It seems that Asus has awared the cracking sound problem - Asus Transformer TF700

I bought a Tf700 2 weeks ago. Because of the serious cracking sound and light leaking , I exchanged for another one.
The second even had a damaged screen (both right and left sides have cracking sound problem),which has a white line on the middle. Returned.
I bought my third device 3 days ago, and everything is perfect! no cracking sound, no bad screen!
I have assumed asus had awared the quality.....

glad third time was the charm for you!

So, who has -not- had problems with their Transformer?

I bought a Transformer yesterday, and I have some pretty severe backlight bleed. I'm either going to exchange or return it tonight.
I understand that people with problems with their device will be much more vocal than people who haven't run into any issues, but the number of posts I've seen talking about display or speaker issues is kind of worrying me, especially when I can go to the Thrive forum and see zero or near zero topics about hardware issues. Does anyone here have a Transformer with no problems? Or do they all have some issue and should I look at a different tablet?

No issues whatsoever with mine, although I haven't actually went looking for light bleed. Certainly, I've not noticed it in normal use, which is the only place it would bother me.

I have small light-bleed but it's only visible on a completely black screen with the brightness turned right up and the lights in the room switched off. That's not my normal use case so it doesn't bother me.
I have my Transformer since 2 months now. The hardware is perfect, there is no Lightbleed, no cracking, no dust under the screen and the speakers are o.k. One little problem is Honeycomb, it is not so good as it could be but its getting better with every update. Rooting was no problem and there are no issues when flashing other roms. Last week i bought the dock and there is also nothing wrong with it.
I am very happy with my new Transformer and dont whant to be without it anymore.

i Have light bleed over the charging port..but that's insignificant ..but my volume rocker JUST got stuck like 20 min ago..already put my RMA with asus..out side of that..it's no issues
Haven't got any problems, though i haven't taken my transformer into a darkroom with a dark jpeg and turned the brightness up to test it!!!!!
A big believer in realism!
My wifi works perfectly
ADW EX works perfectly
Opera Browser works perfectly
But i also don't believe in new automatically equals better, so i haven't installed 3.2.
Wouldn't no about browser typing lag, as i'm the slowest freakin typist ever
I've had no issues with my tablet.
I have just RMAd the dock, as it was a B50 and had the power drain issue, but the tablet on it's own has been great.
very minimal light bleed, but nothing major.
Out of curiosity, hows the ROM dev over with the Thrive? Im wondering if there is more development over there than there is with the TF..
And if so, if having several Roms/mods to play with, keep user more content; So much so, that they overlook minor details..
Maybe were just bored over here in TF world
I have a b60 transformer and keyboard dock and I am very happy with all. I had a small spec of plastic in the screen, flicked screen with my finger and now it has gone and never returned.
Not seen any light bleed and have no problems with build quality.
I only had the creak before, until I learned to look for the light bleed in the dark. It's not that bad, but it feels horrible when you look for it,
Certainly not me ;-) After 5 weeks trying to find a tablet and dock to actually purchase, I bought the only one I could find - a 32 GB version. Why the heck I didn't just give up and wait for the next generation, I'll never know.
Significant light bleed but that doesn't really bother me. But then I discovered the dock battery draining issue with my turned off tablet and that really started to bother me. Then the volume up key on the tablet stopped working and that kind of annoyed me. Then the charger stopped charging both the dock and the tablet and that was end of my using it altogether ... except that somehow the charger started working again on the tablet (and not the dock) so I could use it again. But now it's stopped charging the tablet once again.
I know I have to RMA this ****. Still have to find the receipts and packaging. Maybe I can ship it along with my Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard which never worked right from day 1 and has caused me endless grief. Yeah, Asus is pretty much my least favourite company right now...
I love my transformer.
There was some light bleeding at the bottom by the buttons but for some reason the other day it vanished. I have installed the Asus case that has the tapered edge and flap. Maybe the pressure is fixing it.
That with Prime 1.6, the thing is a beast. I'm out of town for work over the next 2 weeks. No reboots or weirdness. I have my PC laptop and my LG G2x setup with wifi sharing so my TF is grabbing internet from one of those devices.
It just works so good I'm afraid to flash it to a 3.2 rom.
I found thumb keyboard better over SwiftKey X and I'm flying. The Office suite allows me to check all my work related documents on the go and has been a lifesaver.

Minor issues...
I have a little bit of light bleed, but it's only noticeable on black backgrounds, with dim ambient light, at certain angles. The speakers aren't as loud as I'd like, but I don't see how speakers that small could be louder. Overall I'm very pleased with mine, especially considering it's what, half as thick as the Thrive?
Not half as thick, but it does feel a lot thinner. It's because Asus designed the tablet to slant from thick (in the center) to thin (in the edge). It's so pretty .
I have problems with the tf, and not only with one unit, because now I am using the third unit (replaced the two previous).
The first was countinually rebooting when suspended (may be software, but used a nandroid of it with the second and no problem)
The second has light bleed and the upper part of the touch screen was bad.
With the third unit has sound balance problem, but I can live with it.
Conclusion
The quality control is bad, but I like this tablet.
Sorry for my english
No issues, I haven't really looked to see if I could find light bleed, but I love this thing
on my second tf
my first one quit charging after 4 days. No keyboard dock.
The one I have now has more light bleed than my first one. That one was a B60, current one is a B50.
No issues to report, although I have not checked on the battery drain issue with the dock (B5O). Still I really like this tablet and use it for work.
No problem here. Running Prime 1.7
Just checked for light leak. took a picture in a black room with brightness all the way up and on the left lower side i noticed it.
been mashing the power and volume buttons all day to see if i can break it(still within 30 days). No issues yet.

Build quality question

Just a quick question for other TF700 owners. I originally bought a Prime and had the bad wifi issues, exchanged it for another with no improvement so I held out for the Infinity. I now have my Infinity and the screen is loose on the right hand side about 2/3 of the way down. If you press it you can feel the give and hear a popping sound. I'm just curious if this is an isolated incident or if a loose screen an issue with the Infinity. I love the tablet and honestly have no clue what I would get instead but, for $500 I expect better build quality.

I have this issue too. Both the right hand side and left hand side, and a few additional places (7 areas in total). When I closed pad on the dock station a crack formed between one of these two weak areas where screen is loose, and all points to glass cracking exactly because the strains were not supported by chassis. And I closed it the same way I closed it a few other times before (only owned it for about a month).
If you need more description in pictures, there's a thread about defects (it lists clicking/loose screen as one of defects by the way) in this same forum.
I hope that my crack is just an isolated case. This is only my personal opinion based on experience I had, but I would keep bothering the wherever you got your tablet until they give you one without loose screen.

Mines clicking in the exact same spot you described. Doesn't seem to be getting worse, and if it doesn't I don't think it will bother me that much. But still, for the money we're paying its inexcusable.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch.
Same clicking above the microSD slot and on the opposite side -> same location. But it does not really bother me.
Mine clicks a little right above the dock port on the bottom.
I'm not considering it a problem at this point.

In the Nexus 7 forum there were a number of complaints about the screen lifting, and most were found to be caused by screws that were over tightened below the areas of lift. The Nexus 7 back is easy to remove, and I wouldn't suggest doing this with the TF700, but they are both recent ASUS devices and there seems to be a possibility they could suffer from the same issue. By the way. it turns out that only a small % of Nexus 7 owners experienced screen lift, but some had multiple devices with this issue. Mine is flawless, as are the vast majority. I think that must be true for the TF700 as well. Mine is perfect, too.
Just checked. Mine has a VERY slight, not quite popping, but like a small"tic" when pressed by SD slot. Had to listen really close to hear it. My prime was nothing but problems, Wi-Fi weak, GPS totally worthless, and camera was unacceptably bad, grainy quality pics.
My Infinity is everything prime was not. Extremely pleased with it. Only problem I've noticed is I/O lag. And hopefully, that will be fixed with jelly bean.
One other thing, mine WOULD NOT OTA update. Had to d load to micro card.
Other than that, I LOVE MY INFINITY!
I don't see any issues with the building quality. I have not struggled to find flaws . my only complaint is lag and performance. Hopefully these are fixable sw issues that the jb update will fix or someone will create a good ROM to unleash this tablet.

Build quality for mine is terrific. No complaints at all at this point.
Sitting in the airport lounge right now where my TF201 didn't get a WiFi signal. TF700 has -50dB at 54Mbps.
Build quality and performance are exactly what I would expect for a premium priced tablet.

My first one was perfect physically, but I had to return it. My second one has the popping on the left and there's noticeable give on the bottom, right above the left keyboard dock slot (that is, you can push the screen into the casing). I'm guessing its not a big deal since there are others who have reported similar things.
I have the popping sound when applying pressure to the display on the right side, kind of where the speaker sits. I used to have a slight bulge / screen seperation above the microSD slot, but that completely went away after I left my Infinity lieing in the sun for a few hours (not on purpose, I just forgot about it and that thing got HOT).
I hope this is an isolated case (though my "popping" wasn't so severe, I didn't pay attention to it either!), but just so you know, this is what happened when I normally (no extra force) closed it with my dock station.
I initially ignored the problem too. So be careful when handling it around dock station (if I'm right, it's only bending which is created by dock station that can do this, simply holding it in hand or closing dock station by holding it in middle will not cause any cracks or damage).

How many times have you exchanged your Infinity?

Topic.
1: Volume rocker did not work properly.
2: Many scratches on the backplate.
3: loose screen causing clicking noise.
Twice.
#1 - Wifi died after a week.
#2 - Screen was completely detached on one side out of the box.
Almost returned my third since it looked like the spring was missing from my SD card slot (that is, the card went in with no resistance and wouldn't push in to pop out)... but on a whim I decided to try it again right before I finished boxing it back up and it started working.
Its a great tablet, but Asus really needs to improve their quality control.
ZROW
Returned mine no times...
Thought about it-didn't do it.
0 cakes out of infinity
did not return my tablet, was flawless unit
Did the Infinity even come with plastic covers for the keyboard dock connections and the charging port like the TF201 model? The Infinity I saw, brand new right out of the box there were no plastic protective covers at all.

All three of mine had the cover on the dock connector itself, but not the two slots where it connected to the dock.
Edit: Sigh... Now I"m considering returning mine for the third time. When I got it, I noticed the screen could be pushed in a little along the bottom, like it wasnt completely attached but I figured it'd be ok since it was just one spot. Now its doing it along the top. My local best buy has them in-store now so I could exchange it no problems, but I've been holding off during my return period before unlocking and I dont want to push that back again...
I heard you can get banned for 90 days from Best Buy if you return too much... They scan your driver's license to keep a log of your returns. Not sure if it applies to defective tablets but they will probably assume that you're doing the damage one day. Anyways, time to exchange it.
Zero. Slight clicking sound. GPS is a bit slow. Nothing else.
4: Loose screen, clicking noise
5: Loose screen, clicking noise
6: Loose screen, clicking noise
7: 5 pieces of dust under screen.
This is outrageous.
Vibrating Motor didn't work at all.
This one is perfect. Everything works great. No creeking of the screen, no light bleed no problems what so ever. For now.
4 times....... 1- had dust under screen, 2- dead pixels, 3-dust under screen 4-dead pixels again, and the one I currently have seems like a keeper, I am used to it already as I had to do the same for the Prime and tf300 at least twice, but once I got a good one it held up good, Im very satisfied with the one I currently have. the infinity is clearly a beast!
8: dusts under screen
Finally got a good one on my ninth... everything is good except for the minor lightbleed but IDC I have found THE ONE!

I live between two BB stores that are under 3 miles away.
I work in the city where two BB stores are less than 1 mile away so I can walk.
I also open the box in the store after exchanging and check for problems. If I do, I exchange it again. Started this after my fourth exchange cause I was getting annoyed driving back and forth.
wow. I feel lucky. I got mine first week available in North America and have NO issues. no dust, no light bleed. Been working great. No complaints, except with Chome being a big laggy.
Zero.
Original TF101 - 7 TIMES. Yup..dead pixels, blemishes on screen, dead WIFI, crappy QA until I got a good one.
TF201 - Twice. Dead pixels, dead GPS. End of romance.
TF700 - Returned once. Original one had cosmetic imperfections (large dark stain/spot on the side), loose screen and clicking on left side of screen. Picked up another one, PERFECTION. No dead pixels, no clicking, no cosmetic damage.
Zero. No problems in 3 weeks.

Really This is shocking to hear. I bought mine online from america, because I couldnt buy the cheaper speced version here. But mine is perfect thank god. I do actually have a very slight clicky sound in one of the corners. But I'll live with that. I don't really know what I could do if this craps out on me.
Asus really need to work on their QC...
No returns on my infinity yet, I have had mine for almost 30 days (have 60days for BB returns). Have a 2yr ADH from square trade just incase. Looks like this infinity is a keeper.
My primes on the other hand was just a QC problems after QC problems... very dissapointed with the prime.

Broken xoom

Hi Guys,
First post so go easy. Lurked the boards for a while now but only just registered. Hoping some one can help me out a little here, as I'm at my witts end now.
So I bought my xoom (MZ604..?) back in february second hand for £125 posted, it's a the 10.1" version and it's running android ICS. I bought it as i love my Samsung galaxy tab 7 but i think it lacks the screen size and the xoom seemed like a great price for a larger equivalent. I used it pretty much every day and it was awesome, never had any problems with it until...
My son decided to kick it off my lap onto the granite fireplace. The screen instantly went black and just didn't do anything. I could see a faint bbacklight on inside so I assumed it was the LCD panel that was broke, i could still here notifications and if i swiped in the right place i could also hear the tablet unlocking so the digitizer was ok too. I bought a water damaged xoom off ebay and harvested the screen to try and replace it and that wen ok, except i still had the same problem so I assumed that screen was broken too, oh well spares and repairs doesn't always work out lol...
So I bought a brand new LCD panel and fitted that yesterday, and it STILL won't work. However, the issue i now have is it won't turn on at all. I've taken it apart and put it back together multiple times to make sure it's all gone back in the right place etc. It's also charging ok, i put it on the dock and the light goes white, and then green after a while.
I'm at a loss here, as the new screen and xoom cost me nearly £100 so it's not really worth me paying any more as it's begining to seem like an endless pit of money.
TLDR:
Bought xoom
Son dropped xoom
Screen went black but tablet still worked
Bought 3nd hand xoom and swapped lcds
No joy with that
Bought brand new screen
charges but won't turn on now
Hoping someone on here can help me, i really don't want to throw it away as it's a fantastic device, but at the same time i can't keep plowing money into it if it won't work.
Thanks guys,
Uv.

Bottom speaker defect

Yeah well, was very happy with the device until today.
Bottom speaker produces horrible crackling sound when playing any sound. It's just defect from now to then.
Thanks to Amazon i can now send it for repair and am already sure that there will be anything like scratches, bad gaps or whatever...
Not even speaking of IP rating.
Did anyone else have a defect speaker? Because after that short time and rarely using it this is rather strange.
Actually i'm pretty pissed about Sonys quality. Always thought it was good, but some days ago my wife's X compact got a defect on screen and now this. Used htc since the original Desire and never had anything. Seems switching manufacturer is a bad idea
ALL manufacturers have defects. Getting my XZ2C next week, but issues like this are standard for any manufacturer and shouldn't put you off any brand. Either get your phone repaired, or deal with the crackling.
My HTC M7 failed once. My HTC M9 failed twice. My HTC 10 has also failed twice and on the second repair they scratched the backlight on the Recents button. Their quality control is the same. Such is life. Getting worked up about it won't solve anything.

Yes I also have a defect bottom speaker. Severe crackling above about 75% volume in the mid-ranges frequency-wise. I've owned it maybe three or four weeks? I'm thinking I may have to return the phone. I think you're perfectly justified in being pissed - I'm a bit pissed too - this is a $600 phone and getting speaker crackling this early in is pretty ridiculous. Maybe it's just a particle of dust/debris that's made it into the speaker but nevertheless there seems to be an issue with this phone's design and/or manufacturing as I've seen a couple other posts about this problem on Sony's site.
My Axon 7 had this issue as well but the speaker grill could be pretty easily cleaned with a sim ejector and that always resolved it. But the XZ2c seems to have a bit more of a tight area around the speaker which might be nearly impossible to clean without removing the screen assembly.

You can watch the xz2c teardown video on yt where you can see the internals. You can also see why they have to disassemble half of the phone for repair. There is a channel leading from the "gap" outside to the speaker inside. Regarding it is ip68 no piece of dust should make its way inside the speaker itself.
Apart from that i know how a broken speaker sounds and this one is broken. So either it is just a piece of s*** or they are powering it wrong. Can't remember ever having used it at 100% and even if it should be able to deal with it.
I bought a LG G6 as temporary replacement because it is ridicously cheap (paid 315€) and will send in my XZ2c tomorrow.
And while it is bigger and SD821 is noticeable after 835/845 you know what? It is also a good device...
Haven't decided yet if i'll keep the Sony after repair. Well first it has to be repaired (without damage).
