It was coming. They've failed miserably in the region.
Since quite some time in India, their phones have not been available for sale in brick and mortar stores. For some reason they've been a flop here.
It's a shame really. Their hardware is second to none. With proper software, including update policies, and good marketing, they could have eaten competition for breakfast.

WTF!!

Has anybody opened Motorola India's 'fan' page on FB, I did and it was more of 'toofan' page than anything else, LOL!
and interesting enough i have posted this on their wall:
"Having seen the comments here on FB, I would suggest you either to 1. Change the service provider or 2. Close down your FB fan page."
and they have gone a step further, I guess, closing the entire operations.
One good thing is that reportedly "they will be providing service to the existing customers" and that doesnt matter as redington will still be in charge of that care!
Looking back, my first mobile ever was a Motorola, a C350 in 2003 when mobile phones with color screen were still considered premium in india, instead of many available brands and models I went ahead and bought a moto, result? Terribly disappointed.
And after almost a decade, I did the same mistake again, call me stupid!
Are their products bad in India? No, I have spoken with many people regarding Motorola and sum up the conversations with this quote from a store sales guy:
"Motorola mobiles are great, until you find a problem in it."
When asked to elaborate he said, the after sales is terrible, and here in India when you find a problem with your mobile, they rush the store where they bought it, the store directs them to the service center. But with the service so good, the stores started to ignore Moto products, and here is the end result.
I have said these things from a perceptive of a common user not from our point of view, the tech buffs who need their mobile to be running on latest OS or wanted the bootloader to be unlocked, If I start there, there will be more bashing.
PS: On their FB page, they have posted some 'exciting' news, that they were going to release Electrify 2 in India! So any taker out there?

Electrify 2 has same hardware as Atrix 2 !! except display (which is not so good in A2 because of yellowish tint)

Yeah, the display is an issue, mine has a dull spot in the middle of the display and only visible when there is a grey background, came to know that this is evident in AT&T's A2 more, and heard those guys saying they get it replaced when they see a dull spot, we? we don't, specially now that they stopped producing A2s and even if they replace they will give us a refurbished one rather than new, why take risk, I can live with that dull spot, in fact I have many in my life itself,
and coming to the hardware, I have already said this and probably say 1000 times that I am really happy with the hardware and the general processing power of this mobile, and I have already quoted that I hate SGS II for two reasong 1. Touchwiz and 2. Poor build quality, yeah we can simply get rid of the touchwiz interface with custom launchers but the build quality?? we cant do, other than may be putting it into an otterbox.
I will consider all good, if moto does unlock the bootloader, it will open up the world of opportunities, JB, Keylime prime or whatever we want (speculation!!). Or simply a good bye gift ICS!!
Electify 2?? it is a child of Droid Razr and Atrix 2, it will be interesting to see how they promote it, as a world phone or as a TATA INDICOM CDMA or Reliance CDMA only mobile.

UPDATE: Motorola Mobility has reached out to us with an official statement.
Although we are consolidating about a third of our facilities globally, and slimming our operation in India as you reported, we continue to have a significant presence in several key markets in Asia-Pacific in addition to Korea and Australia. This includes, among others, mainland China, which remains one of our main R&D hubs (and where I am based). We should be able to share more information once we’re further through the reorganization process, but Asia-Pacific is an important part of Motorola Mobility’s future.

Who thinks xda should join the blackout?

many popular Web sites across the net are shutting down for 1 day on January 18th in protest of the 2 bills the united states government is trying to force through Congress. These bills would give the united states government the power to shut down entire Web sites, much like China does. This could even affect xda. Think of the government shutting xda down because some newb posts a file he shouldnt, or because a leak for a device specific os post is seen as infringement.

All seriousness tho... This is an informative link to some folks involved in the anti-sopa movement.
At least in America I think we've become way too complacent. It's frightening what they could do with the bill that passed, but got floored, if just *one* man changed his mind.
Not long until it hits England I reckon. Can't believe we are extraditing a 23 year old to America over piracy... sad times.
Waste of time imho. People who are against SOPA should be out there educating people. The more people understand the more influence we have. If there is a blackout for a day a lot of people will overlook it.
hi, I ve read the announce from different site... however i still wondering how xda users from outside USA can do to support the mouvement... we are a lot!

the idea is pretty scary...it's especially disappointing seeing as we're talking about the US in this case censoring the web, while they criticise China for doing exactly that. So much for "freedom of speech"...
sort of sounds like this to me: "We gave you freedom of speech, so let us tell you how to use it."
Ay!
I believe everyone should join the black out including individuals who make it a point not to access a computer or smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy R is discontinued, so says Samsung outlets

I contacted Samsung's flagship outlet in India. They said that this product is not being manufactured anymore.
I guess Samsung stopped manufacturing this product. Could be the reason for price drop.
Even with enormous demand for this phone, I don't think they will restart manufacturing because they will be releasing Galaxy S III very soon and will start working on a cheaper variant of Galaxy S III
Maybe calling it a Galaxy R II or Galaxy S III SC-LCD.
That's a really heartbreaking news for me. I really expected this product to be available abundantly and many of the Devs to buy it.
That could've taken our device above the Optimus 2X in every aspect.
Anyway, I would say that this a one sweet sexy baby that we all got.
Hey, but there are some weird thoughts that is crossing my mind. Have you people checked Samsung India's Galaxy R page?
When we click on the link to buy it, it takes us to Letsbuy's website.
That's just a normal online shopping website.
Is there any chance that there is some exclusive deal between Samsung India and Letsbuy that Samsung are providing the stocks exclusively to Letsbuy?
If you check, Letsbuy is the only website that has Galaxy R in stock right now. That too at a price of 21k INR (420 US$)
Could the members from other countries comment about the availability in their respective countries?
Dude if you wanna buy this Phone try on ebay...its available.....also check in your near local stores....dont go to samsung outlets...
i got mine for 20500rs...a week ago frm a dealer....
That's a pretty decent deal that you got. The lowest at eBay India is at 23.5k INR
Out of stock on FlipKart,i think its the cheapest you can buy online for 21k
I bought this phone last Sunday for 21K and that guy sold 3 phones in front of me in few minutes.
It was the cheapest deal i found. This phone is really awesome
We have it in Russia about from $530 to $620 USD in internet stores and regular shops
But we are paying about $170 USD for russian goverment test mark inside
Its still easily available.. atleast on ebay
its been thr on "Deals of the week" from past few weeks...
It is available on eBay, a place where you are supposed to get at good prices. But it's at 23-24k minimum. There's a shortage for the device that's sure. I only have a doubt regarding the production status. Because Samsung stores and many of the dealers said so. I really hope that the device comes back to all the dealers and it is available adequately. More the people who own it ≈ More members in our community ≈ More developer support of it.

I guess the Dev's are gonna need all the help they can get from those owning the device. Chances of getting ROM's other than Infected are looking slim.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using XDA App
An AOSP port is in the works. If you ask me, if the ROMs are good, all that we require is 3 good ROMs for any device. One based on stock like Infected ROM, one CM and MIUI.
Actually, if the ROM is really good, having only 3 is the best. You wont be confused about which to choose. All the members of the community will provide more concentrated support. Having lots of ROMs could make you want to flash each and every ROM and updates to finalise which you like the most. It could take a toll on your social life. (www.xda-developers.com/announcements/do-you-have-obsessive-rom-updating-disorder-ord/)
The AOSP ROM might take a while to reach usable stage. I think that we wont be able to use conventional methods to port AOSP to Tegra devices. Once nVidia releases the ICS sources and the official ICS rolls out, we can expect a surge in the development.
Spain still sells R via the only carrier that has it. No prob at all.to buy it from carrier here, no probs of stock either

From little bit what I know of Marketing, it may be the case that Samsung Galaxy R is actually cannibalizing the sales of Galaxy S/Plus in India which still sell a lot, considering novice users dont know theadvantages between single/dual core processors. Samsung may want to push the sales of galaxy S/ S plus until stocks are out and then restart stocking Galaxy R. OR they may actually cease from selling Galaxy R in the Indian Market. The situation on Dev support would become apparent once its known whether other markets are going to discontinue Galaxy R also.
(Btw: Sammy, if you really did this then God bless Apple f**k you. If not, then let the hunter become the victim.)
Try Sulekha.com. I got it for less than 19k from there! It still sells around that price if you keep tracking (cycles price almost every day)

Really good post, It's not only marketing here though, I would even mention some microeconomics as well
i have read that many galaxy r owners are facing random shut down problems which might be due to hardware issues and also samsung may not wamt to keep this phone running in market for so long, that it would affect sales of other models like s2 and s plus

So I went to a few stores today that sells att phones. I asked everyone in all 5 of the stores about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, noone even knew about it as if it will be coming out 6 years from now -.- noone knew there was one even coming out let alone the name :/ it kind of makes me sad when the consumer knows more then the sales reps. They should train more in my opinion this was just my little experiance for the day just thought I'd share. Anyone else looking forward to the note lte for att?

Nobody in a provider store is going to have even a small clue about phones they don't already stock, this should not be a shock. And if you're on xda you're a bit above the typical consumer...
There is basically no benefit in knowing about a phone you don't stock yet from a sales perspective. You can't sell what you don't have.

In-store reps definitely don't know anything. Most reps aren't like us and simply don't care. I usually come across some reps who give out good information about upcoming devices. These reps are always over the phone as they have quick access to the database. Try calling about a general question, talk to them for a bit, and when you're about to end the conversation, pop the question.

Ive sold phones for five years in three locations. I can tell you most of us know about phones as soon as they are rumors. As someone said earlier if we don't sell it we really don't care. To be honest if someone asked me about the note I would kinda just try to end it fast unless we were doing pre orders as asking me about a phone I cant sell isn't making me commission. If it is slow though I will talk about announced upcoming phones for quite awhile. Also most consumers walk in and say i want android or iphone not asking specifics

That's understandable. Wouldn't it be better to actually care and inform a consumer of an upcoming device? By informing them of said device, they might wait for it and pay the $200 with the contract. I understand you want to make some money as well but I guess from a personal standpoint I would help the person that cares as much as I do.

If they are techie I will chat with them build rapport and leave them with a business card and an appointment only if the release isn't months away. The average consumer wants what their friend has and even if a better phone comes out tomorrow won't wait.

I even tried bestbuy lol and the guys words were "our phone tech isn't here today he will be here tomorrow from 12-6" I live 40 mins away from anything so its not in my best choice to go back but anywho I go to the same att retailer when I buy my phones. They know me there and come at me quick because I don't just come in to buy a cheap pantech crossover I'm there with cash in hand and buy phones straight up xD so they are always willing to help. When I went in to buy my Sony xperia play 4g I handed her my iPhone to Bluetooth my contacts, she looked at my iPhone and her exact words were "what the F is this" it was running wp7 xD Haha but in all seriousness I think someone should be hired in the certain area. It'd be like hiring me to sell cars or ovens when I know nothing about them, I feel like they just hire anyone :/ I went to buy a computer once and the worker argued for 30 minutes that 512mb was a gigabyte :/ I shook my head and took my business elsewhere I just don't understand... sometimes I wish everyone cared about a phone as much as we do... instead of "as long as I can listen to music watch YouTube and look at porn, I don't care what it looks like or what it does" :'( I honestly just want to teach everyone for free so I don't feel so smart and dumb at the same time. anyone else feel that way?

I agree. I've perused tablets in Best Buy and after engaging the nearest 'team member' for less than 3 minutes, I realize that I know more than they do.
It's the same experience when going to the auto parts store. There are some people who can carry on informed conversation, but 90% are the type who watch fast & furious movies in awe, and know nothing about repair or maintenance or they can only look up part numbers.
Basically, lower your expectations.
This is why I get mad when I've tried many times to get a job in those kind of places to no avail because I don't seem to have any big time qualifications to my record yet if I go into any outlet store and begin talking about phones, the sales rep looks at me like I'm making up things or shocked I know anything.

I have had similar experience with applying for jobs at auto parts stores. The 'now hiring' sign is displayed for several months and the staff changes about every 3 weeks, but I never get called. For a while there was an older woman who not only knew nothing about cars but she also needed help to use the computer program to look up parts.
I finally realized that these people will work for less money than I will because I actually know what I am doing. It really is sad that people with any level of technical or mechanical ability don't actually work at the retail level because they can't get enough money.
And don't get me started on the people who work at Home Depot . .
I have no past work experiance. I'm 19 years old have been the "bad" kid because I used to be a "black magic" hacker I've gotten introuble from schools best buys and targets because of it but now I'm past all that I do phones tablets anything mobile. There is never a time when I'm in best buy that I'm back in the computer/phone area and usually an older citizen is talking to a sales Rep about which one is better and the sales Rep says well product A is $1299 with 4gb ram touchscreen is way better then product B $899 8gb ram and so on but they go by the price as the sales Rep was walking her to the register I kindly walked up and said "hello ma'am I noticed you were interested in two different so-so" the sales Rep called the manager and had me kicked out for costing him the sale xD but they wont hire me? I have long hair and look like a "druggie" I don't do drugs don't have tattoos or metal on my body but yet they hire people who are clueless

I don't mean to overstep the rules of polite conversation but you may wish to think about your image. It isn't fair that we judge based on looks, but it happens.
*Edit - When I say looks I also means assumptions that people will make of others based on their prejudices. -*End Edit
Most recently, I applied for a job repairing projectors. During the interview they kept asking me about how well I would transition to an office environment. Completely Ridiculous! I would be working in the workshop not the office and I happened to be better dressed than any of my interviewers.
Basically, some people cannot see past their little world or people they can understand.
Man Verizon store by me they don't know anything. And they are jerks as well. Went to upgrade my moms phone and said she wouldn't get unlimited data with her Droid 3 so I just bought it from newegg called up and boom she got her unlimited data. Never going back to that store again. Hate how now you have to bring phone to store to get replaced.

Fruitsphone 4s

Here It is. Lets use this thread to post every information we have concerning this phone:
For the time being there is only one known official online seller :http://fruitsphone.taobao.com/ . Problem is this is only in chinese.
So all international sellers have to deal direct with fruitsphone.com on their gmail to make purchases. But again only payment method accepted is Western Union which is obviously risky.
Some of us have bought through Fastcardtech.com which is not an official reseller. But they have probably bought the product from taobao and are reselling.
Have ordered one for a friend from them . Should get it in 1 weeks time.
I am keen to try and get another one ( for myself) direct from fruitsphone but have asked for more specifications from them as they seem to have the 16g ones as well.
Unboxing of fruitsphone 4s on youtube:
http://youtu.be/BW7ZmwxnBxg
Was told in an email sent at 5pm (chinese time) that my phone was sent today... Now the time is midnight in China and still my order says "unshipped" on their website.. hoping tomorrow (It's 6pm local time) .. and they advertise for "your honest pal".. we'll see about that..

I think they got people to process their order follow up during the night . They sent me an email at 1 am yesterday regarding my shipping address and since then nothing else
Ah.. thanx for info

Fastcardtech just emailed me 5 mins ago to tell me they will have to refund me as I am asking them to ship to different address than my paypal address/ They want me to change my paypal address and re order.
I think i ll just go ahead and buy from fruitsphone through western union

Really nice! i like the GooApple V5 3G, but is a litte overpriced.
Also i see that they are not so far with the IOS rom that they have build in the "NEDERLANDS" -> Dutch language.
So i think to wait when they made this working.
Possible that the fruitsphone will be faster to made this possible.

Jesus Christ.. They've had plenty of time to check it.. I've not heard anything from them yet. When the refund make sure they also refund the 4.5% taken by PayPal..
BTW when you then get a phone directly from fruitsphone we can compare them..

thanks I will check. Am sure that in the transaction I will be losing somehow anyway as my bank must be charging me its fees for the credit card attached to paypal...grrr
I will post the pics of the fone when I get it. Fruitsphone.com seems to be serious enough on their website . lets hope I get something from them for my money..lol

Great . For my part am still struggling with my order. They cancelled the first one and are supposed to credit back my paypal within 24 hrs.
Once this is done I will order through them again as the option through Wertern Union is not interesting . WU charges 35 USD commission !
From what I read
there are two version of fruitsphone 4s
public version and retail version
Difference is the screen
Google translate does not translate well the taobao page.
Maybe its me and my antique pc
Hope to hear your reviews.
Thanks for the new thread....
Yeah its very difficult to navigate on the fruitsphone.com or Taobao. But what I found was that they are actually selling it at a higher price to the chinese market . The going rate for the 8 g on Toabao is Usd 240 and Usd 260 for the 16 g.
Thats higher than the Gooapple v5 3g.
Strange that fastcardtech does not have the 16g version. But I guess we will find out that its very easy to change the micro sd.
I have just bought a 16gb card class 6 at app. $20. Just need to buy the screwdriver when I get the phone.. Will do a unboxing video for sure..

Fastech has 2 fruitsphone but both are 3G and they
have different screen resolution.
Was it easy to order thru Fruitsphone.com??
I tried but the site wanted a phone number and I could not go beyond that.
Tried to google their ROM,but no such luck....
Thanks for the forum.... and the ROM in future )
Perso I have given up trying to order from Fruitsphone. While they seem to be a relatively serious company , their english comms is very poor and they only accept Western Union and the later charges almost 15% commission.
So I have reverted back to ordering from Fastcardtech. Will see what comes out of it.
To be able to download the root tools and rom package from fruitphone you have to insert yout imei in the forum to be awarded a vip status. Am registered on their forum but without a working imei , I cant proceed.
I guess it would be easier that the first one of us getting the phone to complete registration, get the roms and tools and post them here.
Am not due to get it before next week - status still unshipped with ''our honest pal'' at fastcardtech!!!
Mine is shipped (confirmed on mail from them) I've go tracking number but can't find any trace.. I did write them before I ordered, after my order was placed, before shipping and after shipping each time to make sure they did what they had to.. have a transcription in my mail.. still waiting for first step on route to be traceable.

lol.... wrong
The Asian market for this phone will outsell both the US and UK combined.
So it will be a relatively even split.
US and UK get the Snapdragon version and the rest of the world gets the Octa version (assumption)

And if I was a game developer which version do you think I will want to develop more?
Duh. US and UK versions. The markets that matter.
Plus the homeland of Samsung is getting Snapdragon version in all their carriers.
My country, Singapore is also getting the Snapdragon version.

I was stating facts.
Even if your chinese and from singapore, why would you think that the US and UK are the biggest and therefore the only important markets on the planet? When clearly the Asian markets outweigh those 2 combined by a fact of something like 3 to 1... or 66% higher (when it comes to overall sales records)
Anyways, enough bickering about which markets are more important than others, and back to which countries are actually going to get the Octa Processor version.

I don't know. I've been reading too much The Verge & Engadget I guess.
Well, sorry for my misjudgement.
Any country that doesn't have LTE.
But if I'm not wrong, not all carriers in UK have LTE right?
It means there should I9500 right?
There's a positive and negative to this.
The obvious negative is we won't get to use the new more powerful A15 big.little architecture chip.
The positive however is the Qualcomm chip will have all the sources. Which means CM10, etc. should be alot easier to port to the GS4. Assuming they chose to support it.
I was personally looking forward to the A15 version. I'll probably wait and see what the Nexus 5 will offer now.

Reason I ask is that your most likely to find android as being popular but no specifics as to the galaxy s line
The iPhone is most popular in the US while in every other region android dominates yet that's enough for Apple to be the most profitable company in the world though Apple doesn't make all its money from actual selling of iPhone but that has to say something about the US smartphone market

I cant find the exact article i read the other day, but it was something around those figures. This is including the fact that Australia and India are also classified as "Asia-pacific" region and classified in the Asian market figures also.
Heres 2 articles i found while trying to find the one with exact figures, stating that Samsung is going heavily after the Asian markets:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...o-hit-asia-at-same-time-as-rest-of-the-world/
"Asia is a key market for Samsung, particularly in Hong Kong and Singapore. In more emerging markets, like Thailand, Samsung's lower priced devices are more popular. "
http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/the-...atest-target-samsung-galaxy-s4-212949565.html
"Samsung all but took over control of the Chinese smartphone market last year, trouncing both Nokia and Apple with more than 30 million units sold."
Sorry i'll keep looking though.

But Krait 300 (for Snapdragon 600) is literally a modified A15 core. On the S4 Pro and Dual core (Krait 200) it was a mix of A9 and A15. So generally, you will still experience the A15 performance with better battery.

Good assumptions, but theres a huge difference in population between US and UK vs Asia-pacific regions....
The 2 biggest population countries in the world are India (1,241,491,960) and China (1,344,130,000), with a total of 2.6 billion vs population of US (313,914,040) and UK (62,641,000) total 377 million...
This is also excluding from the Asia-Pacific markets other Asian countries such as Singapore (5,183,700), Indonesia (242,325,638), Australia (22,620,600) etc etc
Estimated that a total of 4.2 billion people live in the Asia-Pacific region according to stats released in 2010 (Source)
And considering that the worlds TOTAL population is only 6,973,738,433 (so roughly 7 billion)
I would assume much of the sales would be consumed in this region compared to JUST the US and UK which consists of only 5.3% of the total worlds population... where as the Asia-Pacific region consists of 60% of the total worlds population...
Now given their economic stance of the US vs UK i can totally understand that the price of this phone is out of reach of a huge portion of the Asia-Pacific regions, but they still have the numbers to purchase far more units than anywhere else on the planet.
But we'll have to wait and see how it goes, because its all still speculation, even the article i read was speculation. At best we can estimate how many units COULD be sold, based on previous market sales of there previous products, such as the S3 or Note 2 etc and even then, the S4 has far more marketing than either of those products combined.
Estimated sales figures from these types of stats though, does show promising results for their 100million estiamted sales targets:
"Galaxy S4 has received four times as many registrations as the Galaxy S3 did last year -- a 446 per cent increase."
