This app works 100% for disconnecting the Data connection after a user definable period of data innactivity.........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
I'm very happy as this was one of my biggest compaints about the phone!
Karlos.
Oh awsome, will try it now, have to put my phone away for xmas
Oh no way?!!! lol
Please can you share your settings for this app.
All default, choosing Qualcomm MSM72xx as the radio chip!
Left all 2g/3g settings off as I dont like the idea of being out of signal every time it switches over, and then in the Data section just choose to Disconnect idle connections after 30sec, with screen on, and programs runnning.
HTH!
Is this different from the setting in Advanced Config?
BTW - my 500th post! HURRAY!

To me, the setting of Advanced Config for autodisconnect data worked with Blackstone, but with Leo it's no use.
It also doesn't work on my german HD2, data connections in TF3D (Weather, Mail) doesn't close after choosen time settings in both tools

WM long life seems to work, following the setting mentioned by Karlos G:

Sorry, but this doesn't work on my device.
Also, the tool gb-soft gprs-tweak or the advanced config tool won't cut the data connection.
I think we need a new solution
I think you must be doing something wrong my friend as it works for everyone else, the updated version linked to above also works 100%.

Every other setting is discarded, and I have chosen Qualcom MSM7K, QSD8K (GSM)

I turned on the uninstallable switch but I have no way to test to be sure it works. I can only guarantee that it will show up in remove programs.
Thanks! ill wait until someone tests it though. anyone?
Nice App.
Hi,
I installed this app on my pre-production kaiser and it works fine, including uninstallation
It replaces the data connection icon in the comms manager so once installed it is slightly more difficult to disconnect from GPRS.
Apart from this.. it works fine if you want to disable 3g networking.

this was said in the original forum
"Hi, I just found out I think that if I switch between GSM to Auto band using this comm Manager the phone will make GSM Band as priority over 3G band. If I switch to 3G Band only manually through Phone Setting, then switch to Auto then the Phone will make 3G as priority. Strange!"
i wonder if this is really the case. i did notice the other day that i had the band set to auto and there was an "E" icon showing. i then switched to 3g and an "H" was showing. i dont understand why it wouldn't have automatically been on "H" since auto was selected.
im going to give this file a shot just a quick back up first.
Also looking for this. I'm hoping someone can craft one with both the Data and the 3G buttons. The stock CM has a space for another button already. Someone's gotta be able to add the 3G button in, please!
3g button doesnt seem to work properly. i confirmed that the quote from my previous post was true.
Oh well. I read a post about someone missing all the little things XDA created for the Hermes. Here is another example and I am starting to wonder if I want the Tilt the 1st day or even few months. It will take a while for the Kaiser to get all the hacks working.
I'm one of those people! But, most tweaks are now in place, I just added this com manager and it's great to be able to throttle down the connection once again to save battery. I'm finding AE Button extremely useful in making these tweaks work like the Hermes.
This com manager works well and as mentioned, it would be better if the Data AND 3G keys could both be present since there is space. Since the Kaiser's Red button no longer breaks the connection when pressed and held, I've used AE Button to map a key, I double-press one to "close dialup connection" which breaks the connection. Works great!
I've tried this .cab on my TyTN II and I've uninstall it.
It doesn't disable your connection like NoData of MoDaCo does.
The one im using works fine, but doesn't have the Data button ( i dont really care) . It does have a beam button though which is obviously useless on the Kaiser, so i suppose that should be replaced with Data. My biggest hope is that someone can replace "Wireless Modem" with "Internet Sharing". I cant get the BT PAN in my laptop to connect when i use Wireless Modem, but it works great with the windows Internet Sharing app.
Unfortunately the installation does not work , shortly before finishing it said
that the program has not the necessary permission ...
any hints ?
make sure comm manager is not running in the backgrounmd
10B with 3G Comm Manager
Here is the one with fixed WLAN link button. Use it to see if it works.
Anyone know how to turn off 3G on the TC? I was able to install Dutty's 10 button comm manager on my Tilt, and that let me turn off 3G, but I can't get that to install on the TC.
Also, anyone know how to permanently disable the Touch Keyboard and Keypad? I've tried using Tweaks2k2, but that doesn't seem to work on the TC.
Thanks in advance.

OK, so I see what SIPchange does now..it doesn't enable/disable any particular sip, but it set's the default on bootup. Which works for me. Thanks for letting me know about this.
How about this:
Go to the phone settings, click on the 'Band' tab, an there's some thing like 'Select your network type', and a list under it. Select GSM, and it won't use 3G or HSDPA again for your data connections.

You can also use SKTools and completely disable the SIPs you want and they will not appear in the pop-up menu of available SIPs.
Setting -> Phone -> Band -> Network Type -> GSM - will completely disable 3G and will save batery life...
to disable 3G, use schap's advanced config tool, search on the forum.

Hi man and thank you for your help. Unfortunately this is not I was looking for as from the pictures attached the one shortcut that I need is missing i.e. "data connection". I am looking for a comm manager with at most 4 tabs like data conection, bluetooth, internet sharing, and wifi. Any customised version already on the forum?

I have the same problem. Just trying out an LG KS20 - my first non-HTC device - and I'm surprised that the device can't close one connection (e.g. internet) before opening the other (e.g. WAP) on its own. My HTC devices used to manage that fine. KS20 needs manual close of the connection - anyone know how HTC devices manage that?

Not on the forum, but have a look at phoneAlarm from pocketmax.net. It's a today plugin that does hundreds of other things too (esp. manage phone profiles), but most skins for it offer buttons to (de)activate data connections, bluetooth (including visibility and A2DP toggles), WIFI, ActiveSync etc.
Have a look at the skins section and you'll see.

does it show on the screen or in the background as a process??
My tytn II turned on Active sync all the time (in ran in the background as a process). If I shut down active sync on the pda, i would find it running in the background a couple of mins later.
Edit: Although on my previous pda phone, Eten X500+, active sync would stay off until I connected my PDA to the computer. When I disconnected the PDA, the active sync app would close (process would stop). I don't think its an issue, it's just HTC's engineer's at work. Maybe they had issues when active sync closed, like the pda wouldn't sync properly next time is was connected to the computer.
same here, i have a mogul and it would do the same, im guessing it is normal.
Well I've got WkTask installed and it shows on the top title bar...
And it shows in the "Running Program list" in Task Maanager...
I've remove almost everything on the device and deleted my exchange partership and it still Turns on!!!
It is driving me nuts... I'm at the stage of calling HTC... but I know what their answer is to all problems... they will say have tried "Hard Reset" ???
So next step will be that I guess... Unless someone has another Idea...
By the way, another issue but, the battery life is rfeally ****ty on this device compared once again to my TyTN II, I'm not impressed at all so far!!! This morning 07:30 off the charger, toyed with it for a max of 15 minutes in the whole day and the Batt went dead on me arround 18:00!!!!!
And to say that I spent over a Grand ($ 1,150.00) for it, incl all transport, customs, brockerage, import taxes... Not a happy camper at all!!!

That's not true. I feel it IS normal. Every dutty ROM I ever ran on my Kaiser (all of them) This happened. It doesn't happen in the Leo ROMs (all of them) I use though, maybe has to do with the way the ROM is setup.
yep, activesync really ought to be running in the background...it uses hardly any resources and doesnt pester you so why is it such a problem?!?

It has nthing to do with the app it self but the fact that if AS is trying to Sync all the time it turns the Radio ON and Consumes power... which leads to extreme batt drain!!!

I had this battery draining problem too. My workaround was to ensure that Data Connections are set to auto-disconnect after a certain time (for me 1 minute).
This greatly improved my battery life to the point that I now don't mind that ActiveSync is constantly on (however annoying and pointless that may be... previous WM5/6/6.1 ROMs I used on my Trinity never had this occur)
Anyway to auto-disconnect via registry:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime=60
(60 seconds before disconnect, change to suit you)
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(default is "~GPRS!" which is always on)
Or install Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool, run, and select Menu->Connection Settings and you'll see "Disconnect after :" "x minutes" options.
Try that if it doesn't work there's also an ActiveSync setting that people say chews the battery on any WM device... google will find it for you. I tried it but the auto-disconnect for me worked much better.

Yeh this is the ActiveSync drain I was talking about... I did this but still find ActiveSync restarting itself tho. But at least it doesn't seem to drain battery anymore.

Does this auto disconnect happen no matter what, or only if the connection is inactive?
For example, will it stay connected if im connected to live messenger?
Also, will it turn itself on to get my emails according to the schedule (every 30 mins for me)?
As i red it somewhere, here's how have disabled activesync autostart permanently:
> Disable notification repllog.exe - AppRunAfterTimeChange
And voila, just manual activesync.
Note - You can use DotFred's Task Manager to accomplish this task.

Here is my own aGPS settings cab.
Created originally for my Raphael, but works perfectly fine on my Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) and should work on any other WM6.1/5 aGPS capable device.
This replaces the default aGPS server to the one GOOGLE aGPS server. This has been found to dramaticaly increase GPS lock speed! After applying this cab i get cold Locks in about 20 seconds and warm gps lock in under 15!
Don't be scared to try it out as its easy to revert to defualt settings!
Try it out and report your results!
I created this so I can just add it to my UC list making life easier in setting up a rom after flashing and thought others might benefit from it.
Feel free to comment, hate, or appreciate
If there is a demand, i can easily delete the At&t bit and so its more generic, also if you want this adapted for your provider, reply with your APN and GPRSConnection and i can create the cab for you
It sets the following in the [HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL aGPS\] Registry
DynamicURL to supl.google.com (searched on the internet and many people claim much faster locks than the default h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org)
EnableAGPS 1 (so aGPS is enabled in settings)
EnableLocInfo 0 Unchecks "Enable AGPS loation information to network services. Operator can get your location information." From the Privacy tab of the AGPS Settings
ServerIP to 74.125.113.192
ServerURL and TLSHostName to supl.google.com
Decided to just make a Generic one that sets the nokia aGPS server, enables aGPS, disables Location info and no network configuration.
[UPDATE: The cabs are the SAME as the previous ones titled FF ATT/Fido/Generic Nokia aGPS Settings, I just changed Nokia to Ultimate because I was getting PMs on how to install them on nokia devices]
update 3/30/10: updated the cabs to use the google supl which is provided on android devices!
There is no need for carrier specific settings, they should automaticly fill in from info already on your device. If you go to HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL aGPS\ and APN, Network, and GPRSConnection are empty after you've installed the cab and soft reseted, then post here and i will make carrier specific cabs.
[06/08/2010] Re-attached the supl.nokia cab as requested. Please test and compare to the newly attached "FF Ultimate aGPS Tweak_supl.google_Generic.cab" and report your results.
When i ping supl.nokia.com requests time out leading me to believe nokia's servers are down, or they changed them to something else.
With FF Ultimate aGPS Tweak_suple.google_Generic.cab i get a lock in under 15seconds, even after hard reset!!

Hi, I have installed the generic cab. But one question: do I have to establish the data connection by myself manually? I mean, applications like explorer or email do connect automatically once they need it. Apparently AGPS doesn't.
Further, as far as I understand, the generic cab should work everywhere if not limited by your carrier, right? I wonder if it works in Singapore though. Any ideas?

Finch, did you try the cab? what's the feedback on it working with Fido?
Now only thing left is to find a way to trick the phone into thinking it's on Roger's instead of Fido and get rid of that roaming problem.

Fido seems to work well. Initial fix can be slow but pretty damn fast afterwards.
Thank you very very much

Not 100% sure if it is supposed to activate the data connection or not. If it doesn't, just fire up internet explorer before you decide to use your GPS to have a data connection.
And the generic cab is without data settings, so yes it should work in singapore or with any carrier

I applied the Generic Cab of GPS settings to my Touch Pro using an Energy ROM Build 6.5 21864 and Radio 1.14.25.05. I must say this is one of the most useful cabs floating around. The GPS locks in about 5 secs. Its almost as if Big Brother is watching you. Thank you Fone Fanatic your cab was of great help.

and about the big brother comment, thats why this cab does the following
EnableLocInfo 0 Unchecks "Enable AGPS loation information to network services. Operator can get your location information." From the Privacy tab of the AGPS Settings

so this doesn't let big brother follow, although, if he did want to he really could and we can't do anything about that
glad this helping people out as it did me!
So wait, we can use any of them on any carrier or....
Which one do i use for tmobile>?
I installed the generic one on my TP which is on T-Mobile UK.
It did not seem to get a quick lock when I had the data connection disabled.
I enabled the data connection and it seemed to get a quick lock.
So I take it that the generic one will not fire up your data connection itself, but if you get an operator specific one it can?
If so, could I have a version for T-Mobile UK please? I am not sure what the password is, these are the settings I can find on my phone:
APN: general.t-mobile.co.uk
User: T-mobile
Pass: ??? (Starred out)
Is there not maybe some way of taking this info from the phone or automating this process so you dont have to make unique versions of this app?
And what about QuickGPS, does this make it redundant?
Thanks
What about touch pro cdma? Should this work for CDMA? I see no APN key in registry. How could I make it work?
Thanks.
