[Q] Best way to downgrade from GB V2.0.2 to Infused V1.5.3? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I am on GTG's GB ROM V2.0.2 but want to go back to Froyo v1.5.3 as i am seeing some issues like phone freezing way too often. I had backed up V1.5.3 using ROM MANAGER. Can i just go to CWM and install v1.5.3 backup? OR do I need to go to stock ROM 1st? Any help is appreciated! Dont want to brick my infuse

For whatever reason my back ups did not work (i think it is a number of variables like pit this vs pit that and green vs red clockwork but didnt spend much time on it)
sooo.....i did the 1click back to stock.. Super 1click root basically staryed over...reinstalled recovery and then flashed my backup.
I am still playing with the whole "why cant i just restore a back up" but dont have much time this week to mess with that this week

The easiest way to backup using titanium backup, and then flash 1.5.3 using CWM and then factory reset using CWM. I have done this many times, and am willing to help you if you need.
THIS WILL DELETE YOUR DATA.

Just went back to Odin - Stock ( Root+3e), then installed V1.5.3, nothing was deleted from SD card... just the apps
Will now only upgrade to GB once ATT releases GB, had too many issues with Roger GB!

You have gone from gtgs gb build back to froyo many times?

You cannot restore a froyo backup from a gingerbread cwm recovery. You need to go to stock first using gtg's unbrick. Then I suggest after the first boot to do a factory reset from the settings within the phone not cwm. Then root and flash a froyo kernel using sgs kernel flasher from the market.
After that you can restore a backup with no problems.

That's exactly what I said above...but loglud is either misreading what the op is trying to do... or claims to be doing so from cwm...

Just realized tonight that if you use this file in this thread...you go back to ROOTED stock, with modded 3e recovery...takes a few steps out if you are just trying to get back to rooted stock

and use this file name he attached at the end of the post

-> From GTG's GB V2.0.2, went to stock ( root+3e recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
-> Then install V1.5.3 froyo in CWM. Wipe data/factory reset for safe side. Just the Apps get deleted.. Data on Internal SD is not wiped.

trying it now...I think the factory reset is the step I was missing
edit: indeed..that is the step I was missing
Thanks guys!
1. Back up current GB rom
2. Flash Froyo ROM
3. Factory Reset via CWM
4. Boot
5. Let system settle
6. Reboot into recovery
7. restore back up of said froyo rom
worked like a charm

Kaoscinate on mesmerize

I don't know if anyone has tried this but I've been running kasoinate on my mesmerize since his v0 release. If you want to try it make sure you were already on a voodoo kernal. Download kaos's kernal and Tom from the fascinate forum. Boot into cwm and wipe, than run the rom zip first than the kernal zip. Make sure you install gapps also. Reboot and you should be in froyo heaven.

This works but do it at your own risk. Im working on a mesmerize build so if you can wait a few hours I may have something up for you all that is a little safer.
Sent from my USCC SCH-I500..
Awesome I can't wait to try it. Its not that dangerous if your comfortable with cwm and you can always revert back to your mesmerize voodoo kernal and nandroid backup. And of course we have Odin. But I can't wait to try your rom..keep up the great work!!

There have been issues even with people on the fascinate getting boot-loops after messing with that ROM. It's only a soft brick, but, you must remember, there are a lot of people who would piss their pants at the sight of a frozen Samsung logo.. We don't really want to encourage flashing things labeled for another device onto a different device. If the other ROM say had a Verizon radio in it.. well, it wouldn't turn out well. In this case, that is not a problem, but that's not always the case.
If Koasinate works, what about jt's stableish froyo build he released a couple of weeks ago?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Any aosp rom for the fascinate should work, they just need to be compiled using files pulled from a mesmerize.

I have a nandroid backup but it didn't work
Boot into CWM, wipe your device, install the vodoo kernal for your mesmerize than install your nandroid back up by goint to backup and restore and hitting restore and picking the most recent nandroid backup. In my case if I wasnt able to wipe or install I would have to do a battery pull and boot into CWM once or twice. Hope that helps.

go through the whole voodoo install process again or just go into cwm and install voodoo again?

try pulling the battery and redoing the wipe again....if this is not working for you I suggest just resetting your phone back to stock with odin, the instructions are in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881064 dont freak out too much, your phone is still recoverable. just read everything in the link and you should be back to stock in a matter of 10 minutes. hope this helps

Need a little help doing a nandroid backup.

I'm currently rooted with everything else stock. I've decided I want to try the Bali Kernel, so I thought the first thing I should do before anything else is a backup. So I downloaded Rom Manager and followed the steps from here.
so when I ran Back Up Current Rom, I got the following. See screen shot. Is there something in that guide that is missing?
Also, someone in a similar thread said to choose Reinstall Packages. I tried that and got this. See screen shot.
you have to press reinstall packages then go to backup and restore and make a backup... and if you get that error you could try replacing the recovery file in system and then trying it again
First thing is to ditch rom manager. It has issues with the sgs4g and will give you a headache and little else. Second go to the development section and find krylons cwm final thread and follow it to the letter.
It looks like you don't have clockworkmod installed and you need this to do what you are trying.

Ok, so I followed the instructions. Replaced the Recovery file and put update.zip on the root of the sdcard. But I still needed Rom Manager to run the back up. Then did the reinstall packages again and this time it went in recovery to do the back up, and it worked.
If I didn't reinstall Rom Manager, how else would I have run a back up. I followed this guide that worked for the sidekick 4g.
you do not need rom manager at all.
do the update and recovery file go to recovery screen reinstall packages then you can goto backup and restore and either back up a rom or restore one

Got it thanks. I noticed the Galaxy S 4G is one of the phones in the Flash recovery list in Rom Manager. So would it be correct to say that the update to Rom Manager to support the SGS4G did not work? Hence, needing to manually install the recovery and update.zip files.

How do I get all my apps after flashing CM7

Hi,
Soooo.. I flashed CM7 for the first time ever..... woo hoo. but now all my apps, and everything from the stock are gone. Is there a way to load everything from stock onto the CM7? I tried doing a restore from NVFLASH but that just brought back the stock so how do I just keep everything the same but running the CM7.
Thanks guys

Well, if you had made a nandroid before you flashed, and could restore it (not sure when you did with NVflash), you would have everything back on your last ROM (you did not specify what ROM you were on).
You could then try just wiping dalvek and cache and formatting /system and flashing the ROM over it. That works OK most of the time. as you are clearing out the System partition but retaining your date (make sure you flash gapps also).
Another option is to wipe everything, and then flash the ROM, gapps, and then date only with advanced recovery.
Depending on what ROM you are coming from, that could carryover some issues - but most of the time it works OK.
If you did not have a backup of your data, then you will have to rebuild it from scratch in any case, so you might just as well do it on a clean install of CM7.
Well I did make a backup but when I restore its not cm 7 anymore so using nv flash how can I restore all the apps and messages, etc onto the cm7?

Have you tried titanium backup? Restore your old Rom with the apps. Back them up using TI to the external sd card. Do the usual stuff to load a new rom and restore your apps using TI. That's how I do it.
Some also like google restore, but I like having a hard copy for myself.

Restore your original stock rom with all the apps. Root using the one-click-method. Install TI. Backup your apps to the sd card. Now flash your favorite rom. Install TI on the new rom. Restore your apps from the TI backup you made on your sd card.
It should work.
Although on CM7 I had a couple of issues restoring certain apps. I think it has something to do with how CM7 names different partitions.

I might have an idea but you'll have to do the research.
Boot into CWM and connect USB to your computer. You may be able to copy your /data/app folder to your computer using ADB commands, then restore them the same way. Might work, might not. Never done it that way. And this will probably only backup the apps, not the data (savegames, etc.).
As I said earlier, you can restore data only with recovery/advanced restore.

Yes, restoring /data only from the advanced restore menu in CWM may work. But I think that will restore all system data as well which may cause FC frenzy. Definitely worth a shot!

Unable to Restore CWM backups?

I can't restore my CWM backups. I get an error saying unable to mount system.
I'm not using ROM Manager and I even tried reinstalling the same ROM that I made the backup from and then restoring the backup, but it still doesn't work. I'm using Octane 2.x with DrHonk's KJ1 Kernel and my CWM version is 3.0.2.8x
I've seen several posts on this issue, but haven't seen a clear answer. Some people say it doesn't work and others have said it does. If anyone can provide some help, I'd appreciate it. I like to try out different ROMS and with other phones such as the Vibrant (yes I know this phone is different) I have always made a backup with CWM and if I didn't like the ROM I could go right back to my previous one with very little work. I know I can use Titanium and I do that, but you can't restore everything so I end up having to redo a lot of stuff.
If anyone can provide some help with this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
From what I understand, you'll get that error when you restore a GB backup. Froyo works fine.
As a work around, you can boot into CWM, flash Dr Honks Bali kernel, then goto advanced>reboot recovery. When CWM boots again, you can restore your backup.
Another work around that I've seen mentioned is to boot into CWM, reflash the ROM of the backup you want to restore. Once the ROM flashes, goto backup/restore>advanced restore and backup the data only. That way you get the system partition from flashing the ROM, and your old data partition from your backup.
I haven't tried either of these methods. Guess I probably should have disclosed that first, but this is what I have gathered by reading some of these threads.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll try to doing an advanced restore of the data the next time since that sounds like the least painful method. If that doesn't work I'll try the bali kernel.
Please keep in mind that you CANNOT perform an advanced data restore from Froyo to GB. It will cause issues, such as incoming calls going directly to voice mail.
If you are moving from Froyo to GB, be sure to create a backup of your apps and data using Titanium Backup. Restore everything once you're on GB and it'll work fine.

[Q] Fail to update 2.3.6 after stock flash Skyrocket i727

Can any one tell me what i did wrong?
I used a I727UCALC4_OneClick package to flash my at&t i727 to android 4.0.3. For some reason my home button and search button did not work so i said to return back to stock.
I flashed the phone with SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane thru ODIN to return to stock 2.3.5 . I then tried to do a OTA update to 2.3.6. The update downloads and starts installing , reboots the phone and fails to finish.
Any help please ? Thanks
I tried doing this myself last night. Remember you will lose your root once taking it to 2.3.5, so re root using Odin, then, reboot. Then follow the root instructions as outlined by user k0nane here at xda. Then get into clockwork mod recovery mode and restore to the backup version you did of 2.3.6...much easier process than trying to flash stock. Hope that helps.

You might have renamed the backup, the backup might be corrupt, or you did the backup with a different version of cwm than you are trying to restore it with.

Its mhx superlite 3.1 but if the rom will work you can later on flash whatever you want. Atm you seem to be stuck with an unusable phone so anything is better.
Go to sammobile.com

type i727 in the box
scroll down and download the tar
extract with 7zip
Flash in odin
Then drink beer and such
i was able to flash tru cwm a att rom that worked. Everything works ok now.
