Got my Infinity yesterday - loving it so far. I was worried after all the negativity on the forums over the last few weeks, but I couldn't be happier.
My one issue is with the brightness of the screen. I know some people have taken issue with the auto-dimming feature. I have the complete opposite problem - I can't adjust the brightness of my screen! Moving from balanced to power saving to performance makes no difference. Turning on Super IPS? No difference.
Am I doing something bone-headed? Anyone else have this problem?

Just tried a factory reset - made no difference whatsoever. No matter what setting I choose for screen brightness, it never changes....
Any ideas? Should I just return it?

It appears that there is a issue, if you reset the tablet and its the same you should exchange it. Try the small reset hole also.

Did any firmware update happen?

Would I use the reset hole when the tablet is on or off?
Many thanks

Don't know if that makes a difference as I am running the updated firmware with no issue.

It's very strange - the screen itself is beautiful and responsive to touch. It's just it appears the brightness cannot be altered!

If you touch ISP and Auto brightness does it do anything?

No. I can move the slider up and down the scale, but it doesn't have any effect on the brightness. Very strange.

Send it back and get a replacement, not worth the aggravation.

hope this video illustrates the problem
I took this short video to try and better illustrate the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJks5di45iE&feature=youtu.be
Anyone got any ideas? I can return it to Amazon fairly painlessly, but it's a shame as otherwise it's a great bit of kit.
Grateful for any additional thoughts people might have.

Your issue more than likely will not be solved on the forums anytime soon. Amazon is very good at exchanging defective items usually shipping it the next day. Your stressing over this to much, and you don't have to. It cost you nothing to exchange the tablet.

Same thing
Just wanted to let you know I'm having the same problem. I've tried a factory restore as well still no brightness control. Thing that sucks is I returned my prime for a screen defect, now I get a faulty infinity. I'm beginning to question asus quality at this point and starting to think about perhaps getting a Google nexus 7 even with its limitations.

Isnt Asus building the GN7 also?
Either way, defects will happen. Send it to back and Amazon will make it right -- it's worth the two days. I've had none of the problems that people are describing with their Infinitys
Good point cinco5 ugh. I forgot they manufactured it. They are at 2strikes, I guess I'll give them 3.
I got my TF300T a couple of weeks ago and I'm generally pleased with it but one thing that is driving me insane is this auto contrast / brightness function that is always running on this tablet. When watching a movie or youtube clip with bright content then you can clearly see the brightness and contrast constantly changing, most visible on low brightness in a dark room.
I have not rooted my tablet yet but I think I'm going to do it soon, but today I saw this fix from the TF700 forum and I was wondering if this also work on the TF300?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29819724&postcount=61
Has anyone tried it yet, because if it works then I'll definitely be rooting it.

I haven't tried but I don't see how it wouldn't work, since the original tweak was found by a nexus 7 user.

This path wasn't correct for me - /sys/devices/tegradc.0/smartdimmer/
I had to use /sys/devices/nvhost/tegradc.0
Oh god thank you!! I'm gonna try this tonight, the auto contrast thing was driving me crazy.
hey this problem only happens in power saving mode, right?
Sadly, cannot seem to find any fix for non-rooted device like mine atm. All my android devices are usually on auto-brightness but it's unusable in tf300, that's my only gripe on this pad.

Download Terminal Emulator from the market and then type in the commands. When you type SU in terminal it gives superuser permission to the running terminal so you can type in the tweaks.
If I unlock the screen, around all the texts there is black framing until after one second or two it goes away...is this the auto contrast?
This doesn't work for me on my 300. It's an invalid directory because there is no tegradc.0 folder under /sys/devices

Use this path:
echo 0 > /sys/devices/nvhost/tegradc.0/smartdimmer/enable
What does echo '0' mean? Is it a terminal command or do you have to usean explorer to move some files?
Verstuurd van mijn ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T met Tapatalk
Terminal command, its not a Real file, you cant move, copy, delete or edit it the regular way

I tried to change the brightness level for low-light values on my tf300tg without success. Have you tried such hack?
Is there some app that will perform the above-mentioned function well? I let my tab's display turn off, but when I want to return to it, I still use the power button.
Any of these types of apps work without major battery drain?

I hope one day there would be an app for TF700 like this one
http://forum.ponury.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=562
I tried Awesome On and Off on my Galaxy S phone and found it drained my battery pretty dramatically. I installed the same app on my 700t, and it worked reasonably well, then quit. Re-upped it and then even that started draining the ASUS. Is this just a side effect of these types of apps?
It's a good concept but I can't take the drain.

Hi there,
It's about time I root my infinity but before I do I just want to check up on some issues to see if it's warranty or just an annoyance I'll have to live with...
Whenever my keyboard is out of battery while the tablet is not, my tablet seems to turn off while not being actively used. Is the the way it's supposed to work, or at least the way it works for everyone?
Thank you for reading!

Yep, if you mean turns the screen off. You can set the time out under display settings. No, if you mean completely shuts the tab down.
Hello
I'm having some issues with my tablet: the touchscreen is WAY to sensitive if i com VERY close to it it recognizes it as touch! and when i have my headphones plugged in and the rubber touches the screen: it also recognizes it as touch anyway to change it?
i am also have some phantom touches from time to time but they seem to disappear after locking and unlocking the tablet again (hardware or software issue?)
i am running android 4.1.2 with cromi-x on the latest bootloader with hundsbuah kernel v11
thanks,

Same here on all 3 tablets I've tried . So no there's no fix

Thanks,
do you also havelines flashing across the screen in some games?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
The headphone rubber touching the screen causes a touch on any device. It's happened on both my tablet & phone. As far as being too close, I haven't had a problem with that.

I used to but now I don't, but then again now I don't really play games, I usually only use my tablet for music and web, social stuff, so maybe I don't see the lines just because I don't play games lol

I'll record a video later about the "coming close to screen problem" it's really strange
another problem i've found: the touchscreen makes a click whenever i press it (it is on the right side over the speaker)
