Kaoscinate on mesmerize - Samsung Mesmerize

I don't know if anyone has tried this but I've been running kasoinate on my mesmerize since his v0 release. If you want to try it make sure you were already on a voodoo kernal. Download kaos's kernal and Tom from the fascinate forum. Boot into cwm and wipe, than run the rom zip first than the kernal zip. Make sure you install gapps also. Reboot and you should be in froyo heaven.

This works but do it at your own risk. Im working on a mesmerize build so if you can wait a few hours I may have something up for you all that is a little safer.

Awesome I can't wait to try it. Its not that dangerous if your comfortable with cwm and you can always revert back to your mesmerize voodoo kernal and nandroid backup. And of course we have Odin. But I can't wait to try your rom..keep up the great work!!

Are you referring to the [ALPHA] rom located in the Fascinate forum?

There have been issues even with people on the fascinate getting boot-loops after messing with that ROM. It's only a soft brick, but, you must remember, there are a lot of people who would piss their pants at the sight of a frozen Samsung logo.. We don't really want to encourage flashing things labeled for another device onto a different device. If the other ROM say had a Verizon radio in it.. well, it wouldn't turn out well. In this case, that is not a problem, but that's not always the case.

If Koasinate works, what about jt's stableish froyo build he released a couple of weeks ago?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

Any aosp rom for the fascinate should work, they just need to be compiled using files pulled from a mesmerize.

Lol I don't think you'll find Tom, he's extremely elusive!

now how do I go back lol?
I have a nandroid backup but it didn't work

Boot into CWM, wipe your device, install the vodoo kernal for your mesmerize than install your nandroid back up by goint to backup and restore and hitting restore and picking the most recent nandroid backup. In my case if I wasnt able to wipe or install I would have to do a battery pull and boot into CWM once or twice. Hope that helps.

go through the whole voodoo install process again or just go into cwm and install voodoo again?

go into cwm and install vodoo again than do a nandroid restore, if you try to stay on kasocinates kernal youll get an md5 mismatch when trying to do a nandroid restore

it just freezes at samsung now

after you do the vodoo kernal install the nandroid backup in cwm, this should go through the whole process of restoring your nandroid backup and than reboot through CWM and it should get you past the samsung screen.

i have to pull the battery again to get back into recovery. is that right? thanks for your help im freakin

says mismatch
also it says cant mount no such file or directory, when I try to wipe

try pulling the battery and redoing the wipe again....if this is not working for you I suggest just resetting your phone back to stock with odin, the instructions are in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881064 dont freak out too much, your phone is still recoverable. just read everything in the link and you should be back to stock in a matter of 10 minutes. hope this helps

[Q] New CWM allows backup and restore??

Hey guys,
I think the new CWM allows backup and restore? I used it to backup my current rom, but can anyone verify whether there are still issues when attempting to restore backups? Last thing I need is to brick my charge.
Thanks guys!
Is working

I could not get restore to work but it didn't brick my phone either. From what I've heard some people have had it work tho.
Is this the CWM from the Android Market? And, if so - Am I supposed to let CWM rewrite the Recovery Mode like I did on my Moto Droid?
Sooo hoping backup and restore is working, I know he didn't test it completely but that certainly doesn't mean it wont work :] Post in this thread if it worked for you!
I just installed cwm and did a backup before rooted. And was having issues tethering and wanted.to revert back. I went into cwm and attempted a restore. And it failed saying could not unmount /system. Then it froze. Next time i booted to cwm it booted in a basic mode with only options to reboot or apply update.zip
This is my first experience modding a Samsung phone i just upgraded from my droid 1. phone is working and plan to do more this weekend when i have more time to explore.

Bummer!
Is there any other method out there that can do a full backup / restore for a rooted Charge yet?
Try OdinMaker by P3Droid. It is 2 bucks on the market. I believe it works fine.
I cant get OdinMaker to reliably finish.
I saw somewhere on here that CWR backup works but to restore you have to reflash (Odin) your rom, kernal and recovery. Then in CWR you do an advanced restore and do /data only. I have not confirmed this works.

Try 0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5
The imnuts cwm 0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5 works very well. IT is is stable the only issue is lagfix ext4 does not work. However this may not be a cwm issue but rather a kernel issue. Dan

[Q] Best way to downgrade from GB V2.0.2 to Infused V1.5.3?

I am on GTG's GB ROM V2.0.2 but want to go back to Froyo v1.5.3 as i am seeing some issues like phone freezing way too often. I had backed up V1.5.3 using ROM MANAGER. Can i just go to CWM and install v1.5.3 backup? OR do I need to go to stock ROM 1st? Any help is appreciated! Dont want to brick my infuse
For whatever reason my back ups did not work (i think it is a number of variables like pit this vs pit that and green vs red clockwork but didnt spend much time on it)
sooo.....i did the 1click back to stock.. Super 1click root basically staryed over...reinstalled recovery and then flashed my backup.
I am still playing with the whole "why cant i just restore a back up" but dont have much time this week to mess with that this week

The easiest way to backup using titanium backup, and then flash 1.5.3 using CWM and then factory reset using CWM. I have done this many times, and am willing to help you if you need.

Just went back to Odin - Stock ( Root+3e), then installed V1.5.3, nothing was deleted from SD card... just the apps
Will now only upgrade to GB once ATT releases GB, had too many issues with Roger GB!

You cannot restore a froyo backup from a gingerbread cwm recovery. You need to go to stock first using gtg's unbrick. Then I suggest after the first boot to do a factory reset from the settings within the phone not cwm. Then root and flash a froyo kernel using sgs kernel flasher from the market.
After that you can restore a backup with no problems.

1. Back up current GB rom

5. Let system settle
6. Reboot into recovery

Unable to Restore CWM backups?

I can't restore my CWM backups. I get an error saying unable to mount system.
I'm not using ROM Manager and I even tried reinstalling the same ROM that I made the backup from and then restoring the backup, but it still doesn't work. I'm using Octane 2.x with DrHonk's KJ1 Kernel and my CWM version is 3.0.2.8x
I've seen several posts on this issue, but haven't seen a clear answer. Some people say it doesn't work and others have said it does. If anyone can provide some help, I'd appreciate it. I like to try out different ROMS and with other phones such as the Vibrant (yes I know this phone is different) I have always made a backup with CWM and if I didn't like the ROM I could go right back to my previous one with very little work. I know I can use Titanium and I do that, but you can't restore everything so I end up having to redo a lot of stuff.
If anyone can provide some help with this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
From what I understand, you'll get that error when you restore a GB backup. Froyo works fine.
As a work around, you can boot into CWM, flash Dr Honks Bali kernel, then goto advanced>reboot recovery. When CWM boots again, you can restore your backup.
Another work around that I've seen mentioned is to boot into CWM, reflash the ROM of the backup you want to restore. Once the ROM flashes, goto backup/restore>advanced restore and backup the data only. That way you get the system partition from flashing the ROM, and your old data partition from your backup.
I haven't tried either of these methods. Guess I probably should have disclosed that first, but this is what I have gathered by reading some of these threads.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll try to doing an advanced restore of the data the next time since that sounds like the least painful method. If that doesn't work I'll try the bali kernel.
Please keep in mind that you CANNOT perform an advanced data restore from Froyo to GB. It will cause issues, such as incoming calls going directly to voice mail.
If you are moving from Froyo to GB, be sure to create a backup of your apps and data using Titanium Backup. Restore everything once you're on GB and it'll work fine.

I followed the first suggestion, flashing Dr Honks Bali 3.3 Kernel and it worked great. Just make sure you re-flash your old kernel before you reboot and you'll be fine. Thanks for this.

restore failed?

I did a nand backup before flashing official KJ6. I was on kj aosp.
Backup proccess went fine, then I tried official kj6 but didn't see much improvement so I flashed drhonk kj1 kernel for recovery, and tried to go back using my backup.
however, I got an error message:
restoring system...
Code:
E:format_volume failed to unmount "/system"
Error while formatting /system!
any ideas?
GB seems to have an issue with unmounting the system. I have never been able to do a complete restore from a nandroid backup while running GB.
However, you can do an advanced restore, and then restore your data only - that seems to work fine. So you flash the GB rom of your choice (be sure to have a modded kernel with cwm), then advance restore your data in cwm, and you should be good to go.
Its possible, just a few extra steps.
First you need to flash Bali kernel.
Second, reboot recovery
Next, restore your nandroid.
Finally, flash back
kj1 voodoo/cwm kernel

Well, this morning after writing this post I figured I could just reflash the ROM i had and then just restore /data. I did that, however for some reason I'm missing now the TwLauncher, only GB launcher is present. It's not big deal, I kinda like it. I think it's because I flashed the official KJ6 AOSP style rom (from airfluip) instead of the one I had, which was leak kj6 aosp style, so maybe the official one doesn't include TWL, who knows. Anyway, all my apps and data is there, so it's all good now.
Thanks to both of you! **clicks thanks button**

It appears that some are confused, and not understanding what I was saying...
Since you are using lfaber06's ROM, I would not recommend that you try and restore that one with a backup right after doing an fxz restore, with some of the things that his ROM does, the safest bet is to reflash, rather than restore the ROM itself, then once you are at the right version of his ROM, restore your backup over top of that instead.

Agreed, It would be in your best interest to flash the rom before restoring the backup. It can cause oddities the reason is that there are a few partitions that our CWM does not backup or restore (Like /Preinstall and /Osh) this in turn leads to init.d scripts not running properly. (The supercharged part of the rom) I usually just install the stock deodexed rom then perform my restore.
I shall keep that in mind.
