Setting static ip-adresse under ICS-Roms - HTC Desire S

Hi,
is it right that you can´t give an static ip-adress under ics-roms? This was possible under Gingerbread rom´s right?
It´s only for information. I have no problems with dhcp ip-adresses

You can not only set static, but set different static for each of the connections. This is one of the great improvements of ICS in my opinion.
Long press on the WiFi connection name. A menu will pop-up. Select Edit connections, then tick advanced options. Then you can choose between DHCP/static and enter your config

Turn off 3G, Disable Touch Keyboard and Keypad

Anyone know how to turn off 3G on the TC? I was able to install Dutty's 10 button comm manager on my Tilt, and that let me turn off 3G, but I can't get that to install on the TC.
Also, anyone know how to permanently disable the Touch Keyboard and Keypad? I've tried using Tweaks2k2, but that doesn't seem to work on the TC.
Thanks in advance.
Dave
you could go into settings>connections
and remove the isp settings then it would not be able
to use cellphone internet

Unfortunately, SIPchange doesn't disable and SIP's as far as I can tell, unless I'm missing something. It just lets you change which one you're using, which I can do already.

OK, so I see what SIPchange does now..it doesn't enable/disable any particular sip, but it set's the default on bootup. Which works for me. Thanks for letting me know about this.
How about this:
Go to the phone settings, click on the 'Band' tab, an there's some thing like 'Select your network type', and a list under it. Select GSM, and it won't use 3G or HSDPA again for your data connections.

You can also use SKTools and completely disable the SIPs you want and they will not appear in the pop-up menu of available SIPs.
Setting -> Phone -> Band -> Network Type -> GSM - will completely disable 3G and will save batery life...
to disable 3G, use schap's advanced config tool, search on the forum.

Get a reg editor and search Wifi, I think the settings are stored in there somewhere under HKLM.
do you use TF3D/Manila's wifi manager, or the WM default wifi manager?
with EnergyROM 6.5 + Manila's wifi manager, my phone auto connects after setting the password for the first time...
B/G router set to WPA2/AES and WPA1/TKIP fallback
Thanks all. I'll look into it.

Data Connection Auto Disconnect SOLVED!

Couldnt see any other posts that 100% solved this so thought i'd post........

I'm very happy as this was one of my biggest compaints about the phone!
Karlos.
Oh awsome, will try it now, have to put my phone away for xmas
Oh no way?!!! lol
Please can you share your settings for this app.
All default, choosing Qualcomm MSM72xx as the radio chip!
Left all 2g/3g settings off as I dont like the idea of being out of signal every time it switches over, and then in the Data section just choose to Disconnect idle connections after 30sec, with screen on, and programs runnning.
HTH!
Is this different from the setting in Advanced Config?
BTW - my 500th post! HURRAY!

To me, the setting of Advanced Config for autodisconnect data worked with Blackstone, but with Leo it's no use.
It also doesn't work on my german HD2, data connections in TF3D (Weather, Mail) doesn't close after choosen time settings in both tools

WM long life seems to work, following the setting mentioned by Karlos G:

Sorry, but this doesn't work on my device.
Also, the tool gb-soft gprs-tweak or the advanced config tool won't cut the data connection.
I think we need a new solution
I think you must be doing something wrong my friend as it works for everyone else, the updated version linked to above also works 100%.

[NEED TESTERS] A Possible fix for AOSP Wifi

Alright I think the problem is AOSP has trouble setting an IP address for itself. That's why it takes a while to connect but when connected its solid (at least for me).
All this is done by getting on a PC connected to your WiFi and typing in your gateway IP address in the address bar (most likely 192.168.1.254).
Head to "Home Network" then "Advanced Settings". In "Device List" on the bottom should be a button saying "Edit Address Allocation" Click it.
Find your device (mine said android-a14242f6c57da641 but if you have more than one device then just find the IP of your phone and link it with the one in the list.) In the drop down menu "Address Assignment" set your phone as "Private Fixed: xxx.xxx.x.xxx" (You can pick a random one just make sure another device doesn't have the same IP).
Remember that IP address and click save at the bottom.
Now head to your phone and open up WiFi. Hold down on your Wifi's address and click "Modify network".
Set "IP settings" from "DHCP" to "Static". Scroll down and in "IP address" type in the IP you set for it on the PC.
Also make sure "Gateway" is set to your default gateway address (probably 192.168.1.254)
Click Save and turn WiFi on and off to test how fast you connect.
Whatever happens report back here. This is only a theory.

Will test now.
EDIT: I have two routers (one for each side of the house; there is no good central location). I set one to static and the other to DHCP, and the one set with a static IP definitely connects faster than the other.

I have been having this wifi problem using cm 10.1 on my AT&T HTC One X. I just tried what you described, and so far simply changing the IP on my phone to static fixes the problem.:victory: Then again, this is just right now. I will report back in time an let you know if it continues to work (I hope it does). Thanks for the fix, I really needed it and I couldn't find anything else.

How to change DNS IP

I replied in another thread, but I think I'll give it it's post because many people are asking.
Took some crummy pics:
Home -> WIFI connection:
image (1).jpg
Device Network -> Wi-Fi Connected
image (2).jpg
Network Wi-Fi -> {select your active connection} In my case it is Leafs RULE!!_5G
image (3).jpg
Select Advanced options
image (4).jpg
Then select IP settings. In your case it'll say IP settings DNS. In my pic it says IP settings Static.
image (5).jpg
IP settings -> STATIC
image (6).jpg
Go through the IP settings and enter in a static IP, gateway, and DNS settings. Press save and then hope it saves.
You know it saved properly when "IP settings DNS" changes to "IP settings Static". In my case, it didn't pick up the new settings till the next day. Maybe after you save your settings, power cycle NP; go back into settings and see if it changed over to static. As with other things with the NP, try a couple of times.
I didn't change or add anything to my router. My router is still using my ISP DNS IPs.

Go through again slowly and double check. I had the same issue at first. I saw settings were saved in the wrong sections. I think there are bugs in this section when saving.
I kept having problem saving the dns 2. I key in a different ip address, but it kept reverting to the ip address of dns 1.
I've noticed this also, but this has not caused any issues.
Do you know if there's any Apps for easy switching DNS on the NP without Root?
I would love being able to switch between European and American Netflix, but going through all those steps to change DNS every time is a bit of a hassle :-/

Don't you have to type in all the other stuff too every time? (IP, Gateway, Router IP etc.)
Last time I tried it didn't save any of it.
Think there is a bug, I also did not manage to save dns2. Some said have to wait for 1 day before nexus player reflect the new dns. IMHO, Lolipop is not ready for nexus player.
Very nice. Another option is you can use static IP overrides in your router, if it has them. I'm able to assign a static IP based on Mac address via my router that overrides the DHCP server. This is handy for devices where static IP setup isn't easily available (or not available at all). Not all routers can do this though.

No. You have to just put in the new DNS IPs for 1 and 2
