Has there been an MTP fix for Mac? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is the no mpt for pissing anyone else off, because i'm at the point where i'm ready to sell, please don't link me to those crappy .sh files they work but they're annoying and don't access the internal portion

Idk what you're asking but you should use "Airdroid" in the Play Store for wireless file transfers from computer to GSIII.

To anyone who doesn't know:
The GS3 doesn't communicate with a Mac out of the box (And it is a royal pain in the a). You need a special program from Google called Android File Transfer.
To the OP: no, there's no fix, at least that I know of, and trust me I've looked... And it sucks. Everyone always suggests these programs from the play store, but they all SUCK!!
Android File Transfer was amazing, when it worked. All we can really hope for is a fix from either Google or Samsung to make it work again.
Samsung has a program called kies, which still sucks but is OK for syncing music...
Personally I've resorted to boot camp. Whenever I need to sync something I just boot up windows on my Mac.

google
google samsung sg3 easy ums fix, you will be able to mount external sd card easily not internal , it will look like another drive. works with my mid 2011 macbook air with snow mountain lion.
as for the internal portion , your only choice is airdroid. it does every thing, delete , upload , etc... airdroid does nto require active tethering, passive is just fine. I personally use airdroid a lot.
P.s. root required for ums fix ( like every android phone , without root , the phone is as useless as an iphone )

1st off, MAJOR Thanks To all that replied.
2nd I tried all those "App's" and "Fixes"
I've been trying to communicate with the devs they haven't really said anything,
Everything worked on Touchshiz.
I'm really thinking bout selling the device.

I thought about selling mine, I bought an iPhone 5 because of the fact that the GS3 sucks with a Mac, but I decided that there are things I like about the GS3 & Android so I just have both phones. I have 2 lines so why not.
iPhone is not useless either, as a previous poster mentioned.

See but the bad thing is...is the new nexus going to play well with Mac?
Idk if the new nexus is going to have the same storage system as the GS3. I'm not too techy with the internals so not sure how it all works...
And don't forget...a jail broken iPhone is just as amazing as a rooted Android. I personally love both, it's a curse cause I always want the newest iPhone & greatest Android phone... every year........haha

What is wrong with Android File Transfer? I don't think I've updated it since I had my Galaxy Nexus early this year, but I've been using it since I picked up my GS3 a week ago and it works just fine for both internal storage and the SD card...

It used to work for me. Then I OTA'd and bam.
What rom are you on? The vralg7 (or whatever it was called)(4.0.4?) OTA made Android File Transfer not work with GS3 anymore.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

yeah all these f'ing OTA updates did for me was make my phone black screen of death CRASH all the time requiring battery pull, break Android File Transfer to my Mac, and make my phone run hotter. Which is probably because of that stupid Verizon remote "assistance" crap bloat they put in so they can probably record everything we are doing.
Verizon screws everything up. Wish another carrier had as good of LTE. I am probably going to exchange this for Note II because of these problems. I expect VZ to pay for it or most of it.

Unless Google goes back on their work, the MTP standard will continue. I see it as unlikely for connectivity to Macs to improve for ICS+ phones until Google provides a better tool.

Android File Transfer works fine for me (I'm on the HE ota, on an older mac if that matters).

What I've been running into on Apple's Support Forums is that AFT seems to work best only up to 10.6, some have had success with 10.7 and most are reporting absolute failure with Mountain Lion. I'd use AirDroid but my MacPro doesn't have a WiFi antennae, unless it can go through my router somehow as Kies Air does?

Has there been any progress on this?

[Q] Gameloft: Transfer Games to a New Phone

Hello XDA,
I know Gameloft's polices suck just as much as their games are generally awesome.
What I am wondering though is if I buy games now for my Vibrant, if there is ever a way to transfer those titles by any means possible to another phone later on in the future?
I have titanium backups of the games and the SD data copied and the original APK's downloaded from the gameloft store.
Can I restore those titanium backup's on future phones?
Could I install the APK's on future phones in Airplane Mode?
Has anyone gotten this to work at all?
Thanks!
I've read that you can call them and explain your situation and they'll switch the license(s) over without much hassle.
Otherwise, you might be able to get things to work now, but if you ever wanted any of the updates you'd be SOL.
I haven't had a problem with restoring Titanium backups.
When I returned my Vibrant for a replacement I called and they transfered the games to my new phone. I don't know if they would transfer to a different model.

That is all I was really wondering. Is if Titanium backup or installing the APK's in airplane mode would work on another kind of device.
I bought 4 gameloft games, but lets say if the Playstation Phone comes out and it doesn't fail horribly, then, naturally, I would want to be able to transfer them to that somehow.
I just cant justify having to buy the same games again just for a new phone, especially since my old phone would go to someone who never uses games anyway.

Make your phone not a phone?

So i had a dream that inspired this, and also some future thinking
What can you do to the skyrocket to essentially not make it a phone, besides the obvious. Say i buy a new phone and never get rid of the skyrocket(i wouldnt dare leave the skyrocket ) What could you put on it to say JUST make it an media player? No other apps, no home screen. You just turn it on and it will only play music to a customized UI like a microsoft zune(i had when it first came out). Or maybe you just wanted a camera. etc.. Yes, you can delete files that you dont need put it in airplane mode bla blah blah. Thats not what i am looking for.
I don't know if anyone would see use for it besides me, but i wanted to see. I know this could be possible and maybe you can call me crazy.

There's actually no need to give it up as a phone, even if you remove the SIM card. I have two main devices that I alternate between, my Skyrocket and my HTC Vivid. I have GrooveIP installed on both. This app allows you to use a device to make calls over wifi or your cell data network so you do not need a SIM inserted to make calls as long as you have wifi available. This way I can simply put the SIM in whichever device I decide to carry on any given day, and leave the other behind at home to send and receive calls over wifi when I am there. And this way both devices are fully functional with all of their capabilities at all times.
There's no need to cripple either device when you have this option (GrooveIP) available for only a few bucks from the Play Store. Actually my use of GrooveIP goes way deeper than that, as you can easily see by the list of devices in my sig.
With this one app, and possibly one more (TextPlus), you can keep as many phones fully functional that you may so desire.

I realize i can still make use of the functions wifi and other apps to use when i dont have a plan for the skyrocket. That is not what im asking. Im talking about stripping the phone of all phone capabilities. Im saying strictly make it a Media player not like the galaxy players because they have apps i dont want apps.....just a media player. Or one function.
I guess this is a useless question im asking, what do they say dream big or go home?

If you can figure out a way to register a media player as the default launcher, that would probably be enough, no?
The phone has an OS so do music players. So finding a way to install an OS from a music player on it shouldn't be impossible. It's like stripping a windows machine and then installing linux no? So getting some OS off of an MP3 player and looking at what it needs as far as file structure would be a good place to start. I have two phones and since I've gotten the Rocket my SGS4G has basically become my MP3 player. I get about 12 hours out of it with airplane mode just playing tunes. If I could replace the OS with something dedicated to music and get more time I would make that trade off. Especially if you could still flash back to an Android OS.

Okay so are we talking about porting a OS/ROM from a music player? I wonder who the best Dev to talk to about this is? Im no expert in this subject or else i would have done something by now . If we got more people interested im sure a dev would support it right?
There's actually a ROM project out there for almost this exact concept! I read the OP once here on xda. Let me search for it and see if I can find it. And the idea was exactly this: to take an old phone and flash this ROM to basically turn it into a Zune, so that its main purpose became an mp3 player. Let me look for it...

Trading my wifes s3 to iphone 4s need input?

Hey all just to be clear first off this is not a discussing to bash me or my wife for her wanting to go to an iphone. She has decided it I have a trade set up with someone for a 32gig s4 and its done so please no bashing me or her lol!!!
Anyway! Her phone has synergy 1.3/lmo kernel 12-2. We are meeting the person at a verizon store so we can swap and activate the phones in confidence. I want to return hers to stock. I have the stock bloated zip downloaded and will do it via odin. My question is should I worry about the flash counter taking it to the verizon store to do this swap? They can't deny me a swap for it being flashed can they? Just reload stock ics and go with it?
They can't see the flash counter. Unless they go into download mode to look for itm . It won't b a problem The swap take two minutes . Youre all good!

Anyway, you can also look up the free triangle away on XDA. It costs 2 bucks on Play Store, but XDA members can get it for nothing. That will erase the flash counter to zero.

Yep not gonna worry about it. On another note I just tried going back to stock on her phone via odin. Downloaded one of the stock fully bloated ics roms...followed the directions and the odin never said pass/reset. It just sat there after it took 2mins 37 secs. I battery pulled unplugged and rebooted to recovery and it rebooted to cwm recovery. I reboot phone from there and it booted back to synergy and the kernel. any suggestions? Just try again? I dont want to brick this damn thing trying to trade it tomorrow lol
I'm sorry but I'm not biting my tongue. That is a horrible trade....you're giving up the latest technology for a phone that's almost a year old and only has 3G speeds. What your wife should do is throw the S3 up for sale on ebay for $500 now, use another phone for a few months and then buy the iphone 5 when it comes out in November.

Try switching usb ports also, my front ones are kind of flaky with odin, as are my rear usb3 ones...the back usb2 however works fantastic and has never given me a problem. Just remember some people it takes 1 minute flat, and others it takes 10 minutes.
I finally got it thanks guys
I've been using Odin 1.85. The 3 version has been fishy for me. Also. If you have root 66 or something just use it. An apple person isn't going to check or know anything about 1 icon that says superuser. Also restart your computer. It helps sometimes

Being nice here, but has she used the smaller screen on the iphone extensively?
After setting my wife is with an HTC inspire she thought she wanted an iphone 4s too until she used one in store and decided the screen is too small.
Point is, she's making a huge downgrade. Maybe have her use it for 10 minutes in store before the person getting the s3 makes off like a bandit

If his wife wants a iphone, then so be it...Im pretty sure the op understands quite well its a downgrade, but remember we talking about the wife here. Sometimes you have a better chance to get struck by lightning than convincing them of anything!
To each their own. I showed my wife the iPhone (coming from a dinc) and the Nexus and she went straight for the Nexus. It's all user preference. No need to bash.

My wife, the iphone fangirl to the bone, hated the Nexus and Razr Maxx and spent less than 5 mins to come up with that conclusion. Then while she's waiting for the iPhone 4S replacement from verizon, she saw the S3 from their store and was won over instantly. We're both using the same phone and while i cried over losing the Note when we switched carrier, this is truly the one that resembles it the closest. Upgrading on AT&T without consent

Alright this is more of the questions for the AT&T network not really the Samsung Infuse. Anyway, I want to upgrade my phone later on I will get the Galaxy Note 2 . Now, I'd like to upgrade but my parents do not want to allow it. I do however, have a store near me. Couldn't I just go to the store with my phone number or do I need any other information to help me upgrade ? Any advice is helpful thank you. I should probably also say that I don't have an upgrade available both my parents do, but i think i could use one of theirs. Im under 18, would that stop me either? (I got my tablet from walmart lol, i was fine on that.)

I believe they will require authorization from the one in charge of the account (one of your parents I suppose).
And not so sure about the upgrades, but I believe each one is specific to a phone line.

Is your present phone a 4g? If it is, you can go on line with ATT and upgrade one of your parents phones. When the phone arrives, all you have to do is switch out your sim card.....all your number info and all that stuff is on the sim card.
If you go into the store and you are not the account holder, they won't even talk to you.

I'm thinking this is a great way to get yourself into hot water pretty quick.
A better idea would be to work out something with your parents.
Try this link
Upgrading will extend your parent's contract another 2 years.
I'm sure they'll definitely notice that.
To qkster, I'll try again lol when the time comes. I've got a lot of money that I've earned/gotten, and they won't let me use any of it! It sits there (in a safe place, easily access able to me), finally gave up and spent some of it on my tab 2. I love that, and my phone but the gnote 2 could make things a lot easier, use less devices.

I'm sure they would not know, my mom lost a 7 year old flip phone with no plan to get her another soon, and my dad has a 5 year old flip phone too. They do not care about tech. At all, I'm lucky to have a decent laptop to do heavy hw, I use my tab and phone for the quick typing/notes. It seems for me to work well, and no matter what I do they think its terrible (because they can't figure it out! Haha)

Likely that since your parents are not tech savvy you can log into the att online portal using a username and password combo that they would normally use. From there you can add yourself as an authorized user and go into a store and wreak havoc. But honesty is the best policy.

And just think, if something were to happen and they had to switch off of at&t or wanted to go somewhere else for service it would require them to pay roughly 800 bucks to terminate the contract. Not to mention the mandatory data charge for upgrading to a smart phone. They'd probably notice the extra 15 to 30 bucks a month.
As a parent myself who until this question thought I was still 'cool' (I'm slowly turning into a grumpy old man and its pissing me off) I'd most likely kill my kids of they tried what you are asking.
(I'm old now!!!!!!)

I am already seeing the S3 on Craiglist for under $400.00, the Note will probably be more. But you wouldn't have to screw with your parents account.

[Q] Some advice

Hi all,
My daughter's Infuse 4g was having issues (wouldn't turn on, and if it did, wouldn't stay on) while she was at college. She took it to the AT&T store and they told her she needed a new phone. We purchased one, but when she got her Infuse 4g home, I was able to get it working again.
Anyway, now I have an Infuse. We have four kids so from time to time we need a 'backup' phone. This would make a good backup phone. It is completely stock and unrooted.
I'm debating on trying to get CM11 on it. I see there is an unofficial release. However, I know nothing about the history of the Infuse, how easy it is to brick, how easy it is to unbrick etc.
So, should I just leave this phone "as is" or work to get CM 11 on it? I'm currently reading through some of the forum threads, but if there are issues putting roms on this phone, it would be nice to know before I put a lot of time in on it.
Any opinions?
Thanks!!!
It's almost impossible to hard brick
99 percent of time you can recover It through Odin. Just follow the steps and you will be fine

Is there any chance that getting the positioning wrong could hose the sim card? I've used this method before in a different phone, but I was always concerned that if it shifted it could mess up the SIM.

It's actually easy to "brick" the Infuse, all you do is break the USB charging port, I have a lot of experience with Galaxy S devices and they all have poor USB port durability especially when it come to water damage, so that's one thing to watch out.
Personally, I recommend using CM9 on the Infuse. CM11 roms to me are still buggy and the performance isn't very good. Beanstalk rom does a pretty good job, but for now there are still slow down issues and poor Webkit performance. So far I get very good stability and performance with CM9.
Here is a guide I wrote on root, flash and restore the Infuse, it's pretty easy: http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...m-recovery-kitkat-factory-restore-infuse.html
You can sim unlock this device too which is easy also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
