[HOWTO] Replace Atrix 2 Touchscreen
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

If you don't want to /can't DIY, the most obvious and the best place is the Motorola service centre in your city but that might be expensive. If you're going to be in Mumbai one of these days, head to Manish Market for cheap repairs. It's inexpensive stuff without any guarantee but at least you save money.
Or better yet, go to the Service Center. When they give you their fat quote, tell them that you can't spend that much. They'll tell you where to go in your city for cheap unofficial repairs.

the ebay link i found in that thread has the bezel in it too, you dont have to glue if you buy that.
you didnt tell if the lcd died too or just the touch glass?

everything works its just that the screen is broken

OP, I'd made a few calls today. The guys will need to see your phone before they can give an estimate.

Nerwork issue with Vodafone
I am facing network issue with Vodafone. Network is going off and coming back for few seconds. Sometimes its working fine but not sure when it will go off. I changed my service provider to Vodafone after I bought the phone and facing this issue with Vodafone only. For all other networks, there is no issue. Dont know how to tackle this. Is there any solution for this known issue, Or I have to change my network or phone ?

Extremelly bricked phone

Hello all,
For the past 2 months, I have been facing various problems with my VOX. First, the display was not working properly. Then, the spring between the two halves started sticking out. Next, suddenly, after I restarted the phone, I saw that the display was blank. I thought that there might be some problem in the cable connection between the two halves. On closer inspection, I saw that a plastic like cable(presumably, the connection between the two PCBs) had got cut. Also, due to an earlier mishap, my receive call button had broken.
I would like to know if my phone is salvageable, and if yes, at what cost.
Presumable repairs needed:
1: keypad replacement
2: possible display replacement
3: maybe the connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
4: connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
I would like to get a rough idea as to how much will it cost to effect these repairs from the authorized service centre and if it will be worth going through at all.
I like this phone for its versatility and do not want to replace it without giving it a benefit of doubt.
Hoping to hear from you all as soon as possible.
Akshay
The authorised service center will charge approx 1000 for serving as labour and fitting charges. and rates for genuine spares if u buy them from service centres are
keypad - Rs. 600
display - Rs. 3200
connector - dont know
but still, after so much expenditure, they still wont guarantee for it to work though!
so, dyu think its time for me to let go of the phone??
If yes, then i have been looking at a few models, what do you think about the new samsung marine or star 3G??
Or suggest me a phone below Rs.10k and having maximum features... touchscreen is optional
If you are really affectionate to your VOX, then i'll suggest you to buy another VOx because i would have done the same.
else you can look for more mobile phones at poorvika.com, indiagsm.com, compareindia.com or gsmarena.com. but do tell me the one you buy.
try ordering online at ebay. i ordered mine for 42 US dollars just arrived 2 weks ago. Its an orginal housing front and back and including front and back keyboard. Il look again for the buyer and post his name here. Too bad fpc keypad is not included. But the housing is original.
Just get the service manual from winmodaco for htc vox
ditch it....
I went to the service centre. the guy there sed that the whole thing will cost a minimum Rs.3000 upto 70% of the phone cost ie. Rs.7000.
I think its time for me to move on [sob][sob]...
ah well, the phone served me well during its time....
goodbye HTC....
will post my new phone selection when i get it.

I think after using vox u can never be satisfied with Gene.
Vox is far much better, specially for those who love to watch video and movies on their phones since the video quality in GENE is far more inferior than VOX. but one thing is for sure that GENE in cheaper than vox but price hardly matters if u want satisfaction.

Good Luck !

Update
Sorry for reviving the thread, but I need your opinion on the topic again.
The service center guy told me that there was a complete hardware failure( too obvious, cos the torn cable between the two halves were clearly visible)
He said that it would take Rs.10k($200 approx) for complete repair. This mindblowing charge made me gulp and i took the cellphone back. Coming back to home, I saw that the guy was just citing the obvious as he had most definitely not at all opened the phone and tested it for any other faults. So, i took up matters in my own hands and opened my phone(finally). Well, I had nothing to lose and hence, went ahead. After opening the phone, I saw that one the springs in the sliding apparatus had loosened, and come in the way of the cable. The flimsy cable had gotten caught and hence, had got torn due to sliding of the two halves.
In the end, after complete disassembly, I saw that the only visibly damaged part was the cable between the two halves. I cannot see any reason to charge 10k for that. So i am planning to go to the repair center and show him the damaged part only and ask him to replace it. Searching the net, I found that the replacement part for the rigid flex board( I believe that's what it is) is $89( mebbe totally $100 approx after shipping charges, etc..).
So, do I go ahead and order the replacement from the net and reassemble the whole thing on my own, or do I not risk it?
I am gonna buy a new phone anyway, mostly the samsung marine. It looks good, albeit the small screen.
what i think is, you should post some pics to show us. someone might be know what wrong with your phone.
also we not know what exact problem hardware you are facing. if you have extra money why not to take a risk. same to me when im trying to replace a ribbon cable in my hermes. the shop said it will be cost 80usd/280myr. so i decide to not repair it and let it be...
now im happy with my vox and kaiser...
I am in a catch 22 situation. I have to take a photo of my damaged vox, but my vox is the only decent camera in my house. Neways, to give you a rough idea of what is broken, I will attempt to photoshop a stock image of the component.
The site from where i obtained the image( http://mobile.brando.com.uk ) was selling the same for $38+$3(shipping). I want to know if this site can be trusted and also, what are the chances for me to fix the vox at home without any further damage.
When I opened the phone, I saw that the connection was pretty delicate, So, I am a bit cautious of a home repair.
PS: here is the link of the product: http://mobile.brando.com/htc-s710-rigid-flex-board_p03852c1023d088.html
@RxenDrav: If the site is good, you too can check for your item there.
Plz help...
K ppl nebody hv ne idea what shud i do now? shud i risk 35$ or go for a new phone?
akshay, unfortunately im not profesional and dont have any experience in dissamble or repairing htc vox. but i'd done before on my hermes..
Someone here should help akshay fixing their vox...Anyone out there? we need help here!
also akshay you also can buy a used vox from your indian friend check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554896
ask him
hi akshay,
instead of wasting your Rs. 2000 (approx), you can buy a second hand vox for Rs. 3000 (approx) at gaffar market in new delhi. Since i saw many of them being sold there yesterday. You can get a 'never disassembled' phone instead of disassembling your phone and then reassembling your phone.
I have faced this many times, that each time my vox has been disassembled, everytime a new problem arises. So dont be so sure even after buying that abovementioned part. I think you can look for a used vox in pune also. u can easily find a cheap and gud one.

Repairing Broken Display of i9003: Is Sammy service centre charging me right?

Hi all,
Due to a bad drop off the 2nd. floor balcony to the street under, my i9003's display got cracked. Everything except the display (blank, black) was working fine, I could hear it ring when someone called.
I visited the authorized sammy service centre nearby and they inspected the phone. The entire display part (which has a pcb stuck to it and non-removable) needed to be replaced. All other things including the mainboard and back casing were ok.
They gave an estimate of Rs.7000 (US$ 140). Today I called and they said, your device is ready, total bill would be Rs.7000+4% VAT=Rs.7280
I wonder it is the exact price they gave estimate for... something fishy? Any inputs if I am being overcharged? Did anyone here go with a display change before?
TIA
On physical there is no warranty. U have to pay to them.

I went to Barrackpore...closest to me. I rarely go to the hustling and bustling proper Kolkata... it's tiring!
@Anyone: If you have contacts with a sammy service center (or even an employee), kindly confirm the cost of the display part.
Tatz strange I had my display replaced freely only a month back following the phone falling onto the tiles! But the display was working, ABCs the touch was not! I told them since morning it's like this and they changed it in an hour while I was in India for Diwali! luckily this happened while I was there.

I guess that's because you do not have physical evidence of damage, still the OP got charged 140USD is pretty steep >_<. I guess I should not drop the phone.
Sounds about right for official service. In Malaysia a cracked display + glass will incur about RM350, do the maths.
They are charging right , offcourse it is more amount to pay if you compare to local market. In DELHI if you went to GAFAR market(India largest mobile market) then you will get your display from 1.5k to 4.5k depending upon build quality.
Just check local market first if you didn't paid.

I think you would get it done within 4.5-5K in Bangalore. The AMOLED screen WITH some lights costed 7K for a friend of mine in Bangalore...Only screen should obviously be nearly 4.5 - 5K ...That's it~! Not more
Well, they said that the entire LCD Assy needed to be replaced as it comes in a sealed monoblock part which houses the top cover, gorilla glass, touch buttons, the lcd, sensors like proximity, light and front cam all on a pcb stuck to the lcd. In fact if you imagine total front part including the metallic rim, that is all the LCD assy holds.
The back cover, main assembly and mother board were OK.
I dug up a service manual and confirmed the part number: QFR01 (GH97-11829A)
Thanks everyone for your inputs... I guess there is no scope of saying anything to the service center guys as they have already completed the repairing... But still, I'll bluff them about friends getting that done for 5.5k! LOL

Update: Finally received it from the service center. Looks spanky new! Seems they replaced the main body frame too. Billed me Rs.7200. The senior tech wasn't there then and could not talk for a discount...
Came home, fired kies and updated to official GB I've been waiting for!
Guys, suggest you take care about not cracking the display... it really makes a hole in the wallet...

I guess you missed the opportunity to upgrade you device. I guess paying 7.5K for the device is waste becuase you can not resell the device with atleast a little profit. My advice is dont change. But a new phone like galaxy nexus from US (15 to 17K)

Help on identifying problem

Hi guys,
My htc fell in water, but I have dried it up. Now when I press the power key, the screen does not turn on. Then, when I press it again to supposedly off the screen, the screen turns on and off in 1second. So I can catch a glimpse of the lockscreen. So I was wondering, does anyone know why this is happening?
Is this a problem I can fix myself or should I bring it to a repair shop?
Any recommendation on a repair shop besides HTC. HTC did not even bother to look at my phone, they just saw the water indicator and said it would be $300-$500, which in fact, I know that it would not be that much.
So if anyone could help me, thanks.
I'll upload a youtube video so you guys can get a better understanding.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBVeprvekgY
Had the same accident on my wifes last Nokia, couldnt repair it myself and brought it to a repair shop. They told me to throw it away because the water sensor inside the phone reported the accident audn a repair would be as expensive a an equal ne phone. sorry mate, dont hope too much ...
I guess I shall just get a new phone, like an evo 3d or something. Thanks anyway
Or they can replace the parts that's been damaged. But i'm not sure if the repair costs more than buying a new phone.
I believes LCD internal circuit detect short and turns of lcd to prevent damage.
LCD may still have water inside or main board may have been damaged.
It is impossible to guess so repair tech must use parts from good phone and swap one by one to bad phone until bad part is found.
Most repair shop will not have ability to do this so they will charge minimum $200 ( average cost for them to buy phone) or they will assume LCD is defective and quote about $150. ( their charge for LCD replacement)
HTC just charges you phone refurb charge ( for customer not their cost)
I recommend sell on eBay for $150 and buy new(used phone) on Craigslist($200-$250).
I assume since you are asking this question you don't do many or any repair...if this is true...I highly suggest you keep it that way to prevent accidental and uneccesary damage
PM me and I can assist with repair/replacement

I was kinda hoping to fix it, but I guess I should go to HTC and ask them for an exact amount of price needed to fix this phone.
I doubt there's anymore water in the phone cause I have dried it for 3days in rice and even hair dryed it.

Replacing LCD+digitizer

About to replace my LCD and digitizer after an accident that has left my phone useless
I found a guide online and the items needed.
any heads up or pointers I should know about before doing this?
I hope you have insurance... First time I tried to open something electronic up, I cracked the screen! (ipod) be careful man
Sorry to hear man, but before you do anything you aren't really comfortable with I would suggest looking at some local cell phone repair shops. My brother cracked his LG G2x and the price for the digitizer was abour $75. We searched on yelp.com and called around and found a great shop that would repair it for $95 within two hours. Some places were charging well over $100 and would take at least 5 days to repair.
In the end though my brother was extremely happy with the experience and once he got his phone fixed he flashed a new ICS rom and it was literally a brand new phone! Good luck though my friend.
I cannot stress it enough, get an HTC digitizer! I bought a $30 one off of amazon and it gave up after a month. Get a cell phone tool kit and plenty of the two sided tape, just in case the screen needs to be redone. It's not hard to do, it just requires some time and a little patience. You'll do fine.

It's not that I don't feel comfortable with it, just never attempted it. I've done small electronics repair before though so i'm sure this will be fine.
Also thanks,
I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I'm replacing my wife's digitizer soon but I got a cheap one off eBay. Hopefully it doesn't have issues. It comes with a kit including the tools needed. Supposedly.
phone wont work after replacing the screen.
any ideas y it wont work,
The phone won't boot up at all? or is the touch screen not working?
Make sure all the ribbon cables are properly connected and are not broken. If not, you might have gotten a defective screen replacement.
RE:
Hi,
I replaced my digitizer.
To anybody who will do this in future, when you put the new digitizer in place, make sure that no dust or other things get under the glass.

[Q] LG refuses to repair; what should I do?

My device recently survived quite the impact, the screen got shattered, top right edge got deformed a little and then the ON/screenlock button stopped working the next day, but otherwise the phone was fully functional. So I sent it back to LG for repairs and the next week I get it back in the same condition, with a note saying it's not repairable/board cracked. I called them up, and got an image of the motherboard showing no cracks whatsoever, yet they still didn't want to re evaluate their conclusion when I created a new RA. When I got the phone back the battery was dead and even though I charge it I cant turn it on, until the button is replaced. LG suggested I contact Google for repairs, Google said I should contact LG. These people are helpless, they don't know anything. I could do the repairs myself, but I can find all the required parts online. Can I get some suggestions on my next step?
"Thank you for contacting LG Customer Service.
We are sorry to hear about the problem you are experiencing with your LG device, however, your phone has already been inspected by our technitians at our repair facility and, unfortunately it has been determined that it is not repairable.
We recommend you contact your carrier for any replacement possibnility."
not much to do but to repair it yourself if you want then, or maybe look for one on swappa?
for parts http://www.etradesupply.com/lg/android-models/lg-nexus-5.html or ebay
btw it looks like you need this http://www.etradesupply.com/lg-nexus-5-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-frame.html
Screen and battery are no problem, i could replace them any day. The power button (blue circle in the pic) doesn't work, if that's the issue, I would need to replace it, but I can't find any replacements. I actually spotted a tiny crack on the board (red circles). Ugh. Would i have to replace the whole thing?
Maybe its best to sell it for parts and buy a new one, that phone looks allmost like a total-loss. Maybe some of the internals are damaged also and total repair would be too expensive.

I have issues with the power button too because mine get stuck lot of times and it's verry annoying. I've contacted LG service center but they said that because it is soldered to the mainboard the only option to repair is to change to mainboard. I'm shocked . I haven't got warranty here because I bought it on Play Store in Canada and I'm living in Europe.
Btw I've started to research this issue and the parts and it seems these switches are the same as Samsung uses in their new galaxy phones. There are tons of pieces on ebay from it. But changing it is hard. You need a good heat gun which is able to point the heat to a small area and you have to heat the switch only. If you heat any other parts, then you phone is dead...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0xMMn1DRWs
But I'm not hundred percent sure that these are good switches for us, they just look the same :/

I've done the repair on a Galaxy S3 using the part from Ebay. Let me tell you now that it is a pain in the ass if you don't have good micro-soldering skills. I don't, lol, but my father does and he got it done for me. Be warned, you will mess up the board if you don't know what you're doing, but it can be done. Maybe find someone local who can do the swap for you.
buy a new one, cause this one is a dissaster! keep it for repairing parts...
