Personally, I think it best to just use stock firmware ODIN method until things are ironed out a bit more.
I nandroid back to gb from ics just fine, but I highly recommend u use the darksode script first and then restore backup, it configures partitons for u.
All I did to go back to GB is full wipe then flash the GB rom I wanted then rebooted. I'm even using the UCLA4 BB and working fine for me.

I just did a nandroid restore from ICS Leak to GB backup. just like that. worked great.
That ICS leak is just too unstable yet. too many lock ups. and alot of black screens,
I like GB. I thought i would be able to stick with the ICS but maybe when a more stable release comes out.

Which ICS rom are you talking about lol? There's a least 3 in the android development section that are quite stable, and have none of the problems you're talking about::
ICS Superlite - MHX

Can any one tell me what i did wrong?
I used a I727UCALC4_OneClick package to flash my at&t i727 to android 4.0.3. For some reason my home button and search button did not work so i said to return back to stock.
I flashed the phone with SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane thru ODIN to return to stock 2.3.5 . I then tried to do a OTA update to 2.3.6. The update downloads and starts installing , reboots the phone and fails to finish.
Any help please ? Thanks
I tried doing this myself last night. Remember you will lose your root once taking it to 2.3.5, so re root using Odin, then, reboot. Then follow the root instructions as outlined by user k0nane here at xda. Then get into clockwork mod recovery mode and restore to the backup version you did of 2.3.6...much easier process than trying to flash stock. Hope that helps.

You might have renamed the backup, the backup might be corrupt, or you did the backup with a different version of cwm than you are trying to restore it with.
If this helps I got here a copy of my mhx lite 2.3.6 I made before going to 4.0.3

Its mhx superlite 3.1 but if the rom will work you can later on flash whatever you want. Atm you seem to be stuck with an unusable phone so anything is better.
Go to sammobile.com
make an account
go to firmware section
type i727 in the box
scroll down and download the tar
extract with 7zip
Flash in odin
Then drink beer and such
i was able to flash tru cwm a att rom that worked. Everything works ok now.
It is possible to transfer my data from the backup into this working rom ?
Just flash modem. To match firmware....

I'm not sure bro but what you mentioned is the right way to go back to GB. But im not sure what did Dhiru told you about modem. What im doing is i have my backup custom rom of GB. So if i want to go back to GB i just restore it from CWM.
dude, a very simple instruction from Dhiru, do not flash modem with odin, it will corrupt your partition of CM alpha 4 which is using MTP system.
Alfix, have explain that use adb push to push the modem.bin of your choose to the /radio partition if you face radio issue or use a CWM flash zip to flash in recovery mode.
so, due to the new mtp partition system introduce by Dhriu CM10 alpha 4, the odin will not be use to flash anything. including the custom kernel.
how to go back to stock? you need to use odin with pit file, Lalotion case is a accident.
1. makesure your odin can detect your phone....
2. flash pit file first or together with XXKPE tar with or without bootloader. DON'T tell me it wont work, me and most of the member have done that, IT WORK!!
3. after flash KPE, your phone will reboot as normal.

So if you're having prolems with preload partition you need this:
PRELOAD PARTITION RESTORER
* [12-MAY-2013] The following CWM zip will restore your preload partition. You would need this in case you are restoring EMBRYO-7.x from a nandroid or you messed up the preload partition. In case of Nandroid restore, do it after you restored in the *same* session (that is flash it before you reboot). preload-restore-EMBRYO-7.x-cwm.zip
