Google+ Hangout Notification/Ringtone - Android General

Does ringtones for G+ hangouts work for anyone? I can see a setting in the app for enabling notifications for hangouts and also choosing a ringtone. But when I am invited to a hangout, all I get is a regular google+ notification that I am invited to a hangout. My phone doesn't "ring".
I have tested this with a second nexus with the same results. I know that my phone definitely used to actually ring with an answer/decline screen when being invited to hangouts. Did google change this?

Can anyone PLEASE test this out or at least confirm that hangouts used to ring

I'm having the exact same problem, earlier my hangouts from Galaxy Nexus to Nexus 7 used to ring on Nexus 7. Now when I invite Nexus 7 it doesn't ring on the other end, but my phone rings if I'm invited to a hangout.

No hangout inviation notification
I have the same problem with a Nexus 7 16G WiFi only that I got for my parents for Christmas. They can invite me to a hangout, but if I invite them nothing pops up on their screen "ringing" that there is an invite. If one is started and they notice it in the notification pull down they can join it, they just don't get an initial pop-up notification.
Has anyone found a way around this?

I'm having the same problem but it doesn't have anything to do with a nexus 7. It seems to ring sometimes but not always. Can't figure out any connection.

I am having the same problem.
HTC -> Nexus - it rings
Nexus -> HTC - a notification appears (no ringing)
I am pretty sure it did work in the morning. After a few hours it didn't work anymore.
Any ideas?
I found Google's instructions and followed them to the letter and still nothing :|

Hi
I have the same problem, did anyone sort this issue and how?
Thanks
Liam

Hello
Same here but I think I identified the problem.
During the first test my nexus 4 was running cyanogenmod 10.1 and my wife's nexus 4 was running stock 4.2.2, we were connected on the same LAN.
[email protected] calling [email protected] -> the [email protected] ringed and the screen waked up
[email protected] calling [email protected] -> the [email protected] nothing until I manually push the power button to turn screen on (instant ring when the screen turned on)
2nd test, 2 differents LAN : Now both of us are running [email protected] 10.1 M2 and none of us are able to receive notifications when our screens are off.
Does anyone can test and confirm this please ? If it's confirmed I'll create a "Jira" issue on the new cyanogenmod bugtracker.
Regards,
Kévin

hangout problem
Hangouts on different phones don't ring if the hangout is started from a phone, but it rings if it is started from my pc (pc sends invites). Has somebody found the fix for this?
---------- Post added at 09:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 PM ----------
I think I figured it out!!
Just to review my problem with the hangout not ringing:
Phone to Phone: No ring
PC to Phone: Rings
Solution: You have to have google Talk installed on your phone/tablet and you have to be friends. When you look at the Support section in Hangouts it actually says that "they have to be able to chat with you". So having the Google Talk turned on was the only way I could figure this one out.
Let me know if this works for you guys too.

How can you have Gtalk installed on your phone when Hangouts replaces Gtalk? I have everybody I want to call in different circles and they have me. Why am I still getting only notifications and it does not ring? Any ideas?

Google Voice?

Have you actually tested it? I have it working on the original GS2 and I believe I got error messages too. When I attempted to change it in the settings, it always said the change was unsuccessful, but in actuality, it was working. I would place a test call to see it is activated. If not, try setting the voicemail back to default, then clearing data of the application (Google Voice - found in settings - applications - manage applications), and start over. You can also peruse the troubleshooting guides that Google likely provides somewhere.
@Cobalt which carrier are you with?
I figured out my problem. Bad SIM card. Voice worked, data worked, but anything involving network requests (MMI codes) didn't. Got AT&T to give me a new one. Works like a charm now.
I'm having a problem setting up my google voice number on my new Skyrocket too... Unfortunately I don't believe it's related to my SIM card as I swapped SIM's with the one from my Nexus One (which GV works fine with) and I get the same error.
When I try to configure GV and it tries to switch the voicemail service from "my carrier" to "google voice", it gets an error saying "change to new provider?" If I select yes, then I get another error that says "forwarding number change failed". The phone rings fine with I dial my GV number indicating the forwarding at GV is working fine, but if I dial out from my phone, it shows my phones number instead of the GV number meaning something in the phone isn't being configured right.
I searched on the issue and find this thread at the google voice help forum, so I know it's not just me but I can't seem to get it to work no matter what I do.
I changed my settings manually. menu>settings>call>call forwarding then edit the numbers to your gv number. This worked for me. Take note of the vm number that's in there in case this method doesn't work for you.
That works fine for the incoming voicemail, but the outgoing calls still show up on the receiving phone as my cell phone's number instead of my google voice number.

Nope, but I don't want them to either. I just use GV for the visual voicemail.
I'm curious, is anyone else out there sharing my issue with the outgoing phone number?

Nobody? I can't believe there aren't any other Google Voice users out there with the Skyrocket!
I'm sure you have, but just to rule out possibilities, is the option to use 'Google voice to make all calls' checked?

No problem with mine. Calling and text works fine, incoming and outgoing. Didn't set it up for voicemail though.

Actually no, but I'm 99% sure it wasn't on my previous Nexus One either, yet it still called out from my GV number. I've tried it though and it didn't help. Thanks for the thought.

Just to be clear, so when you dial someone else, their caller ID shows your GV number, NOT your cell phone number?

I tried installing GV stock, and also on the SkyROCKeteer ROM and get the same problem on both (as described in post 5). Get errors on installation, but incoming calls work fine and voicemails go to the GV app. But outgoing calls get received as from my cell number instead of as from my GV number.
I guess I was more asking where it's at now, if it's on stock or not. I regularly say things worded completely wrong.
Do you have visual voicemail setup? I've wondered with it being introduced with this phone if there'd be any conflicts.
So two questions to everyone, if you have the google voice app working, do you or don't you have visual voicemail? And did you have any issue getting outgoing calls to reflect your Google voice number?

At the moment I'm running the SkySTOCKeteer rom, but I installed GV bone stock within a few minutes of getting the phone and got the same errors.
No, I've never tried the visual voicemail app. I'll try freezing it with Ti Backup and see if that helps.
I've yet to see anyone claim it's fully working (including outgoing caller ID) on the skyrocket.

I'm 99% sure it was. That's the way it works. I too have a Nexus One and it works that way. If you don't have either "Ask every time I make a call" or Use Google Voice to make all calls", it won't work. Simple as that.

[Q] GV SMS Integration Issues

So hopefully somebody can help me. I'm either looking for a different solution to my problem, or a fix for the solution I came up with. So here is my problem/solution:
I just got a new phone through work. I had to get a new number, but I figured now was a good time to smooth all my friends over to using my google voice number. So I set up google voice and I've been using it for calls and it works great. Now the only problem is that SMS does not. I can use the google voice app, but honestly it's pretty crappy, so I want to use the built in messaging app. Now natively I've learned that there is no way to do that without using that special number google voice generates for each contact. It's kind of a pain in the ass. So I purchased GV SMS Integration. The app works perfectly about 90% of the time. But that other 10% is a pretty big fail. It seems to be that whenever I lose signal, or go a long period without receiving a text, the next text I receive I am alerted for every text in the entire conversation. This is getting out of hand. A couple times a day I'm getting 20-30 text message alerts.
So in short:
1. Is there a better way to handle SMS integration with google voice? I don't understand why it works so well with phone calls but SMS is ****.
2. Is there a fix for the above issue I'm having? I've emailed the developer but it seems the project has been abandoned or something which really sucks.
bump
GV SMS Integration did work on my phone. I was getting Free SMS using Google Voice, both sending and receiving but I upgraded my ROM and I'm having difficulty figuring out the settings to achieve 'free' SMS while integrating it with native text app.
I'm using pay as you go SIM card, so this is relevant to me, too.
What are the Settings in GV SMS Integration and Google Voice app?

Sprint Visual Voicemail

Was wondering if this app can be installed and work. Tried to install it but got error connecting to server. Also when I made Hangouts take over SMS on my old phone sprint visual voicemail stopped working.

I'd like to know too. Will be buying from play store and voice mail app is only sprint app I use.
Same here. Anyone set this up? I hate having to dial in for voicemail.
I've been asking this question for over a week (on multiple forums). The only answer I've gotten has been to use Google Voice.
The real problem, I believe, is the N5 is not equipped to handle voicemail like Sprint's system works on smartphones.
Like others are reporting an LTE issue with Sprint, I think voicemail is an issue too. FWIW, I cannot retrieve any messages left for me by using the dialer method (long press 1).

In the past installing the APK for CM ROMs results in also getting texts from 9016 after you provision the application which has to happen in order for the application to function. That's why it would be nice to know if the Sprint N5 Flavor has this by default.
No. The 16gb doesn't have it installed. I tried installing it and got the 9016 texts.

My notifications about this are a missed call which is handled properly. If voicemail is left, I might get 9016 text...I might not. On Thursday I had a friend leave a message. I got the missed call but no other notification that voicemail had been left. I called him back on Friday and he told me he left the message. I checked voicemail via long press 1 and no messages. I just checked now via the same method and I do have 3 messages. No notification that any of them showed up.

I was running CM 10.1 on my Note 2 and used the voicemail.apk without issue. I was receiving the 9016 texts but the message was being downloaded by the VVM app. I simply blocked texts from 9016 and didn't have any issues. But the VVM app worked (sent system notifications too).
I have tried multiple versions of the .apk and haven't gotten it to work. I bought the Nexus 5 from the Playstore and haven't rooted it. As a stock phone I do not get the 9016 text I get the Voicemail icon, but I do miss the VMM app

Wait for the 4.4 compatitble apk. i'd just say for now its an incompatibility.
I don't see Sprint letting this go.
I'm very interested to see what Sprint has to say about VVM for the N5.
I think it would be safe to say they will provide a 4.4 kitkat apk.... they aren't going to stop their VVM offer....either it with the n5 or whatever.
I hope they do get one soon for you sprint ppl
Any update?
Does anyone know if this apk is available for 4.4 now? I couldn't find anything in the play store...

I don't think this is an app problem, because the app just reads the log to discover a forwarded call, and has nothing to do with the forwarding settings..
Please check your diverted/forwarded call settings on your mobile...

1) Note 3 Kitkat Rooted user here. It didn't work 1st time (no notification) despite the fact that I m rooted. Needed to run the FCtools anyway. (And I got in the PC command line a message that you leak memory or something)
2) Where is the enable/disable service switch that was present in 1.0 ? Can't find it.
How can I switch it off easily?
3) +1000 to the above suggestion to find a way to mark the forwarded calls after they ended ringing.
Useful app anyways.
Hello,
Great app !!
Installed on Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, with Lolillop 5.0.2.
I've no notification when the phone is locked.
If the phone is unlocked, the notification appears.
+1 to have a mark of the forwarded calls after they ended ringing.
Thanks
Is it my rom or does Android 5.1 already include the feature to show forwarded calls?
Worked on my Xperia Z C6602 android 4.2.2
It would be great if you make it in a way that no rooting be ever necessary . . . or developer options.
It's better to make the message box much bigger . . . or resizable.
I also installed the driver from developer.sonymobile.com
Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks man ....
Had hard time thought. Try it 10-20 times but didnt give up.
Finally i made it work on my Note 4 N910C unroot.
Install latest drivers and work with usb debugging on.
Works even with the screen locked ....

Sprint Wi-Fi Calling

I enabled Sprint's Wi-Fi calling feature last night. It warmed Mr that in doing so, it would need to disable Google Voice. I allowed it to do this.
Here are the screenshots taken while enabling this on my Essential. I will make a call in a little while and let you know how it sounds and ask the person on the other end to let me know how it sounds.

Already using it and I miss Google Voice already... First of all, Wifi calling is fine. The network at work is throttled, though, so I've been getting a lot of jittery audio on calls at work. It's hit or miss. But I forgot how well Google Voice's spam call filtering works and have been getting twice as many robo calls since doing this. Problem is, now I can't go back. Google Voice says Sprint Integration is not supported/available for my phone.
