[Q] Fail to update 2.3.6 after stock flash Skyrocket i727 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Can any one tell me what i did wrong?
I used a I727UCALC4_OneClick package to flash my at&t i727 to android 4.0.3. For some reason my home button and search button did not work so i said to return back to stock.
I flashed the phone with SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane thru ODIN to return to stock 2.3.5 . I then tried to do a OTA update to 2.3.6. The update downloads and starts installing , reboots the phone and fails to finish.
Any help please ? Thanks

I tried doing this myself last night. Remember you will lose your root once taking it to 2.3.5, so re root using Odin, then, reboot. Then follow the root instructions as outlined by user k0nane here at xda. Then get into clockwork mod recovery mode and restore to the backup version you did of 2.3.6...much easier process than trying to flash stock. Hope that helps.

You might have renamed the backup, the backup might be corrupt, or you did the backup with a different version of cwm than you are trying to restore it with.

If this helps I got here a copy of my mhx lite 2.3.6 I made before going to 4.0.3

so cwm doesnt restore a backup if it was not made with the same cwm version ?

i was able to fix the md5 mismatch and it restored successfully, however it does not boot now. It stalls and the samsung logo.

Try using the restore I linked, something just seems wrong with yours

Sometimes it does and sometimes it has problems

Also did you flash the right modem as well?
Correct me if I'm wrong but cwm doesn't backup the modem as I recall

Its mhx superlite 3.1 but if the rom will work you can later on flash whatever you want. Atm you seem to be stuck with an unusable phone so anything is better.

Go to sammobile.com
make an account
go to firmware section
type i727 in the box
scroll down and download the tar
extract with 7zip
Flash in odin
Then drink beer and such

i was able to flash tru cwm a att rom that worked. Everything works ok now.
It is possible to transfer my data from the backup into this working rom ?

Just flash modem. To match firmware....

UCLA3 modem, firmware and rom were flashed and everything works great. I only need to transfer my user data from the backup. Can i flash only the user data to the phone from that original backup?

pretty risky if the backups corrupt anyway... but you can try (i would make a back up first)

[Q] Best way to downgrade from GB V2.0.2 to Infused V1.5.3?

I am on GTG's GB ROM V2.0.2 but want to go back to Froyo v1.5.3 as i am seeing some issues like phone freezing way too often. I had backed up V1.5.3 using ROM MANAGER. Can i just go to CWM and install v1.5.3 backup? OR do I need to go to stock ROM 1st? Any help is appreciated! Dont want to brick my infuse
For whatever reason my back ups did not work (i think it is a number of variables like pit this vs pit that and green vs red clockwork but didnt spend much time on it)
sooo.....i did the 1click back to stock.. Super 1click root basically staryed over...reinstalled recovery and then flashed my backup.
I am still playing with the whole "why cant i just restore a back up" but dont have much time this week to mess with that this week

The easiest way to backup using titanium backup, and then flash 1.5.3 using CWM and then factory reset using CWM. I have done this many times, and am willing to help you if you need.

Just went back to Odin - Stock ( Root+3e), then installed V1.5.3, nothing was deleted from SD card... just the apps
Will now only upgrade to GB once ATT releases GB, had too many issues with Roger GB!

You have gone from gtgs gb build back to froyo many times?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using XDA App
You cannot restore a froyo backup from a gingerbread cwm recovery. You need to go to stock first using gtg's unbrick. Then I suggest after the first boot to do a factory reset from the settings within the phone not cwm. Then root and flash a froyo kernel using sgs kernel flasher from the market.
After that you can restore a backup with no problems.

That's exactly what I said above...but loglud is either misreading what the op is trying to do... or claims to be doing so from cwm...
Just realized tonight that if you use this file in this thread...you go back to ROOTED stock, with modded 3e recovery...takes a few steps out if you are just trying to get back to rooted stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
and use this file name he attached at the end of the post

-> From GTG's GB V2.0.2, went to stock ( root+3e recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
-> Then install V1.5.3 froyo in CWM. Wipe data/factory reset for safe side. Just the Apps get deleted.. Data on Internal SD is not wiped.

trying it now...I think the factory reset is the step I was missing
edit: indeed..that is the step I was missing
Thanks guys!
1. Back up current GB rom
2. Flash Froyo ROM
3. Factory Reset via CWM
4. Boot
5. Let system settle
6. Reboot into recovery
7. restore back up of said froyo rom
worked like a charm

What did I do wrong

I'm running NexusMod GB 4.3, did a few Nandroids to be carefull. In a stroke of genious decided I wanted to try the ISC radio w/ GB, flashed UCLD2, rebooted, no signal. I said no problem I'll just restore the nandroid I just did. Well the restore did not work because cwm said the md5 did not match. I have since reinstalled the GB 4.3 zip and all is good.
I am using the old sd card from my HTC Incredible 2 which is formatted ext3. I'm thinking this might be the issue.
Why did my nadroids not work?
Sorry if this has been covered before.
My understanding is that ICS uses EXT4 formatting. Possibly by flashing an ICS modem it may have hosed up the GB formatting (EXT3). This is just a guess on my part.

First of all what version of cwm are you running in your phone? Seems ya got a corrupted nandroid backup or was made with different version of cwm at the first time. BTW try to flash the modem back to ucalc4 to see if ya can get signal working again. Hope this can help.

The cwm version I used on the last backup is 5.8.1.3 touch. I got signal back just by reflashing the original Nexusmod zip

I think I know where you went wrong. When you tried to restore your backup, That would have restored only your rom. When you flash the radio, it stays regardless until you replace it. That is of course unless you flash in a rom which has a radio included.

I had that problem too, and searched around, and found that if your backup in your CWM folder is missing the nandroid.md5 file (for whatever reason) then CWM wont restore.
What I did, and it's up to you if you want to risk flashing a possibly corrupt backup, create a blank nandroid.md5 file, place it in the backup folder, and go to CWM and re-flash.
OK, I got it to work. I actually read sk8erwitskils thread and followed the directions. The .hiddenandroidprocess file was missing. I put it in the correct sdcard/clockworkmod location, mounted sdcard like he said to do and everything works now.

[Q]-MD5 sum bad on a restore point

I recently backed up my rooted but stock Tab2, 7.0 and loaded an ICS rom. I wanted to go back to my stock but when I try to restore, I am getting an error that the MD5 sum is not matching. Anybody have any idea how I might be able to use this backup?
Have you tried to flash another version of cwm ?
Or try to flash stock rom via odin from for example www.samfirmware.com

Haven't done another CWM. I did flash another rom but I'm going to be sticking with it so I don't need the back up anymore. It was just odd as it was the first time I'd seen that happen.

I once experienced the same thing - it turned out that nandroid backups initiated using ROM Manager couldn't be restored using recovery and vice versa. If you decide to try again try both.

I have not been successful flashing stock recovery as a blob or img file; and yes I have tried.
I have always had to flash the complete firmware which means total loss of apps and data.
You could consider backing up your apps and data with many of the options available. Many swear by titanium backup. I don't use it. Maybe search for backup apps that also handle data.
I use app2zip pro or rom toolbox pro and just bite the bullet for any data lost.
Good Luck!

Lost nandroid

I went into recovery, wiped data/factory reset and cleaned my caches then went to restore my nandroid for mb1, but it said the md5 failed and couldn't restore it, so I rebooted the phone and now it's back to complete stock/unrooted. Is there a way to fix it and be able to restore my nandroid, or do I have to start fresh? I lost all my pics and apps, it's there a way to restore those?

What rom were you on originally before your nandroid restore failed? Can you find any of your pics using a File Explorer? Lastly, how did you verify that you have lost root: did you look in /system/xbin/su or download an app such as Root Checker to verify you have lost root?
I was only stock rooted. Was on the newest md3, and like I said I did all the wipes in CMW then went into restore backup and selected my nandroid of mb1 and pressed ok, but it said the md5 was mismatched. Couldn't figure anything out so I did a reboot and it was like a new phone.....no superuser, titanium backup wouldn't get SU permissions and it would only boot into stock recovery. Plugged the phone into laptop and saw the nandroid on the sd card but not sure how to reroot and fix the nandroid

The best I could suggest if you are truly unrooted is to re-root and unlock using Open1your1eyes0 thread in the dev section. I'm not well versed in the md5 mismatching for a nandroid failing unless you changed the name of the nandroid after it was completed?

Yes I just checked with rootchecker and it says I lost root. I did rename the CWM nandroid, but I've done that before on my wife's phone and it restored fine.. I'm downloading the files from the thread you listed above as I write. I had Tibu installed before, so that should be enough to restore my lost apps/pics/etc once I Odin back and gain root again?

Yea, try not to do that with CWM. I suggest using TWRP if you want to name backups since it allows you to do so natively. TWRP and CWM nandroids are not compatible so if you do switch, I suggest (if you can) restore your VRBMB1 nandroid using CWM, make a new backup using TWRP, then delete the entire CWM folder from your phone/sdcard.
I haven't done this before but you could see if this process works for you. If not, then start fresh via Odin and use TWRP so this doesn't happen again.
If you can still see the files using a file explorer, then TB should be able to locate and restore them if you know how to make it scan the entire device.

I realize that now! Going through the Odin process now, then custom recovery and unlocking the bootloader. By glancing at that link, it says that using different versions of CMW causes this issue. Go figure. Ugh
