yeah all the steps are correct just don't restore backup
you even will not need to wipe anything just backup the data of the sdcard
@samo_gf
if you use android to mount your sdcard ext partition will not show up but if you will use a card reader that ext partition will be mounted
why can't I restore? so sad!!!! does that mean I have to install all my apps again?
you can't restore because no wiping is needed and for a backup purpose use titanium backup

Did you wipe data? Also if it doesn't work, sear h around for a zerofill.tar to flash, then flash a rom over it.

do you no where i can download it?
i already found it an read good stuff of it thanks for the help
use your sd card for more space
zerofill tar sounds to me like:
writing lots of "0" to the internal sd?
-> equal to a format of /system?
-> system is gone, mobile doesnt boot
-> all data lost?
Checked the features of kyorarom and what do I see...
Hybrid Data2SD and SD card swap
Why dont you use that feature?
Ah... I see... you didnt create an ext4 partition?
Thsi partition is needed for the feature above!
how to:
Create an ext4 partition via CWM
using this feature will move all user apps to sd card
have a fast card on your side and make a backup of your sd card data
-> all data will be lost on sd card when you repartition your card!!!!!
I think u r facing 0.0kb internal memory bug... if so flash with data.rfs
If not, go to recovery, wipe dalvik cache... format sd ext.. mount data... and mount sd ext

oh... a second please...
I remember something right now...
In my very early days (ECLAIR flashing) I remember that someone had also space 0.0 MB
And afaik the solution was to flash the CSC file (?) or something like that again...
That was the reason in these days why I flashed all (!) firmware versions from
xxjg7 to xxjk1
well... in froyo days...
I know that this posting is not very helpful, but you might find something similar with these hints in the net...
Hope this helps forward
Flashing zero fill should solve to 0.0kb problem, it formats everything on your phone, then flash a rom over it. If doesn't work, backup your SD card and format your sd ext and your whole SD card.
Cheers

D'load "partition magic" or such software to ur pc.connect ur sd card with the help of a card reader to that pc. Then do "merge partition".It should delete the partition.BTW don't forget to make a backup of ur sdcard.
The simplest way : insert ur memory card in some nokia mobile den open ur memory card format n u r done. Other method : go to setting in ur phone go to storage and format ur sd card.

If u partition from recovery,ur sd card is already formatted and u cant retrieve data back unless u have a backup on ur pc.Dnt know about pc tools for formatting.
Use gparted on Ubuntu (you can put it on a CD or a memory stick and make it bootable - with poweriso - and boot into live CD, no need to actually install ubuntu, but after you try it you will, try with wubi to avoid partitioning)

I think mini partition should do the trick, you can delete the ext partition, and then resize and expand the fat32 partition and integrate the fat32 partition with the unallocated partition created after deletion of ext partion

Hello,
So the Whatsapp application currently takes up about 10 MB of data on my phone. All of that seems to be on the internal memory and not on the SD card even though I've rooted the phone and moved it to the SD card. How can I reduce the application data? I don't even need whatsapp to take a backup of all my messages.
Basically, I always have only 15MB-20MB of free internal memory. How to get more? I only have Twitter and Whatsapp installed. I've rooted the device also so I can delete anything/move anything to SD Card. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Crazysah
Hey there ,
In order to solve your doubt I need a few answers :
How big is your partition ?
Which script have you used?
Which ROM are you using ?
Here are some possible solutions :
With respect to whatsapp only.. you can delete / clear all your chats from the menu. You can delete message backup by first uninstalling whatsapp deleting the message backup on your SD card ( Whatsapp folder on sd card ) .. and reinstalling whatsapp..
If you want to increase your internal memory :
I think you will have to create an SD-EXT partition.. ( assuming you dont have one cause you havent mentioned it). You will get a guide On this post. Check partitioning of SD - Card.
If you are on Stock ROM you will have to create a FAT32 partition and use Link2SD and transfer your apps to your sd partition.
If your on a custom ROM it is recommended to create an EXT partition (for eg: EXT 2,3,4 ) ... and install simple2ext or Mount2Sd or similar such apps..
Depending on how big the partition is you wont face any problems and you can install as many apps as you wish..
I hope this solved your problem.
AFAIK, Whatsapp currently does not support App2SD methods..
Means you have to keep Whatsapp in the internal memory only..
You can use some sort of script to substitute/increase internal memory, as akshat said..
I m using link2sd on cyanogen 10 by sakindia
I have linked whatsapp and it works
I have 80 mb free internal memory with 15 installed apps like Facebook temple run and subway surfer

I'm not sure how big my partition is but I have 1.8 GB total space on my SD card. At the moment, I only have 16MB free space on internal memory.
I am using stock ROM but I have rooted and installed SuperUser and Link2SD.
I just want more internal memory. Period. That's all I care about. If this means installing a custom ROM, I'll do it. If this means partitioning my SD card, I'll do it.
Just tell me which is easier and better for long term.

I would suggest you try out a custom Rom and with an ext partition it will work well. Partition Upton 2 Gb and use a script. That's what I do and have had no issues with it... What all do I need before installing the custom rom? Is it easy?

Sorry been a bit busy..
I recommend you install cm9 build 11 ... Its a pretty good ROM to start off with...
1 backup all your apps/ data with titanium backup or similar apps.. ( do not backup system apps and data only backup user apps )
2 download ROM from cm9 thread and copy it on to your sdcard .. ( preferably don't put it in any folder )
3 reboot into recovery ( turn off phone .. Remove battery and put it back in
4 press volume down and power simultaneously and enter bootloader
5 using power and volume rockers select and enter recovrry ..
6 using power and rockers select factory reset and then go to mounts and storage wipe cache boot data and system.. ( DO NOT WIPE YOUR SD CARD / EXTERNAL STORAGE )
7 Go back and go to advanced and wipe dalvik...
8 then click on install zip from SD card...
9 select cm9 build11 zip and flash
10 reboot and enjoy your ice cream sandwich 4.0.4

It is okay to do a full format for your internal memory, if and only if you don't need anything on your SD card. Be sure to have copied everything you need to another storage before proceeding. But how can you flash a ROM from CWM if you formated everything. Just format after flashing the ROM not before.
Why you can't backup using CWM?

If the ROM is on an external sdcard, it shouldn't matter. still, that is good advice, as accidents happen. For instance, when i started using twrp I formatted my external sdcard instead of my internal, and lost my backups. Live and learn..

Are you certain there is no backup? I know i have had it say something like, can not find SD ext skipping SD ext, or something, when using cwm, and it really didn't matter. Uhm, but yeah, you can always reflash it or try another custom recovery, like twrp.

Hi guys,
I have a rooted HTC Wildfire S with a stock ROM and I have setup an 2nd partition formatted to EXT2, which I use for a really cool app called Link2SD.
Problem is I've underestimated an appropriate size for this 2nd partition and I'm come to the situation of having 10MB left. As I have a 32GB SD card I would like extend this partition, but without losing the data, is this possible?
I have ClockworkMOD as my recovery and this is what I used to initially partition the SD card. However, what I would like to know is if I will lose the data on both partitions of the card if I attempt to do this?
Much help appreciated,

If you are on linux then your ext2 partition will be detected and you can see the contents inside it and backup it..
If on Windows there is a software called EXt2IFS something like that..
Install it.. It will be able to detect your ext partition.. Then you can backup..
Related to your extended partition thing..
Yes you have create partition again.. This will end up reformatting your card and partitioning again..
Thank you very much for your reply. I have another question. When I tried to backup my EXT2 partition in the past for something else using Linux, it said I needed root permission. I managed to gain root access by right clicking on the enclosing folder and selecting open as root user option. However, when I tried to restore the contents back to the SD card all my linked app files that LinkSD made weren't working. How do I get around this if I decide to use Linux again?, Though if I use the Windows program, will I be able to get root access at all?

Well buddy seriously to say i wouldn't recommend to restore that ext partition.. As you are saying you want to restore your config of Link2sd.. Well to say it will not work cz the system links get disturbed due to removal of partition or modify..
well best to say i would recommend to take a backup of your ROM then partition the card..
Well to say i would recommend to you first switch off your phone.. Put it in card reader then partition it..
Restore the backup then see if it works.. I think you are on stock rom..
You can try this method:
1. Make a backup of your current ROM Using the recovery..
2. Switch off the phone then put it in card reader.. Re partition your card using card reader..
3. Then restore the backup..
See if this works..

Cheers pal. I will let you know how it goes later on, because I'm not near a PC at the moment to copy the nandroid backup from CWM to my HDD. I'd rather be extra safe and make a backup of a backup as the re-partition will most likely wipe the whole SD card.
