does it show on the screen or in the background as a process??

My tytn II turned on Active sync all the time (in ran in the background as a process). If I shut down active sync on the pda, i would find it running in the background a couple of mins later.
Edit: Although on my previous pda phone, Eten X500+, active sync would stay off until I connected my PDA to the computer. When I disconnected the PDA, the active sync app would close (process would stop). I don't think its an issue, it's just HTC's engineer's at work. Maybe they had issues when active sync closed, like the pda wouldn't sync properly next time is was connected to the computer.

same here, i have a mogul and it would do the same, im guessing it is normal.

Well I've got WkTask installed and it shows on the top title bar...
And it shows in the "Running Program list" in Task Maanager...
I've remove almost everything on the device and deleted my exchange partership and it still Turns on!!!
It is driving me nuts... I'm at the stage of calling HTC... but I know what their answer is to all problems... they will say have tried "Hard Reset" ???
So next step will be that I guess... Unless someone has another Idea...
By the way, another issue but, the battery life is rfeally ****ty on this device compared once again to my TyTN II, I'm not impressed at all so far!!! This morning 07:30 off the charger, toyed with it for a max of 15 minutes in the whole day and the Batt went dead on me arround 18:00!!!!!
And to say that I spent over a Grand ($ 1,150.00) for it, incl all transport, customs, brockerage, import taxes... Not a happy camper at all!!!

B18, This is certainly not "Normal"!!!! On my TyTN II I could turn it off and it would not turn back ON by it self untill the set schedule in it!!!

That's not true. I feel it IS normal. Every dutty ROM I ever ran on my Kaiser (all of them) This happened. It doesn't happen in the Leo ROMs (all of them) I use though, maybe has to do with the way the ROM is setup.

yep, activesync really ought to be running in the background...it uses hardly any resources and doesnt pester you so why is it such a problem?!?

Try this, it works:

Of course fter soft reset AS will strt ONCE but after you close it it will never start again.

Evidently there is a problem with this unit... is it related to AS???

Because this is the only thing I can see that would be draining my Batt so fricking fast...
It has nthing to do with the app it self but the fact that if AS is trying to Sync all the time it turns the Radio ON and Consumes power... which leads to extreme batt drain!!!

I had this battery draining problem too. My workaround was to ensure that Data Connections are set to auto-disconnect after a certain time (for me 1 minute).
This greatly improved my battery life to the point that I now don't mind that ActiveSync is constantly on (however annoying and pointless that may be... previous WM5/6/6.1 ROMs I used on my Trinity never had this occur)
Anyway to auto-disconnect via registry:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime=60
(60 seconds before disconnect, change to suit you)
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(default is "~GPRS!" which is always on)
Or install Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool, run, and select Menu->Connection Settings and you'll see "Disconnect after :" "x minutes" options.
Try that if it doesn't work there's also an ActiveSync setting that people say chews the battery on any WM device... google will find it for you. I tried it but the auto-disconnect for me worked much better.

Yeh this is the ActiveSync drain I was talking about... I did this but still find ActiveSync restarting itself tho. But at least it doesn't seem to drain battery anymore.

Does this auto disconnect happen no matter what, or only if the connection is inactive?
For example, will it stay connected if im connected to live messenger?
Also, will it turn itself on to get my emails according to the schedule (every 30 mins for me)?

As i red it somewhere, here's how have disabled activesync autostart permanently:
> Disable notification repllog.exe - AppRunAfterTimeChange
And voila, just manual activesync.
Note - You can use DotFred's Task Manager to accomplish this task.

Auto Disconnect GPRS while device is asleep

Hi, I know this topic has been covered many times, but I here's my issue.
I have phoneAlarm running on my Trinity and set phoneAlarm to cut my data connection after 1min of data inactivity and it all works fine. I can browse the web, check emails using the WM5 inbuilt email application. After 1 min of data inactivity, my connection is cut, brilliant, works like a treat.
However, once the device is asleep, and my email application polls, the data connection remains connected (if there are no emails, it won't wake up) and I have to switch on again and either let it disconnect when awake, or manually disconnect it.
The funny thing is, its just the email application thats causing this. If I was browsing using PIE and just press the power button whilst it was still connected, it times out and it gets disconnected, and the next time I wake up the device I can see there is no data connection.
it seems like the WM5 email application whilst asleep is either holding on to the connection or some data is being transferred, as I said it doesn't happen if the device is awake.
This really is bugging me, as the whole point of setting up "Auto disconnect" is so I can leave it and trust it to only connect when need be. Currently, if I don't use the phone and don't receive any emails, my GPRS connection is on all the time whilst the phone is asleep.
I have tried other programs, but generally, all of these applications perform the same registry tweak.
Sorry for long post.
I did a program (ConnectionManager) that wakes up the pda to Idle state (screen off, no sound and cpu to minimum level) each 3 minutes and check the states of connections. If there isnt traffic in 2 minutes the connection is closed.
Hi,
Interesting. Do you have a link to that program? Tried to find it in the forum by searching for "ConnectionManager" and found nothing.
So when the device is in idle state, min CPU, screen off etc, there's no problem in accepting calls etc?
I was reading a thread regarding the other program you wrote that switches bands, was interested in that too.
Thanks for your help.
Don't worry, I've found it, and it WORKS. You're a star!!!
exactly what I was looking for. It did come across it before, but for some reason I thought you didn't check for data flows and close the connection full stop. Obviously i mis read
I've downloaded WM5 SDK, but didn't really know where to start, I am a developer, but don't know anything about the WM5 APIs. Cheeky question, but is it possible to let me have the source code?
I would love to enhance something like this, would love it to be a today plug in and let you enable it without opening a new form. Settings about how long before checking. Not sure how easy it would be.
Just a comment really, not sure if its just my device (Trinity) but the Close Program button seems to be out of shape, i.e. larger than the other 3 and goes right to the edge of the screen.
Oh, one more question, do you think having the device on idle will have much impact on battery life. Once the device is in idle, does it suspend again, or does it keep it in idle until you switch it on again?
Thanks again!
Hi, another thing. Having tried this program out for a little while now, it seems to not let the device time out into suspend state. For me, it seems to just lower the brightness of the screen. The program still works, but it won't let the device suspend automatically, i thought it would switch it to idle, and turn of the screen.
Once the machine is suspended manually by pressing the power button, then its fine. Do you have this issue?
Still works like a treat though, and better than anything I had before!
Thanks again!
Sorry, my mistake. It all works fine!
Hi. I was going to do other release (the user can modify connections check, etc) but i will post the source code, sure (but the source code is in my laptop). tomorrow i will post it.....
Greetings

Idle is a state with minimum impact...but is bigger than suspended. When the device wakes up to idle state it is suspended again after a few seconds if the cpu isnt used too much. When the device is woke up by a app notification (Its our case) the system suspends very quickly. In my tests (using log method) the program does its stuff (1 seconds) and 10 seconds later the system is suspended again...
I ve used Visual Studio 2005 and the program was wrote using C (not MFC)...
Hi Daniel
Where can I download this app ?

My WiFi won't turn on anymore... thoughts?

Hi guys,
In December, I started having problems with my WiFi. When I go into Comm Manager and press the WiFi symbol, I get the WinMo6 "spinner" to let me know it is thinking and then nothing.
Since then I've tried 3 or 4 different ROMs and I am still having the same problem. Is it just time for a new phone? Does anyone have any helpful hints or things to try?
Thanks in advance.
I got this exact same problem too....
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I would really like WiFi back.
I have a similar problem but it will turn on, find the AP but not connect. I have a g-only router ang a b-only router (both unsecured) it will not connect to either, it'll try for a few seconds then stop. I have activate the connect to G router hack in the registry.
from will
As a note, I just turned on the Today Item "Wireless" and WiFi doesn't show up at all. Does that give anyone any clues?
my phone sometimes does this not-connecting-to-available-router-trick, then my usual procedure is to reboot the router.
Sometimes it shows the Icon as connected, but in reality won't even turn on the WiFi, even after a reboot. Then it's a bit more complex... I switch off the AP, then the wireless subsystem, reboot the phone, while it's booting reboot the AP, and THEN activate wireless. This usually shocks it back into sense and it connects just fine. This usually happens after I accidentally use the popup window to control the WiFi, or sometimes randomly. Small problem, but when it happens, pretty annoying...

Yep, sounds just like what happens to me sometimes...
I happened to have same problem with my jasjar for about a year,,,
i started to believe its a hardware problem ...
the thing is i have tried all available ROMS official and not....but sometimes it works most of the times it dowsnt...
well program conflict is not the answer coz even after formatting i still have same problem....
What radio version are you guys using? I think I have 1.18.00. I am using Laurentius26's 2.05.00 ROM.
Guys,
Get a copy of TaskManager and check in the devices tab and check the wlan, also check your services tab.
It is likely that you either
1 Have a bad flash
2 Have a corrupt/unsigned driver
3 A hardware fault
My guess would be 2
Thanks for the response, Beast.

I can stop it and restart it but it doesn't seem to do anything... Any ideas?

ZCF1 is loaded and using WZCSVC.dll.
There are 4 unloaded devices: DSK3, DSK2, COM8 and MIX1.
Thanks for your help as well. I hope we can get to the bottom of this.
mzalan - your problem seems different then jrronimo's.
mzalan's problem seems somewhat like something i experienced 2 days ago - relating to the wpa-tkip fix.
although i think your problem has nothing to do with the router, i think rebooting your phone is what does the trick. am i wrong?
i've made a cab for the wpa fix. after installing it my problems were gone.
give it a try - couldn't hurt.

Yes, you are wrong, I must say. You see, this only happens in the dormitory where stay during weekdays at school. There is one wireless AP there, a small Linksys unit, which only stops working if there are many connections through it(solved, since I limited the number of clients in the DHCP to 10, whit a 30min lease. The tech-man forgot to set a new admin password), or if the flow is too great. My tech-savvy roommate says it dies because the processor is too weak to handle the flow or the many connections, and the firmware hangs, that's why it needs to be reset.
The other thing supporting me is that those are the times when everyone with a laptop in the dorms comes running to me, or just yelling down the corridor for me to "do something about the net". So it can't be my phone only.
The second case, where the icon shows me as connected, however, is only the fault of my phone, but even then the router needs to be turned off before I reboot the phone to sort of "shock WiFi system back into life". Luckily, this does not happen often. But these are the times when everyone keeps asking why there was a drop in the service...

Well, I tried this and it didn't seem to help or hurt. I now see ZCF1: as having the driver wpatkip.dll but loaded or unloaded WiFi doesn't load.
A few times over the weekend, though, it WOULD load up (before I tried the .cab, I think)... but then it would turn itself off. Also, the page in the network settings where you would normally see a list of available access points is just sorta... gone.
sounds like your registry is corrupt. I would format the doc with mtty Task 28 55a and re-flash your rom mate.
That sounds scary but I'm certainly willing to try. The registry doesn't get overwritten when a new image is installed? Eesh.
So... what do I do? heh. I hate to be a noob about it but mtty is not something I've had to deal with before.

Firstly you need to download MTTY, it's floating around this Forum somewhere.
Secondly read the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
This has details of all commands accseible through MTTY.
Yes the reg should be cleared when flashing, however it requires user input to "Clear Storage" after a flash, and it is possible that the DOC is corrupted.
If you still have questions after searching on MTTY, post back and we'll give more help.

why wont 3g/gprs disconnect by itself?

i'll give u guys a scenario..
i open outlook
check email
everything is done.
I close the task but the 3g / H icon still shows connect and the timer keeps moving.
Or even when i update the weather..... it updates, downloads and all, but the icon still shows connected and stuff.
Oh my old touch , once i checked my email etc, it would disconnect by itself or the weather.
is there a way to prevent this or set a timer that after 10seconds of no connctivty to disconnet?
You know, just today I was looking for the same thing since I didn't want a data connection to drain the battery. When playing around in Schap's Advanced Config Tool under the connection settings, there's an option in there to disconnect after "x" seconds, which you can set to 10, 20, 30, 45 secs or even minutes. I haven't had a chance to play around with it too much, but initial observations are not very positive. For example if I wasn't using Opera to browse it does not disconnect, however when I exit, the data connection was stopped. I tried the same thing with the HTC home weather app and it didn't disconnect after the update. So not really sure, again this was only playing around with it for a few mins.
yeh it's getting kind of annoying really.
whats this tool ur talking about? did you download it somewhere?

Exchange Server on TP2.. not being pushed automatically....

Sprint Touch PRO2
Stock ROM
I use the exchange server. my email is not being pushed in real time. on the TP1 i had no issues with this and the mail would come in "as items arrive" which is how i prefer it.
if i do a manual sync it will connect and download any email..
if i set it to a predetermined number to sync in the drop down list it DOES those intervals with no issues..
data switch is ON and data works. i am just not getting the "as items arrive". adjusting the peak times does nothing...
are there any reg entries i need to look at?anything i can check? ive deleted and re-installed the exchange server but when set to "as items arrive" it will not fetch. it WILL fetch if i have the phone connected to ASync on the computer (either via BT or USB).
would appreciate any response from others who use an Exchange... could it be an issue on the company Exchange server side? i dont see how as i was getting the email just fine using "as items arrive" on the TP1. i no longer have the TP1 so cant check anything there...
I used to have an HTC Sprint Mogul, now have TP2. When I first got the Mogul 2 yrs ago, I could connect to my company's exchange server from the phone but direct push didn't work. Same issues as you described. I double checked all my settings.
I got a free mail2web account and deleted my comany's server to set it up (can only have one exchange server which is dumb). From the mail2web server, direct push worked perfectly every time.
To me that said there was a config problem with the server. I brought this to the attention of my company mail server admin. who was not impressed. He said his winmo phone gets push mail from the co server no problem so that was that.
A few months later, direct push started working. I didn't change any setting on my phone.
You could try mail2web free trial and see if that works.
http://mail2web.com/mobile-email/
I have the same server set up with my Sprint TP2 an so far DP works fine. Stock ROM.
You wouldn't happen to be using the Gmail push, would you? Many people have been having problems with Google's rollout of the new feature. My push email works sporadically, and attachments won't download if the file name is too long/complicated.
thank you for your response! i will contact them and see if i can get some more info.. this is a blackberry company FIRST! well it seems that it may lie on the company end... thx again and if i get some response back ill respond here...
ok i have been thru 3 sprint touch PROs now and this new one still can not hold onto the Async connection wirelessly.
a few times after a soft reset it will connect wirelessly but after some time it will just close the connection. im always in a good signal area and i have not installed any programs to alter the outlook ordata in any way. in fact the only programs i have are resco photo view, pocket mechanic, and resco registry editor.
can any sprint users comment on if they are able to KEEP their exchange running WIRELESSLY on their phone and have it set to "as items arrive" with no issues? i can set it to those preset fetch times in the drop down box but i dont want to do that and thats not PUSH email as im used to with the PRO1.
any help/opinions appreciated....
are there any reg entries i can look in to see what may be the issue?
Hi, I'm trying to sort out a similiar issue using FlexMail.
Flexmail is the best software I could find to receive mails instantly. It works great with Gmail and Exchange servers. Right now, I have 2 accounts configured (Gmail and Exchange).
In my TYTN II (which I don't have anymore) flexmail worked great. Mail got pushed 5-20 seconds after being send.
Now that I have Touch Pro 2, everything seems to work fine but somehow, when the device is sleep, the connection will eventually drop and I won't receive any mails until I wake up the device.
When I wake up my device, GPRS connection is still there. I don't know if it's related but I also configured my device to download weather every 1 hour and that doesn't happen if the device is asleep: I mean, when I wake up in the morning I can still see the moon in TF3D wheather tab.
I'm using latest official HTC ROM and everything seems to be fine in the registry settings.
I'll probably try a different ROM, but I'm pretty sure this can be solved digging a little more in the registry.
Another big difference is windows mobile version. TYTN II uses 6.1 while TP2 uses 6.5. I could try installing the official 6.1 rom and see what happens.
Marctronixx are you still having issues with Push Mail?
hey there, yes its still hit or miss with exchange on the TP2 (sprint). i also have a htc hero with exchange and it gets the email pushed instantly as it should with no issues... even while sleeping... others state they dont have this issue with exchange on their PRO2 on sprint but i am having it.. sometimes the connection will stay up even after the phone is sleep (Screen off) then it will eventually just disconnect.. no rhyme or reason as to why... didnt mean to vent! LOL but yeah issue is still there...
I can confirm Flexmail works ok with HTC Official ROM (WinMo 6.1). This is the ROM I'm using right now: RUU_Rhodium_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.19.721.3_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship
It doesn't have all the eye candy you will find with new TF3D and WinMo 6.5 but your battery should last longer and push mail should work like expected.
I don't know If I will keep this ROM. I'll have to try another windows mobile 6.5 roms to check if the problem persists with every 6.5 rom out there.
Another thing we could try is ping every 5 minutes some address in order to keep the connection alive. I think this problem has something to do with the connection closing because of inactivity, even if your device is configured to stay connected.
What do you guys think?
has nothing to do with the connection being alive or not because the data connection is always up on my device. i also have other things running in the background that uses data. out of a hard reset and only loading up the exchange credentials, it will still disconnect. its hit or miss as sometimes it will be connected.. most often it will not stay connected and it wont always connect out of a soft reset... luckily i have the htc hero so i get my items pushed... just weird... yeah i cold do the 5 minute poll but that kills battery faster. once seido gets their extended batt out i may end up doing the 5 minute poll..
My connection is also up all the time on my device, but Flexmail loses IDLE with server when the device is asleep for some time (this doesn't happen with the ROM I told you).
What other things are you running that uses data?
I could try gmail with exchange and tell you my results with different roms. What ROM are you using?
Can you try the ROM I'm using right now? (RUU_Rhodium_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.19.721.3_Radio_Rhodi um_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship)
i tried the gmail exchange early on and it was slow and didnt make a difference either... still had unreliable push service... i dont know i have wifi on with the PRO and maybe the WIFI messes with something? im going to try and remember to turn off wifi when im at the job tomorrow and see if it stay connected with wifi off.. maybe i interferes? my PRO is cleaned up nicely. i dont want to install a ROM and redo things...
...ooh the reason im late responding is i could not get on the site.. kept getting a "bad gateweay" error....

Same happened to me
ooh im using stock ROM from Sprint. i take it by looking at the link you gave me you not in the US? and as for data programs, i have the instant messengers up and running as well as 1 imap email and several pop emails...
ooh and im glad im not the only one who had the bad gateway issue...
Well, one big difference between our devices: mine is GSM and yours is CDMA. Besides that, I still think we might have a similar issue. Why? Because my TILT was working flawlessly with Flexmail and when I bought my TILT 2, using the exact same program, same SIM, same service, etc; it doesn't work like it should. And what is more, the problem for both of us is somehow related with push mail/imap idle which is the same idea (I mean, we need to get mails "as they arrive").
Right now I'm flashing another ROM. This time it's a clean AT&T ROM (without all the usual garbage).
I think I'll try Exchange connection this time with my work server and let you know how it works.
Wish me luck
thank you for updating... yes i do believe we have the same issue.. i know there is a heartbeat sent from the exchange server to the device.. kinda like how wifi devices talk to APs to let them know they are there... and somehow the device loses that. anyway, yes definitely keep me on the loop on how this new rom works out. if i may ask, do you use wifi when our home or do you just let your device stay on the cellular connection? do you let the wifi "take over" when you get home automatically or do you not use it at all? im going to turn off wifi today and see if the phone will stay connected to exchange...
Sorry for being late!! I have news
After fighting with my TILT 2 I found the perfect mixture for me.
Please remember that I don't have a CDMA device but a GSM one, don't know if ROMs and radios are different, I guess they are .
First of all, I flashed original AT&T ROM from here: http://mobilitydigest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15639&postcount=10
Flashing that ROM brought back the original radio that came with my device which is: 4.48.25.20
After that I had to get rid of that ROM because it's full of software I don't want so I flashed this one which is an AT&T clean ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585403 (with HTC Sense 2.1 instead of AT&T Manila).
I've been using ActiveSync through Exchange for 4 days and it works flawlessly. I also installed Flexmail and it's working like a charm.
For some reason, Touch Pro 2 radio didn't work too well with my device. I have latest HardSPL.
I did a hard reset after installing my final ROM, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after flashing.
Now to answer your question: I'm always connected through data connection (3G). I don't use wifi unless I get out of my country.
welp glad all worked for you... perhaps i should look into a 3rd party ROM but i just like how mine is working , save the Async issue.....
Same Issue here
I have a unlocked sprint touch Pro2.
I have the caluklins ROM installed.
The activesync works only for the first time when I do a soft reset.
After that even if i try to do a manual syn it does not work.
Any luck so far guys?

How to get mail for WinMo over WiFi without constant connection

I am not sure if this has been discussed before but searching didn't help much as I am not sure what keyword to use.
I have a Fuze (Touch Pro) without the data service and would like the phone to periodically get the mails over WiFi. I am posting it here assuming this would apply to all WinMo devices. If not, please enlighten me.
In default settings, the phone disconnects WiFi as soon as it goes to sleep. I used Advanced Config to enable WiFi even in sleep, but now it stays connected all the time even though Pocket Outlook is configured to run every 15 minutes. For last several months it has been working this way but it drains the battery very quickly unlike my iPhone, which lasts the more than a day because it connects only to check mails when inactive.
I know with 3G service I don't have worry about it but wondering if there is any utility or setting in registry that would connect periodically for a minute or two so that PO can check for new messages.
Thanks.
How to update at intervals

Thanks powersupplyzzzz. The interval is already configured in ActiveSync/Pocket Outlook, but it doesn't connect to the WiFi unless it's already connected. Does it work for others? I mean does it connect to WiFi automatically when ActiveSync is ready to sync?
Wondering if I posted in the wrong forum or I am asking for something not possible on WM at the moment ...

AFAIK what you are asking is not possible, unless you ask someone to write you a script or there is an app that does this, but i havent come across one.
Thanks timmymarsh, this is what I was afraid of. I guess the old iPhone still has some use for this advantage.

What you need is a car battery that you can strap to your back which will boost your battery when required
I'll have a fish around for a real solution.
