I unplugged my battery, plugged in the phone to computer with vol+- held down, but still nothing? The phone boots up fine but I can't connect in APX mode to flash cwm...
Edit:: Plugging into different port worked for me.
You tried holding the buttons first before plugging in? Mines took awhile because i was doing it wrong.. Start like this, plug usb to pc, hold the buttons then connect the other end of usb cable to phone while still holding power and volume down, you should hear the connection tone it makes on the computer once connected

I got it! Ended up being a simple problem with the USB port.

So my girlfriends little brother gave me his skyrocket. He asked me to backup his pics, which I did with no problem. I then did a factory reset. After that, my computer does not recognize the phone! I've tried different cables, different computers. My girlfriend has the exact same phone, connects right away.
I even flashed it with a different rom and put ICS on it. No luck! I then proceeded to take it to a phone repair place, thinking it might be the actual usb port. They said they checked out the port, and it look fine. All solder joints were good, no bent pins.
The weird thing is, is that it connects on an average of 1/20 times! It charges perfectly too. The phone doesn't go in and out of charge mode if i wiggle the cable either. I'm kind of confused! Is there a file on the phone that tells the computer what it is when connected? If so, can I manually replace that file? WHAT DO I DO!
When you goto recovery mode can you goto mounts and say mount usb? and does the pc recognize it then?

Kind of. We had trouble with it when flashing it. I personally didn't flash it. I watched my friend do it

You could try installing the drivers again..
You mean on the computer? I did that. No luck. It does connect more often though WITH the drivers.
I had some problems with USB connectivity too. Using the cable that the Skyrocket came with solved my issues.
Have you tried any combination of restarting and reinstalling the drivers?
Swyped from my Nook Tablet, running CM7.
Yes. I've tried multiple cables including the stock cable. Installing drivers, restarting both devices. I have definitely ruled out the cable, the PC ( PC's actually), and the physical USB port.

I had similar issues, messed with phone for a bit and came up with this
System settings>more>USB utilites
Now I got a screen that says USB mass storage with a button that says Connect storage to PC. Tap Button.
A window will pop up asking to Turn off USB debugging (if on) Tap OK
Connect USB cable to storage (plug USB cord into PC).
You should now be at the USB Mass Storage screen, Tap button at bottom (Turn on USB storage)
I found this to be the way to turn on Mass Storage since I flashed ICS, I believe. Hope this helps you, it took me a little while to figure out.

Of course, that's how it's always been except in a slightly different location on ICS
I've tried that also. Didn't work

it basically sounds like the USB port on the phone is dead. Warranty that sucker
I took it to a repair shop. They said the port was perfectly fine!

Not to mention that it was working perfectly before I did the factory restore

how exactly did the repair shop test it?
try plugging it into another usb port on the same computer or try using a different computer. It could be the usb port on the PC itself.

That's the first thing he tried, it's in the OP
yeah i've tried everything! The repair shop determined that the port was good by examining it under a scope and they also said they tried re-flowing the solder joints. They said they wanted to stay away from replacing the usb port because it was very difficult to replace, not to mention they didn't warranty the job!
Someone has to know the answer to this!

if its still under warranty replace it, thats all u can do. No one else in this forum besides u can physically touch the phone, so if you've tried all suggestions thats all thats left
i have the same problem but mine is little different, when i power off the phone it keeps on going to download mode, i keep on restarting it and it goes back to download mode, i flash stock rom and it does the same, i flash ics rom and it keeps on doing the same can anyone help?
I was using Odin to flash the Gingerbread boot loaders on my phone when the laptop reset while writing part of the boot loader. the phone went black and had red pixels on the screen not it wont power on and acts like there is nothing on the phone no Samsung logo or anything. is this phone a brick now? when i plug it it to the computer it doesn't even pick up the comm port.
Are you saying that by holding both Vol keys, with the usb cable in then putting in the battery that you can not access Download mode?
Have you tried different cables?
Have you tried to gently wiggle the cable where it plugs into the Infuse?

Yes that's right I get nothing when doing that, tried another cable and a different PC still nothing
I just did that to my phone last night. Your phone does turn on that is why you see the red pixels. The way I fixed mine was to remove the battery. Disabled my security software. Ran odin as admin. Held in the volume buttons then plugged in the micro usb into the phone. Odin picked up the phone and I was able to flash it. I also used the same process to fix a white screened infuse.
I have an infuse that works great except for the fact that everytime I plug the usb into the phone it shuts off the phone. The phone is factory I have not altered it or anything. I have tried multiple cables and different ports on my laptop and desktop. The battery is stock like I said it only happens when you plug the usb cable up to the phone while the phone is in normal mode. It does not occur when in download mode or recovery. I just bought this off of ebay is this a simple fix or should I just send it back. Thanks in advance and be gentle this is my first post. If I posted in the wrong place my apologies.
Hello. I found my old Lumia 1020 and I decided to try and turn it on. However when I connected it to the charger all it does is flashing the middle button (windows logo) as what it normally does at the first few second of charging. So I tried connecting it to the laptop and same thing. Any ideas?
Hi, SavoTS
I guess the chances are that battery-juice might have dried up, possibility.
Have you tried Soft-Reset-ing your Lumia?
1. Press and hold the volume keys and power button together for 3-5 seconds.
2. The phone should soft-reset.
Please tell me what you've tried?
Also, The USB Port on your phone or the USB cable might be in bad-shape. This can cause the phone to not charge much and being stuck at the blinking Home button (Windows logo).
I have had bad USB port causing charging issues and giving me trouble while transferring data - I simply replaced it with a spare.
What have you tried so far?

The cable is totally fine because I use it to charge my other phone and it works fine. Tried the soft reset button combo and it didn't work. When I connected it to the pc it wasn't recognized. I haven't taken it apart but even if I do I don't have spare phones to take anything and use it.

i have this pc problem just charging not recognize. I gone changed replace new charging port and pc problem is solved it's working perfectly
If the battery is totally drained you should try a charging device, be patient and have the Lumia for hours on the loader. Also check the USB port, there may be tons of dust inside. Yes, it took me about ten minutes to clean a micro USB port, so just try it.
Best regards,
