Can someone tell me how to root vzw sg3 with mac?!?!?!?!?!?!?! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have been searching on here and other forums and youtube and everywhere, i cant find anything! Im also new to mac and not sure how everything works so if you know how please make it so a total noob (me) could understand. Thanks, and p.s. I dont have windows on here yet

You get MAC, you get lots of trouble. It's good for surfing the net and lots of basic things. It has some good audio visual softwares, design too, which are found in Windows too. Drivers tend to be a problem.
You'll need to go through the extra steps of visualizing Windows every time you need it, if you want your MAC to be useful.

so is there no known root beside booting into windows?

anyone?
i know there is a way, i found one for the international version, but not vzw.

I did a quick Google search but couldn't find anything, maybe you can use vmware to run windows on your mac and root it that way, also bumping this to the top because I am curious also.

Unfortunately there is not. The only way to root on a mac is to do what I did and use boot camp to partition your hd and have windows on there as well. I believe vmware could work but I think drivers may be an issue there.

I think that you can use this program made by Adam Outler
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29973494&postcount=197
He mentioned it works better on Mac's anyways.

I downloaded Adam's app but haven't used it yet. It does open and waits for my phone to hook up which is a good sign. Might try it this weekend.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I downloaded it, and ran it. I did hook up my phone to it,and it gave all the options you would want.
I didn't use any though as I am already rooted and on Synergy.
Very simple to use though if it works.

You dual-boot Windows through BootCamp. That's how you root on a Mac. It's what I'm doing on mine.

well on galaxys3root.com he has found a way just hasnt posted yet, it says will post soon for mac and linux, im not starting a war but there has to be a way to do it without booting windows on a mac, i refuse to believe that not one person has a mac and a s3 and hasnt rooted using just the two.

Just used that one click and worked like a charm. thank you

Have you seen the suing?
This is madness I tell you MADNESS.
Well I don't know how. Apple must want you to buy a iphone to go with your new mac then.

I have am S3 and a Mac...But I still know for a fact that as of now you need to have windows in order to root which is why I have it with bootcamp. =/ Sorry dude unfortunately for the time being you would either have to wait for a new method to be released or get windows some how. Or use that tool Adamoutler posted. I have it right now (but have not tried it yet) It is suppose to work on a Mac

Hey I got a question. Did all of your data get deleted when you used it? or was your phone the same after it was done thus you did not have to reinstall anything?

OP did you even read through your own thread? I posted last night, a link to Adam's program. He designed it to work on both windows and Mac. He was having some bugs supposedly on windows but works well on a Mac since that is what he uses. The program will root, unroot, flash recovery. Very easy to use.
So you can use this program or have fun waiting on someone to make another program to do what this one can already do.

Lol well im here just asking if it erases all of the data from your phone thus leaving me to reinstall my apps from the play store and stuff haha. even if it does id probably bite the bullet and do it anyways but I want to know wat happens before hand.

Adam's one click uses GS3DebugFSroot so it shouldn't erase anything because it uses your stock setup and roots the phone no flashing of another image onto it.

BackTrack 5 on Mesmerize

(This is a re-post from Android Hacking and General section; I developed this on a Mesmerize so I can promise it will work just fine on 2.1 and 2.2.1 stock kernels)
Requires a rooted device!
BackTrack 5 installation guides are making their way around this forum. I've tried to synthesize it all, but I've also added my own touches to help with usability and features, along with a workaround for the "ioctl LOOP_SET_FD failed" error message some people have been getting.
In theory this build is nearly universal, so if you have an Android device it should work. I've put it all in one zip file that you can download directly from my website, no hassles or wait timers.
If you are interested have a look, feel free to re-post. Credit goes to the BackTrack team and xda member anantshri (he's got skills, give him props guys), who built the base image file.

BackTrack is an operating system based on Ubuntu Linux that is used for security testing (aka hacking) and digital forensics. I'm a master's degree student in computer security, so I love this OS... it can do awesome things. Turn on your Wi-Fi and you can do advanced network scans and tests right from your phone, no laptop required. For me this is hella-useful.
But besides just being an OS for hacking ****, it's also fully Ubuntu-based, so you can run it like a desktop, including running Firefox and other Linux applications.

I doubt this is possible to do via a phone, but can you crack wifi networks using this?
Wait, so let me get this straight.... this is an ubuntu based os that will run on the mesmerize???
If so, HOW? Dual boot? Or complete rom replacement?

Assuming the Wi-Fi chipset supports it (and it probably does) then yes, you could, but it will take a lot longer than, say, if you had a laptop, since Wi-Fi cracking always involves cryptographic computations.

It still runs pretty nicely, especially considering you are running it on a phone And for what it's worth, having to use VNC as the GUI is often a plus; it's nice to be able to switch back and forth quickly.

Just like an app. Specifically it uses the concept of a "chroot" to run it from inside of Android's Linux kernel. You can even switch back and forth between the two instantly.

Correct, under normal circumstances. I'm going to cover my ass here and remind you that you'll be running this stuff as root, so if you start deleting files willy nilly you can still blow away your Android system requiring a re-flashing.
But as long as you aren't an idiot you'll be just fine, lol.

Use the ACE hack kit. Read the instructions very carefully (the whole thing, it's not that long) and don't skip any steps. It may be possible that the PC you are using to do the hack is the issue. Try a different PC, preferably one running Linux because there is less chance of other software interfering under Linux. I rooted mine a week ago using Ubuntu and it rooted first time using the ACE hack kit. It took about 15 minutes.
Also make sure your PC antivirus is off, most AV's see the root as a Trojan and will kill the root script. A lot of the time it happens so fast you don't see the warning. Then when you try to root it can't. Don't even open the zip until you do this.

Has there been an MTP fix for Mac?

Is the no mpt for pissing anyone else off, because i'm at the point where i'm ready to sell, please don't link me to those crappy .sh files they work but they're annoying and don't access the internal portion
Idk what you're asking but you should use "Airdroid" in the Play Store for wireless file transfers from computer to GSIII.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
To anyone who doesn't know:
The GS3 doesn't communicate with a Mac out of the box (And it is a royal pain in the a). You need a special program from Google called Android File Transfer.
To the OP: no, there's no fix, at least that I know of, and trust me I've looked... And it sucks. Everyone always suggests these programs from the play store, but they all SUCK!!
Android File Transfer was amazing, when it worked. All we can really hope for is a fix from either Google or Samsung to make it work again.
Samsung has a program called kies, which still sucks but is OK for syncing music...
Personally I've resorted to boot camp. Whenever I need to sync something I just boot up windows on my Mac.

google samsung sg3 easy ums fix, you will be able to mount external sd card easily not internal , it will look like another drive. works with my mid 2011 macbook air with snow mountain lion.
as for the internal portion , your only choice is airdroid. it does every thing, delete , upload , etc... airdroid does nto require active tethering, passive is just fine. I personally use airdroid a lot.
P.s. root required for ums fix ( like every android phone , without root , the phone is as useless as an iphone )
1st off, MAJOR Thanks To all that replied.

Idk if the new nexus is going to have the same storage system as the GS3. I'm not too techy with the internals so not sure how it all works...

What rom are you on? The vralg7 (or whatever it was called)(4.0.4?) OTA made Android File Transfer not work with GS3 anymore.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
yeah all these f'ing OTA updates did for me was make my phone black screen of death CRASH all the time requiring battery pull, break Android File Transfer to my Mac, and make my phone run hotter. Which is probably because of that stupid Verizon remote "assistance" crap bloat they put in so they can probably record everything we are doing.
Verizon screws everything up. Wish another carrier had as good of LTE. I am probably going to exchange this for Note II because of these problems. I expect VZ to pay for it or most of it.
Unless Google goes back on their work, the MTP standard will continue. I see it as unlikely for connectivity to Macs to improve for ICS+ phones until Google provides a better tool.

What I've been running into on Apple's Support Forums is that AFT seems to work best only up to 10.6, some have had success with 10.7 and most are reporting absolute failure with Mountain Lion. I'd use AirDroid but my MacPro doesn't have a WiFi antennae, unless it can go through my router somehow as Kies Air does?
Has there been any progress on this?

[ROM] WebOS - Untethered [Download]

Hey guys,
got a brand-spanking-new N7 for Christmas and saw on a news site about a WebOS port.
Now, I'm not sure if any of you have seen the Nook Color forums but I'm gonna tell you, they hacked a 2010 $250 e-reader to run every version of Android and Ubuntu. I'm a tinkering kind of guy and decided to give this ago.
So pretty much I took instructions from here:
http://www.webos-ports.org/wiki/Nexus_7_Build_Setup
And installed to the device here:
http://www.webos-ports.org/wiki/Testing_Nexus_7
It is moderate-hard difficulty, especially for people who have never tinkered with this kind of stuff before. There's only so much I can do for you guys, but I have simplified the install process quite a bit.
I DO reccomend building it yourself if you can, because it provides a learning experience plus you can get the build fresh out of the oven.
Note: This is work in progress, some stuff may not work, alpha, blah blah most of you have heard it.
Without further ado, I present to you:
WebOS Installation Guide - Nexus 7 Edition
Windows:
1. Download Windows.zip
2. Extract all to one directory, make sure Nexus is plugged in & ADB on
3. Run "Boot.exe"
4. Wait.
Linux version to come; Mac i'm not so sure about.
Credits: ALL credits go to WebOS-ports for making this port in the first place. I just made it easier for the common user to test this thing out. You can thank me if you like but please remember to do so to WebOS-ports as well.
Notes:
-This is an alpha build, according to the dev. It's nothing you could use everyday as an OS but this stuff is fun to play with
-I nor WebOS-ports take responsibility for your device in anyway! I don't care if your cat dies because it ate your N7 running WebOS, or you caused WWIII, or whatever. Please take caution.
Looks interesting and I am the tinkering kind of guy myself. Down to check it out. Oh, and I always wanted to say it.....FIRST!
Wouldn't you be second cuz he was the first guy to post something

I started compiling this last night at about 11:00. Its 1:00 pm now. This morning when I went to bed the terminal said 'preparing run queue' and had for about two hours. This morning when I woke up terminal reads 'Currently 1 running tasks (1801 of 4600): 0: webkit-webos-1.3-0.54-r10 do_compile (pid 9944). Been this way for a long time now. When i scroll up the terminal window I see some warnings. Repeated several times is QA Issue: package qt4-webos contains bad RPATH and repeated several times before that is QA Issue: No GNU_HASH in the elf binary: Am I on the right track or is something screwed up? I'm using an older PC running Ubuntu 12.04 with core 2 duo and only 4 GB of ram so I figured it would take a while. When I started the build I also got a message in the terminal saying this build has never reportedly been done on my machines configuration and to let them know if it works. Something along those lines.

Steam recently came to debian-based distros and the compatible games list is growing every day. If ms office ever comes to linux, I will have no reason to ever boot into windows again.

I'm pretty close to that too, but I unfortunately have to program in .Net too frequently to leave Windows forever
I'm "officially" working on it for our device, but that doesn't mean anyone else can't help
If you want to help shoot me a PM or email me please!
Currently having issues with RIL.
I tried it on the nexus 4, its cool but.. Wow, hard to move through it with no hardware keys

Just saw this over on PCW. Am very excited. I've already been using Glovebox for about two weeks, so the full Ubu OS would be great to try out on my H0X.
A quick comparison of other HTC devices listed seems to indicate that installation shouldn't be that much different from a standard unlock and install, except that it relies on ADB at the moment since it nukes your android install: So you'll have to push it via ADB rather than just flashing an image via CWM or TWRP. Looking at the DNA and the Desire for comparison seems to indicate that not all hardware drivers are currently fully linux compatible, so things like hardware buttons and cameras are going to take longer, as Android is a basdard child of linux and uses a few different structures, AFAIK

If I was more than a simple Software Engineer I would love to help, but I've never had to do anything like this.
Maybe I'll poke around to see what I can do, but I'm sure I'll just get in the way.

Definitely excited about this, can't wait to give this a whirl. Everything and anything Rohan makes its way onto my phone in one way or another. As always, thanks for all the hard work Rohan.
You're the man Rohan!

I love Rohan's work on the Evita, if it weren't for him I'd probably have given up on this phone and traded it in already. And knowing he's working on the ubuntu touch for our devices makes it that more likely that more people will use it.
