Tab won't power on (solved) - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I watched about an hours worth of Netflix, set the tab down and then approximately 6 hours later picked it up and it was turned off. Attempted to turn it on, no dice. So I plugged it up to charge but can not charge or power it up even with the cable plugged in.
Its 3 months old and obviously I can send it to Samsung for repairs but I would hate to do that if you guys have an idea how to fix it.
Anyone got any ideas?

Problem solved. Held the power button down for 15 seconds as suggested after a google search and it came back to life.
Strange how something so simple is the answer.

It's called a SoD, or Sleep of Death. It usually happens when using some sort of Deep Idle/processor idle kernel feature. If you're using stock ROM, it's probably just a kernel glitch and was most likely a random occurrence. If you're using a custom ROM/kernel, then turn off didle/deep idle!

[Q] serious hardware issue

Hey guys,
My beloved nexus s 4g appears to be on It's last leg. After running cm9 stable for weeks without flashing any new roms or kernels it started freezing and locking up randomly. Eventually it started freezing midboot and doing nothing. Sometimes it hung on the splash screen and wouldn't boot. Sometimes it randomly rebooted into recovery out of no where.I tried wiping everything and starting clean, same issue. Most often, it will freeze after being asleep for a while and lock up when I press the power button
I tried running stock, same issues.
I tried relocking and unrooting, same issues.
I tried raising the voltages of clock speeds, same issue.
I have noticed if it's plugged in to a charger, it works perfectly. Any chance It's just a bad battery or something else?
Thanks for any advice guys and gals

Very strange...
RU insured? If so then swap it.
Have u tried to run a logcat to see if it shows anything after reboots?
I think batteries are like $10 bucks or so... or just go to phone store and tell them ur issue and use one if their batteries... but of course you'll need to be back to stock in case they check it
Good luck

It could be the battery not giving you appropriate voltage. I'd buy a replacement. At worst you're out of 10$, at best you Nexus S works.
Not insured. Upgraded to evo 3d, but I miss the nexus. I love the pure Google and form factor of the ns. Gonna try buying a new battery. Thanks gang

Got a new battery. Still has issues booting but seems to be a little more stable. Still not sure its usable as a daily phone :/
Thanks for the suggestions though

Skyrocket randomly shuts down and vibrates.

For the past 24 hours my Skyrocket has started randomly shutting itself off every hour or so and then beginning to just slightly vibrate (like haptic feedback). Holding down the power button will start it back up, but obviously this is pretty terrible.
Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this? I'm using an older NexusMod (ICS) and had no issues with it for the first 6 weeks or so. People have suggested the charger might be messing it up, but it continues to happen after using both my Skyrocket charger and my Nexus 7 charger.

It's happening when it's just sitting idle on my desk. Could that still be the case?

I've done that, testing now.
Thanks.
Clear cache and dalvik cache. Did you restore any data from a different from to this one ?

I think your battery might be overheating. Have you noticed a heavy battery drain? Try using Bettery Battery Stats to see whats eating it up if you have.
~PsyCl0ne
i cleaned my battery contacts and the problem went away for me FYI
Happened to me also. Found out my phone was hot to the touch, so I removed my case, and let the battery cool down. Now I don't use a case, and it doesn't happen anymore.

Aries kernel port

So, I'm kind of curious about the sod issue that the current aries kernel port has. i know it means sleep of death but does that mean that sometimes it won't come back on from the lock screen and you have to do a battery pop? How long does it have to run before that happens or is it random as hell? I'm just curious as to is it impossible to use a rom with that kernel because of the issue.

And that's why there is no ROM with that kernel for use, other than the one release Brian did. No one is saying to use it for any sort of daily use whatsoever.

Yes. SOD you need to pull battery or possibly long press power button. And it happens when the phone sleeps.
Do you you if it's every 1st attempt to push the sleep button or does it happen after a period of time when it's sleeping?

It's kind of an interesting issue. It might be a SoD (sleep of death), it could be they cypress keyboard driver which controls the volume, power, and capacitive keys, it could be a regulator issue, it could be an issue with the pmic or battery drivers.
So many possibilities.
It happens everytime you push the power button on the phone to turn off the screen. My life is seriously complicated right now and every spare minute I have is spent on figuring out this issue, continuing to maintain the cm9 herring build, porting sk4g (sgh-t839) to teamacid's cm7, and looking into work on the at&t galaxy note (sgh-i717).
m4xm4n and jeffsf are also helping out on the sgs4g aries SoD issue, but it's a very complicated issue. We'll sort it out soon!
Thanks bro no rush I was just trying to get a better understanding of the sod problem and you answered it 100 percent.

Phone shuts off when taking pictures with flash.

This has been an issue for a long while but its frequency seems to have increased now. Basically it happens randomly and only if picture is taken with flash. I have experienced it on both stock jelly bean ROM and cm10. I don't remember it being an issue on ICS or GB. My phone is not over clocked and the issue does not seem to be affected by kernel.
My gf also has a nexus S and same thing happens with her. We both have the i9023. Her phone is completely stock and not rooted.
This problem is also not limited to the stock camera app as I have experienced it with camera zoom fx as well.
Anyone else with the problem? Do you think its a potentially hardware issue with nexus S?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I think your problem has something to do with your batter. This is my theory because whenever you try to take a picture with flash on a faulty, or non-calibrated 3rd party batter, the phone shuts off. Try this: take out the batter, plug your phone in to AC, and take a photo with flash. Let me know what happens

What is a third party batter? I am not using any "third party" thing. :S
And this problem isnt easy to reproduce since it doesnt always happen. It just randomly happens and I can go on taking several pictures with flash without a problem. Actually what I have noticed is that it will happen on the first or second click in a session or it wont happen. If the phone shuts off and upon reboot I immediately take a pic with flash then it will shut down again but if I give it a break then it wont.
Yeah, the same thing here. Must be a 4.2.1 issue. Happened to me on 2 different roms. I never take that many photos, but happened a week or so and didn't think about it. But today needed the flash for Christmas pictures and every time I used the flash the phone shut off and I had to power back up. What rom are you on?

I am running cm10 stable right now. This is a jelly bean issue I think and I dunno why its not reported enough because its quite a major issue if you ask me. Nothing more embarrassing than that happening in front of friends.

I forgot to mention that sometimes it wouldn't shut down, it would render the touch screen unusable and I had to pull the battery

Thats not happened with me so far.
It's the cheap battery
My phone switches off when I take picture with flash but only if I'm using the cheap battery which i ordered with spare charger. Tried the cheap battery with my brother's note 4 and it happens every time. It never have or has happened with original battery. This is one of the tests for a new battery.

Serious crashes every few minutes

Hey guys I have been having a pretty serious issue the last couple of days. Was running a CM 10 teamchopsticks nightly from a few weeks ago, which worked perfectly up until three days ago. Then it started crashing randomly, the screen would go black and it would vibrate every few seconds, a battery pull would fix it. I updated the phone to the latest nightly, and now I can't run the phone for 5 minutes without the same type of crash. When I battery pulled and tried to turn on the phone, it would immediately crash about 4/5 of the time. This bug is rendering my phone unusable. Not sure whether this is a Rom issue or something else, thanks in advance.
Not sure what kernel I am running.
Hearing it may be a hardware issue, anyone agree?
Could be, try to odin stock jb or ics. If you still have the problem then it's probably hardware. Unfortunately the rocket is getting old. I'm having some old age problems with mine too. Mostly stuck power button.

I don't Think you have it. Take your battery out and then put it back in. If it boots at that point then that's a sign that you probably do. Or if you try to try to power off you phone but it reboots then that's another sign

Could be a stick power button then, that's almost a sure sign. Mine is intermittent. Some times it's ok, others not not.
